✧ «I have been commanded to fight the people until they say, "There is no god but Allah." So whoever says, "There is no god but Allah" has protected from me his life and his property, except by its right, and his reckoning is with Allah. And Allah sent down in His Book than he mentioned a people who were arrogant, so He said: {Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no god but Allah," were arrogant} and He said: {When those who disbelieved had put into their hearts the zealotry, the zealotry of ignorance, so Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and imposed on them the word of righteousness}, and it is "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." The polytheists were arrogant against it on the day of Hudaybiyyah.»

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Among those who narrated it from him correctly are Shuʿayb b. Abī Ḥamzah, Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, Muḥammad b. al-Walīd al-Zubaydī, Yūnus, ʿUqayl, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Khālid b. Musāfir, al-Nuʿmān b. Rāshid, Sufyān b. Ḥusayn, Sulaymān b. Kathīr, Muḥammad b. Isḥāq, Jaʿfar b. Burqān and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Yazīd b. Tamīm. They narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: ʿUmar said to Abū Bakr. There is disagreement about Sufyān b. Ḥusayn: Muḥammad b. Yazīd al-Wāsiṭī narrated it from him as connected (musnad), from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh, from Abū Hurayrah, while Yazīd b. Hārūn narrated it as mursal, omitting Abū Hurayrah. Maʿmar b. Rāshid also narrated it, and there is disagreement about him: Rabāḥ b. Zayd narrated it as connected from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh, from Abū Hurayrah, in agreement with those mentioned before, but ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it as mursal from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh, without mentioning Abū Hurayrah. ʿImrān al-Qaṭṭān narrated it from Maʿmar and said: from al-Zuhrī, from Anas b. Mālik, from Abū Bakr, and he erred in this regarding Maʿmar. Yaḥyā b. Abī Unaysah narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, and he also erred in mentioning Saʿīd. Ṣāliḥ b. Abī al-Akhḍar narrated it and said: from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd and Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah. Al-Walīd b. Muslim narrated it from Shuʿayb, and Marzūq b. Abī al-Hudhayl and Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd, from Abū Hurayrah, and he erred in this regarding Shuʿayb and Ibn ʿUyaynah, because Shuʿayb narrates it from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh, from Abū Hurayrah, and Ibn ʿUyaynah narrates it from al-Zuhrī as mursal, mentioning no one above him. The first view is the correct one.
