✧ “It is written in the Torah: Whoever is pleased that his life be prolonged and his provision increased, let him maintain his womb-tie.”

  15. al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7280Abu Dawud silent

✧ “God grants a people long life and increases their wealth without having looked at them once since He created them out of hatred for them.” They said: “How is that, O Messenger of God?” He said: “By their maintaining their womb-ties.”

  18. al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7283Sahih

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Know your lineages so that you may maintain your womb-ties. There is no closeness for a womb-tie when it is severed, even if it is near, and no distance for it when it is maintained, even if it is far.”

  19. al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7284Sahih

✧ “Learn of your lineages that by which you maintain your womb-ties, for maintaining the womb-tie brings love in the family, increase in wealth, and prolongation of one’s trace.”

✧ I met the Messenger of God ﷺ and I hastened and took hold of his hand, and he hastened and took hold of my hand. He said: “O ‘Uqbah, shall I tell you the best character of the people of this world and the Hereafter? Maintain ties with the one who cuts you off, give to the one who deprives you, and pardon the one who wrongs you. And whoever wants his lifespan to be extended and his provision to be expanded, let him maintain his womb-tie.” Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.

✧ I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: When God ﷻ finished the creation, the womb-tie stood and took hold of the waist of the Most Merciful. He said: “Stop.” It said: “This is the station of one who seeks refuge with You from severance.” He said: “Would you not be pleased that I maintain ties with whoever maintains you and sever whoever severs you? Recite if you will: ‘So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption in the land and sever your womb-ties’ [Muhammad: 22] up to His saying ‘Do they not then reflect upon the Quran’ [al-Nisa: 82] etc.”

  22. al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7287Sahih

✧ The womb-tie is a branch of the Most Merciful. It says: “O Lord, I have been severed; I have been mistreated; O Lord.” Its Lord answers it and says: “Would you not be pleased that I maintain ties with whoever maintains you and sever whoever severs you?”

  23. al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7288Sahih

✧ “The womb-tie will come on the Day of Resurrection with a hook like the hook of a spindle, and it will speak with an eloquent, piercing tongue, and it will maintain ties with whoever maintained it and sever whoever severed it.”

✧ There is no sin more likely and deserving that Allah, the Exalted, make its perpetrator suffer punishment in this world along with what He stores for him in the Hereafter than severing ties of kinship and oppression.

  26. al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7291Sahih

✧ It is not permissible to abandon a fellow Muslim for more than three days. If they meet and one of them greets the other and the other returns the greeting, they share in the reward. If the other refuses to return the greeting, this one is free of sin and the other bears it. I think he said: And if they die while they are in a state of mutual abandonment, they will not be gathered together in Paradise.

  27. al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7292Sahih

Al-Dhahabi omitted it from the Talkhis.

✧ He set out with his maternal cousin Mu'adh b. 'Afra' until they reached Makkah. When they descended from the mountain pass, they saw a man under a tree. This was before the coming of the six Anṣari men. When we saw him, we spoke to him and said, 'We will go to this man and leave our mounts with him while we circumambulate the House.' We greeted him with the greeting of the pre-Islamic ignorance, and he replied with the greeting of the people of Islam. We had heard about the Prophet ﷺ, so we objected and said, 'Who are you?' He said, 'Dismount.' We dismounted and said, 'Where is the man who claims and says what he says?' He said, 'I am he.' I said, 'Then present to me,' and he presented Islam to us and said, 'Who created the heavens, the earth, and the mountains?' We said, 'Allah created them.' He said, 'Who created you?' We said, 'Allah.' He said, 'Who made these idols that you worship?' We said, 'We did.' He said, 'Is the Creator more deserving of worship or the created? You are more deserving that they worship you, since you made them, and Allah is more deserving that you worship Him than something you made. I call to the worship of Allah, to the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, to maintaining ties of kinship, and to abandoning aggression by usurping people's property.' We said, 'No, by Allah, even if what you call to were false, it would be among the noblest of matters and the best of morals. Hold our mounts until we go to the House.' Mu'adh b. 'Afra' sat with him. I went to the House, circumambulated, brought out seven arrows, and assigned one of them to him. I faced the House and said, 'O Allah, if what Muhammad calls to is true, then make his arrow come out seven times.' I cast them, and his arrow came out seven times. I affirmed, 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.' People gathered around me and said, 'A madman! A man has turned renegade.' I said, 'Rather, a believing man.' Then I went to the upper part of Makkah. When Mu'adh saw me, he said, 'Rifa'ah has come with a face like none he left with.' I came and believed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us Surah Yusuf and 'Read in the name of your Lord who created.' Then we departed returning to Madinah. When we were at al-'Aqiq, Mu'adh said, 'I have never come to my family at night, so stay with us until morning.' I said, 'I will not stay while I have with me what I have of news.' Rifa'ah's custom was that when he went on a journey and returned, he would present himself to his people.

✧ She said: "A woman from the people of Dawmat al-Jandal came to me. She had come seeking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after his death, soon after that, asking him about something she had gotten into concerning the matter of sorcery, which she had not practiced." 'A'ishah said to 'Urwah: "O son of my sister, I saw her weeping when she did not find the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to heal her, so much so that I felt mercy for her. She was saying: 'I fear that I have perished. I had a husband who was absent from me, and an old woman entered upon me. I complained to her, and she said: "If you do what I command you, perhaps he will come to you." When night came, she brought me two black dogs, and I mounted one of them while she mounted the other. It was not long before we stopped at Babylon, and there I saw two men hung by their feet. They said: "What brought you here?" I said: "I came to learn sorcery." They said: "We are only a trial, so do not disbelieve and go back." But I refused and said: "No." They said: "Go to that oven and urinate in it." So I went, but I was frightened and did not do it, then I returned to them. They asked me: "Did you do it?" I said: "Yes." They said: "Did you see anything?" I said: "I saw nothing." They said: "You did not do it. Go back to your land and do not disbelieve." But I refused. They said: "Go to that oven and urinate in it." So I went, and my skin trembled and I was afraid, then I returned to them. They said: "What did you see?" I said: "I saw nothing." They said: "You lied. You did not do it. Go back to your land and do not disbelieve, for you are at the height of your affair." But I refused. They said: "Go to that oven and urinate in it." So I went and urinated in it. Then I saw a horseman masked in iron come out of me and go up into the sky until he disappeared from me and I could no longer see him. I came to them and said: "I have done it." They said: "What did you see?" I said: "I saw a horseman masked in iron come out of me and go up into the sky until he disappeared from me and I could no longer see anything." They said: "You have spoken the truth. That was your faith leaving you. Go." I said to the woman: "By Allah, I do not know anything, and they did not tell me anything." They said: "Indeed, whatever you wish will come to be. Take this wheat and sow it." So I sowed it and said: "Sprout," and it sprouted. Then I said: "Form ears," and it formed ears. Then I said: "Produce grains," and it produced grains. Then I said: "Dry," and it dried. Then I said: "Grind," and it ground. Then I said: "Bake," and it baked. When I saw that whatever I wished came to be, I was dismayed and regretted it. By Allah, O Mother of the Believers, I have never done anything and will never do it again.'" She asked the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ soon after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when they were still numerous, but they did not know what to say to her. All of them were cautious and feared to give her a ruling based on what they did not know, except that they said: "If your parents were alive, or one of them, they would suffice you."
