✧ We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ on a journey, and we passed by a village of ants that had been burned. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Indeed, it is not appropriate for a human to punish with the punishment of God.'

إِنَّ اللهَ وَعَدَنِي أَنْ يُدْخِلَ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي أَرْبَعَمِائَةِ أَلْفٍ. فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: زِدْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " وَهَكَذَا " وَجَمَعَ كَفَّيْهِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: حَسْبُكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: دَعْنِي يَا عُمَرُ، وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَنْ يُدْخِلَنَا الْجَنَّةَ كُلَّنَا، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: إِنَّ اللهَ إِنْ شَاءَ أَدْخَلَ خَلْقَهُ الْجَنَّةَ بِكَفٍّ وَاحِدٍ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " صَدَقَ عُمَرُ ".
✧ Indeed, God promised me to admit into Paradise four hundred thousand of my community. Abu Bakr said to him: 'Give us more, O Messenger of God.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'And like this,' and he joined his hands. Umar said: 'That is enough for you, O Abu Bakr.' Abu Bakr said: 'Let me be, O Umar, and what is it to you if He admits us all into Paradise?' Umar said: 'Indeed, God, if He wills, can admit His creation into Paradise with one handful.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Umar has spoken the truth.'

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِنِسَاءٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فِي عُرْسٍ لَهُنَّ يُغَنِّينَ: وَأَهْدَى لَهَا كَبْشًا تَنَحْنَحَ فِي الْمِرْبَدِ وَزَوْجُكِ فِي النَّادِي وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي غَدِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَا يَعْلَمُ مَا فِي غَدٍ إِلَّا اللهُ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ passed by some women of the Ansar at a wedding of theirs, while they were singing: 'And he gifted her a ram that coughed in the pen, and your husband is in the gathering, and he knows what tomorrow holds.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'No one knows what tomorrow holds except God.'

✧ They both pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ when they were seven years old. When the Messenger of God ﷺ saw them, he smiled and extended his hand, and they pledged allegiance to him.

✧ The pen is lifted from three: the sleeper until he wakes, the insane until he regains his sanity, and the child until he reaches maturity or has a wet dream.

نَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْحِجْرِ، وَاسْتَسْقَى النَّاسُ مِنْ بِئْرِهَا ثُمَّ رَاحَ مِنْهَا فَلَمَّا اسْتَقَلَّ أَمَرَ النَّاسَ أَنْ لَا يَشْرَبُوا مِنْ مَائِهَا، وَلَا يَتَوَضَّئُوا مِنْهَا، وَمَا كَانَ مِنْ عَجِينٍ عُجِنَ مِنْ مَائِهَا أَنْ يُعْلَفَ، فَفَعَلَ النَّاسُ.
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ encamped at al-Hijr, and the people drew water from its well. Then he departed from it, and when he had mounted and was about to leave, he ordered the people not to drink from its water, nor to perform ablution with it, and that any dough kneaded with its water should be fed to camels. The people did so.

مَنْ فَارَقَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قِيْدَ شِبْرٍ فَقَدْ خَلَعَ رِبْقَةَ الْإِسْلَامِ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ إِمَامٌ فَمِيتَتُهُ جَاهِلِيَّةٌ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ تَحْتَ رَايَةٍ عِمِّيَّةٍ يَنْصُرُ عَصَبِيَّةً فَقِتْلَتُهُ جَاهِلِيَّةٌ ".
✧ Whoever separates from the Muslims by a handspan has cast off the yoke of Islam from his neck. Whoever dies without having an imam (leader/caliph) over him, his death is a death of ignorance (Jahiliyyah). Whoever dies under a blind banner, supporting tribalism, his death is a death of ignorance.

الْكَمْأَةُ مِنَ الْمَنِّ، وَمَاؤُهَا شِفَاءٌ لِلْعَيْنِ، وَالْعَجْوَةُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ، وَهِيَ شِفَاءٌ مِنَ السُّمِّ ". قَالَ: وَنَعَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ عِرْقِ النَّسَا أَلْيَةَ كَبْشٍ.
✧ Truffles are from manna, and their water (juice) is a cure for the eye. Ajwa dates are from Paradise, and they are a cure for poison. He said: And the Messenger of God ﷺ prescribed for sciatica the fat-tail of a ram.

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ prayed in his house, and I said, 'O Messenger of God, may I wipe over the leather socks?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'For a day?' He said, 'And two days.' I said, 'And three, O Messenger of God?' He said, 'Yes, and whatever seems appropriate to you.'

