  1. Sahih Ibn Hibban 129Sahih

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Every newborn is born on the Fitrah (pure natural disposition), but his parents make him Jewish, Christian or Magian."

  2. Sahih Ibn Hibban 130Sahih

    «كُلُّ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ فَأَبَوَاهُ يُهَوِّدَانِهِ وَيُنَصِّرَانِهِ وَيُمَجِّسَانِهِ كَمَا تَنْتِجُونَ إِبِلَكُمْ هَذِهِ هَلْ تُحِسُّونَ فِيهَا مِنْ جَدْعَاءَ؟ » ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَاقْرَؤُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ {فِطْرَةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِخَلْقِ اللَّهِ}

There is none born but is created to his true nature (Islam). It is his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Magian quite as beasts produce their young with their limbs perfect. Do you see anything deficient in them? Then he quoted the Qur'an., The nature made by Allah in which He has created men there is no altering of Allah's creation; that is the right religion" (Rūm 30) (Using translation from Muslim 2658b)

  3. Sahih Ibn Hibban 131Sahih

Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the offspring of the pagans. He said, "Allah knows what they would have done (were they to live)." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6598)

  4. Sahih Ibn Hibban 132Sahih

✧ When they killed the children, the Prophet ﷺ was informed and he said, "Are not your best among you the children of the polytheists? Every child is born upon the innate nature of Islam, and then his parents make him Jewish, Christian, or Magian."

  5. Sahih Ibn Hibban 133Sahih

Every child is born on Islam, but his parents make him a Jew and a Christian, just as a beast is born whole. Do you find some among them (born) maimed? The people asked: Messenger of Allah! What do you think about the one who died while he was young? He replied: Allah knows best what he was going to do. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4714)

  6. Sahih Ibn Hibban 134Sahih

✧ “Our Lord wonders at people who will be led to Paradise in chains.”

  7. Sahih Ibn Hibban 135Sahih

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw, during one of his military expeditions, a woman who had been killed, and he disapproved of that and forbade killing women and children.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me while I was at al-Abwāʾ or Waddān, and I gave him some wild donkey meat as a gift, but he returned it to me. When he saw the displeasure on my face, he said: “It is not that we are rejecting it from you, but we are in a state of iḥrām.”

  9. Sahih Ibn Hibban 137Sahih

✧ “There is no protected pasture except for Allah and His Messenger.”

  10. Sahih Ibn Hibban 138Sahih

✧ A boy died, so I said, "Glad tidings for him—a sparrow among the sparrows of Paradise." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do you not know that Allah created Paradise and created the Fire, and He created for this one its people and for this one its people?"

  11. Sahih Ibn Hibban 128Sahih

✧ On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "Every newborn is born upon the natural disposition, and then his parents make him Jewish, Christian or Magian."

  12. Sahih Ibn Hibban 140Sahih

✧ The woman from the Ansar used to barely have a son to live for. She would vow that if she had a son who survived, she would make him Jewish. But when the Banu Nadir were expelled, among them were some people from the sons of the Ansar. So the Ansar said, "O Messenger of Allah, these are our children." So Allah revealed this verse, "There is no compulsion in religion." Sa'id bin Jubayr said, "So whoever wanted to join them could do so, and whoever wanted to enter Islam could do so."

  13. Sahih Ibn Hibban 141Sahih

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out one night in Ramadan and prayed in the mosque, and some men prayed behind him following his prayer. In the morning the people talked about it, and a larger number of them gathered. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out the second night and they prayed following his prayer. In the morning the people talked about it, and the people of the mosque gathered on the third night. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and they prayed following his prayer. When it was the fourth night, the mosque could not contain its people, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not come out to them until the dawn prayer. When the dawn prayer was completed, he turned to the people, pronounced the testimony of faith, and said, "To proceed: your being here was not hidden from me, but I feared that it would be made obligatory upon you and you would fail to do it." And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to encourage them to stand in prayer during the month of Ramadan without commanding them to perform it as a duty, saying, "Whoever stands in prayer during Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away while the matter was on that basis, then it remained so during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and the early part of the caliphate of Umar, ؓ.

