حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَبَّاسِيُّ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَنَا النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَ ؓ: " عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

إِذَا حَضَرْتُمُ الْمَيِّتَ فَقُولُوا خَيْرًا، فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ يُؤَمِّنُونَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا نَقُولُ ؟ قَالَ: قُولِي: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ، وَارْحَمْهُ وَاعْقُبْنِي مِنْهُ عُقْبَى صَالِحَةً، قَالَتْ: فَأَعْقَبَنِي اللهُ مِنْهُ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ

✧ When you are present with the deceased, say good, for the angels say 'Amin.' I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what should we say?" He said: "Say: O Allah, forgive us and him, have mercy on him, and grant me a good successor after him." She said: "So Allah granted me Muhammad ﷺ as a successor after him."