مَنْ يَأْتِي الْمَدِينَةَ، فَلَا يَدَعْ قَبْرًا وَلَا وَثَنًا إِلَّا كَسَرَهُ، وَلَا صُورَةً إِلَّا لَطَّخَهَا ؟ " فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، ثُمَّ هَابَ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ فَجَلَسَ. قَالَ عَلِيٌّ: فَذَهَبْتُ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَمْ أَدَعْ قَبْرًا بِالْمَدِينَةِ إِلَّا سَوَّيْتُهُ، وَلَا وَثَنًا إِلَّا كَسَرْتُهُ، وَلَا صُورَةً إِلَّا لَطَّخْتُهَا، فَقَالَ: " يَا عَلِيُّ، لَا تَكُونَنَّ فَتَّانًا وَلَا مُخْتَالًا وَلَا تَاجِرًا، إِلَّا تَاجِرَ خَيْرٍ ".
✧ "Who will go to Madinah and not leave any grave or idol without breaking it, or any image without defacing it?" A man stood up and said, 'I will, O Messenger of God,' but then he was afraid of the people of Madinah and sat down. Ali said: 'So I went, then came back and said, "O Messenger of God, I did not leave any grave in Madinah without leveling it, nor any idol without breaking it, nor any image without defacing it." He said, "O Ali, do not be a troublemaker, nor arrogant, nor a merchant—except a merchant of good."

قِيلَ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ: أَخْبِرْنَا عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِالنَّهَارِ تَطَوُّعًا، فَقَالَ: لَا تُطِيقُوهَا، فَقَالُوا: حَدِّثْنَاهُ أَنْتَ، فَقَالَ: كَانَ إِذَا كَانَتِ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ هَا هُنَا مِنْ عِنْدِ الْعَصْرِ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ يُمْهِلُ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتِ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ هَا هُنَا مِنْ عِنْدِ الظُّهْرِ صَلَّى أَرْبَعًا، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ
✧ It was said to Ali b. Abi Talib: 'Tell us about the voluntary prayer of the Messenger of God ﷺ during the day.' He said: 'You cannot bear it.' They said: 'Tell us, you.' He said: 'When the sun was here, from the direction of the late afternoon, he would pray two rak'ahs. Then he would wait until the sun was here, from the direction of midday, and pray four rak'ahs. Then he would pray two rak'ahs after the noon prayer.'

كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُحْرِمَ أَتَى ذَا الْحُلَيْفَةِ فَبَاتَ بِهَا، فَإِذَا أَصْبَحَ رَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ، فَإِذَا اسْتَوَتْ أَهَلَّ " وَزَعَمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَفْعَلُهُ ".
✧ Ibn Umar, when he intended to enter ihram, would go to Dhu al-Hulayfah and spend the night there. When morning came, he would mount his riding camel, and when it stood upright he would begin the talbiyah. He claimed that the Messenger of God ﷺ used to do that.

أَقْرَأَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: سُورَةَ " حم "، فَرُحْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ، فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَسْجِدِ، قُلْتُ لَهُ: أَتَقْرَأُ هَذِهِ السُّورَةَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَقَرَأَ أُخْرَى لَا أَقْرَأُهَا، قُلْتُ: مَنْ أَقْرَأَكَ ؟ قَالَ: رَسُولُ اللهِ، قُلْتُ: رَسُولُ اللهِ أَقْرَأَنِي، فَلَقِيتُ آخَرَ، فَقُلْتُ: أَتَقْرَأُ هَذِهِ السُّورَةَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَقُلْتُ: اقْرَأْ، فَإِذَا هُوَ يَقْرَأُ قِرَاءَةَ صَاحِبِي، قُلْتُ: مَنْ أَقْرَأَكَ ؟ قَالَ: النَّبِيُّ ﷺ. قُلْتُ: وَأَنَا أَقْرَأَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ، قُلْتُ: خَالَفَنِي هَذَا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ، فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُهُ وَغَضِبَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ، وَكَانَ عِنْدَهُ، فَتَكَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ، وَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ يَأْمُرُ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنْكُمْ مَا عَلِمَ، فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِالِاخْتِلَافِ
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ taught me to recite Surah Ha-Mim. I went to the mosque and found a man among the people of the mosque. I said to him, 'Do you recite this surah?' He said, 'Yes,' and he recited a different version that I did not recite. I said, 'Who taught you?' He said, 'The Messenger of God.' I said, 'The Messenger of God taught me.' Then I met another man and said, 'Do you recite this surah?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Recite,' and he recited the same as my companion. I said, 'Who taught you?' He said, 'The Prophet ﷺ.' I said, 'And the Messenger of God ﷺ taught me.' So I went to the Prophet ﷺ while he was sitting, and I said, 'He differed with me in the recitation.' His face changed and he became angry, and he gestured to Ali, who was with him. The Messenger of God spoke, and Ali said: 'The Messenger of God commands that each man among you recite what he has learned, for those before you were destroyed only by disagreement.'