  14. Sahih Ibn Hibban 142Sahih

✧ "The pen has been lifted from three: from the sleeper until he wakes, from the boy until he has a wet dream, and from the insane person until he regains his sanity."

✧ Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ passed by an insane woman of the Banu so-and-so who had committed adultery. Umar had ordered her stoning, but Ali turned her back and said to Umar, "O Commander of the Believers, do you stone this one?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Do you not remember that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The pen has been lifted from three: from the insane person who is overcome in his mind, from the sleeper until he wakes, and from the child until he has a wet dream'?" He said, "You have spoken the truth," so he released her.

✧ When this verse was sent down upon the Prophet ﷺ: {To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth; and whether you reveal what is in yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent}, they came to the Prophet ﷺ and knelt on their knees and said, "We cannot bear it; we are not able. We have been charged with deeds we cannot bear and are not able to do." So Allah sent down: {The Messenger has believed in what was sent down to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers} up to His saying: {[They say], 'Our Lord, grant us Your forgiveness, and to You is the [final] destination.'} Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not say as the People of the Book before you said: 'We hear and we disobey,' but say: 'We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.'" So Allah sent down: {Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what it has earned, and it will bear [the consequence of] what it has incurred. 'Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake.'} He said, "Yes." {Our Lord, and do not lay upon us a burden as You laid it upon those before us.} He said, "Yes." {Our Lord, and do not make us bear what we have no strength for, and pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelieving people.} He said, "Yes."

✧ A man said to Ibn ‘Umar, “Will you not go on expedition?” ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Umar said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Islam is built on five: the testimony that there is no god but Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakah, fasting Ramadan, and pilgrimage to the House.’”

  28. Sahih Ibn Hibban 159Sahih

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was once prominent among the people when a man came to him walking and said, "O Muhammad, what is faith?" He said, "To believe in Allah, His angels, His messengers, and the Day of Judgement, and to believe in the resurrection after death." The man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?" He said, "To worship Allah alone and not associate anything with Him, to establish the obligatory prayers, to pay the obligatory charity, and to fast during the month of Ramadan." The man then asked, "O Muhammad, what is excellence (ihsan)?" He said, "To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then know that He sees you." Finally, the man asked, "O Muhammad, when will the Hour (the Day of Judgement) occur?" He replied, "The one being asked about it knows no more than the questioner, but I will inform you of its signs. When the servant girl gives birth to her master, and you see the barefooted, naked, destitute shepherds competing in the construction of tall buildings, that is among its signs. The knowledge of the Hour belongs only to Allah {Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour} [Quran 31:34]." Then the man left, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "That was Gabriel who came to teach the people their religion."

  29. Sahih Ibn Hibban 160Sahih

✧ O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I did not come to you until I had sworn by the number of these fingers of mine that I would not come to you. What is it with which He sent you? He said, “Islam.” He said, “What is Islam?” He said, “That you submit your heart to Allah, direct your face to Allah, pray the prescribed prayer, and give the obligatory zakah. Two brothers, helpers: Allah does not accept repentance from a servant who associates others after his Islam.”

  30. Sahih Ibn Hibban 161Sahih

✧ A disbelieving guest visited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a sheep for him, and he drank its milk. Then another, and he drank its milk, until he drank the milk of seven sheep. Then he entered the morning and embraced Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a sheep for him, it was milked, and he drank its milk. Then he ordered another for him, but he did not finish it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The believer drinks in one intestine, and the disbeliever drinks in seven intestines.”

✧ The Prophet ﷺ gave to some men and did not give one of them anything. I said, “O Messenger of Allah, you gave so-and-so and so-and-so, but you did not give so-and-so anything, though he is a believer.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Or a Muslim?” He said it three times.

  33. Sahih Ibn Hibban 164Sahih

✧ O Messenger of Allah, what do you think if I meet a man from the disbelievers and he fights me and strikes one of my hands with a sword and cuts it off, then he takes refuge from me behind a tree and says, "I have submitted to Allah"—should I kill him after he has said it? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not kill him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, he has cut off my hand, and he said that after cutting it off—should I kill him?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not kill him, for if you kill him, he would be in the position you were in before you killed him, and you would be in the position he was in before he uttered the word he said."

