✧ Umar b. al-Khattab addressed the people and said: A time passed over us when we thought that no one learned the Book of Allah, exalted is He, except wanting Allah by it, until when it came to this later time, I thought that some people learn the Quran wanting by it the people and what they have. So intend Allah by your deeds and your recitation. We used to know you while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was among us and revelation was descending and informing us of your news. As for today, I only know you by your statements. Whoever shows us good, we think good of him and love him for it, and whoever shows us evil, we think evil of him and hate him for it. Your secrets are between you and Allah.

✧ When revelation descended upon the Prophet ﷺ, a sound like the buzzing of bees was heard near his face. It descended upon him and we remained for an hour. He faced the qiblah and raised his hands and said: “O Allah, increase us and do not decrease us, honor us and do not humiliate us, give us and do not deprive us, prefer us and do not prefer others over us, and be pleased with us.” Then he said: “Ten verses were sent down to me; whoever establishes them will enter Paradise.” Then he recited to us “The believers have certainly succeeded” until he completed the ten.

✧ While I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, verses were sent down upon him the like of which I had not heard and the like of which I had not seen: the two mu'awwidhat.
