6. Righteousness and Excellence (Iḥsān)
Sahih Ibn Hibban 272Sahih
✧ “A man will continue to be truthful and to seek out truthfulness until he is written with Allah as a truthful one (ṣiddīq), and a man will continue to lie and to seek out lying until he is written with Allah as a liar.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 273Sahih
✧ “Indeed, truthfulness guides to righteousness, and righteousness guides to Paradise. A man will continue to be truthful until he is written with Allah as a truthful one (ṣiddīq). And indeed, lying guides to wickedness, and wickedness guides to the Fire. A man will continue to lie until he is written with Allah as a liar.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 274Sahih
✧ “You must be truthful, for truthfulness guides to righteousness, and righteousness guides to Paradise. A man will continue to be truthful until he is written with Allah as a truthful one (ṣiddīq). And indeed, lying guides to wickedness, and wickedness guides to the Fire. A man will continue to lie until he is written with Allah as a liar.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 275Sahih
✧ “Let not the fear of people prevent any of you from speaking the truth when he sees it.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 276Sahih
✧ “Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah by the displeasure of people ؓ, Allah will be pleased with him and will make people pleased with him. And whoever seeks the pleasure of people by the displeasure of Allah, Allah will be displeased with him and will make people displeased with him.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 277Sahih
✧ “Whoever pleases Allah by displeasing people, Allah will suffice him; and whoever displeases Allah by pleasing people, Allah will entrust him to the people.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 278Sahih
✧ “Let not the fear of people prevent any of you from speaking the truth when he sees it or knows it.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 279Sahih
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us while we were nine—five and four—one of the two groups was from the Arabs and the other from the non-Arabs. He said: “Listen, or have you heard? Indeed, there will be rulers after me. Whoever enters upon them and confirms their lies and helps them in their wrongdoing is not of me, and I am not of him, and he will not come to me at the Basin. And whoever does not confirm their lies and does not help them in their wrongdoing is of me, and I am of him, and he will come to me at the Basin.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 271Sahih
✧ “Guarantee me six things and I will guarantee you Paradise: speak the truth when you speak, fulfill your promises when you promise, return trusts when you are entrusted, guard your private parts, lower your gazes, and restrain your hands.”
Sahih Ibn Hibban 281Sahih
✧ Indeed, one of you speaks a word from what pleases Allah, not thinking that it reaches what it reached, and Allah writes for him thereby His pleasure until the day he meets Him; and indeed, one of you speaks a word from what angers Allah, not thinking that it reaches what it reached, and Allah writes for him thereby His wrath until the day he meets Him.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 282Sahih

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out while we were nine, and among us was a leather cushion, and he said: "There will be after me rulers. Whoever enters upon them and confirms them in their lies and aids them in their oppression is not of me, and I am not of him, and he will not come to me at the Basin. And whoever does not enter upon them, does not confirm them in their lies, and does not aid them in their oppression, he is of me and I am of him, and he will come to me at the Basin."

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us while we were sitting on a leather cushion, and he said: "There will be after me rulers. Whoever enters upon them and confirms them in their lies and aids them in their oppression is not of me, and I am not of him, and he will not come to me at the Basin. And whoever does not confirm them in their lies and does not aid them in their oppression, he is of me and I am of him, and he is one who will come to me at the Basin."
Sahih Ibn Hibban 284Hasan
✧ We were sitting at the door of the Prophet ﷺ, and he came out to us and said: "Listen." We said: "We have heard." He said: "Listen." We said: "We have heard." He said: "Listen." We said: "We have heard." He said: "Indeed, there will be after me rulers, so do not confirm them in their lies and do not aid them in their oppression. For whoever confirms them in their lies and aids them in their oppression will not come to me at the Basin."
Sahih Ibn Hibban 285Sahih