  34. Sahih Ibn Hibban 165Sahih

✧ I had a small flock that a slave girl of mine pastured near Uḥud and al-Jawwāniyyah. One day I came upon her and the wolf had gone off with one of the sheep. I am one of the children of Adam; I feel regret as they feel regret, so I struck her a slap. That weighed heavily on me, so I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Should I not set her free?" He said, "Bring her to me." I brought her to him, and he said, "Where is Allah?" She said, "In the sky." He said, "Who am I?" She said, "You are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said, "Set her free, for she is a believer."

✧ I said, "O Abu Abdullah al-Rahman, referring to Ibn Umar, there are people who claim that there is no fate (predestination). He said: Do we have anyone among us like them? I said, No. He said: Then convey to them from me that when you meet them, indeed Ibn Umar disassociates himself from you and you disassociate yourselves from him." Umar ibn al-Khattab narrated to us that while we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man came who had no signs of travel nor was he from the people of the city. He came and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah. He said, "O Muhammad, what is Islam? He said, "Islam is that you bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and you establish prayer, give zakah, perform Hajj, perform Umrah, cleanse yourself from major impurity, complete ablution, and fast during Ramadan." He said, "If I do all of that, would I be a Muslim?" He said, "Yes." He said, "You have spoken the truth." He asked, "O Muhammad, what is faith (imaan)?" He said, "Faith is that you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and you believe in the Day of Judgment, and you believe in fate, its good and its evil." He said, "If I do all of that, would I be a believer (mu'min)?" He said, "Yes." He said, "You have spoken the truth." He asked, "O Muhammad, what is excellence (ihsan)?" He said, "Excellence is that you worship Allah as if you see Him, and even though you do not see Him, He sees you." He asked, "If I do that, would I be excellent (muhsin)?" He said, "Yes." He said, "You have spoken the truth." He asked, "O Muhammad, when is the Hour (Day of Judgment)?" He said, "Glory be to Allah, the one who is asked about it knows no more than the questioner, but if you wish, I will inform you about its signs." He said, "Yes." He said, "When you see barefoot, naked, destitute shepherds competing in constructing tall buildings and when you see women giving birth to their mistresses, that is among the signs of the Hour." He said, "You have spoken the truth." Then the man left, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "O Umar, do you know who this man was?" We said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "This was Gabriel who came to teach you your religion."

✧ I have been commanded to fight the people until they say, "There is no god but Allah." If they bear witness that there is no god but Allah and believe in me and in what I have brought, they have protected their blood and their wealth from me, except by its right, and their reckoning is upon Allah.

  44. Sahih Ibn Hibban 175Sahih

✧ There will be rulers after me who say what they do not do and do what they are not commanded. 47. Sahih Ibn Hibban 178Sahih

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah will admit the people of Paradise into Paradise; He admits whom He wills by His mercy, and He will admit the people of the Fire. Then He will say: Bring out whoever has in his heart a mustard seed of faith. They will be brought out of it as charcoal and cast into a river in Paradise, and they will grow as a seed grows in the side of a torrent. Have you not seen it yellow and twisted?'

✧ When the people of Paradise and the people of the Fire are distinguished, the people of Paradise will enter Paradise and the people of the Fire will enter the Fire. The messengers will stand and intercede, and it will be said: Go and bring out whoever you know has in his heart a qirat's weight of faith. They will bring out many people. Then it will be said: Go and bring out whoever you know has in his heart a mustard seed of faith. They will bring out many people. Then He, Mighty and Exalted, will say: Now I will bring out by My grace and My mercy. He will bring out multiples of what they brought out, and they will have been scorched and become charcoal. They will be cast into a river—or into a river of the rivers of Paradise—and their burnt parts will fall off on the bank of that river, and they will return white like the thaarir. It will be written on their necks: 'The freed ones of Allah,' and they will be called therein 'the Jahannamis.'

  53. Sahih Ibn Hibban 184Sahih

✧ As for the people of the Fire who are its inhabitants, they will neither die therein nor live. But people whom the Fire touched because of their sins—or he said: because of their errors—until when they become charcoal, permission will be given for intercession. They will be brought in groups and scattered over the people of Paradise. Then it will be said: O people of Paradise, pour water upon them. They will grow as the seed grows in the silt of the torrent. A man from the people said: It is as if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in the desert.

