   إِنَّ الْمَرْءَ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ الْبُرْهَةَ مِنْ دَهْرِهِ، ثُمَّ تُعْرَضُ لَهُ الْجَادَّةُ مِنْ جَوَادِّ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ، فَيَعْمَلُ بِهَا حَتَّى يَمُوتَ عَلَيْهَا وَذَلِكَ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ، وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ الْبُرْهَةَ مِنْ دَهْرِهِ، ثُمَّ تُعْرَضُ لَهُ الْجَادَّةُ مِنْ جَوَادِّ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، فَيَعْمَلُ بِهَا حَتَّى يَمُوتَ عَلَيْهَا وَذَلِكَ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ

   ✧ A person may do the deeds of the people of the Fire for a period of his life, then the path of the people of Paradise is presented to him, and he acts upon it until he dies upon it, and that is what was decreed for him. And a man may do the deeds of the people of Paradise for a period of his life, then the path of the people of the Fire is presented to him, and he acts upon it until he dies upon it, and that is what was decreed for him.

   " كُنْتُ فِي غَنَمٍ لِآلِ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ، فَقَالَ: يَا غُلَامُ، عِنْدَكَ لَبَنٌ ؟، فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، وَلَكِنِّي مُؤْتَمَنٌ، قَالَ: " فَهَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَاةٌ لَمْ يَنْزُ عَلَيْهَا الْفَحْلُ ؟، قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، بِشَاةٍ شَطُورٍ، قَالَ سَلَّامٌ: وَالشَّطُورُ الَّتِي لَيْسَ لَهَا ضَرْعٌ، فَمَسَحَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَكَانَ الضَّرْعِ، وَمَا لَهَا ضَرْعٌ، فَإِذَا الضَّرْعُ حَافِلٌ مَمْلُوءٌ لَبَنًا، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِصَخْرَةٍ مَنْقُورَةٍ فَحَلَبَ ثُمَّ سَقَى أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَسَقَانِي، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِلضَّرْعِ أَقْلِصْ فَرَجَعَ كَمَا كَانَ، فَأَنَا رَأَيْتُ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَلِّمْنِي، فَمَسَحَ رَأْسِي، وَقَالَ: بَارَكَ اللهُ فِيكَ، فَإِنَّكَ غُلَامٌ مُعَلَّمٌ فَأَسْلَمْتُ، وَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَبَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ عَلَى حِرَاءٍ إِذْ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ وَالْمُرْسَلاتِ عُرْفًا، فَأَخَذْتُهَا، وَإِنَّهَا رَطْبَةٌ مِنْ فِيهِ، فَأَخَذْتُ مِنْ فِي رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ سَبْعِينَ سُورَةً وَأَخَذْتُ بَقِيَّةَ الْقُرْآنِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ

   ✧ "I was tending sheep belonging to the family of Abu Mu'ayt. The Prophet ﷺ came with Abu Bakr ؓ and said: 'O boy, do you have milk?' I said: 'Yes, but I am entrusted.' He said: 'Do you have a ewe that no male has mounted?' I said: 'Yes,' indicating a shatur ewe. Sallam said: 'A shatur is one that has no udder.' The Prophet ﷺ stroked the place of the udder, and it had no udder, but suddenly the udder was full and overflowing with milk. I brought the Prophet ﷺ a hollowed-out rock, and he milked it, then gave Abu Bakr to drink and gave me to drink. Then he said to the udder: 'Shrink,' and it returned as it was. So I saw this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me.' He stroked my head and said: 'May Allah bless you, for you are a taught boy.' So I embraced Islam and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. While we were with him on Hira', Surat al-Mursalat 'Urfan was revealed to him, and I took it while it was still fresh from his mouth. I took seventy surahs from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I took the rest of the Qur'an from his Companions."

   كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا بَعَثَ سَرِيَّةً قَالَ: اغْزُوا بِاسْمِ اللهِ، وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، قَاتِلُوا مَنْ كَفَرَ بِاللهِ، لَا تَغُلُّوا، وَلَا تَغْدِرُوا، وَلَا تُمَثِّلُوا، وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا وَلِيدًا وَلَا شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا

   ✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched a military expedition, he would say: 'Raid in the name of Allah and in the path of Allah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not steal from the spoils, do not act treacherously, do not mutilate, and do not kill a child or an old man.'

   رَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ ؓ تَوَضَّأَ فَتَمَضْمَضَ ثَلَاثًا، وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا، وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا، وَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَاحِدَةً، وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَوَضَّأُ

   ✧ I saw 'Uthman b. 'Affan ؓ perform wudu': he rinsed his mouth three times, sniffed water into his nose three times, washed his face three times, washed his hands three times each, wiped his head once, and washed his feet three times. Then he said: 'Thus I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing wudu.'

   تَقْتُلُ عَمَّارًا الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ

   ✧ The transgressing party will kill ʿAmmār.

   عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْبَاءَةِ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ

   ✧ Adhere to marriage, for whoever cannot afford it should fast, for it will be a shield for him.

   مَنْ عَادَ مَرِيضًا خَاضَ فِي الرَّحْمَةِ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَهُ، فَإِذَا قَعَدَ عِنْدَهُ غَمَرَتْهُ الرَّحْمَةُ، فَلَمَّا قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا قَالَ قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَذَا الْعَائِدُ الْمَرِيضَ، فَمَا لِلْمَرِيضِ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: إِذَا مَرِضَ الْعَبْدُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ خَرَجَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ كَيَوْمِ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ

   ✧ Whoever visits a sick person immerses himself in mercy until he reaches him, and when he sits with him, mercy envelops him. When the Prophet ﷺ said what he said, I said, 'O Messenger of God, this is for the visitor of the sick, what is for the sick person?' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'When a servant is ill for three days, he emerges from his sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him.'

    النَّادِمُ يَنْتَظِرُ التَّوْبَةَ وَالْمُعْجَبُ يَنْتَظِرُ الْمَقْتَ

    ✧ The remorseful person awaits repentance, and the self-admiring person awaits disdain.

    بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ، فَدَعَانِي، فَقَالَ: لَا أَقْبَلُ مِنْكَ حَتَّى تُبَايِعَ عَلَى النُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ، فَبَايَعْتُهُ

    ✧ I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ, then I turned to leave, and he called me and said, 'I will not accept from you until you pledge to give sincere counsel to every Muslim,' so I pledged allegiance to him.

    " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يُعَلِّمُنَا الِاسْتِخَارَةَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ يَقُولُ: إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَمْرًا فَلْيَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ، وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ؛ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلَا أَقْدِرُ، وَتَعْلَمُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ. اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ خِيرَةً لِي فِي دِينِي وَدُنْيَايَ وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فَقَدِّرْهُ لِي، وَإِنْ كَانَ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ خَيْرًا فَسَهِّلْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي الشَّرَّ حَيْثُ كَانَ، وَرَضِّنِي بِقَضَائِكَ

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ used to teach us istikhārah as he taught us a sūrah from the Qur'an, saying: 'When one of you intends a matter, let him say: O God, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, and I seek Your power through Your might, and I ask You of Your immense bounty; for You have power and I have none, and You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O God, if this matter is good for me in my religion, my worldly life, and my ultimate outcome, then decree it for me; and if something else is better, then facilitate good for me wherever it may be and avert evil from me wherever it may be, and make me content with Your decree.'

    صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ثَمَانَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَأَوْتَرَ، فَلَمَّا كَانَتِ الْقَابِلَةُ اجْتَمَعْنَا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَرَجَوْنَا أَنْ يَخْرُجَ، فَلَمْ نَزَلْ فِيهِ حَتَّى أَصْبَحْنَا، ثُمَّ دَخَلْنَا، فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اجْتَمَعْنَا الْبَارِحَةَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، وَرَجَوْنَا أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ بِنَا، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يُكْتَبَ عَلَيْكُمْ

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ led us in prayer during the month of Ramadan, eight rakʿahs, and then performed witr. The following night we gathered in the mosque hoping he would come out, and we remained there until morning. Then we entered upon him and said, 'O Messenger of God, we gathered last night in the mosque hoping that you would pray with us.' He said, 'I feared that it would be made obligatory upon you.'

