machine translationMālik narrates it, and there is disagreement about what he reported. Abū Khālid Yazīd b. Saʿīd al-Aṣbaḥī al-Iskandarānī narrated it from Mālik, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ: "The Friday ghusl is obligatory upon every one who has reached puberty, like the ghusl for janābah." Isḥāq b. Mūsā contradicted him, narrating it from Maʿn, from Mālik, as mawqūf (a statement of the Companion). The narrators of the Muwaṭṭaʾ, such as al-Qaʿnabī, Ibn Wahb and others, narrated it likewise. ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it from Mālik, from al-Maqburī, from Abū Hurayrah, as mawqūf: "Whoever comes to the Friday prayer, let him perform ghusl." These wordings are an error (wahm), and the one before it is sounder. Ayyūb b. Ṣāliḥ narrated it from Mālik, saying: from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, but he was not corroborated in his saying "from his father." The correct view is that of the narrators of the Muwaṭṭaʾ, al-Qaʿnabī and those who followed him: al-Maqburī, from Abū Hurayrah, as mawqūf.
