    « ذُكِرَ لِي أَنَّ الدُّعَاءَ يَكُونُ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ لَا يَصْعَدُ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ حَتَّى يُصَلَّى عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

    ✧ "It was mentioned to me that supplication remains between heaven and earth, none of it ascending until blessings are invoked upon the Prophet ﷺ."

    إِنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ ؓ جَلَسَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْ جَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: « يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ أَصَلَّيْتَ الضُّحَى ؟ » فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَفِيهِ: « إِنَّ أَضَلَّ النَّاسِ مَنْ ذُكِرْتُ عِنْدَهُ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيَّ » ﷺ

    ✧ Abu Dharr ؓ sat with the Messenger of God ﷺ, or the Messenger of God ﷺ sat with him, and he said, "O Abu Dharr, have you prayed the forenoon prayer?" Then he mentioned the hadith, in which he said, "The most misguided of people is the one in whose presence I am mentioned and he does not invoke blessings upon me ﷺ."

    « يَا أَبَا ذَرّ أَصْلَيْت الضُّحَى » قَالَ ﷺ « قُمْ فَارْكَعْ » فَقُمْت فَرَكَعَتْ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ تَعَالَى ثُمَّ عُدْت فَجَلَسَتْ فَمَكَثَ ﷺ طَوِيلًا لَا يُكَلِّمُنِي فَقُلْت قَدْ كَرِهَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ مُجَالَسَتِي ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ ﷺ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ « يَا أَبَا ذَرّ » قُلْت لَبَّيْكَ وسعديك قَالَ ﷺ « اسْتَعِذْ بِاللهِ مِنْ شَرِّ شَيَاطِينِ الْإِنْسِ وَالْجِنِّ » فَقُلْت بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّيّ وَلِلْإِنْسِ شَيَاطِين قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ « أَلَيْسَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ شَيَاطِين الْإِنْسِ وَالْجِنِّ يُوحِي بَعْضهمْ إِلَى بَعْضِ الْآيَةِ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ ﷺ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا ذَرّ قُلْت لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ ﷺ أَلَا أُعْلِمَك كَلِمَةً هِيَ كَنْز مِنْ كُنُوز الْجَنَّة « قُلْت بَلَى بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّيٌّ قَالَ ﷺ قُلْ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ « ثُمَّ أَصَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَتَكَلَّمُ حَتَّى طَالَ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ فأتنفت الْحَدِيث فَقُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّك أَمَرْتِنِي بِالصَّلَاةِ فَمَا الصَّلَاةُ قَالَ ﷺ خَيْرٌ مَوْضُوعٌ فَمَنْ شَاءَ اسْتَقَلَّ وَمَنْ شَاءَ اسْتَكْثَرَ قَلَّتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَمَا الصِّيَامُ قَالَ ﷺ فَرْضٌ مُجَزِّئٌ قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَمَا الصَّدَقَةُ قَالَ ﷺ أَضْعَافٌ مُضَاعَفَةٌ وَعِنْدَ اللهِ الْمَزِيد « قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَيّ الْعَمَلِ أَفْضَل قَالَ ﷺ » إِيمَان بِاللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَجِهَاد فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى « قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَيّ الشُّهَدَاءِ أَفْضَل قَالَ ﷺ مَنَّ أهريق دَمه وَعُقْر جَوَاده « قَالَ قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَيّ الرِّقَابِ أَفْضَل قَالَ ﷺ أَغْلَاهَا ثَمَنًا وَأَنْفُسَهَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِهَا قَالَ قَلَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَل قَالَ ﷺ جُهْدٌ مِنْ مُقِلّ وَسِرٌّ إِلَى فَقِيرٍ « قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَجِدْ مَا أَتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ قَالَ ﷺ تُعِينُ ضَعِيفًا أَوْ تَصْنَعُ لِأَخْرِق قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ قَالَ ﷺ فَتَكُفُّ هَذَا وَأَشَارَ ﷺ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَة حَسَنَة يَتَصَدَّقُ بِهَا الْمَرْءُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيّمَا أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْك مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ أَعْظَم قَالَ ﷺ آيَةُ الْكُرْسِيِّ وَتَدْرِي مَا مَثَّلَ السَّمَاوَات وَالْأَرْض فِي الْكُرْسِيِّ قُلْت لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَعْلَمَنِي مِمَّا عَلِمَك اللهُ تَعَالَى قَالَ ﷺ « مِثْلَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ فِي الْكُرْسِيِّ إِلَّا كَحَلْقَةٍ مُلْقَاةٍ فِي فَلَاة وَإِنَّ فَضْل الْكُرْسِيّ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ كَفَضْل الْفَلَاة عَلَى تِلْكَ الْحَلْقَةِ قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَمْ كَانَ الْأَنْبِيَاء عَلَيْهِمْ السَّلَامُ قَالَ ﷺ « كَانُوا مِائَة أَلْف وَأَرْبَعَة وَعِشْرِينَ أَلْفًا » قُلْت يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَكُلّهمْ كَانُوا رُسُلًا قَالَ ﷺ « لَا كَانَ الرُّسُل مِنْهُمْ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ وَثَلَاثمِائَة رِجْلٍ » قَلَّتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَيّهمْ كَانَ أَوَّل قَالَ ﷺ « آدَم عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ » قُلْت وَنَبِيٌّ كَانَ آدَم قَالَ ﷺ « نَعَم جَبَل الله تُرْبَته وَخُلُقه بِيَدِهِ وَنَفَخَ فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِهِ وَكَلَّمَهُ قُبَلًا ثُمَّ كَثُرَ النَّاسُ حَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ « أَلَا أُنْبِئَكُمْ بِأَبْخَلِ النَّاسِ » قُلْت بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ ﷺ « مَنْ ذَكَرَتْ عِنْدَهُ فَلَمْ يَصِلْ عَلَيَّ ﷺ " نوع="مرفوع"