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: Shall I not teach you words which, if you say them, you will be forgiven—though you are already forgiven? (They are:) There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous; there is no god but Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent; glory be to Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne; praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

✧ The passing away of my nation will be through stabbing and the plague. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, this stabbing we know; what is the plague? He said: The piercing of your enemies from among the jinn, and in each there is martyrdom.

قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: هَلْ لِمَنْ قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا مُتَعَمِّدًا تَوْبَةٌ ؟ قَالَ: لَا، قُلْتُ: فَأَيْنَ قَوْلُهُ: وَالَّذِينَ لا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللهُ إِلا بِالْحَقِّ وَلا يَزْنُونَ وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَامًا يُضَاعَفْ لَهُ الْعَذَابُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيَخْلُدْ فِيهِ مُهَانًا إِلا مَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلا صَالِحًا فَأُولَئِكَ يُبَدِّلُ اللهُ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ حَسَنَاتٍ ؟ قَالَ: " هَذِهِ آيَةٌ مَكِّيَّةٌ نَسَخَتْهَا آيَةٌ مَدَنِيَّةٌ: وَمَنْ يَقْتُلْ مُؤْمِنًا مُتَعَمِّدًا فَجَزَاؤُهُ جَهَنَّمُ خَالِدًا فِيهَا وَغَضِبَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَعَنَهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُ عَذَابًا عَظِيمًا
✧ I said to Ibn Abbas: Is there repentance for one who kills a believer intentionally? He said: No. I said: Then what about His saying: 'And those who do not call upon another god with Allah, nor kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, nor commit adultery—and whoever does that will meet a penalty. The punishment will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated, except for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good deeds'? He said: This is a Makkan verse which was abrogated by a Madinan verse: 'And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, to abide therein, and Allah's wrath is upon him, and He has cursed him and prepared for him a great punishment.'

" أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِذَا أَخَذْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ فَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ، وَوَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ، وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ، وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ، رَهْبَةً وَرَغْبَةً إِلَيْكَ، لَا مَنْجَا وَلَا مَلْجَأَ مِنْكَ إِلَّا إِلَيْكَ، آمَنْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ، وَنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ، فَإِنْ مُتَّ مِنْ لَيْلَتِكَ مُتَّ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ، وَإِنْ أَصْبَحْتَ أَصَبْتَ خَيْرًا ".
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me: When you go to your bed, say: O Allah, I submit myself to You, and turn my face to You, and entrust my affair to You, and lean my back upon You, out of fear and hope in You. There is no refuge or escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You sent down, and Your Prophet whom You sent. If you die that night, you die upon the natural disposition; and if you wake up, you attain good.

✧ We were with Umm Salamah, asking her about the letters of the Quran. A man said: O Mother of the Believers, I sometimes say to myself something which, if I uttered it, would nullify my reward, and if it were known, my neck would be struck. She said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about the like of what you asked, and he said: That speech is only given to a believer.

He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'When Allah places in a man's heart the intention to propose to a woman, there is no harm in examining her appearance.'"

مَنْ غَدَا مِنْ بَيْتِهِ يَطْلُبُ عِلْمًا فَرَشَتْ لَهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا رِضًا بِمَا يَصْنَعُ. وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: " إِنَّ اللهَ فَتَحَ بَابًا قِبَلَ الْمَغْرِبِ، عَرْضُهُ سَبْعُونَ عَامًا، ثُمَّ لَا يُغْلِقُهُ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْهُ ". قُلْتُ: زِدْنِي رَحِمَكَ اللهُ. قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَجَاءَهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ جَهْوَرِيُّ الصَّوْتِ، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، قِفْ أَسْأَلُكَ، يَا مُحَمَّدُ، قِفْ أَسْأَلُكَ، فَأَجَابَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِنَحْوٍ مِنْ صَوْتِهِ، قَالَ: " هَاؤُمُ هَاؤُمُ "، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي، الرَّجُلُ يُحِبُّ الْقَوْمَ، وَيَعْرِفُ فَضْلَهُمْ، وَلَا يَعْمَلُ بِمِثْلِ عَمَلِهِمْ ؟ قَالَ: " هُوَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ ". قُلْتُ
✧ "Whoever leaves his home in the morning seeking knowledge, the angels spread their wings for him, pleased with what he is doing." And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Indeed Allah has opened a gate toward the west, the width of which is seventy years, then He will not close it until the sun rises from it." I said: "Tell me more, may Allah have mercy on you." He said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey when a Bedouin with a loud voice came to him and said: 'O Muhammad, stop so that I may ask you. O Muhammad, stop so that I may ask you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ answered him with a voice similar to his, saying: 'Come here, come here.' The Bedouin said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, what about a man who loves a people and recognizes their virtue but does not perform deeds like theirs?' He said: 'He will be with those whom he loves on the Day of Resurrection.'" I said:

رُفِعَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ طَعَنَ رَجُلًا عَلَى فَخِذِهِ بِقَرْنٍ، فَقَالَ الَّذِي طُعِنَ فَخِذُهُ: أَقِدْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ: دَاوُوهَا، وَاسْتَأْنِي بِهَا حَتَّى نَنْظُرَ إِلَى مَا تَصِيرُ. فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: أَقِدْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: أَقِدْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَأَقَادَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَيَبِسَتْ رِجْلُ الَّذِي اسْتَقَادَ، وَبَرِأَ الَّذِي اسْتُقِيدَ مِنْهُ، فَأَبْطَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ دِيَتَهَا.
✧ A man who had stabbed another man in the thigh with a horn was brought to the Prophet ﷺ. The one whose thigh was stabbed said: "Give me retaliation, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah said: "Treat it, and wait with it until we see what it becomes." The man said again: "Give me retaliation, O Messenger of Allah." He replied to him similarly. The man said: "Give me retaliation, O Messenger of Allah." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted him retaliation. Then the leg of the one who sought retaliation withered, while the one from whom retaliation was taken healed. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ nullified its blood money.

✧ Salim b. 'Abd Allah b. 'Umar was sitting with al-Hajjaj, and al-Hajjaj said to him: "Get up and strike the neck of this man." So Salim took the sword, took the man, and headed toward the gate of the palace. His father saw him heading with the man, and said: "Do you think he will do it?" He repeated that two or three times. When Salim came out with him, he said to him: "Did you pray the morning prayer?" The man said: "Yes." Salim said: "Then take whichever road you wish." Then Salim came back and threw down the sword. Al-Hajjaj said to him: "Did you strike his neck?" He said: "No." Al-Hajjaj said: "Why?" He said: "I heard my father say: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever prays the morning prayer is under Allah's protection until evening.'"

✧ We emigrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and our reward fell upon Allah. Among us were those who died without enjoying any of their reward. Among them was Mus'ab b. 'Umayr, who was killed on the day of Uhud. Nothing was found for him except a striped cloak. When his head was covered with it, his feet stuck out, and when his feet were covered with it, his head stuck out. That was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: 'Cover his head with it, and put idhkhir over his feet.' And among us are those whose fruit has ripened, and they are gathering it.

✧ A dead person died, and they passed by the Messenger of God ﷺ and invited him to pray over him. He said: "Does your companion owe a debt?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of God, two dinars." He said: "Pray over your companion." A man from his relatives said: "I will bear it, O Messenger of God." He said: "It is upon you, and he is free from it." He said: "Yes." Then the Messenger of God prayed over him. Later he met him and said: "What have you done?" He said: "I have not finished." He said: "Relieve your companion, then hasten to settle it." Then he met him and said: "I have settled it, O Messenger of God." He said: "Now you have relieved your companion."

✧ The poor of my community will enter Paradise forty autumns before their rich. I said: "O Messenger of God, describe them to us." He said: "They are those whose clothes are shabby and whose hair is disheveled, who are not granted permission to enter upon rulers, and who do not marry women accustomed to luxury. They fulfill everything that is upon them, but they are not given everything that is due to them."

✧ I saw Abu Dharr al-Ghifari holding the two doorposts of the Kaaba and saying: "Whoever knows me has known me, and whoever does not know me, I am Abu Dharr al-Ghifari. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'The likeness of my household among you is like the ark of Noah among the people of Noah: whoever boards it is saved, and whoever stays behind from it perishes. And like the gate of Hittah among the Children of Israel.'"

Someone whom God willed to speak said: 'How can we beware of it, O Messenger of God, when it is more hidden than the crawling of an ant?' He said: 'Say: O God, we seek refuge in You from associating anything with You that You know, and we seek Your forgiveness for what we do not know.'"

أَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ خَاثِرُ النَّفْسِ، وَأَمْسَى وَهُوَ كَذَلِكَ، وَأَصْبَحَ وَهُوَ كَذَلِكَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا لِي أَرَاكَ خَاثِرًا ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ وَعَدَنِي أَنْ يَأْتِيَنِي وَمَا أَخْلَفَنِي قَطُّ فَنَظَرُوا فَإِذَا جَرْوُ كَلْبٍ تَحْتَ نَضَدٍ لَهُمْ، فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِذَلِكَ الْجَرْوِ فَأُخْرِجَ، وَأَمَرَ بِذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ فَغُسِلَ بِالْمَاءِ، فَجَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " إِنَّكَ وَعَدْتَنِي أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي وَمَا أَخْلَفْتَنِي قَطُّ ؟ قَالَ: أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَلَا صُورَةٌ ؟
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up one morning with a heavy heart, and he remained so until evening, and woke up again the same way. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, why do I see you heavy-hearted?' He said: 'Jibril promised to come to me and he has never broken a promise to me.' They looked, and there was a puppy under a shelf of theirs. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that puppy to be taken out, and ordered that place to be washed with water. Then Jibril came, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'You promised to come to me and you have never broken a promise to me?' He said: 'Do you not know that we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image?'

لَمَّا بَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ، تَبِعْتُهُ فَرَأَيْتُ مِنْهُ ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ، لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّتُهُنَّ أَعْجَبُ: انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى شَاطِئِ الْبَحْرِ، فَقَالَ: سَمُّوا وَاقْتَحِمُوا، قَالَ: فَسَمَّيْنَا وَاقْتَحَمْنَا فَعَبَرْنَا فَمَا بَلَّ الْمَاءُ إِلَّا أَسَافِلَ خِفَافِ إِبِلِنَا، فَلَمَّا قَفَلْنَا صِرْنَا مَعَهُ بِفَلَاةٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مَاءٌ، فَشَكَوْنَا إِلَيْهِ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ دَعَا فَإِذَا سَحَابَةٌ مِثْلُ التُّرْسِ، ثُمَّ أَرْخَتْ غَزَالَيْهَا، فَسَقَيْنَا وَاسْتَقَيْنَا، وَمَاتَ فَدَفَنَّاهُ فِي الرَّمْلِ، فَلَمَّا سِرْنَا غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ قُلْنَا: يَجِيءُ سَبُعٌ فَيَأْكُلُهُ، فَرَجَعْنَا، فَلَمْ نَرَهُ
✧ When the Prophet ﷺ sent al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Ḥaḍramī to Bahrain, I followed him and saw three qualities in him. I do not know which of them was more amazing: We reached the shore of the sea, and he said: “Say ‘Bismillah’ and plunge in.” He said: So we said “Bismillah” and plunged in, and we crossed, and the water only touched the lower parts of our camels’ hooves. When we returned, we were with him in a waterless desert, and we had no water with us. We complained to him, so he prayed two rakʿahs then supplicated, and there was a cloud like a shield. Then it let down its spouts, and we drank and gave water to our mounts. And he died, so we buried him in the sand. When we had traveled not far, we said: “A wild beast will come and eat him.” So we went back, but we did not see him.

✧ We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the funeral of a man from the Anṣār. We reached the grave, but it had not yet been dug. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down, and we sat around him, as if birds were on our heads.

✧ I was walking with Ibn Umar when he passed by some people who had set up a bird as a target and were shooting at it. Ibn Umar said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed whoever does this.

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا عَلَى حِمَارٍ لِي تَكَادُ تُصِيبُ رِجْلِي الْأَرْضَ مِنْ صِغَرِ الْحِمَارِ، إِذْ أَنَا بِصَلْعَةِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ تَبِصُّ فِي الْقَمْرَاءِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ ؟ قَالَ: حَاجَةً لِي، قُلْتُ: أَلَا تَرْكَبُ ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى. فَتَخَلَّفْتُ عَلَى عَجُزِ الْحِمَارِ، فَقُلْتُ: ارْكَبْ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، فَقَالَ: لَا أَفْعَلُ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: صَاحِبُ الدَّابَّةِ أَحَقُّ بِصَدْرِ الدَّابَّةِ، وَصَاحِبُ الْفَرَسِ أَحَقُّ بِصَدْرِ الْفَرَسِ
✧ While I was on a donkey of mine, my feet almost touching the ground because of its small size, I suddenly came upon the bald spot of Ali b. Abi Talib, the Commander of the Faithful, gleaming in the moonlight. I said: O Commander of the Faithful, where are you heading? He said: For something I need. I said: Won't you ride? He said: Yes. So I moved to the back of the donkey and said: Ride, O Commander of the Faithful. He said: I will not, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The owner of the mount has more right to its front, and the owner of the horse has more right to its front.

