حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ حُبَاشٍ الْحِمَّانِيُّ، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الْعَطَّارُ، نَا سَيْفُ بْنُ عَمِيرَةَ، عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ تَغْلِبَ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، قَالَ:

كُنَّا عِنْدَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، نَسْأَلُهَا عَنْ حُرُوفِ الْقُرْآنِ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، إِنِّي لَأُحَدِّثُ نَفْسِي بِالشَّيْءِ لَوْ تَكَلَّمْتُ بِهِ لَأَحْبَطْتُ أَجْرِي، وَلَوِ اطُّلِعَ عَلَيَّ لَضُرِبَتْ عُنُقِي. قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُسْأَلُ عَنْ مِثْلِ مَا سَأَلْتَ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ: لَا يُلَقَّى ذَلِكَ الْكَلَامَ إِلَّا مُؤْمِنٌ.

✧ We were with Umm Salamah, asking her about the letters of the Quran. A man said: O Mother of the Believers, I sometimes say to myself something which, if I uttered it, would nullify my reward, and if it were known, my neck would be struck. She said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being asked about the like of what you asked, and he said: That speech is only given to a believer.