    ✧ "O Abu Dharr, have you prayed the forenoon prayer?" He ﷺ said, "Arise and pray." So I arose and prayed as long as God Almighty willed, then I returned and sat. He ﷺ remained for a long time without speaking to me, so I said, "The Messenger of God ﷺ has disliked my sitting with him." Then he ﷺ turned to me and said, "O Abu Dharr." I said, "At your service, and good fortune." He ﷺ said, "Seek refuge in God from the evil of the devils of mankind and jinn." I said, "May my father and mother be your ransom, do mankind have devils?" The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Does not God, Mighty and Majestic, say: 'Devils of mankind and jinn, inspiring one another' [the verse]?" Then he ﷺ turned to me and said, "O Abu Dharr." I said, "At your service, O Messenger of God." He ﷺ said, "Shall I not teach you a word that is a treasure from the treasures of Paradise?" I said, "Yes, may my father and mother be your ransom." He ﷺ said, "Say: There is no might and no power except with God." Then the Messenger of God ﷺ persisted in not speaking until that lasted a long time. Then I resumed the conversation and said, "O Messenger of God, you commanded me to pray. What is prayer?" He ﷺ said, "A good thing placed [before you]; whoever wishes may take little, and whoever wishes may take much." I said, "O Messenger of God, what is fasting?" He ﷺ said, "An obligatory duty that suffices." I said, "O Messenger of God, what is charity?" He ﷺ said, "Multiplied many times over, and with God is more." I said, "O Messenger of God, which deed is best?" He ﷺ said, "Faith in God, Mighty and Majestic, and striving in the path of God Almighty." I said, "O Messenger of God, which martyrs are best?" He ﷺ said, "The one whose blood is shed and whose horse is hamstrung." He said, "I said, 'O Messenger of God, which slaves are best [to free]?' He ﷺ said, 'The most expensive in price and the most precious to their owners.'" He said, "I said, 'O Messenger of God, which charity is best?' He ﷺ said, 'The effort of one with little, given secretly to a poor person.' I said, 'O Messenger of God, what if I do not find anything to give in charity?' He ﷺ said, 'You help a weak person or do something for an unskilled person.' I said, 'O Messenger of God, what if I am not able?' He ﷺ said, 'Then withhold this'—and he ﷺ pointed to his tongue—for it is a good charity that a person gives on behalf of himself. I said, 'O Messenger of God, which verse of the Qur'an revealed to you is greatest?' He ﷺ said, 'The Verse of the Throne. And do you know what the heavens and the earth are like in relation to the Throne?' I said, 'No, unless you teach me from what God Almighty taught you.' He ﷺ said, 'The likeness of the heavens and the earth in the Throne is only like a ring thrown in a vast desert. And the excellence of the Throne over the heavens and the earth is like the excellence of the desert over that ring.' I said, 'O Messenger of God, how many were the prophets, peace be upon them?' He ﷺ said, 'They were one hundred and twenty-four thousand.' I said, 'O Messenger of God, were all of them messengers?' He ﷺ said, 'No, the messengers among them were three hundred and fifteen men.' I said, 'O Messenger of God, which of them was the first?' He ﷺ said, 'Adam, ﷺ.' I said, 'Was Adam a prophet?' He ﷺ said, 'Yes. God formed his clay and created him with His hand, breathed into him from His spirit, and spoke to him directly.' Then the people became numerous around the Messenger of God ﷺ, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Shall I not inform you of the most miserly of people?' I said, 'Yes, O Messenger of God.' He ﷺ said, 'The one in whose presence I am mentioned and he does not invoke blessings upon me ﷺ.'"

    « مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يُصَلِّي عَلَيَّ صَلَاةً صَادِقًا مِنْ قِبَلِ نَفْسِهِ إِلَّا كَتَبَ اللهُ تَعَالَى لَهُ بِهَا عَشْرَ صَلَوَاتٍ، وَكَتَبَ لَهُ بِهَا عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ، وَمَحَا عَنْهُ بِهَا عَشْرَ سَيِّئَاتٍ، وَرَفَعَ لَهُ بِهَا عَشْرَ دَرَجَاتٍ

    ✧ "There is no servant who invokes blessings upon me sincerely from his own self, except that God Almighty records for him ten blessings, records for him ten good deeds, erases from him ten evil deeds, and raises him by ten degrees."

    قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: « لَا تَجْعَلُونِي كَقَدَحِ الرَّاكِبِ، إِنَّ الرَّاكِبَ إِذَا عَلَّقَ مَعَالِيقَهُ أَخَذَ قَدَحَهُ فَمَلَأَهُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ، فَإِنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ فِي الْوُضُوءِ تَوَضَّأَ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ فِي الشُّرْبِ شَرِبَ، وَإِلَّا أَهَرَاقَ مَا فِيهِ، اجْعَلُونِي فِي أَوَّلِ الدُّعَاءِ وَفِي وَسَطِ الدُّعَاءِ وَفِي آخِرِ الدُّعَاءِ

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said to us, "Do not make me like the traveler's cup. When the traveler hangs up his provisions, he takes his cup and fills it with water. If he needs to perform ablution, he performs ablution; if he needs to drink, he drinks; otherwise, he pours out what is in it. Place me at the beginning of the supplication, in the middle of the supplication, and at the end of the supplication."

    « كُنْتُ أَسْأَلُ اللهَ تَعَالَى أَنْ يُرِيَنِي الِاسْمَ الَّذِي إِذَا دُعِيَ بِهِ أَجَابَ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ مَكْتُوبًا فِي الْكَوَاكِبِ فِي السَّمَاءِ: يَا بَدِيعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ

    ✧ "I kept asking God Almighty to show me the Name by which if He is called, He answers. I saw it written among the stars in the sky: 'O Originator of the heavens and the earth, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.'"

