40. Vows
al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7837Sahih
✧ That he heard 'Abd Allah b. 'Umar when a man from Banu Ka'b called Mas'ud b. 'Amr asked him: O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, my son was in the land of Persia among those with 'Umar b. 'Ubayd Allah, and a severe plague struck al-Basrah. When that reached me, I vowed that if Allah brought my son back, I would walk to the Ka'bah. He returned sick and died. What do you think? Ibn 'Umar said: Were you not forbidden from vows? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "A vow does not bring anything forward or delay it; it only extracts something from the miser." Fulfill your vow.
al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7838Sahih
✧ “A vow does not bring near to the son of Adam anything that Allah, Exalted is He, had not decreed for him, but the vow coincides with destiny, and thereby is extracted from the miser what the miser did not want to give.”

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about that, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: “Pray here,” meaning in the Sacred Mosque. He said: O Messenger of Allah, I only vowed to pray in Jerusalem. He said: “Pray here.”

✧ “There is no vow in disobedience, and its expiation is the expiation of an oath.”

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no vow in disobedience." The man who did not mention him (Muhammad) but mentioned Yahiya is Muhammad ibn Zubeir without a doubt. He intended to say from the tribe of Hanzalah, but he said from the tribe of Hanifa. As for his statement ﷺ, "There is no vow in disobedience," it is agreed upon by the two sheikhs (referring to Bukhari and Muslim) and the narrations support the authenticity on Muhammad ibn Zubeir al-Hanzali, and it is not correct.
