✧ Forgetfulness in prayer

وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْمُقْرِئُ، ثَنَا حَيْوَةُ، أَخْبَرَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ شِمَاسَةَ، قَالَ:

صَلَّى عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ ؓ بِالنَّاسِ، فَقَامَ عَنْ تَشَهُّدِهِ، فَصَاحَ بِهِ النَّاسُ، فَقَالُوا: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ، سُبْحَانَ اللهِ، فَصَلَّى كَمَا هُوَ، فَلَمَّا أَتَمَّ صَلَاتَهُ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَخْفَ عَلَيَّ الَّذِي أَرَدْتُمْ، وَلَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي مِنَ الْجُلُوسِ إِلَّا الَّذِي صَنَعْتُ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ

Translation

✧ 'Amr b. al-'As ؓ led the people in prayer and stood up from his tashahhud. The people shouted at him, saying: 'Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah,' but he continued praying as he was. When he completed his prayer, he prostrated twice, then said: 'O people, what you intended was not hidden from me, and nothing prevented me from sitting except that what I did was according to the Sunnah.'