    « إِنَّ اللهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَعْطَانِي مَلَكًا مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ يَقُومُ عَلَى قَبْرِي إِذَا أَنَا مُتُّ، فَلَا يُصَلِّي عَبْدٌ عَلَيَّ صَلَاةً إِلَّا قَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ يُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ، يُسَمِّيهِ بِاسْمِهِ وَاسْمِ أَبِيهِ، فَيُصَلِّي اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْهِ مَكَانَهَا عَشْرًا

    ✧ "God, Blessed and Exalted, has given me an angel from among the angels who stands at my grave when I die. No servant invokes blessings upon me without him saying, 'O Muhammad, so-and-so son of so-and-so is invoking blessings upon you,' naming him by his name and his father's name. Then God, Mighty and Majestic, blesses him in return ten times."

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ يَتَبَرَّزُ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ رَجُلًا يَتْبَعُهُ، فَفَزِعَ عُمَرُ ؓ فَاتَّبَعَهُ بِفَخَّارَةٍ، وَمَطْهَرَةٍ، فَوَجَدَهُ سَاجِدًا فِي مَشْرُبَةٍ لَهُ، فَتَنَحَّى فَجَلَسَ وَرَاءَهُ حَتَّى رَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ: « أَحْسَنْتَ يَا عُمَرُ، حَيْثُ وَجَدْتَنِي سَاجِدًا فَتَنَحَّيْتَ عَنِّي، إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ أَتَانِي فَقَالَ: مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيْكَ وَاحِدَةً صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ عَشْرًا وَرَفَعَهُ عَشْرَ دَرَجَاتٍ

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ went out to relieve himself and did not find a man to follow him. Umar ؓ became anxious and followed him with a clay vessel and a water container. He found him prostrating in a room of his, so he stepped aside and sat behind him until the Messenger of God ﷺ raised his head. He said, "You did well, O Umar, when you found me prostrating and you moved away from me. Gabriel, peace and blessings be upon him, came to me and said, 'Whoever invokes blessings upon you once, God blesses him ten times and raises him ten degrees.'"

    ارْتَقَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ دَرَجَةً فَقَالَ: « آمِينَ » ثُمَّ ارْتَقَى دَرَجَةً فَقَالَ: « آمِينَ »، ثُمَّ ارْتَقَى الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ: « آمِينَ »، ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى ﷺ فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ أَصْحَابُهُ ؓ: أَيْ نَبِيَّ اللهِ عَلَى مَا أَمَّنْتَ ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: « أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ فَقَالَ: رَغِمَ أَنْفُ رَجُلٍ أَدْرَكَ أَبَوَيْهِ أَوْ أَحَدَهُمَا لَمْ يَدْخُلِ الْجَنَّةَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: آمِينَ، وَرَغِمَ أَنْفُ امْرِئٍ أَدْرَكَ رَمَضَانَ فَلَمْ يُغْفَرْ لَهُ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: آمِينَ، وَرَغِمَ أَنْفُ مَنْ ذُكِرْتَ عِنْدَهُ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْكَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: آمِينَ

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ ascended one step of the pulpit and said: “Amin.” Then he ascended another step and said: “Amin.” Then he ascended the third and said: “Amin.” Then he settled ﷺ and sat. His Companions ؓ said: “O Prophet of Allah, for what have you said Amin?” He ﷺ said: “Jibril ﷺ came to me and said: ‘May his nose be rubbed in dust, a man who reaches his parents or one of them in old age and does not enter Paradise.’ He said: ‘I said: Amin.’ ‘And may his nose be rubbed in dust, a person who reaches Ramadan and is not forgiven.’ He said: ‘I said: Amin.’ ‘And may his nose be rubbed in dust, one in whose presence you are mentioned and he does not invoke blessings upon you.’ He said: ‘I said: Amin.’”

    إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَقَالَ: « آمِينَ، آمِينَ، آمِينَ ». فَقِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّكَ حِينَ صَعِدْتَ الْمِنْبَرَ قُلْتَ: آمِينَ، آمِينَ، آمِينَ، قَالَ ﷺ: « إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ أَتَانِي فَقَالَ: مَنْ أَدْرَكَ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ فَلَمْ يُغْفَرْ لَهُ فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ فَأَبْعَدَهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى قُلْ: آمِينَ، فَقُلْتُ: آمِينَ. وَمَنْ أَدْرَكَ أَبَوَيْهِ أَوْ أَحَدَهُمَا فَلَمْ يَبَرَّهُمَا فَمَاتَ فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ فَأَبْعَدَهُ اللهُ قُلْ: آمِينَ، فَقُلْتُ: آمِينَ. وَمَنْ ذُكِرْتَ عِنْدَهُ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْكَ فَمَاتَ فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ، فَأَبْعَدَهُ اللهُ، قُلْ: آمِينَ، فَقُلْتُ: آمِينَ

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ ascended the pulpit and said: “Amin, Amin, Amin.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah, when you ascended the pulpit you said: Amin, Amin, Amin.” He ﷺ said: “Jibril ﷺ came to me and said: ‘Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and is not forgiven, then enters the Fire, may Allah, Exalted is He, distance him. Say: Amin.’ So I said: Amin. ‘And whoever reaches his parents or one of them and does not treat them well, then dies and enters the Fire, may Allah distance him. Say: Amin.’ So I said: Amin. ‘And one in whose presence you are mentioned and he does not invoke blessings upon you, then dies and enters the Fire, may Allah distance him. Say: Amin.’ So I said: Amin.”

    قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَدْ عَلِمْنَا كَيْفَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ، فَكَيْفَ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: « قُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ صَلَوَاتِكَ وَرَحْمَتَكَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا جَعَلْتَهَا عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

    ✧ We said: “O Messenger of Allah, we have learned how to greet you with peace, but how do we invoke blessings upon you?” He ﷺ said: “Say: ‘O Allah, place Your prayers and Your mercy upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You placed them upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.’”

    قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ: كَيْفَ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ ؓ: اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ صَلَوَاتِكَ وَبَرَكَاتِكَ وَرَحْمَتَكَ عَلَى سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ، وَإِمَامِ الْمُتَّقِينَ، وَخَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّينَ مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ إِمَامِ الْخَيْرِ وَقَائِدِ الْخَيْرِ، اللَّهُمَّ ابْعَثْهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا يَغْبِطُهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ وَالْآخِرُونَ، وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

    ✧ Zubayd recited the Qur’an for twenty years, completing it in a day and a night, and for twenty years completing it in two days and two nights. He said: “By Allah, it was as if there was light on his face.” The Prophet ﷺ, when he sensed negligence or heedlessness among his Companions, would call out to them in his loudest voice: “Death has come to you successively, either misery or happiness.” Umar b. Hafs said: “And this old man said to us: ‘I am better this year than last year. Last year I had a sheep, and this year I have no sheep.’” And a man said to him: “I want to marry a woman, so supplicate to Allah, Exalted is He, for me to marry me to a righteous woman.” He said: “So he supplicated to Allah, Exalted is He, and a righteous woman was prepared for him.”

When she finished, she asked him ﷺ about that, and he ﷺ said: "Say: 'O Allah, I ask You for all good, what I know of it and what I do not know, and I seek refuge in You from all evil, what I know of it and what I do not know, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from any word or deed that brings one near to it. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for any word or deed that brings one near to it. O Allah, I ask You for the good that Your servant and Messenger Muhammad asked You for.'"

She said: "And what are their comprehensive words and their endings?" He ﷺ said: "You say: 'O Allah, I ask You for all good, what I know of it and what I do not know, its immediate and its deferred, and I seek refuge in You from all evil, what I know of it and what I do not know, its immediate and its deferred. O Allah, whatever decree You have decreed, make its outcome right guidance.'"

    ✧ I was with 'Ammar ؓ when a man came to him and said: Shall I not teach you some words? It was as if he was raising them to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: "When you take your place of lying down at night, say: 'O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, and turned my face to You, and entrusted my affair to You, and leaned my back upon You, I believe in Your Book which You sent down and Your Prophet whom You sent. O Allah, my soul You have created; to You belongs its life and to You belongs its death. If You take it, have mercy on it, and if You delay it, guard it with the guarding of faith.'"