    إِنَّ حَرَّ النَّارِ سَبْعُونَ جُزْءًا؛ تِسْعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ لِلْآمِرِ، وَجُزْءٌ لِلْقَاتِلِ وَحَسْبُهُ

    ✧ The heat of the Fire is seventy parts: sixty-nine for the one who commanded and one part for the killer, and that suffices him.

    كُنَّا نُسَلِّمُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي، فَكَانَ يَرُدُّ عَلَيْنَا قَبْلَ أَنْ نَخْرُجَ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ، فَلَمَّا رَجَعْنَا مِنْ أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ أَتَيْتُ [ أَتَيْنَا ] رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ السَّلَامَ، فَأَخَذَنِي مَا قَرُبَ وَمَا بَعُدَ، فَقُلْتُ: مَا لِي أَحَدَثَ فِيَّ حَدَثٌ أَوَ نَزَلَ فِيَّ شَيْءٌ ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا يَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، إِنَّ اللهَ يُحْدِثُ فِي أَمْرِهِ مَا يَشَاءُ، وَإِنَّهُ قَدْ أَحْدَثَ أَنْ لَا تَكَلَّمُوا فِي الصَّلَاةِ

    ✧ We used to greet the Prophet ﷺ while he was praying, and he would respond to us before we emigrated to Abyssinia. When we returned from Abyssinia, I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and greeted him, but he did not return my greeting. I was seized by distress over what is near and far, so I said, 'What is wrong with me? Has something happened to me or has something been revealed concerning me?' He said, 'No, O Ibn Masʿūd, God introduces in His command whatever He wills, and He has now introduced that you should not speak during prayer.'

    لَا يَأْتِي عَامٌ إِلَّا وَالَّذِي بَعْدَهُ شَرٌّ مِنْهُ، سَمِعْنَا ذَلِكَ مِنْ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ

    ✧ No year comes but the one after it is worse than it. We heard that from your Prophet ﷺ.

    إِذَا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَلَا صَلَاةَ إِلَّا الْمَكْتُوبَةُ

    ✧ When the prayer is established, there is no prayer except the prescribed one.

    قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَوْصِنِي فَقَالَ: اتَّقِ اللهَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْتَ، وَأَتْبِعِ السَّيِّئَةَ الْحَسَنَةَ تَمْحُهَا، وَخَالِقِ النَّاسَ بِخُلُقٍ حَسَنٍ

    ✧ I said: O Messenger of Allah, advise me. He said: Fear Allah wherever you are, and follow up a bad deed with a good deed that erases it, and treat people with good character.

    أَنَّهُ أَهَلَّ بِحَجٍّ وَعُمْرَةٍ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ فَقَالَ: هُدِيتَ لِسُنَّةِ نَبِيِّكَ ﷺ

    ✧ He pronounced the talbiyah for Hajj and Umrah together. He mentioned that to Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ, and he said: You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet ﷺ.

22. al-Mu'jam al-Saghir 533No grade recorded

    لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللهُ شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَنَزَلَتْ فَيَغْفِرُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ، فَسُرِّيَ ذَلِكَ عَنْهُمْ

    ✧ When it was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'And whether you disclose what is in your own selves or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it,' this weighed heavily on the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then it was revealed: 'He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills,' and that relieved them.

    أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَاعْتَرَفَتْ بِالزِّنَا، وَكَانَتْ حَامِلًا، فَأَخَّرَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى وَضَعَتْ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَهَا فَشُدَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا، ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِرَجْمِهَا، ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: أَتُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ وَرَجَمْتَهَا ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ تَابَ بِهَا سَبْعُونَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَقُبِلَ مِنْهُمْ، هَلْ وَجَدْتَ أَفْضَلَ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا ؟

    ✧ A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and confessed to adultery, and she was pregnant. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed her until she gave birth, then he ordered her and her garments were fastened tightly around her, then he ordered her to be stoned, then he prayed over her. A man said to him: You pray over her when she committed adultery and you stoned her? The Prophet ﷺ said: She has repented with such a repentance that if seventy of the people of Madinah were to repent with it, it would be accepted from them. Have you found anything better than her giving her own life?

    أَتَاكُمْ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ هُمْ أَرَقُّ أَفْئِدَةً، الْإِيمَانُ يَمَانٍ، وَالْحِكْمَةُ يَمَانِيَةٌ، وَالْفِقْهُ يَمَانٍ

    ✧ The people of Yemen have come to you. They are most tender of hearts. Faith is Yemeni, wisdom is Yemeni, and understanding is Yemeni.

    قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ: أَشَهِدْتَ بَيْعَةَ الرِّضْوَانِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: فَمَا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَ: " قَمِيصٌ مِنْ قُطْنٍ، وَجُبَّةٌ مَحْشُوَّةٌ، وَرِدَاءٌ، وَسَيْفٌ، وَرَأَيْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ مُقَرِّنٍ الْمُزَنِيَّ قَائِمًا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ قَدْ رَفَعَ أَغْصَانَ الشَّجَرَةِ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ وَالنَّاسُ يُبَايِعُونَهُ

    ✧ I said to Abdullah b. Umar ؓ: Did you witness the Pledge of Ridwan with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said: Yes. I said: What was he wearing? He said: "A cotton shirt, a stuffed jubbah, a cloak, and a sword. And I saw al-Numan b. Muqarrin al-Muzani standing at his head, holding up the branches of the tree from his head while the people were giving him the pledge."

    ذَكَرَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ؓ سَبْعِينَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ كَانَ [ كَانُوا ] إِذَا جَنَّهُمُ اللَّيْلُ آوَوْا إِلَى مَعْلَمٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ، فَيَبِيتُونَ يَدْرُسُونَ الْقُرْآنَ، فَإِذَا أَصْبَحُوا فَمَنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ قُوَّةٌ أَصَابَ مِنَ الْحَطَبِ، وَاسْتَعْذَبَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ، وَمَنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ سَعَةٌ أَصَابُوا الشَّاةَ، فَأَصْلَحُوهَا، فَكَانَتْ تُصْبِحُ مُعَلَّقَةً بِحُجَرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَلَمَّا أُصِيبَ خُبَيْبٌ بَعَثَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَكَانَ فِيهِمْ خَالِي حَرَامُ بْنُ مِلْحَانَ، فَأَتَوْا عَلَى حَيٍّ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ، فَقَالَ حَرَامٌ لِأَمِيرِهِمْ: أَلَا أُخْبِرُ هَؤُلَاءِ أَنَّا لَسْنَا إِيَّاهُمْ نُرِيدُ فَيُخَلُّوا وُجُوهَنَا ؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فَأَتَاهُمْ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ ذَلِكَ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ بِرُمْحٍ، فَأَنْفَذَهُ بِهِ، فَلَمَّا وَجَدَ حَرَامٌ مَسَّ الرُّمْحِ [ مَسَحَ ] فِي جَوْفِهِ قَالَ: فُزْتُ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ، فَانْطَوَوْا عَلَيْهِمْ، فَمَا بَقِيَ مِنْهُمْ مُخْبِرٌ، فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَدَ عَلَى سَرِيَّةٍ وَجْدَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ. قَالَ أَنَسٌ: فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كُلَّمَا صَلَّى الْغَدَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ يَدْعُو عَلَيْهِمْ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أَتَى أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَقُولُ: هَلْ لَكَ فِي قَاتِلِ حَرَامٍ ؟ فَقَالَ: مَا بَالُهُ ؟ فَعَلَ اللهُ بِهِ وَفَعَلَ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ: لَا تَفْعَلْ فَقَدْ أَسْلَمَ

    ✧ Anas b. Malik ؓ mentioned seventy men from the Ansar. When night fell upon them, they would return to a signpost in Madinah and spend the night studying the Quran. When morning came, whoever had strength would gather firewood and fetch fresh water, and whoever had means would get a sheep and prepare it, so that by morning it would be hanging at the rooms of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When Khubayb was killed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent them out, and among them was my maternal uncle Haram b. Milhan. They came upon a clan of Banu Sulaym. Haram said to their leader: Shall I tell these people that we are not after them, so they will let us pass? They said: Yes. So he went to them and told them that. A man from among them met him with a spear and ran it through him. When Haram felt the touch of the spear in his body, he said: I have won, by the Lord of the Kabah. They closed in on them, and none of them remained to report. I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ grieve for a raiding party as he grieved for them. Anas said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ every time he prayed the morning prayer raise his hands supplicating against them. Then later Abu Talhah came saying: Do you want the killer of Haram? The Prophet said: What is the matter with him? May Allah do such and such to him. Abu Talhah said: Do not say that, for he has embraced Islam.

