وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ، ثَنَا الصَّلْتُ بْنُ بَهْرَامَ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ ؓ قَالَ:
رَأَيْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ صَلَّى أَرْبَعًا طُوَالًا، فَسَأَلْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّيهَا، فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ تُفْتَحُ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَلَا تُرْتَجُ حَتَّى تُصَلَّى الظُّهْرُ، فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ يُرْفَعَ لِي إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَمَلٌ

✧ I saw ‘Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ when the sun declined pray four long (rak’ahs). I asked him, and he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying them, and I asked him, and he said: “The gates of heaven are opened when the sun declines, and they are not closed until Zuhr is prayed. So I love that a deed be raised for me to Allah, Mighty and Majestic.”