    ✧ A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ complaining to him of need. He ﷺ said: "Shall I not direct you to something better than that? You should declare the oneness of Allah, Exalted is He, thirty-three times when you go to bed, and glorify Him thirty-three times, and praise Him thirty-four times. That is one hundred, better for you than the world and all that is in it."

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would order his bed to be prepared for him and it would be spread for him, and he would face the qiblah. When he retired to it, he would place his right hand under his cheek, then he would whisper, and we did not know what he was saying. Then at the end of that, he would raise his voice and say: "O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Mighty Throne, God and Lord of everything, Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel and the Furqan, Splitter of the grain and the date-stone, I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything for which You hold the forelock. O Allah, You are the First, so there is nothing before You, and You are the Last, so there is nothing after You, and You are the Outward, so there is nothing above You, and You are the Inward, so there is nothing below You. Settle our debt and make us free from poverty."

    إِنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ ؓ كَانَ يُؤَرَّقُ أَوْ أَصَابَهُ أَرَقٌ فَشَكَا ذَلِكَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَعَوَّذَ عِنْدَ مَنَامِهِ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ، وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

    ✧ Khalid b. al-Walid ؓ was suffering from sleeplessness, or insomnia afflicted him, and he complained of that to the Prophet ﷺ. He commanded him to seek refuge at the time of sleeping with Allah's perfect words from His wrath and punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the whisperings of the devils and that they should come near.

    ✧ I complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of insomnia that had afflicted me, and he ﷺ said: 'Say: O Allah, the stars have set, the eyes have become still, and You are Living, Self-Subsisting; neither slumber nor sleep overtakes You. O Living, O Self-Subsisting, calm my night and grant sleep to my eyes.' I said it, and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, removed from me what I was experiencing.

    ✧ “Shall I not inform you of a matter that is true—whoever utters it at the beginning of his lying down during his illness, God Almighty will save him from the Fire?” He said: “Yes, by my father and mother.” He ﷺ said: “Know that if you reach the morning, you will not reach the evening, and if you reach the evening, you will not reach the morning. If you say this at the beginning of your lying down during your illness, God Almighty will save you by it from the Fire: ‘There is no god but God. He gives life and causes death, and He is Ever-Living and does not die. Glory be to the Lord of servants and lands. Praise be to God, abundant, good, and blessed praise, in every state. God is greatest—the pride of our Lord, His majesty, and His power in every place. O God, if You have made me ill in order to take my soul in this illness of mine, place my soul among the souls of those for whom the best has preceded from You. If you die in that illness, then [you go] to the good pleasure of God Almighty and Paradise, and if you have committed sins, God, Mighty and Majestic, will relent toward you.’”

O God, You are my trust and You are my hope. O God, suffice me against what concerns me and what does not concern me and what You know better than I. Provide me with piety, forgive me, and direct me toward good wherever I turn.”

    ✧ He sat in a gathering, and when he wanted to leave, he said: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise; I bear witness that there is no god but You; I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.' A man from the group said: 'What is this supplication, O Messenger of Allah?' He ﷺ said: 'Words that Gabriel ﷺ taught me, expiations for the sins of the gathering.'

    ✧ A man said in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'Praise be to Allah, much good and blessed praise.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Who said these words?' The man fell silent, thinking that he had displeased the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Who is he? He has spoken nothing but truth.' The man said: 'I said them, O Messenger of Allah, hoping for good.' He ﷺ said: 'By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I saw thirteen angels rushing to take up your words, each trying to be the one to raise them to Allah, Mighty and Majestic.'

    ✧ We entered upon Ibn ʿAbbās ؓ, and a man said to him: “Which deed is best?” He said: “Remembrance of God; God is Greater,” three times. Then he said: “No people sit in a house among the houses of God, Blessed and Exalted, studying the Book of God Almighty and passing it around among themselves, except that the angels shade them with their wings and they are the guests of God, Blessed and Exalted, until they rise.”

