He said, 'I am the most knowledgeable of the people about that. It was only one Hajj from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and from that they differed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out as a pilgrim. When he prayed in his mosque at Dhu al-Hulayfah his two rak'ahs, he entered ihram in his sitting place, and he made the ihlal for Hajj when he finished his two rak'ahs. Some people heard that from him and memorized it from him. Then he mounted. When his she-camel stood up with him, he made the ihlal, and some people caught that from him. That is because the people used to come in groups. They heard him making the ihlal when his she-camel stood up with him, so they said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made the ihlal only when his she-camel stood up with him." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on. When he ascended the height of al-Bayda', he made the ihlal, and some people caught that from him. He said: And where is that in the Book of Allah? He said: Allah ﷻ said: {And when your Lord took from the children of Adam, from their loins, their progeny, and made them testify upon themselves: Am I not your Lord? They said: Yes} [Al-A'raf 172]. Allah created Adam and wiped his back, making them acknowledge that He is the Lord and they are the servants, and He took their covenants and pledges, wrote that on a parchment, and this Stone had two eyes and a tongue. ✧ My master Abdullah b. al-Sa'ib told me: I was among those who built the House, so I took a stone, shaped it, and placed it beside the House. He said: I used to worship it; if there was something in the House, I would send it to it, until one day there was good milk, and I sent it to it, and they poured it over it. Quraysh disagreed about the Stone when they wanted to place it, until there was nearly fighting among them with swords. He said: Make the first man who enters from the gate arbiter among you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered, and they said: This is the trustworthy one—they used to call him al-Amin in the pre-Islamic era. They said: O Muhammad, we are pleased with you. He called for a garment, spread it out, placed the Stone in it, then said: For this clan and this clan—except that he named clans—so that each clan of you takes a side of the garment. They did so, then raised it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it and placed it with his hand.

✧ When Uthman was killed, people were terrified that day with a severe terror, and the drawing of swords among us was great. I sat in my house, and a need appeared for me in the market, so I went out. There in the shade of the palace were a group of about forty men sitting, and a chain was displayed on the door. I wanted to enter, but the doorkeeper prevented me. The people said: Let the man in. I entered, and there were the nobles and notables of the people. A handsome man came in a robe, with no shirt or turban, and sat down; it was Ali b. Abi Talib. Then he said: When Ibrahim wanted to build the House, he was at a loss and did not know what to do. Allah sent the Sakina, a wind that curled up, and he built upon it each day one cubit. Makkah was very hot. When he reached the place of the Stone, he said to Ismail: Go and look for a stone and place it here. He went around the mountains, and Jibril brought him the Stone and placed it. Ismail came and said: Who brought this? Or where is this from? Or from where was this brought? He said: The one who did not rely on my building or yours brought it. He built it. Then it collapsed, and the Amalekites built it. Then it collapsed, and Jurhum built it. Then it collapsed, and Quraysh built it. When they wanted to place the Stone, they quarreled over its placement. He said: The first to come out of this gate will place it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out from the gate of Banu Shaybah, ordered a garment, it was spread, he placed the Stone in its middle, then ordered a man from each clan of Quraysh to take a side of the garment, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it with his hand and placed it. The two Shaykhs agreed on extracting the long hadith from Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani and Kathir b. Kathir, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas: the story of the building of the Ka'ba, the first time Ibrahim al-Khalil ﷺ built it. This is different.

✧ I set out for Umrah in the year when the people of Syria besieged Ibn al-Zubayr in Makkah, and some men of my people sent sacrificial animals with me. When we reached the people of Syria, they prevented us from entering the Haram, so I slaughtered the sacrificial animal where I was, exited ihram, and returned. The next year, I set out to make up my Umrah. I came to Ibn Abbas and asked him. He said, 'Replace the sacrificial animal, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded his companions to replace the sacrificial animals they slaughtered in the year of Hudaybiyyah during the Umrah of al-Qada.' Amr said: My father was concerned about what they had slaughtered in the year of Hudaybiyyah, saying, 'I do not know whether the companions of the Prophet ﷺ replaced the sacrificial animals they slaughtered at Hudaybiyyah during the Umrah of al-Qada or not,' until Abu Hadir narrated to him.