✧ Al-Abbas, the paternal uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, was among those who guarded him. When this verse was revealed: 'O Messenger, convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord; and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people,' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ discontinued the guard.

✧ A letter came to me from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, in which was written: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Ziyada b. Jahwar. Peace be upon you. I praise to you Allah, there is no god but He. To proceed: I remind you of Allah and the Last Day. To proceed: every religion that people follow will be set aside except Islam, so know that.

غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَصَبْنَا حُمُرًا مِنْ حُمُرِ الْبُيُوتِ فَذَبَحْنَاهَا، وَطَبَخْنَاهَا، فَأُخْبِرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَمَرَ مُنَادِيًا، فَنَادَى فِي النَّاسِ: " أَنَّ لُحُومَ حُمُرِ الْإِنْسِ لَا تَحِلُّ، حَرَّمَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ "، وَأَصَابُوا فِي حِيطَانِهَا بَصَلًا وَثُومًا، فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهُ، وَالْقَوْمُ جِيَاعٌ، فَرَاحُوا، فَإِذَا رِيحُ الْمَسْجِدِ بَصَلًا وَثُومًا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَنْ أَكَلَ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ الْخَبِيثَةَ فَلَا يَقْرَبْنَا فِي مَسْجِدِنَا
✧ We went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we seized some domestic donkeys, so we slaughtered them and cooked them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed, so he ordered a crier, who announced among the people: The meat of domestic donkeys is not lawful; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden it. They also found onions and garlic in the gardens and ate from them, and the people were hungry. They went to the mosque, and the smell of onions and garlic was in the mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever eats this foul plant should not come near us in our mosque.

يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ، اذْكُرُوا يَوْمَ الْخَلَاصِ، قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا. قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَمَا يَوْمُ الْخَلَاصِ ؟ قَالَ: " يَأْتِي الدَّجَّالُ حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ بِذُبَابٍ فَلَا يَبْقَى بِالْمَدِينَةِ كَافِرٌ، وَلَا كَافِرَةٌ، وَلَا مُشْرِكٌ، وَلَا مُشْرِكَةٌ، وَلَا مُنَافِقٌ، وَلَا مُنَافِقَةٌ، إِلَّا خَرَجُوا إِلَيْهِ فَيَخْلُصُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ فَذَلِكَ يَوْمُ الْخَلَاصِ
✧ O people of Madinah, remember the Day of Deliverance. He said it three times. They said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the Day of Deliverance? He said: The Dajjal will come until he camps at Dhubab, and no disbeliever, male or female, no polytheist, male or female, no hypocrite, male or female, will remain in Madinah but that they will go out to him. On that day the believers will be left pure, and that is the Day of Deliverance.

الْأَئِمَّةُ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، أَبْرَارُهَا أُمَرَاءُ أَبْرَارِهَا، وَفُجَّارُهَا أُمَرَاءُ فُجَّارِهَا، وَلِكُلٍّ حَقٌّ، فَآتُوا كُلَّ ذِي حَقٍّ حَقَّهُ، وَإِنْ أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ حَبَشِيٌّ مُجَدَّعٌ فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَأَطِيعُوا، مَا لَمْ يُخَيَّرْ أَحَدُكُمْ بَيْنَ إِسْلَامِهِ وَبَيْنَ ضَرْبِ عُنُقِهِ، فَإِنْ خُيِّرَ بَيْنَ إِسْلَامِهِ وَبَيْنَ ضَرْبِ عُنُقِهِ، فَلْيَمْدُدْ عُنُقَهُ، ثَكِلَتْهُ أُمُّهُ، فَلَا دُنْيَا وَلَا آخِرَةَ بَعْدَ ذَهَابِ إِسْلَامِهِ
✧ The leaders are from Quraysh: the righteous among them are leaders of their righteous, and the wicked among them are leaders of their wicked. Each has a right, so give every rightful one his right. And if an Ethiopian slave with mutilated nose and ears is appointed over you, listen to him and obey, as long as one of you is not made to choose between his Islam and the striking of his neck. If he is made to choose between his Islam and the striking of his neck, let him stretch out his neck—may his mother be bereaved of him—for there is no worldly life or Hereafter after the loss of his Islam.

