✧ The Obligation of Faith

أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتُوَائِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الْإِيمَانُ؟ قَالَ «إِذَا سَرَّتْكَ حَسَنَاتُكَ وَسَاءَتْكَ سَيِّئَاتُكَ فَأَنْتَ مُؤْمِنٌ» قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَمَا الْإِثْمُ؟ قَالَ «إِذَا حَاكَ فِي قَلْبِكَ شَيْءٌ فَدَعْهُ»

✧ A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is faith?" He said, "When your good deeds please you and your evil deeds grieve you, then you are a believer." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is sin?" He said, "When something stirs in your heart, leave it."