    ✧ He entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was sleeping. The Prophet ﷺ woke up and hugged Halah to his chest, saying: Halah, Halah, Halah.

    أَغَارَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى أَهْلِ خَيْبَرَ وَهُمْ غَارُّونَ، فَقَالُوا [ فَقَالَ ]: مُحَمَّدٌ وَالْخَمِيسُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، خَرِبَتْ خَيْبَرُ، إِنَّا إِذَا نَزَلْنَا بِسَاحَةِ قَوْمٍ فَسَاءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raided the people of Khaybar while they were unaware. They said: Muhammad and the army. The Prophet ﷺ said: Allah is greatest. Khaybar is destroyed. When we descend upon the courtyard of a people, evil is the morning of those warned.

    ✧ I saw Ibrahim the Friend ﷺ on the night I was taken on the Night Journey. He said: O Muhammad, convey my greetings of peace to your community, and tell them that Paradise is good of soil, sweet of water, and that it is a plain, and its plants are the saying: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is greatest, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah.

    ✧ The rewards of my community were shown to me, even the speck of dust that a man removes from the mosque, and the sins of my community were shown to me, and I did not see a sin greater than that of a man who was given an āyah or a sūrah and then forgot it.

    ✧ It was reported from ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd ؓ that he was asked about a daughter, a son’s daughter, and a full sister (from the same father and mother). He said: “I will judge among them with the judgment of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ: the daughter receives half, the son’s daughter receives one-sixth, and what remains goes to the full sister.”

    ✧ Three things: whoever does them has tasted the flavor of faith: whoever worships Allah (Mighty and Majestic) alone, that there is no god but He; and gives the zakah of his wealth willingly each year, and does not give the old, the mangy, or the sick, but from the middle of your wealth—for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) does not ask you for its best and does not command you to give its worst—and purifies his soul. A man said: 'What is purification of the soul?' He said: 'To know that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is with him wherever he is.'

    ✧ The most merciful of my ummah to my ummah is Abu Bakr, and the most gentle of my ummah to my ummah is 'Umar b. al-Khattab, and the most honest in modesty of my ummah is 'Uthman, and the best judge of my ummah is 'Ali b. Abi Talib, and the most knowledgeable of it about the lawful and the unlawful is Mu'adh b. Jabal—he will come on the Day of Resurrection ahead of the scholars by a bow-shot—and the best reciter of my ummah is Ubayy b. Ka'b, and the best at the obligatory shares is Zayd b. Thabit, and 'Uwaymir has been given worship—meaning Abu al-Darda' ؓ all together.

    اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِنَ الَّذِينَ جَاوَزُوا دَارَ الظَّالِمِينَ، وَاسْتَوْحَشُوا مِنْ مُؤَانَسَةِ الْجَاهِلِينَ، وَشَابُوا ثَمَرَةَ الْعَمَلِ بِنُورِ الْإِخْلَاصِ، وَاسْتَقَوْا مِنْ عَيْنِ الْحِكْمَةِ، وَرَكِبُوا سَفِينَةَ الْفِطْنَةِ، وَأَقْلَعُوا بِرَوْحِ الْيَقِينِ، وَلَجَجُوا فِي بَحْرِ النَّجَاةِ، وَأَرْسَوْا بِشَطِّ الْإِخْلَاصِ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِنَ الَّذِينَ سَرَحَتْ أَرْوَاحُهُمْ فِي الْعُلَا وَجَنُوا مِنْ ثِمَارِ رِيَاضِ التَّنْسِيمِ، وَخَاضُوا لُجَّةَ السُّرُورِ، وَشَرِبُوا بِكَأْسِ الْعَيْشِ، وَاسْتَظَلُّوا تَحْتَ [ فِي ] الْكَرَامَةِ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِنَ الَّذِينَ فَتَحُوا بَابَ الصَّبْرِ، وَأَرْدَمُوا خَنَادِقَ الْجَزَعِ، وَجَازُوا شَدَائِدَ الْعِقَابِ، وَعَبَرُوا جِسْرَ الْهَوَاءِ، فَإِنَّهُ جَلَّ اسْمُهُ يَقُولُ: وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَى فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ أَشَارَتْ إِلَيْهِمْ أَعْلَامُ الْهِدَايَةِ، وَوَضَحَتْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقُ النَّجَاةِ، وَسَلَكُوا سَبِيلَ إِخْلَاصِ الْيَقِينِ

    ✧ O Allah, make us among those who have crossed the abode of the wrongdoers, and have felt estranged from the company of the ignorant, and have mixed the fruit of deeds with the light of sincerity, and have drawn water from the spring of wisdom, and have boarded the ship of discernment, and have sailed with the breeze of certainty, and have plunged into the sea of salvation, and have anchored at the shore of sincerity. O Allah, make us among those whose souls have roamed in the heights and have picked from the fruits of the gardens of gentle breeze, and have waded into the deep of joy, and have drunk from the cup of life, and have sought shade under [in] honor. O Allah, make us among those who have opened the gate of patience, and have blocked the trenches of anxiety, and have passed through the severe punishments, and have crossed the bridge of desire, for He—glorified be His name—says: 'But as for him who feared the standing before his Lord and restrained the soul from desire, then Paradise is the refuge.' O Allah, make us among those to whom the banners of guidance have pointed, and for whom the path of salvation has become clear, and who have traveled the way of pure certainty.

    قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ: أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ دُعَاءً تَدْعُو بِهِ، لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ مِثْلُ جَبَلٍ دَيْنًا لَأَدَّى اللهُ عَنْكَ، قُلْ يَا مُعَاذُ: اللَّهُمَّ مَالِكَ الْمُلْكِ، تُؤْتِي الْمُلْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ، وَتَنْزِعُ الْمُلْكَ مِمَّنْ تَشَاءُ، وَتُعِزُّ مَنْ تَشَاءُ، وَتُذِلُّ مَنْ تَشَاءُ، بِيَدِكَ الْخَيْرُ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، رَحْمَانَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، تُعْطِيهُمَا مَنْ تَشَاءُ، وَتَمْنَعُ مِنْهُمَا مَنْ تَشَاءُ، ارْحَمْنِي رَحْمَةً تُغْنِينِي بِهَا عَنْ رَحْمَةِ مَنْ سِوَاكَ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Mu'adh b. Jabal: 'Shall I teach you a supplication to invoke? If you had a debt like a mountain, Allah would settle it for you. Say, O Mu'adh: O Allah, Owner of the kingdom, You give the kingdom to whom You will and take the kingdom from whom You will, and You honor whom You will and humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good; You have power over all things. Most Merciful of this world and the Hereafter, You give them to whom You will and withhold them from whom You will. Have mercy on me with a mercy that suffices me from the mercy of anyone other than You.'

    شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَتَاهُ نَاسٌ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ، فَجَعَلُوا يَسْأَلُونَهُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَلْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ حَرَجٍ فِي كَذَا ؟ هَلْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ حَرَجٍ فِي كَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَضَعَ اللهُ الْحَرَجَ إِلَّا امْرَأً اقْتَرَضَ امْرَأً مُسْلِمًا ظُلْمًا فَذَاكَ الَّذِي حَرِجَ وَهَلَكَ، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَنَتَدَاوَى مِنْ كَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: تَدَاوَوْا عِبَادَ اللهِ؛ فَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَمْ يُنْزِلْ دَاءً إِلَّا أَنْزَلَ لَهُ شِفَاءً غَيْرَ دَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ: الْهَرَمِ "، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَمَا خَيْرُ مَا أُعْطِيَ الْإِنْسَانُ ؟ فَقَالَ: خُلُقٌ حَسَنٌ

    ✧ I witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when some Bedouins came to him and began asking him on his right and left: 'O Messenger of Allah, is there any sin on us in such and such? Is there any sin on us in such and such?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah has removed sin except for a man who borrows from a Muslim man wrongfully—that is the one who sins and is destroyed.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we seek treatment for such and such?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Seek treatment, O servants of Allah, for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has not sent down any disease but He has sent down for it a cure, except for one disease: old age.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the best thing given to a person?' He said: 'Good character.'

