✧ Whoever harms a friend of Mine has declared war on Me. My servant does not draw near to Me with anything I love more than performing what I have made obligatory upon him. And My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory deeds until I love him. If he asks Me, I will give him, and if he seeks My refuge, I will grant him refuge. I have never hesitated about anything I am going to do as I hesitate about taking his soul, because he hates it and I hate to displease him.

So I began the conversation and said: "O Messenger of Allah, you commanded me to pray. What is prayer?" He ﷺ said: "A good thing established; whoever wishes may do little, and whoever wishes may do much." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is fasting?" He ﷺ said: "An obligatory duty that suffices." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, which verse of the Qur'an revealed to you is greatest?" He ﷺ said: "The Verse of the Throne. And do you know what the likeness of the heavens and the earth is in relation to the Throne?" I said: "No, unless you teach me from what Allah, the Exalted, has taught you." He ﷺ said: "The likeness of the heavens and the earth in relation to the Throne is only like a ring thrown in a vast desert. He ﷺ said: "No, the messengers among them were three hundred and fifteen men." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, which of them was first?" He ﷺ said: "Adam, ﷺ." I said: "Was Adam a prophet?" He ﷺ said: "Yes, Allah formed his dust and created him with His hand and breathed into him of His spirit and spoke to him directly. Then the people around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became many."
