وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ ضَمْضَمِ بْنِ جَوْسٍ قَالَ:

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ ؓ، وَهُمَا قَاعِدَانِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ حِينَ زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ حَنْظَلَةَ ؓ: صَلَّى بِنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ صَلَاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ، فَلَمْ يَقْرَأْ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى فَسَهَا، فَلَمَّا قَامَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ قَرَأَ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ، وَسُورَةٍ، ثُمَّ عَادَ فَقَرَأَ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ، وَسُورَةٍ، ثُمَّ مَضَى حَتَّى قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيِ السَّهْوِ

Translation

✧ I entered upon Abu Hurayrah and 'Abd Allah b. Hanzalah ؓ while they were sitting in the mosque when the sun had declined [from its zenith]. 'Abd Allah b. Hanzalah ؓ said: 'Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ led us in the Maghrib prayer, and he did not recite in the first rak'ah; he forgot. When he stood for the second rak'ah, he recited the Opening of the Book (Umm al-Qur'an) and a surah, then he returned and recited the Opening of the Book and a surah, then he continued until he completed his prayer, then he prostrated the two prostrations of forgetfulness.'