    ✧ One day they were with the Messenger of God ﷺ in the house of 'A'isha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and she ؓ. He said: While we were with the Messenger of God ﷺ, a platter of bread and meat was brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ from the house of Umm Salama ؓ, and it was placed before the Prophet ﷺ. He said, 'Put your hands.' The Prophet ﷺ put his hand, and we put our hands and ate. Meanwhile 'A'isha was preparing a hastily cooked food. The platter that had been brought was passed around. When she finished her food, she brought it and placed it down, and she took up the platter of Umm Salama and broke it. She said and said. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Eat in the name of God. Your mother has become jealous.' Then he gave her platter to Umm Salama and said: 'Food for food, and vessel for vessel.'

    ✧ Abd al-Rahman b. Awf complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about Khalid b. al-Walid. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'O Khalid, do not harm a man of the people of Badr. Even if you spent the like of Uhud in gold, you would not attain his action.' Khalid said, 'They fall upon me and I reply to them.' The Prophet said, 'Do not harm Khalid, for he is a sword among the swords of Allah which Allah has poured upon the disbelievers.'

    نَشَرَ اللهُ عَبْدَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ أَكْثَرَ لَهُمَا مِنَ الْمَالِ وَالْوَلَدِ، فَقَالَ لِأَحَدِهِمَا: أَيْ فُلَانُ، فَقَالَ: لَبَّيْكَ رَبِّ وَسَعْدَيْكَ، قَالَ: أَلَمْ أُكْثِرْ لَكَ مِنَ الْمَالِ وَالْوَلَدِ ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى أَيْ رَبِّ، قَالَ: فَكَيْفَ صَنَعْتَ فِيمَا آتَيْتُكَ ؟ قَالَ: تَرَكْتُهُ لِوَلَدِي مَخَافَةَ الْعَيْلَةِ عَلَيْهِمْ. قَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَوْ تَعْلَمُ الْعِلْمَ لَضَحِكْتَ قَلِيلًا وَلَبَكَيْتَ كَثِيرًا، أَمَا إِنَّ الَّذِي تَخَوَّفْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَدْ أَنْزَلْتُهُ بِهِمْ، وَيَقُولُ لِلْآخَرِ: أَيْ فُلَانُ ابْنَ فُلَانٍ، فَيَقُولُ: لَبَّيْكَ أَيْ رَبِّ وَسَعْدَيْكَ، قَالَ: أَلَمْ أُكْثِرْ لَكَ مِنَ الْمَالِ وَالْوَلَدِ ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى أَيْ رَبِّ، قَالَ: فَكَيْفَ صَنَعْتَ فِيمَا آتَيْتُكَ ؟ قَالَ: أَنْفَقْتُهُ فِي طَاعَتِكَ، وَوَثَّقْتُ لِوَلَدِي مِنْ بَعْدِي بِحُسْنِ عَدْلِكَ، فَقَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَوْ تَعْلَمُ الْعِلْمَ لَضَحِكْتَ كَثِيرًا وَلَبَكَيْتَ قَلِيلًا، أَمَا إِنَّ الَّذِي وَثَّقْتَ لَهُمْ قَدْ أَنْزَلْتُهُ بِهِمْ

    ✧ Allah spread out two servants of His servants, increasing for them wealth and children. He said to one of them, “O so-and-so.” He replied, “At Your service, my Lord, and gladly.” He said, “Did I not increase wealth and children for you?” He said, “Yes, my Lord.” He said, “Then how did you deal with what I gave you?” He said, “I left it for my children, fearing poverty for them.” He said, “Indeed, if you knew true knowledge, you would have laughed little and wept much. Indeed, what you feared for them I have already brought down upon them.” And He says to the other, “O so-and-so, son of so-and-so.” He replies, “At Your service, my Lord, and gladly.” He says, “Did I not increase wealth and children for you?” He says, “Yes, my Lord.” He says, “Then how did you deal with what I gave you?” He says, “I spent it in obedience to You, and I entrusted my children after me to Your beautiful justice.” He says, “Indeed, if you knew true knowledge, you would have laughed much and wept little. Indeed, what you entrusted for them I have already brought down upon them.”

    كَانَتِ الْأَوْسُ وَالْخَزْرَجُ حَيَّيْنِ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَكَانَتْ بَيْنَهُمَا عَدَاوَةٌ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَهَبَ ذَلِكَ، فَأَلَّفَ اللهُ بَيْنَهُمْ، فَبَيْنَمَا هُمْ قُعُودٌ فِي مَجْلِسٍ لَهُمْ إِذْ تَمَثَّلَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَوْسِ بِبَيْتِ شِعْرٍ فِيهِ هِجَاءٌ لِلْخَزْرَجِ وَتَمَثَّلَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْخَزْرَجِ بِبَيْتِ شِعْرٍ فِيهِ هِجَاءٌ لِلْأَوْسِ، فَلَمْ يَزَالُوا هَذَا يَتَمَثَّلُ بِبَيْتٍ وَهَذَا يَتَمَثَّلُ بِبَيْتٍ حَتَّى وَثَبَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ، وَأَخَذُوا أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ، وَانْطَلَقُوا لِلْقِتَالِ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، وَأُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الْوَحْيُ، فَجَاءَ مُسْرِعًا قَدْ حَسَرَ سَاقَيْهِ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُمْ نَادَاهُمْ: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنَ الْآيَاتِ، فَوَحَّشُوا بِأَسْلِحَتِهِمْ، فَرَمَوْا بِهَا، وَاعْتَنَقَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا يَبْكُونَ

    ✧ The Aws and the Khazraj were two tribes of the Ansar, and between them in the pre-Islamic era there was enmity. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to them, that ceased, and Allah brought harmony between them. While they were sitting in a gathering of theirs, a man from the Aws recited a line of poetry containing satire against the Khazraj, and a man from the Khazraj recited a line of poetry containing satire against the Aws. They kept on, this one reciting a line and that one reciting a line, until some of them jumped at others and took up their weapons and set out to fight. That reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and revelation had come down to him. He came hurriedly, having uncovered his shins. When he saw them, he called to them: “O you who believe, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims” until he finished the verses. They threw away their weapons and embraced one another, weeping.

    حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَجَّةً، فَصَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ بِمِنًى، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ إِذَا رَجُلَانِ خَلْفَ النَّاسِ لَمْ يُصَلِّيَا مَعَ النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ: عَلَيَّ بِالرَّجُلَيْنِ، فَجِيءَ بِهِمَا تُرْعَدُ فَرَائِصُهُمَا، فَقَالَ: أَمَا صَلَّيْتُمَا مَعَنَا ؟ فَقَالَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا كُنَّا صَلَّيْنَا فِي رِحَالِنَا وَظَنَنَّا أَنْ لَا نُدْرِكَ الصَّلَاةَ، قَالَ: فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا، إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمَا فِي رِحَالِكُمَا ثُمَّ أَدْرَكْتُمَا الصَّلَاةَ فَصَلِّيَا تَكُونُ لَكُمَا نَافِلَةً، فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا: اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ، فَازْدَحَمَ النَّاسُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَأَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ كَأَشَبِّ الرِّجَالِ وَأَقْوَاهُمْ، فَزَاحَمْتُ النَّاسَ حَتَّى أَخَذْتُ بِيَدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَضَعْتُهَا عَلَى صَدْرِي، فَلَمْ أَرَ شَيْئًا كَانَ أَبْرَدَ وَلَا أَطْيَبَ مِنْ يَدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

    ✧ I performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ once, and I prayed the dawn prayer with him at Mina. When he finished his prayer, there were two men behind the people who had not prayed with the people. He said, “Bring me the two men.” They were brought trembling in their quivering muscles. He said, “Did you not pray with us?” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, we had prayed in our camps and thought we would not catch the prayer.” He said, “Do not do that. If you pray in your camps and then catch the prayer, pray it, and it will be a supererogatory prayer for you.” One of them said, “Ask forgiveness for me, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “O Allah, forgive him.” Then the people crowded around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I was then among the most vigorous and strongest of men. I pushed through the people until I took hold of the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and placed it on my chest. I never felt anything colder or more pleasant than the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

     ✧ I gave glad tidings to Bilal, and he said to me: O 'Abdullah, with what do you give me glad tidings? I said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Bilal will come on the Day of Resurrection upon a riding camel whose saddle is of gold and whose reins are of pearls and rubies, with him a banner, followed by the mu'adhdhins, and he will admit them into Paradise, such that he will even admit one who called the adhan for forty mornings, seeking thereby the Face of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.

     دَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ أَيُّ عُرَى الْإِيمَانِ أَوْثَقُ ؟ قُلْتُ: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ: أَوْثَقُ عُرَى الْإِسْلَامِ: الْوَلَايَةُ فِي اللهِ، وَالْحُبُّ فِي اللهِ، وَالْبُغْضُ فِي اللهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: أَتَدْرِي أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قُلْتُ: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ، قَالَ: فَإِنَّ أَفْضَلَ النَّاسِ أَفْضَلُهُمْ عَمَلًا إِذَا فَقِهُوا فِي دِينِهِمْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: أَتَدْرِي أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَعْلَمُ ؟ قُلْتُ: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ، قَالَ: إِنَّ أَعْلَمَ النَّاسِ أَبْصَرُهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ إِذَا اخْتَلَفَ النَّاسُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مُقَصِّرًا فِي عَمَلِهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ يَزْحَفُ عَلَى اسْتِهِ زَحْفًا، وَاخْتَلَفَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ عَلَى اثْنَتَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ فِرْقَةً نَجَا مِنْهَا ثَلَاثٌ وَهَلَكَ سَائِرُهُنَّ، فِرْقَةٌ أَزَتِ الْمُلُوكَ وَقَاتَلُوهُمْ عَلَى دِينِهِمْ وَدِينِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، فَأَخَذُوهُمْ فَقَتَلُوهُمْ وَنَشَرُوهُمْ [ نُشِرُوا ] بِالْمَنَاشِيرِ، وَفِرْقَةٌ لَمْ تَكُنْ لَهُمْ طَاقَةٌ بِمُوَازَةِ الْمُلُوكِ، وَلَا أَنْ يُقِيمُوا بَيْنَ ظَهْرَانَيْهِمْ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى دِينِ اللهِ وَدِينِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ، فَسَاحُوا فِي الْبِلَادِ وَتَرَهَّبُوا، وَهُمُ الَّذِينَ قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً ابْتَدَعُوهَا مَا كَتَبْنَاهَا عَلَيْهِمْ إِلا ابْتِغَاءَ رِضْوَانِ اللهِ الْآيَةَ، قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: فَمَنْ آمَنَ بِي وَاتَّبَعَنِي وَصَدَّقَنِي فَقَدْ رَعَاهَا حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهَا، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَتَّبِعْنِي فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْهَالِكُونَ

     ✧ I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: "O Ibn Mas'ud, which of the bonds of faith is most firm?" I said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "The firmest bond of Islam is: allegiance for the sake of Allah, love for the sake of Allah, and hatred for the sake of Allah." Then he said: "O Ibn Mas'ud." I said: "At your service, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Do you know which of the people is most virtuous?" I said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "The most virtuous of people are the best of them in deeds when they have understanding in their religion." Then he said: "O Ibn Mas'ud." I said: "At your service, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Do you know which of the people is most knowledgeable?" I said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "The most knowledgeable of people are those most discerning of the truth when people differ, even if he is deficient in his deeds, even if he crawls on his rear. Those before you split into seventy-two sects; three of them were saved, and the rest perished. One sect confronted the kings and fought them for their religion and the religion of 'Isa b. Maryam ﷺ ; they were seized, killed, and sawn apart with saws. Another sect did not have the strength to oppose the kings nor to stay among them calling them to the religion of Allah and the religion of 'Isa b. Maryam, so they wandered through the lands and became monks. They are the ones about whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: 'And monasticism they invented; We did not prescribe it for them, except seeking the pleasure of Allah' (57:27)." The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever believes in me, follows me, and affirms me has observed it as it should be observed. And whoever does not follow me, those are the ones who perish."

     يَا كَعْبُ، أَعَاذَكَ اللهُ مِنْ أُمَرَاءَ يَكُونُونَ بَعْدِي، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَمَا ذَاكَ ؟ قَالَ: مَنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَصَدَّقَهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ وَأَعَانَهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي وَلَسْتُ مِنْهُ، وَلَنْ يَرِدَ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَدْخُلْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَمْ يُصَدِّقْهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ، وَلَمْ يُعِنْهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ فَذَاكَ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ، وَسَيَرِدُ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ، لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ لَحْمٌ نَبَتَ مِنْ سُحْتٍ، وَكُلُّ لَحْمٍ نَبَتَ مِنْ سُحْتٍ فَالنَّارُ أَوْلَى بِهِ، النَّاسُ غَادِيَانِ فَبَائِعٌ نَفْسَهُ فَمُوبِقُهَا، وَفَادٍ نَفْسَهُ فَمُعْتِقُهَا، وَالصَّلَاةُ بُرْهَانٌ، وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ النَّارَ الْمَاءُ

     ✧ O Ka'b, may Allah protect you from rulers who will come after me. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is that?" He said: "Whoever enters upon them, believes their lies, and helps them in their wrongdoing is not of me and I am not of him, and he will never come to me at the Pond. Whoever does not enter upon them, does not believe their lies, and does not help them in their wrongdoing, he is of me and I am of him, and he will come to me at the Pond. No flesh that grows from unlawful sustenance will enter Paradise, and every flesh that grows from unlawful sustenance, the Fire is more fitting for it. People go out in the morning in two ways: one sells himself and destroys it, and one ransoms himself and sets it free. Prayer is a proof, fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire."

     ✧ Rabi'ah came to the Prophet ﷺ asking his permission to depart with the first group of travelers. Jibril ﷺ came to him and said: "O Muhammad, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sends you greetings of peace and says to you: Tell Rabi'ah not to depart with the first group, for I will surely reduce the number of a beloved one."

He said: "Say: O Allah, forgive us and him, have mercy on him, and grant me a good successor after him." She said: "So Allah granted me Muhammad ﷺ as a successor after him."

     كُلُّ أُمَّتِي مُعَافًى إِلَّا الْمُجَاهِرِينَ، قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَمَنِ الْمُجَاهِرُونَ ؟ قَالَ: الَّذِي يَعْمَلُ الْعَمَلَ بِاللَّيْلِ فَيَسْتُرُهُ رَبُّهُ، ثُمَّ يُصْبِحُ فَيَقُولُ: يَا فُلَانُ عَمِلْتُ الْبَارِحَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَيَكْشِفُ سِتْرَ اللهِ عَنْهُ

     ✧ All of my community is pardoned except those who commit sins openly. It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, who are those who commit sins openly?" He said: "A man who does a deed at night and his Lord conceals it, then in the morning he says: 'O so-and-so, last night I did such and such,' thus uncovering Allah's covering over him."

     خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى أَرْضٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ يُقَالُ لَهَا بَطْحَانُ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَنَسُ، اسْكُبْ لِي وَضُوءًا، فَسَكَبْتُ لَهُ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَاجَتَهُ أَقْبَلَ إِلَى الْإِنَاءِ، وَقَدْ أَتَى هِرٌّ فَوَلَغَ فِي الْإِنَاءِ، فَوَقَفَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقْفَةً حَتَّى شَرِبَ الْهِرُّ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ، فَذَكَرْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَمْرَ الْهِرِّ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَنَسُ، إِنَّ الْهِرَّ مِنْ مَتَاعِ الْبَيْتِ، لَنْ يُقْذِرَ شَيْئًا، وَلَنْ يُنْجِسَهُ

     ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to a piece of land in Madinah called Bathan. He said: "O Anas, pour water for me for ablution." I poured water for him. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had relieved himself, he came to the vessel, and a cat had come and lapped from it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ paused for it until the cat had finished drinking, then he performed ablution. I mentioned the matter of the cat to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "O Anas, the cat is part of the household goods; it will never make anything dirty or impure."