And if we knew the day on which it was revealed, we would have taken it as a festival. Umar ؓ said: 'I know the day on which it was revealed and the night in which it was revealed: the day of Friday, while we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Arafat.'

When he finished, he turned to the people and said: 'Do you know what your Lord has said?' They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: 'Some of My servants have become believers in Me and disbelievers this morning. As for the one who said: We were given rain by the grace and mercy of Allah, that one believes in Me and disbelieves in the star. ✧ The Prophet ﷺ set out toward Baqi' al-Gharqad, and I set out behind him. He said, "O Abu Dharr." I said, "At your service, then at your service, and I am your ransom." He said, "Those who have much wealth are the ones with little on the Day of Resurrection, except one who says of his wealth, 'Thus and thus,' to his right and to his left"—he said it three times. Then Uhud appeared before us, and he said, "O Abu Dharr, it would not please me that the family of Muhammad had gold and a dinar or mithqal remained with them overnight." I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." Then a valley appeared before us, and the Prophet ﷺ went into its interior and descended into it, while I sat at its edge. I thought he had some need, and he was slow in returning to me, and my thoughts became uneasy. Then I heard a whispered conversation. He said, "That is Jibril informing me for my community: whoever of them bears witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah will enter Paradise." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, even if he commits adultery and steals?" He said, "Even if he commits adultery and steals."

✧ We returned from Makkah with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and people began asking permission of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he began granting them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What is the matter that the side of the tree that is next to the Messenger of Allah is more hateful to you than the other side?" He said: We saw none of the people except weeping. Abu Bakr said, "The one who asks your permission after this is a fool in my estimation." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up, praised Allah and extolled Him, and when he swore he would say, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, I bear witness before Allah that there is not one of you who believes in Allah and then remains steadfast except that he will be led into Paradise. My Lord has promised me to admit seventy thousand of my nation into Paradise without reckoning or punishment. ✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a military expedition, and the people were afflicted with a severe famine. They asked the Messenger of Allah for permission to slaughter some of their riding camels. Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, what would happen to us if we met our enemy hungry and on foot? But if you see fit, O Messenger of Allah, call upon the people to bring the remainder of their provisions." So they came with them, each man bringing a handful of food or more, and the one who brought the most brought a sa' of dates. He gathered it on a leather mat, then called upon Allah as Allah willed him to call. ✧ That 'Itban b. Malik, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and among those who witnessed Badr from the Ansar, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my eyesight has become weak, and I lead my people in prayer. When the rains come, the valley that is between me and them floods, and I am not able to come to their mosque to lead them in prayer. I wish that you, O Messenger of Allah, would come and pray in my house so that I may take it as a place of prayer." He said, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, «I will do so.» 'Itban said, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq went out in the morning when the day had risen, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked permission, and I gave him permission. He did not sit until he entered the house, then he said, «Where would you like me to pray in your house?» He said, so I pointed to a corner of the house. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and said the takbir, and we stood behind him, and he prayed two rak'ahs, then he said the salam. He said, and we detained him for a dish of khazirah that we had prepared for him. He said, then men from the people of the house gathered around him until a number of men had gathered in the house. One of them said, "Where is Malik b. al-Dukhshun?" Some of them said, "That is a hypocrite, and he does not love Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, «Do not say that about him. Do you not see that he has said, "There is no god but Allah," desiring thereby the face of Allah?» They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best. We only see his face and his counsel for the hypocrites." ✧ The delegation of ‘Abd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, we are this tribe from Rabi‘a. The disbelievers of Mudar have come between us and you, and we cannot reach you except in a sacred month. So command us with a matter that we may act upon and call to it those behind us.” He said, “I command you with four: faith in Allah — the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah — establishing prayer, giving zakah, and that you give a fifth of what you gain as booty. I forbid you from gourds, glazed jars, wooden vessels, and pitch-coated vessels.”

✧ The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, the believer is to the believer like a building, each part supporting and strengthening the other."

  103. Sahih Ibn Hibban 232No grade recorded

✧ «The likeness of the believers among themselves is like a building; he inserted his fingers into the earth and said, "They support one another."»

