✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Mu‘adh to Yemen, he said, “You will come upon a people from the People of the Book. Let the first thing to which you call them be worship of Allah. When they acknowledge Allah, inform them that Allah has obligated upon them five prayers in their day and night. When they do them, inform them that Allah has obligated upon them charity taken from their wealth and returned to their poor. When they obey this, take from them and avoid the best properties of the people.”

machine translationZakariyyā b. Isḥāq narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. It was said, from him, from Yaḥyā b. ʿAbdullāh b. Ṣayfī, from Abū Maʿbad, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from Muʿādh b. Jabal. Abū Bakr b. Abī Shaybah said that from Wakīʿ, from Zakariyyā b. Isḥāq, and he was not corroborated in it. Muslim also recorded it in his Ṣaḥīḥ from Abū Bakr b. Abī Shaybah in this way, as a connected report (musnad) from Ibn ʿAbbās, from Muʿādh. But a group of trustworthy memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrated it from Wakīʿ and differed from Ibn Abī Shaybah in it, and they traced it back to Ibn ʿAbbās: that when the Prophet ﷺ sent Muʿādh to Yemen... And Ismāʿīl b. Umayyah said likewise, from Yaḥyā b. ʿAbdullāh b. Ṣayfī. The correct (ṣaḥīḥ) view is that it is from the musnad of Ibn ʿAbbās.