     مَنْ أَتَاهُ اللهُ وَجْهًا حَسَنًا وَاسْمًا حَسَنًا وَجَعَلَهُ فِي مَوْضِعٍ غَيْرِ شَائِنٍ فَهُوَ مِنْ صَفْوَةِ اللهِ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ ". وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: قَالَ الشَّاعِرُ: أَيْنَ شَرْطُ النَّبِيِّ إِذْ قَالَ يَوْمًا فَابْتَغُوا الْخَيْرَ فِي حِسَانِ الْوُجُوهِ

     ✧ Whoever Allah has given a handsome face, a good name, and placed him in a position that is not shameful, he is among the chosen ones of Allah from His creation." And Ibn 'Abbas said: "The poet said: 'Where is the Prophet's condition when he once said: Seek good in those with beautiful faces.'"

     ✧ When a man enters Paradise, he will ask about his parents, his wife, and his children. It will be said to him: They have not reached your rank and your deeds. He will say: O Lord, I have worked for myself and for them. Then he will be commanded to join them. Ibn 'Abbas recited: 'And those who believed and their descendants followed them in faith.'

     دَخَلْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ طَعَامٌ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ: ادْنُوا، فَكُلُوا مِنْ هَذَا الطَّعَامِ، فَقُلْنَا: إِنَّا صِيَامٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: هَلْ صُمْتُمْ أَمْسِ ؟ قُلْنَا: لَا، قَالَ: فَهَلْ تُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تَصُومُوا غَدًا ؟، فَقُلْنَا: لَا، قَالَ: فَادْنُوا، فَكُلُوا مِنْ هَذَا الطَّعَامِ؛ فَإِنَّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لَا يُصَامُ وَحْدَهُ

     ✧ We entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on Friday, and before him was food from which he was eating. He said: Come closer and eat from this food. We said: We are fasting, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Did you fast yesterday? We said: No. He said: Do you intend to fast tomorrow? We said: No. He said: Come closer and eat from this food, for Friday is not to be fasted alone.

     إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ أَمَرَ اللهُ مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي: أَلَا إِنِّي جَعَلْتُ نَسَبًا وَجَعَلْتُمْ نَسَبًا، فَجَعَلْتُ أَكْرَمَكُمْ أَتْقَاكُمْ فَأَبَيْتُمْ إِلَّا أَنْ تَقُولُوا: فُلَانُ ابْنُ فُلَانٍ خَيْرٌ مِنْ فُلَانِ ابْنِ فُلَانٍ، فَأَنَا الْيَوْمَ أَرْفَعُ نَسَبِي، وَأَضَعُ نَسَبَكُمْ أَيْنَ الْمُتَّقُونَ ؟

     ✧ When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will command a caller to announce: Indeed, I have established a lineage and you have established a lineage. I have made the noblest among you the most righteous, but you insisted on saying: So-and-so son of so-and-so is better than so-and-so son of so-and-so. Today I raise My lineage and lower your lineage. Where are the righteous?

     صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةً جَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ إِلَيْنَا فَقَالَ: أَلَا أَرَاكُمْ تَقْرَؤُونَ مَعَ إِمَامِكُمْ ؟ قُلْنَا: أَجَلْ، يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَقُولُ مَا لِي أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ، لَا تَفْعَلُوا إِذَا جَهَرَ الْإِمَامُ بِالْقُرْآنِ فَلَا يُقْرَأُ إِلَّا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ

     ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in a prayer in which he recited aloud, then turned to us and said: Do I see you reciting with your imam? We said: Yes, O Prophet of Allah. He said: Indeed, I say: Why am I disputed in the Qur'an? Do not do that. When the imam recites aloud, do not recite except the Opening of the Book (Umm al-Qur'an), for there is no prayer for one who does not recite the Opening of the Book.

     كَانَ لِيَهُودِيٍّ عَلَيَّ أَرْبَعَةُ دَرَاهِمَ فَلَزِمَنِي، وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُرِيدُ الْخُرُوجَ إِلَى خَيْبَرَ، فَاسْتَنْظَرْتُهُ إِلَى أَنْ أَقْدَمَ، فَقُلْتُ: لَعَلَّنَا أَنْ نَغْنَمَ شَيْئًا، فَجَاءَ بِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: أَعْطِهِ حَقَّهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّكَ تُرِيدُ الْخُرُوجَ إِلَى خَيْبَرَ، وَلَعَلَّ اللهَ أَنْ يَرْزُقَنَا بِهَا غَنَائِمَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَعْطِهِ حَقَّهُ، وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا قَالَ الشَّيْءَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ [ مِرَارًا ] لَمْ يُرَاجَعْ، وَعَلَيَّ إِزَارِي [ إِزَارٌ ]، وَعَلَى رَأْسِي عِصَابَةٌ، فَلَمَّا خَرَجْتُ قُلْتُ: اشْتَرِ مِنِّي هَذَا الْإِزَارَ، فَاشْتَرَاهُ بِالدَّرَاهِمِ الَّتِي لَهُ عَلَيَّ، فَاتَّزَرْتُ بِالْعِصَابَةِ الَّتِي عَلَى رَأْسِي، فَمَرَّتِ امْرَأَةٌ عَلَيْهَا شَمْلَةٌ فَأَلْبَسَتْنِي إِيَّاهَا

     ✧ A Jew had a debt of four dirhams owed by me, and he pressed me for it, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was about to set out for Khaybar. I asked him to wait until I returned, saying, 'Perhaps we will gain some spoils.' He brought me before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Give him his due,' twice. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you are about to set out for Khaybar, and perhaps Allah will grant us spoils there.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Give him his due.' The Prophet ﷺ, when he said something three times, would not be argued with. I had a waist wrapper on me, and on my head was a turban. When I went out, I said, 'Buy this waist wrapper from me,' and he bought it for the dirhams that he was owed from me. I then wrapped myself with the turban that was on my head. A woman passed by with a cloak, and she clothed me with it.

     أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا ارْتَحَلَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَزِيغَ الشَّمْسُ أَخَّرَ الظُّهْرَ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَهَا مَعَ الْعَصْرِ، وَإِذَا ارْتَحَلَ بَعْدَ زَيْغِ الشَّمْسِ عَجَّلَ الْعَصْرَ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَهُمَا جَمِيعًا، وَإِذَا ارْتَحَلَ قَبْلَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ أَخَّرَ الْمَغْرِبَ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَهُمَا جَمِيعًا، وَإِذَا ارْتَحَلَ بَعْدَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ صَلَّاهَا مَعَ الْمَغْرِبِ

     ✧ The Prophet ﷺ, when he set out before the sun declined, would delay Zuhr until he prayed it with Asr; when he set out after the sun declined, he would bring Asr forward until he prayed them together. When he set out before sunset, he would delay Maghrib until he prayed them together; when he set out after sunset, he would pray it with Maghrib.

     ✧ A man may utter a word pleasing to Allah without giving it much thought, and because of it he will be recorded among the people of Allah's pleasure until the Day of Resurrection; and a man may utter a word incurring Allah's wrath without giving it much thought, and because of it he will be recorded among the people of Allah's wrath until the Day of Resurrection.

     ✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ captured us on the day of Hunayn, the day of Hawāzin, and went to distribute the captives and flocks, I came to him and began to recite this poetry: Bestow upon us, O Messenger of Allah, generously, for you are the man we hope for and await. Bestow upon a remnant whom fate has hindered, their unity scattered by the vicissitudes of time. Time has left us wailing in grief, their hearts full of distress and affliction. If you do not reach them with blessings you spread, O most forbearing of people when tested. Bestow upon women whom you used to suckle, when your mouth was filled with streams from her milk. When you were a small child you used to suckle her, and what you do and leave adorns you. Do not make us like one whose ostrich has fled; preserve some of us, for we are a bright group. We are grateful for blessings even when they are disbelieved, and with us after this day there is something stored. Clothe with pardon those whom you used to suckle from your mothers; pardon is renowned. O best of those for whom dark horses pranced in battle when the sparks ignite. We hope for pardon from you that you will clothe this creation with when you pardon and prevail. Pardon, may Allah pardon what you fear on the Day of Resurrection when victory is brought to you. He said: When the Prophet ﷺ heard this poetry, he said ﷺ: What belonged to me and the sons of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib is yours. And Quraysh said: What belonged to us is for Allah and His Messenger. And the Anṣār said: What belonged to us is for Allah and His Messenger.