  104. Sahih Ibn Hibban 233Sahih

✧ The likeness of the believer is that of a body: when one part of it hurts, the rest of the body rallies to it.

  105. Sahih Ibn Hibban 234Sahih

✧ None of you believes in Allah until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.

  106. Sahih Ibn Hibban 235Sahih

✧ A servant does not attain the reality of faith until he loves for people the good that he loves for himself.

  107. Sahih Ibn Hibban 236Sahih

✧ By the One in Whose hand is my soul, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not guide you to something that, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread salam among yourselves.

  108. Sahih Ibn Hibban 237Sahih

✧ Three things: whoever has them finds the sweetness of faith — for Allah and His Messenger to be more beloved to him than anything besides them; for a man to love a people, loving them only for Allah's sake; and for a man to prefer being thrown into the Fire over returning to Judaism or Christianity.

  109. Sahih Ibn Hibban 238Sahih

✧ Three things: whoever has them finds the sweetness of faith — for Allah and His Messenger to be more beloved to him than anything besides them; to love a person, loving him only for Allah's sake; and to hate returning to disbelief as much as he hates a fire being lit for him to be thrown into.

  110. Sahih Ibn Hibban 239Sahih

✧ Three things, all of them are obligations upon a Muslim: visiting the sick, attending funerals, and saying "May Allah have mercy on you" to one who sneezes if he praises Allah.

  111. Sahih Ibn Hibban 240Sahih

✧ A Muslim owes his fellow Muslim four duties: visiting him when he is sick, attending his funeral when he dies, responding with mercy when he sneezes, and accepting his invitation when he calls him.

  112. Sahih Ibn Hibban 241Sahih

✧ The right of a Muslim over a Muslim is five: returning the salam, visiting the sick, following funeral processions, accepting invitations, and responding with mercy to the one who sneezes.

  113. Sahih Ibn Hibban 242Sahih

✧ "The right of a Muslim over a Muslim is six." They said, "What are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "When you meet him, greet him with salam; when he invites you, accept; when he seeks your counsel, give him sincere advice; when he sneezes and praises Allah, respond with mercy; when he is sick, visit him; and when he dies, accompany his funeral."

  114. Sahih Ibn Hibban 243No grade recorded

✧ "Who will tell me about a tree whose likeness is that of the believer: its root is firm and its branches are in the sky, yielding its fruit at all times by the leave of its Lord?" Abdullah said, "I wanted to say it is the date palm, but the presence of my father kept me from speaking." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is the date palm." I mentioned that to my father, and he said, "If you had said it, it would have been dearer to me than such and such" — I think he said — "red camels."

  115. Sahih Ibn Hibban 244Sahih

✧ We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when some palm hearts were brought. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among trees there is a tree whose blessing is like that of a Muslim." I thought it was the date palm. Then I looked at the people, and I was the tenth of ten, the youngest of them, so I remained silent. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is the date palm."

  116. Sahih Ibn Hibban 245Sahih

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said one day to his companions: “Tell me about a tree whose likeness is the likeness of the believer.” He said: The people began mentioning trees from the trees of the valley. Abdullah said: And it was cast into my mind or my thought that it was the date-palm. He said: So I wanted to speak, but I saw some of the elders among the people, and I was afraid to say anything. Then when they had not identified it, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “It is the date-palm.”

  117. Sahih Ibn Hibban 246Sahih

✧ “Among the trees is a tree whose leaves do not fall, and it is like the Muslim. So tell me what it is?” The people fell to mentioning the trees of the deserts. Abdullah said: It occurred to me that it was the date-palm, but I felt shy. Then they said…

  118. Sahih Ibn Hibban 247Sahih

✧ “The likeness of the believer is the likeness of the bee: it does not eat except what is good, and it does not put except what is good.”

  119. Sahih Ibn Hibban 229Sahih

✧ «Indeed, part of the excellence of a person's Islam is his leaving what does not concern him.»

  120. Sahih Ibn Hibban 230Sahih

✧ «The Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe, and the emigrant is one who emigrates from what Allah has forbidden.»

  121. Sahih Ibn Hibban 250Sahih

✧ “Any person who says to his brother, ‘Unbeliever,’ then one of them has incurred it: if he is as he said, then it is as he said; otherwise it returns upon him.”