✧ Indeed Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will hold a creditor against his debtor in the strongest way anything is held against another. He will say: O Lord, how can I repay him when You have raised me barefoot and naked? From where? Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will say: I will give them from your good deeds what they gave you. So it will be thrown onto the good deeds of the people. If that covers it, then fine; otherwise, I will take from the bad deeds of the people and throw them onto your bad deeds.

كُنَّا فِي مَسِيرٍ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَمَعَكَ مَاءٌ ؟ " قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، فَنَزَلَ عَنْ رَاحِلَتِهِ، ثُمَّ مَشَى حَتَّى تَوَارَى عَنِّي، فَلَمَّا أَقْبَلَ اسْتَقْبَلْتُهُ بِالْمِطْهَرَةِ، فَتَوَضَّأَ وَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ، وَكَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شَامِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْيَدَيْنِ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ وَغَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ، ثُمَّ أَهْوَيْتُ إِلَى خُفَّيْهِ لِأَنْتَزِعَهُمَا، فَقَالَ: " دَعْهُمَا فَإِنَّى أَدْخَلْتُهُمَا وَهُمَا طَاهِرَتَانِ " فَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ.
✧ We were on a journey, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "Do you have water with you?" I said: Yes. He dismounted from his riding animal, then walked until he was hidden from me. When he returned, I met him with the water vessel. He performed wudu: he washed his hands, washed his face, and he was wearing a Syrian jubbah with tight sleeves, so he took his hand out from under the jubbah and washed his forearms. He wiped his head, then I reached for his leather socks to remove them, but he said: "Leave them, for I put them on while they were pure," and he wiped over his leather socks.

✧ She was with her mother Bint al-ʿAjmāʾ during the days of Hajj at Mina, when Budayl b. Warqāʾ al-Khuzāʿī came to them on the riding animal of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and called out: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ says: Whoever is fasting should break his fast, for these are days of eating and drinking.

خَرَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ تِهَامَةَ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بِعُسْفَانَ جَاءَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، جَهَدَنَا الْجُوعُ، فَأْذَنْ لَنَا فِي الظَّهْرِ أَنْ نَأْكُلَهُ، فَقَالَ: " نَعَمْ " فَأُخْبِرَ بِذَلِكَ عُمَرُ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ مَا صَنَعْتَ ؟ أَمَرْتَ النَّاسَ أَنْ يَأْكُلُوا الظَّهْرَ، فَعَلَى مَاذَا يَرْكَبُونَ ؟ قَالَ: " مَا تَرَى يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؟ " قَالَ: أَرَى أَنْ تَأْمُرَهُمْ - وَأَنْتَ أَفْضَلُ رَأْيًا - أَنْ يَجْمَعُوا فَضْلَ أَزْوَادِهِمْ فِي ثَوْبٍ، ثُمَّ تَدْعُو اللهَ لَهُمْ، فَإِنَّ اللهَ يَسْتَجِيبُ لَكَ، فَأَمَرَهُمْ، فَجَمَعُوا فَضْلَ أَزْوَادِهِمْ فِي ثَوْبٍ، ثُمَّ دَعَا اللهَ لَهُمْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: ائْتُوا بِأَوْعِيَتِكُمْ فَمَلَأَ كُلُّ إِنْسَانٍ مِنْهُمْ وِعَاءَهُ، ثُمَّ أَذِنَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِالرَّحِيلِ فَلَمَّا ارْتَحَلُوا أُمْطِرُوا مَا شَاءَ اللهُ، وَنَزَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَنَزَلُوا مَعَهُ، وَشَرِبُوا مِنَ الْمَاءِ هُمْ وَالْكُرَاعُ. ثُمَّ خَطَبَهُمْ، فَجَاءَ نَفَرٌ ثَلَاثَةٌ، فَجَلَسَ اثْنَانِ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَذَهَبَ الْآخَرُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ عَنِ النَّفَرِ الثَّلَاثَةِ ؟ أَمَّا وَاحِدٌ فَاسْتَحْيَا فَاسْتَحَى اللهُ مِنْهُ، وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَأَقْبَلَ تَائِبًا فَتَابَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ، وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَأَعْرَضَ فَأَعْرَضَ اللهُ عَنْهُ
✧ I went out with the Messenger of God ﷺ on the expedition of Tihamah, until when he was at 'Usfan his companions came to him and said: O Messenger of God, hunger has exhausted us, so permit us to eat the camels used for riding. He said: "Yes." 'Umar was informed of that, so he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Prophet of God, what have you done? You ordered the people to eat the riding camels, so on what will they ride? He said: "What do you think, O Ibn al-Khattab?" He said: I think that you should order them—and you are better in opinion—to gather the surplus of their provisions in a cloth, then you supplicate God for them, for God will answer you. So he ordered them, and they gathered the surplus of their provisions in a cloth, then he supplicated God for them, then he said: Bring your vessels. So every person among them filled his vessel. Then the Prophet ﷺ permitted departure. When they departed, they were given rain as much as God willed, and the Prophet ﷺ dismounted and they dismounted with him, and they drank from the water, they and the livestock. Then he addressed them, and a group of three came. Two sat with the Prophet ﷺ and the other went away. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Shall I inform you about the three? As for one, he was shy, and God was shy of him; as for the other, he came repentant, and God turned to him; as for the other, he turned away, and God turned away from him."