     ✧ I will certainly find some people from my community who will come on the Day of Resurrection with good deeds like the mountains of Tihāmah, and Allah will make them scattered dust. They said: O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us so that we do not become among them while we do not know. He said: Indeed, they are from your brothers, but they are people who, when they are alone with what Allah has forbidden, violate it.

     ✧ The Prophet ﷺ saw a man praying alone in the mosque after the prayer had been offered, so he said: Is there not a man who will give charity to this one by praying with him?

     سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنْ أَصْحَابِ الْأَعْرَافِ فَقَالَ: هُمْ رِجَالٌ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَهُمْ عُصَاةٌ لِآبَائِهِمْ فَمَنَعَتْهُمُ الشَّهَادَةُ أَنْ يَدْخُلُوا النَّارَ، وَمَنَعَتْهُمُ الْمَعْصِيَةُ أَنْ يَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ، وَهُمْ عَلَى سُورٍ بَيْنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ حَتَّى تَزِيلَ لُحُومُهُمْ وَشُحُومُهُمْ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ اللهُ مِنْ حِسَابِ الْخَلَائِقِ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ اللهُ مِنْ حِسَابِ خَلْقِهِ، فَلَمْ يَبْقَ غَيْرُهُمْ تَغَمَّدَهُمْ مِنْهُ بِرَحْمَتِهِ، فَأَدْخَلَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ

     ✧ The Prophet ﷺ was asked about the people of the Aʿrāf, and he said: They are men who were killed in the path of Allah while they were disobedient to their fathers. Their martyrdom prevented them from entering the Fire, and their disobedience prevented them from entering Paradise. They will be on a wall between Paradise and the Fire until their flesh and fat waste away, until Allah finishes the reckoning of creation. When Allah finishes the reckoning of His creation and no one remains but them, He will encompass them with His mercy and admit them to Paradise by His mercy.

     أَتَى الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي أَتَيْتُ قَوْمًا يَتَحَدَّثُونَ، فَلَمَّا رَأَوْنِي سَكَتُوا، وَمَا ذَاكَ إِلَّا أَنَّهُمْ يَسْتَثْقِلُونِي، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: قَدْ فَعَلُوهَا، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُهُمْ حَتَّى يُحِبَّكُمْ بِحُبِّي، أَيَرْجُونَ أَنْ يَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِشَفَاعَتِي وَلَا يَرْجُونَ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ [ وَلَا يَرْجُو بَنُو عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ]

     ✧ Al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, I went to some people who were conversing, and when they saw me they fell silent, and that was only because they find me burdensome. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: They have done it. By the One in whose hand is my soul, none of them believes until he loves you for my sake. Do they hope to enter Paradise through my intercession while the sons of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib do not hope [and the sons of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib do not hope]?

     ✧ Whoever says when he hears the call to prayer: O Allah, by the right of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad the means and the excellence, and raise him to the praiseworthy station which You have promised him, my intercession on the Day of Resurrection becomes lawful for him.

     ✧ Before he died, the Prophet ﷺ used to say frequently: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I see that you frequently say: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance."' He said: 'I have been commanded with a matter,' and he recited: 'When the victory of Allah and the conquest comes.'

     فَقَدْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَاتَّبَعْتُهُ إِلَى الْمَقَابِرِ، فَقَالَ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ دِيَارَ قَوْمٍ مُؤْمِنِينَ أَنْتُمْ فَرَطُنَا، ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَرَآنِي، فَقَالَ: وَيْحَهَا لَوِ اسْتَطَاعَتْ مَا فَعَلَتْ

     ✧ I missed the Prophet ﷺ, so I followed him to the graveyards. He said: Peace be upon you, abode of a believing people. You are our forerunners. Then he turned and saw me and said: Woe to her! If she could, she would have done it.

     ✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ with his brother, whose belly had swollen. He said: O Messenger of God, my brother's belly has swollen, so I went to the physicians and they instructed me to cauterize him. Should I cauterize him? The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Do not cauterize him; return him to his family. Then a camel passed by him and kicked his belly, and it subsided. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said: If you had brought him to the physicians, you would have said: The fire healed him.

     ✧ Woe to the rich from the poor on the Day of Resurrection. They will say: Our Lord, they wronged us regarding the rights You ordained for us upon them. He will say: By My might and My majesty, I will surely draw you near and distance them. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ recited: In their wealth is a known right for the beggar and the deprived.

     كَانَ مِمَّا دَعَا بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَشِيَّةَ عَرَفَةَ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَرَى مَكَانِي، وَتَسْمَعُ كَلَامِي، وَتَعْلَمُ سِرِّي وَعَلَانِيَتِي، لَا يَخْفَى عَلَيْكَ شَيْءٌ مِنْ أَمْرِي، أَنَا الْبَائِسُ الْفَقِيرُ، الْمُسْتَغِيثُ الْمُسْتَجِيرُ، الْوَجِلُ الْمُشْفِقُ، الْمُقِرُّ الْمُعْتَرِفُ بِذَنْبِهِ، أَسْأَلُكَ مَسْأَلَةَ الْمِسْكِينِ، وَأَبْتَهِلُ إِلَيْكَ ابْتِهَالَ الْمُذْنِبِ الذَّلِيلِ، وَأَدْعُوكَ دُعَاءَ الْخَائِفِ الضَّرِيرِ، مَنْ خَضَعَتْ لَكَ رَقَبَتُهُ، وَذَلَّ جَسَدُهُ، وَرَغِمَ أَنْفُهُ، اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَجْعَلْنِي بِدُعَائِكَ شَقِيًّا، وَكُنْ بِي رَؤُوفًا رَحِيمًا، يَا خَيْرَ الْمَسْؤُولِينَ، وَيَا خَيْرَ الْمُعْطِينَ

     ✧ Among what the Prophet ﷺ supplicated on the evening of Arafah was: O Allah, You see my place, hear my words, and know my secret and my open conduct; nothing of my affair is hidden from You. I am the wretched, the poor, the one seeking help and protection, the fearful, the anxious, the one who confesses and acknowledges his sin. I ask You as a destitute person asks, and I beseech You as a lowly sinner beseeches, and I call upon You as a fearful, blind man calls, one whose neck is humbled before You, whose body is abased, and whose nose is rubbed in the dust. O Allah, do not make me wretched in my supplication to You, and be to me compassionate and merciful, O Best of those asked, and O Best of those who give.

     إِنَّ أُمَّتِي لَمْ تُخْزَ مَا أَقَامُوا شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ، قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَمَا خِزْيُهُمْ فِي إِضَاعَةِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ؟ قَالَ: انْتِهَاكُ الْمَحَارِمِ فِيهِ، مَنْ زَنَى فِيهِ أَوْ شَرِبَ خَمْرًا لَعَنَهُ اللهُ وَمَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ إِلَى مِثْلِهِ مِنَ الْحَوْلِ، فَإِنْ مَاتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُدْرِكَ رَمَضَانَ؛ فَلَيْسَتْ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللهِ حَسَنَةٌ يَتَّقِي بِهَا النَّارَ، فَاتَّقُوا شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ، فَإِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ تُضَاعَفُ فِيهِ مَا لَا تُضَاعَفُ فِيمَا سِوَاهُ، وَكَذَلِكَ السَّيِّئَاتُ

     ✧ My community will never be disgraced as long as they observe the month of Ramadan. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what is their disgrace in neglecting the month of Ramadan? He said: Violating sacred prohibitions in it. Whoever commits fornication in it or drinks wine, Allah curses him and those in the heavens until the like of it from the following year. If he dies before reaching the next Ramadan, he has no good deed with Allah by which to guard against the Fire. So be mindful of the month of Ramadan, for good deeds are multiplied in it as they are not multiplied in other than it, and likewise evil deeds.