    ✧ While we were with the Messenger of God ﷺ traveling in a group from Jumdān, the Messenger of God ﷺ stopped and said: “O Muʿādh, where are the foremost?” I said: “Some have gone ahead and some have stayed behind.” He ﷺ said: “Where are the foremost who are devoted to the remembrance of God, Mighty and Majestic? Whoever would love to graze in the meadows of Paradise, let him increase in the remembrance of God, Mighty and Majestic.”

The profitable is a servant who remembers Allah, Mighty and Majestic, so Allah, the Exalted, remembers him. The safe is a servant who has not dictated to his scribe any good or evil. The harmful is the one who engages in falsehood, so he brings harm upon himself.

    ✧ To sit with people who remember Allah, Mighty and Majestic, from the dawn prayer until sunrise is more beloved to me than what the sun has risen upon. And to remember Allah from the afternoon prayer until sunset is more beloved to me than freeing eight descendants of Ishmael, the blood money of each of them being twelve thousand. We calculated their blood monies while we were in the gathering, and it reached ninety-six thousand. There are some who say: four descendants of Ishmael. By Allah, he only said eight, the blood money of each of them being twelve thousand.

    ✧ Whoever prays the dawn prayer, or he said the morning prayer, then remains seated in his place and does not engage in anything of worldly matters but remembers Allah, the Exalted, until he prays four rak'ahs of the forenoon prayer, he will come out of his sins like the day his mother gave birth to him, with no sin upon him.

    ✧ Will not one of you stand and pray four rak'ahs, and say in them what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: 'Your light is complete, and You guided, so to You be praise. Your forbearance is great, and You pardoned, so to You be praise. You spread Your hand and gave, so to You be praise. Your face is the greatest of faces, Your honor is the greatest of honors, and Your gift is the best and most pleasant of gifts. You are obeyed, our Lord, and You thank; You are disobeyed, our Lord, and You forgive. You answer the distressed, remove grief, heal the sick, forgive sin, and accept repentance. No one can repay Your favors, and no one's words can reach Your praise.'

    ✧ I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when morning came, he would say: 'We have entered the morning and the dominion belongs to Allah, and grandeur, majesty, creation, night and day, and whatever dwells in them belong to Allah alone, with no partner. O Allah, make the beginning of this day righteous, its middle successful, and its end prosperous. I ask You for the good of this world and the Hereafter.'

    كُنَّا جُلُوسًا مَعَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؓ، فَأُتِيَ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: أَدْرِكْ دَارَكَ، فَقَدِ احْتَرَقَتْ. فَقَالَ: مَا احْتَرَقَتْ دَارِي ؟ فَذَهَبَ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ، ( فَقَالَ لَهُ ): أَدْرِكْ دَارَكَ فَقَدِ احْتَرَقَتْ. فَقَالَ: لَا وَاللهِ مَا احْتَرَقَتْ دَارِي، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: يُقَالُ لَكَ: قَدِ احْتَرَقَتْ دَارُكَ، فَتَحْلِفُ بِاللهِ مَا احْتَرَقَتْ ؟ فَقَالَ ؓ: ( إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ: إِنَّ رَبِّيَ اللهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، مَا شَاءَ اللهُ كَانَ، وَمَا لَمْ يَشَأْ لَمْ يَكُنْ، لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ اللهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، وَأَنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا، أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ الَّذِي يُمْسِكُ السَّمَاءَ أَنْ تَقَعَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ رَبِّي آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا، إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ لَمْ يَرَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي نَفْسِهِ وَلَا أَهْلِهِ، وَلَا مَالِهِ شَيْئًا يَكْرَهُهُ، وَقَدْ قُلْتُهَا الْيَوْمَ

    ✧ We were sitting with a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ؓ, when someone came to him and said: 'Go to your house, for it has caught fire.' He said: 'My house has not caught fire.' He went, then came back, and it was said to him: 'Go to your house, for it has caught fire.' He said: 'No, by Allah, my house has not caught fire.' It was said to him: 'You are told that your house has caught fire, and you swear by Allah that it has not caught fire?' He ؓ said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever says in the morning: "My Lord is Allah, there is no god but Him, upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne. Whatever Allah wills happens, and whatever He does not will does not happen. There is no might nor power except with Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. I bear witness that Allah is capable of all things, and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge. I seek refuge in Allah, who holds the sky from falling upon the earth except by His permission, from the evil of every creature, my Lord is holding its forelock. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path." He will not see that day in himself, his family, or his wealth anything he dislikes. And I have said it today.'

    إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَّمَهُ دُعَاءً، وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَعَاهَدَ بِهِ أَهْلَهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ، قَالَ ﷺ: « قُلْ حِينَ تُصْبِحُ: لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَمِنْكَ وَلَكَ وَإِلَيْكَ، مَا قُلْتُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ، وَعَمِلْتُ مِنْ عَمَلٍ، أَوْ نَذَرْتُ مِنْ نَذْرٍ، أَوْ حَلَفْتُ مِنْ حَلِفٍ فَمَشِيئَتُكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ، مَا شِئْتَ كَانَ، وَمَا لَمْ تَشَأْ لَمْ يَكُنْ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِكَ، إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، اللَّهُمَّ مَا صَلَّيْتُ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ فَعَلَى مَنْ صَلَّيْتَ، وَمَا لَعَنْتُ مِنْ لَعْنٍ فَعَلَى مَنْ لَعَنْتَ، أَنْتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him a supplication and commanded him to keep reciting it with his family every day. He ﷺ said: 'Say when you enter the morning: Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, and at Your service; all good is in Your Hands, and from You, and for You, and to You. Whatever word I speak, whatever deed I do, whatever vow I make, whatever oath I swear, Your will precedes all of that. What You will happens, and what You do not will does not happen. There is no might nor power except with You. Surely You have power over all things. O Allah, whatever prayer I pray, let it be for the one upon whom You have prayed; whatever curse I utter, let it be upon the one whom You have cursed. You are my protector in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.'

    ✧ He used to supplicate with these invocations when he entered the morning and when he entered the evening: 'O Allah, I ask You for sudden good, and I seek refuge with You from sudden evil, for the servant does not know what may suddenly befall him when he enters the morning and when he enters the evening.'

    ✧ When the servant says upon entering the morning: 'O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no partner to You. I have entered the morning, and the dominion has entered the morning belonging to Allah, with no partner to Him.' When the servant says it upon entering the morning and upon entering the evening, I expiate for him whatever he has committed between them, or he said: whatever he has incurred between them.

    ✧ Ibn Umar ؓ, when he entered the morning, would say: 'O Allah, make me among the greatest of Your servants in share of every good You distribute in the morning: light by which You guide, mercy You spread, provision You extend, harm You remove, affliction You repel, tribulation You divert, and evil You ward off.'

    ✧ A crow with full wings was brought to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq ؓ. He ؓ said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'No game is hunted, no tree is cut, no branch is severed except due to a lack of glorification.' Then he ؓ released the crow.

    ✧ 'When I narrate to you a hadith, I inform you of its confirmation from the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. He said: No servant says: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is greatest, and blessed is Allah, except that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, appoints over them an angel who places them under his wings and ascends with them to the sky. They do not pass by any assembly of angels except that they seek forgiveness for the one who said them, until they greet the Face of the Most Merciful, Mighty and Majestic. Then Abdullah recited: To Him ascend the good words, and the righteous deed raises it.'

    ✧ I said to a jurist in Makkah: We have a jurist—meaning al-Hasan—who, when he is silent, his constant refrain is: Glory be to Allah and with His praise, glory be to Allah the Magnificent. He said: This companion of yours is indeed a jurist. No servant says it seven times except that a house is built for him in Paradise.

    ✧ Hidden remembrance, which the recording angels do not hear, is favored by seventy times. And he says: 'When the Day of Resurrection comes and Allah, the Exalted, gathers the creatures for their reckoning, and the recording angels come with what they recorded and wrote, Allah, the Exalted, says to them: Look, is anything left for him? They say: Our Lord, we have not left anything of what we knew and recorded except that we have counted and written it. Then Allah, Blessed and Exalted, says: You have with Me something hidden that you do not know, and I will reward you for it. That is hidden remembrance.'
