✧ While we were sitting in the mosque, a man entered on a camel. He made it kneel in the mosque, then hobbled it, then said to them, “Which of you is Muhammad?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was reclining among them. We said to him, “This white man who is reclining.” The man said to him, “O son of Abd al-Muttalib.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “I have answered you.” The man said, “O Muhammad, I am going to ask you and be harsh in questioning, so do not find anything against me in yourself.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Ask whatever appears to you.” The man said, “I adjure you by your Lord and the Lord of those before you: did Allah send you to all the people?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O Allah, yes.” He said, “I adjure you by Allah: did Allah command you that we pray the five prayers in the day and night?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O Allah, yes.” He said, “I adjure you by Allah: did Allah command you that we fast this month of the year?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O Allah, yes.” He said, “I adjure you by Allah: did Allah command you to take this charity from our rich and distribute it among our poor?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O Allah, yes.” The man said, “I believe in what you have brought, and I am the messenger of those behind me from my people. I am Dimam b. Tha‘laba, the brother of the Banu Sa‘d b. Bakr.”

machine translationA hadith narrated by Ibn Abī Fudayk from al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. ʿUthmān from Saʿīd al-Maqburī from Abū Hurayrah is an error (wahm). Rather, it was narrated by al-Layth from Saʿīd al-Maqburī from Sharīk b. ʿAbdillāh b. Abī Namir from Anas from the Prophet ﷺ, and that is more likely correct.
in صحيح ابن حبان, p. 155 - Dāraquṭnī
والصواب ما رواه الليث بن سعد عن سعيد المقبري عن شريك بن أبي نمر عن أنس بن مالك
machine translationThe correct version is what al-Layth b. Saʿd narrated from Saʿīd al-Maqburī from Sharīk b. Abī Namir from Anas b. Mālik.
in صحيح ابن حبان, p. 155 - Dāraquṭnī
وقد سمعه الليث من المقبري وهو صحيح عنه
machine translationAl-Layth heard it from al-Maqburī, and it is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) from him.
in صحيح ابن حبان, p. 155