مَا فَرِحْنَا بِشَيْءٍ بَعْدَ الْإِسْلَامِ فَرَحَنَا بِحَدِيثٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ يُؤْجَرُ فِي هِدَايَتِهِ السَّبِيلَ، وَفِي تَعْبِيرِهِ بِلِسَانِهِ عَنِ الْأَعْجَمِيِّ، وَفِي إِمَاطَةِ الْأَذَىِ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ، حَتَّى إِنَّهُ لَيُؤْجَرُ فِي السِّلْعَةِ تَكُونُ فِي ثَوْبِهِ، فَيَلْتَمِسُهَا بِيَدِهِ، فَتُخْطِئُهَا فَيَخْفُقُ لَهَا فُؤَادُهُ، فَيَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ، وَيُكْتَبُ لَهُ أَجْرُهَا
✧ We did not rejoice at anything after Islam as much as we rejoiced at a hadith the Messenger of God ﷺ narrated to us. He said: The believer is rewarded for guiding someone to the right path, for expressing with his tongue on behalf of a non-Arab, for removing harm from the road—even for a small item that is in his garment and he searches for it with his hand and misses it, so his heart beats for it, and then he finds it; its reward is written for him.

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَلْ بَعْدَ هَذَا الْخَيْرِ مِنْ شَرٍّ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، شَرٌّ وَفِتْنَةٌ " قُلْتُ: بَعْدَ هَذَا الشَّرِّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، هُدْنَةٌ عَلَى دَخَنٍ، وَجَمَاعَةٌ عَلَى إِقْذَاءٍ فِيهَا " قُلْتُ: هَلْ بَعْدَ هَذَا الْخَيْرِ مِنْ شَرٍّ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، فِتْنَةٌ صَمَّاءُ عَمْيَاءُ، وَدُعَاةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى النَّارِ، فَلَأَنْ تَمُوتَ يَا حُذَيْفَةُ عَاضًّا عَلَى جِذْعٍ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ تَسْتَجِيبَ إِلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ
✧ I said: O Messenger of God, will there be evil after this good? He said: "Yes, evil and tribulation." I said: Will there be good after this evil? He said: "Yes, a truce upon corruption, and a community upon impurity within it." I said: Will there be evil after this good? He said: "Yes, a deaf and blind tribulation, and callers calling to the Fire. That you should die, O Hudhayfah, biting on a tree trunk is better than responding to any of them."

أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِقِطْعَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، كَانَتْ أَوَّلَ صَدَقَةٍ جَاءَتْهُ مِنْ مَعْدِنٍ فَقَالَ: " مَا هَذِهِ ؟ " قَالُوا: صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَعْدِنٍ لَنَا، فَقَالَ: إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ مَعَادِنُ، وَسَيَكُونُ فِيهَا شِرَارُ خَلْقِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ was brought a piece of gold, the first charity that came to him from a mine. He said: "What is this?" They said: Charity from a mine of ours. He said: There will be mines, and in them will be the worst of the creation of God, Mighty and Majestic.

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, I have wealth and dependents, and my father has wealth and dependents, and he wants to take my wealth to add to his wealth. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "You and your wealth belong to your father."

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ used to pray while carrying Umama bt. Abi al-As b. al-Rabi, who was the daughter of Zaynab bt. the Messenger of God ﷺ. When he bowed he would put her down, and when he stood he would carry her, until he finished his prayer.

✧ We complained to the Messenger of God ﷺ about the intense heat of the ground, but he did not heed our complaint. He said: “Increase in saying, ‘There is no might and no power except with God,’ for it repels ninety-nine doors of affliction, the least of which is anxiety.”

✧ The people of knowledge from the family of Muhammad ﷺ and Aisha bt. Abi Bakr knew—so ask her—that the companions of the black one with the breast-like growth are cursed upon the tongue of the unlettered Prophet, and he who fabricated has failed.