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "There will be after me rulers whom crowds of people will flock to. Whoever confirms them in their lies and aids them in their oppression, I am free from him and he is free from me. And whoever does not confirm them in their lies and does not aid them in their oppression, I am of him and he is of me."
Sahih Ibn Hibban 287Sahih
✧ We were sitting with him in the marketplace when a man from the people of Madinah who had nobility passed by him, and he said to him: O son of my brother, you have a right (to be reminded), and indeed you enter upon these rulers and speak before them. Indeed, I heard Bilal b. al-Harith, the Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Indeed, a servant speaks a word and does not see that it has reached where it has reached, and Allah writes for him thereby His pleasure until the Day of Resurrection; and indeed, a servant speaks a word and does not see that it has reached where it has reached, and Allah writes for him thereby His wrath until the day he meets Him." So consider, O son of my brother, what you say and what you speak. For much speech has been prevented from me by what I heard from Bilal b. al-Harith.
✧ From his grandfather, he said:
Sahih Ibn Hibban 289Sahih
✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him, and he said: "I have nothing to give you, but go to so-and-so." He said: So the man went to that person and he gave him. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever points to a good deed has the like of the reward of its doer or its performer."
✧ The Prophet ﷺ entered upon me, and I recognized in his face that something had come to him. He performed ablution and did not speak to anyone, then he went out, and I clung to the chamber to hear what he would say. He sat on the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "O people, indeed Allah, Blessed and Exalted, says to you: Enjoin good and forbid wrong before you call upon Me and I do not answer you, and you ask Me and I do not give you, and you seek My help and I do not help you." He added nothing more until he descended.

✧ She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say while he was on the pulpit: "Indeed, there is nothing more jealous than Allah, Mighty and Exalted."
Sahih Ibn Hibban 292No grade recorded
✧ The believer is jealous, and Allah is more intensely jealous.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 293No grade recorded
Allah is self-respecting and a believer is also self-respecting and the respect of Allah is injured if a believer does what He has forbidden him to do. (Using translation from Muslim 2761a)
Sahih Ibn Hibban 294No grade recorded
✧ No one loves praise more than Allah, so He praised Himself, and no one is more jealous than Allah, so He forbade indecencies.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 295Hasan
✧ Indeed, some jealousy Allah loves and some He hates. The jealousy Allah loves is jealousy for Allah's sake, and the jealousy Allah hates is jealousy for other than Allah. And indeed, some pride Allah loves and some He hates. The pride Allah loves is for a servant to show pride in himself at the time of fighting and to show pride at the time of charity. The pride Allah hates is pride for other than the religion.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 296Hasan

✧ And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Indeed, there is a lump of flesh in the body; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt.'

✧ And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'The believers, in their mutual mercy and kindness to one another, are like a single body; if one part complains, the rest of the body aches.'

✧ The one who is lenient with the limits of Allah, the one who transgresses the limits of Allah, the one who commands them, and the one who forbids them are like a people who drew lots for places on a ship at sea. One of them got the stern, the farthest from the water, and they were foolish. When they passed by the men of the people, they annoyed them. They said, 'We are the closest people on the ship to the water and the farthest from the water; come, let us bore a hole in the side of the ship, then we will repair it when we no longer need it.' The foolish among those who opposed him said, 'Do it.' He reached for an axe to strike the bottom of the ship. A wise man looked at him and said, 'What are you doing?' He said, 'We are the closest to the water and the farthest from it; I will bore a hole in the side of the ship, and when we no longer need it, we will plug it.' He said, 'Do not do it, for if you do, you will perish and we will perish.'
Sahih Ibn Hibban 299Sahih
✧ Every joint of a person owes charity every day. A man from the people said, 'Who can bear that?' He said, 'Enjoining good is charity, forbidding wrong is charity, helping the weak is charity, and every step one takes to prayer is charity.'

✧ There is no people among whom sins are committed while they are able to change them but they do not change them, except that Allah will strike them with punishment before they die.

I heard Bilāl b. al-Ḥārith al-Muzanī, the Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Indeed, one of you speaks a word that is pleasing to Allah, not expecting it to reach what it reaches, and Allah writes for him His pleasure until the day he meets Him. And indeed, one of you speaks a word that is displeasing to Allah, not expecting it to reach what it reaches, and Allah writes for him His displeasure until the Day of Resurrection.’”
