✧ The witr prayer

وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: نَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو نَعَامَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ قَالَ:

كَانَ أَبُو مُوسَى ؓ إِذَا صَلَّى بِنَا الْغَدَاةَ يُقْرِئُنَا، فَأَتَى عَلِيٌّ ؓ، فَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ إِلَى جَنْبِي عَنِ الْوِتْرِ، فَقَالَ: ثَلَاثٌ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ وَاحِدَةٍ، وَخَمْسٌ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ، وَسَبْعٌ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَمْسٍ.

Translation

✧ Abu Musa ؓ, when he led us in the morning prayer, would make us recite. Then 'Ali ؓ came, and a man beside me asked him about witr. He said: 'Three is more beloved to me than one, and five is more beloved to me than three, and seven is more beloved to me than five.'