     رَأَيْتُ السَّائِبَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ لِحْيَتُهُ بَيْضَاءُ وَرَأْسُهُ أَسْوَدُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا مَوْلَايَ، مَا لِرَأْسِكَ لَا يَبْيَضُّ ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا يَبْيَضُّ رَأْسِي أَبَدًا؛ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَضَى وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ أَلْعَبُ مَعَ الْغِلْمَانِ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْغِلْمَانِ، وَأَنَا فِيهِمْ، فَرَدَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ مِنْ بَيْنِ الْغِلْمَانِ، فَدَعَانِي، فَقَالَ لِي: مَا اسْمُكَ ؟ قُلْتُ: السَّائِبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ابْنِ أُخْتِ النَّمِرِ، فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَيَّ، وَقَالَ: بَارَكَ اللهُ فِيكَ، فَلَا يَبْيَضُّ مَوْضِعُ يَدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَبَدًا

     ✧ I saw al-Sa'ib b. Yazid whose beard was white while his head was black. I said: O my master, why does your head not turn white? He said: My head will never turn white. That is because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by while I was a boy playing with other boys, and he greeted the boys, and I was among them. I returned the greeting to him from among the boys, so he called me and said to me: What is your name? I said: Al-Sa'ib b. Yazid, son of the nephew of al-Namir. He placed his hand on me and said: May Allah bless you. So the place where the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ touched will never turn white.

     ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us the tashahhud: All greetings are for Allah, and all prayers and pure words. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

He said: Forbearance by which the ignorance of an ignorant person is repelled, good character by which he lives among people, and piety that restrains him from disobeying Allah, Mighty and Majestic.

     ✧ We escorted one of the Prophet's wives in a bridal procession to the Prophet ﷺ. When we entered upon him, he brought out a wooden bowl of milk and drank from it, then handed it to his wife. She said: 'I do not desire it.' He said: 'Do not combine hunger with lying.' Then he handed the cup to me, and I began to pass the cup around my mouth, and I would not drink from it except so that my lips might touch the trace of his lips. Then we left him, upon him be peace, and his wife.

He said: 'To emigrate away from what your Lord dislikes.' It was said: 'Which jihad is best?' He said: 'One whose horse is hamstrung and his blood is shed.'

     أَلَا إِنَّ عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ لَيْسَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ نَبِيُّ [وَلَا رَسُولٌ]، إِلَّا [ أَنَّهُ ] خَلِيفَتِي فِي أُمَّتِي مِنْ بَعْدِي، يَقْتُلُ الدَّجَّالَ، وَيَكْسِرُ الصَّلِيبَ، وَيَضَعُ الْجِزْيَةَ، وَتَضَعُ الْحَرْبُ أَوْزَارَهَا، أَلَا مَنْ أَدْرَكَهُ مِنْكُمْ، فَلْيَقْرَأْ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ

     ✧ Indeed, Isa b. Maryam - there is no prophet [or messenger] between me and him, except that he is my successor in my community after me. He will kill the Dajjal, break the cross, abolish the jizyah, and war will lay down its burdens. Whoever among you meets him, let him convey peace to him.

     مَنْ أَصْبَحَ حَزِينًا عَلَى الدُّنْيَا أَصْبَحَ سَاخِطًا عَلَى رَبِّهِ، وَمَنْ أَصْبَحَ يَشْكُو مُصِيبَةً نَزَلَتْ بِهِ، فَإِنَّمَا يَشْكُو اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَمَنْ تَضَعْضَعَ لِغَنِيٍّ لِيَنَالَ مِمَّا فِي يَدَيْهِ أَسْخَطَ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْهِ، وَمَنْ أُعْطِيَ الْقُرْآنَ وَدَخَلَ النَّارَ أَبْعَدَهُ اللهُ

     ✧ Whoever wakes up grieving over the world wakes up angry with his Lord. Whoever wakes up complaining of a calamity that has befallen him is only complaining against Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Whoever humbles himself before a rich man to obtain some of what he possesses incurs the wrath of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, upon himself. And whoever is given the Quran and enters the Fire, Allah has distanced him.

     كَانَ يُعَوِّذُ الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ، فَيَقُولُ: أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

     ✧ He used to seek protection for al-Hasan and al-Husayn, saying: I seek protection for you both with the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.

     ثَلَاثٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ فَقَدْ ذَاقَ طَعْمَ الْإِيمَانِ مَنْ كَانَ لَا شَيْءَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ، وَمَنْ كَانَ لَأَنْ يُحْرَقَ بِالنَّارِ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ أَنْ يَرْتَدَّ عَنْ دِينِهِ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يُحِبُّ لِلهِ وَيُبْغِضُ لِلهِ

     ✧ Three things - whoever has them has tasted the flavor of faith: whoever has nothing dearer to him than Allah and His Messenger; whoever would prefer to be burned in the Fire rather than apostatize from his religion; and whoever loves for the sake of Allah and hates for the sake of Allah.

     لَا يَمْنَعَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ هَيْبَةُ النَّاسِ أَنْ يَقُولَ الْحَقَّ إِذَا رَآهُ أَوْ سَمِعَهُ

     ✧ Let not the awe of people prevent any of you from speaking the truth when he sees it or hears it.

     نَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةً، فَأَصْبَحُوا وَقَدْ طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَقَامَ فَرَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ، ثُمَّ سَارَ قَلِيلًا، ثُمَّ نَزَلَ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَ الْمُؤَذِّنَ، فَأَذَّنَ، وَأَقَامَ، فَصَلَّى وَرَجُلٌ فِي نَاحِيَةٍ، فَقَالَ: مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ ؟ فَقَالَ: أَصَابَتْنِي جَنَابَةٌ، يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَلَيْسَ لَنَا مَاءٌ، فَقَالَ: تَيَمَّمْ بِالصَّعِيدِ، ثُمَّ صَلِّ، فَإِذَا أَتَيْتَ الْمَاءَ، فَاغْتَسِلْ

     ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept one night, and they woke up after the sun had risen. He arose, mounted his riding camel, traveled a little, then dismounted, then ordered the muezzin, who called the adhan and the iqamah, and he prayed. A man was in a corner, so he said: What prevented you from praying? He said: I was in a state of major impurity, O Messenger of Allah, and we had no water. He said: Perform tayammum with clean earth, then pray, and when you come to water, then wash.

     لَا يَقْضِي الْقَاضِي بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ وَهُوَ غَضْبَانُ

     ✧ A judge should not judge between two parties while he is angry.

     أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي كَبِيرٌ ضَرِيرٌ شَاسِعُ الدَّارِ، وَلَا قَائِدَ لِي، فَهَلْ تَجِدُ لِي رُخْصَةً ؟ قَالَ: أَتَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ قَالَ: مَا أَجِدُ لَكَ رُخْصَةً

     ✧ He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, I am old, blind, live far away, and have no guide. Is there any concession for me? He said: Do you hear the call? He said: Yes. He said: I find no concession for you.

222. al-Mu'jam al-Saghir 734No grade recorded

     مَنْ مَاتَ وَهُوَ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ

     ✧ Whoever dies while bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah will enter Paradise.

     إِنَّ أَزْوَاجَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ لَيُغَنِّينَ أَزْوَاجَهُنَّ بِأَحْسَنِ أَصْوَاتٍ سَمِعَهَا أَحَدٌ قَطُّ إِنَّ مِمَّا يُغَنِّينَ: نَحْنُ الْخَيِّرَاتُ الْحِسَانْ أَزْوَاجُ قَوْمٍ كِرَامْ يَنْظُرْنَ بِقُرَّةِ أَعْيَانْ وَإِنَّ مِمَّا يُغَنِّينَ بِهِ: نَحْنُ الْخَالِدَاتُ فَلَا يَمُتْنَهْ نَحْنُ الْآمِنَاتُ فَلَا يَخَفْنَهْ نَحْنُ الْمُقِيمَاتُ فَلَا يَظْعَنَّهْ

     ✧ The wives of the people of Paradise will sing to their husbands with the most beautiful voices anyone has ever heard. Among what they sing is: 'We are the good and beautiful ones, wives of a noble people, who look with joy in their eyes.' And among what they sing is: 'We are the eternal ones, so we do not die; we are the safe ones, so we do not fear; we are the residing ones, so we do not depart.'

     كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقُولُ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

     ✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to say after the Fajr prayer: 'O Allah, I ask You for good provision, beneficial knowledge, and accepted deeds.'

225. al-Mu'jam al-Saghir 737No grade recorded

     أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ ذَكَرَ الدَّجَّالَ فَقَالَ: يَجِيءُ مِنْ هَاهُنَا، لَا بَلْ مِنْ هَاهُنَا، وَأَوْمَى نَحْوَ الْمَشْرِقِ

     ✧ The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the Dajjal and said: 'He will come from here – no, rather from here,' and he gestured toward the east.
