✧ Forgetfulness in prayer

وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ ؓ:
أَنَّهُ نَهَضَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَسَبَّحُوا بِهِ، فَاسْتَتَمَّ قَائِمًا، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيِ السَّهْوِ حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ، قَالَ: كُنْتُمْ تَرَوْنَنِي أَجْلِسُ، إِنِّي صَنَعْتُ كَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ
Translation

✧ He rose after the first two rak'ahs (in a four-rak'ah prayer), and the people glorified Allah (tasbih) to alert him. He completed standing, then prostrated the two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajdatay al-sahw) until he concluded. He said: 'You thought I would sit; I did as I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do.'
