He said: “The prophets.” I said: Then who? He said: “Then the righteous. A man would be tried with poverty until he found nothing but a cloak, and he would wrap himself in it and wear it. One of them would be tried with lice until the lice killed him, and that was dearer to them than what is given to you.”

Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.

✧ A hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said, 'And what is it?' He said, 'While I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I saw in his face something that distressed me. I said, "May my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of Allah, what is it that I see in your face?" He said, "A matter I fear for my ummah after me." I said, "And what is it?" He said, "Shirk and hidden desire." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, will your ummah commit shirk after you?" He said, "O Shaddad, indeed they will not worship a sun, nor a moon, nor an idol, nor a stone, but they will show off to people with their deeds." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, is showing off shirk?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Then what is the hidden desire?" He said, "One of you wakes up fasting, and a desire from the desires of this world is presented to him, and he breaks his fast."'

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, 'Visit the graves, for they remind you of the Hereafter. Wash the dead, for handling an empty body is an eloquent admonition. Pray over the funerals, perhaps that will grieve you, for the grieving one is in the shade of Allah on the Day of Resurrection.'

  99. al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7942Sahih

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The grave is the first of the stages of the Hereafter. If one is saved from it, then what comes after is easier than it. And if one is not saved from it, then what comes after is more severe than it.' Sahih.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for retribution against himself for a scratch he inflicted on a bedouin unintentionally. Then Jibril ﷺ came to him and said, 'O Muhammad, Allah did not send you as a tyrant or arrogant.' So the Prophet ﷺ called the bedouin and said, 'Take retribution from me.' The bedouin said, 'I have pardoned you, may my father and mother be your ransom. I would never do that, even if it cost me my life.' So he supplicated for good for him.
