✧ A man freed six of his slaves at the time of death, having no wealth other than them, so he freed them upon his death. That reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he divided them into three parts: he freed two and kept four as slaves.

✧ Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from Simak, from al-Hasan, from 'Imran b. Husayn, from the Prophet ﷺ similarly. And this hadith has been reported from 'Imran b. Husayn, from the Prophet ﷺ through several routes and from other than 'Imran b. Husayn, and its chain is hasan. In it there is the fiqh that it is not permissible for a man to bequeath more than one-third, and if he bequeaths more than one-third, it is rejected; because the Prophet ﷺ returned the whole to one-third. In it there is also that a sick man has no right to dispose of his wealth when his illness becomes severe and his life is feared except up to one-third, and if he gives out more than one-third, it is returned, even if it is not a bequest, for it is treated like a bequest.

✧ When 'Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ came to al-Basrah and led them in prayer, he used to say the takbir every time he raised and lowered himself. 'Imran said: This old man reminded us of a prayer we used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

نَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوِهِ. وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ ذَكَرْنَاهُ عَنْ يُونُسَ، وَإِنْ كَانَ غَيْرَ مُتَّصِلٍ لِجَلَالَةِ يُونُسَ؛ وَلِأَنَّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ لَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا يَرْوِيهِ عَنْ يُونُسَ إِلَّا الْمُعْتَمِرُ؛ فَلِذَلِكَ ذَكَرْنَا، وَأَمَّا حَدِيثُ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ فَإِنَّهُ مُتَّصِلٌ، وَأَبُو الْعَلَاءِ هُوَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ وَهُوَ أَخُو مُطَرِّفٍ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْكَلَامُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ وَعِمْرَانُ أَعْلَى مَنْ رَوَى ذَلِكَ مِنْ وَجْهٍ صَحِيحٍ
✧ Al-Jurayri narrated to us, from Abu al-'Ala', from Mutarrif, from 'Imran b. Husayn ؓ, from the Prophet ﷺ similarly. And we have mentioned this hadith from Yunus, even though it is not continuous, due to the prestige of Yunus; and because we do not know anyone who narrates this hadith from Yunus except al-Mu'tamir; so for that reason we mentioned it. As for the hadith of al-Jurayri, it is continuous, and Abu al-'Ala' is Yazid b. 'Abd Allah b. al-Shikhkhir, the brother of Mutarrif. This statement has been reported from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ through other than one route, and 'Imran is the highest authority who reported that from a sound route.

✧ We were with him at al-Basrah and passed by a man reciting Surah Yusuf. He sat down and said to us: 'Listen to the Quran.' When the reciter finished his recitation, he asked [for something]. Imran said: 'Indeed we belong to God and to Him we return.' Then Imran said to us: 'Leave, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: Whoever among you recites the Quran, let him ask God by it, for there will come people after you who ask people by it.'

أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ حَدِيثًا لَمْ أُحَدِّثْ بِهِ أَحَدًا مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَتَّكِلَ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ عَلِمَ أَنَّ اللهَ رَبُّهُ وَأَنِّي نَبِيُّهُ مُوقِنًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ، وَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى جِلْدِهِ، حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ عَلَى النَّارِ أَوْ حَرَّمَ اللهُ جِلْدَهُ عَلَى النَّارِ.
✧ Shall I tell you a hadith that I have not told anyone since I heard it from the Messenger of God ﷺ, fearing that people would rely upon it? I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'Whoever knows that God is his Lord and that I am His Prophet, with certainty from his heart'—and he pointed with his hand to his skin—'God will forbid him from the Fire, or God will forbid his skin from the Fire.'

✧ A she-camel belonging to the Prophet ﷺ went missing, and a woman vowed to slaughter it. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'No one has a vow in disobedience,' or he forbade vows in disobedience.

✧ It was said to the Prophet ﷺ: 'Will the people of Paradise be known from the people of the Fire?' He said: 'Yes.' They said: 'Then what is the point of action?' He said: 'Act,' or he said: 'Each person acts according to what he was created for.' Shu'bah said: 'For what he was created for, or for what he was facilitated.'

لَقِيتُ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ وَأَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ فَسَأَلْتُهُمَا عَنْ تَفْسِيرِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ وَمَسَاكِنَ طَيِّبَةً فِي جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ قَالَا: عَلَى الْخَبِيرِ سَقَطْتَ سَأَلْنَا عَنْهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: قَصْرٌ مِنْ دُرَّةٍ، فِي ذَلِكَ الْقَصْرِ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ دَارٍ مِنْ زُمُرُّدَةٍ خَضْرَاءَ، فِي كُلِّ بَيْتٍ مِنْهَا سَبْعُونَ سَرِيرًا، عَلَى كُلِّ سَرِيرٍ سَبْعُونَ فِرَاشًا مِنْ كُلِّ لَوْنٍ، عَلَى كُلِّ فِرَاشٍ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الْحُورِ الْعِينِ، فِي كُلِّ بَيْتٍ سَبْعُونَ مَائِدَةً، عَلَى كُلِّ مَائِدَةٍ سَبْعُونَ لَوْنًا، فِي كُلِّ بَيْتٍ سَبْعُونَ وَصِيفًا أَوْ وَصِيفَةً، يُعْطَى مِنَ الْقُوَّةِ مَا يَأْتِي عَلَى ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ فِي غَدَاةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ
✧ I met 'Imran b. Husayn and Abu Hurayrah ؓ and asked them about the interpretation of this verse: "and goodly dwellings in the Gardens of 'Adn" (Qur'an 9:72). They said: You have asked one who knows. We asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it, and he said: "A palace of pearl, in which there are seventy thousand mansions of green emerald; in each house there are seventy thousand couches; on each couch are seventy thousand mattresses of every color; on each mattress is a wife from the h?r al-??n; in each house there are seventy thousand tables, on each table seventy thousand kinds of food; in each house there are seventy thousand young male or female servants. He will be given such strength that he can visit all of it in a single morning."

سَرَيْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ السَّحَرِ عَرَّسْنَا فَمَا أَيْقَظَنَا إِلَّا حَرُّ الشَّمْسِ فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَنْتَبِهُ دَهِشًا فَزِعًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " ارْكَبُوا " فَرَكِبَ وَرَكِبْنَا حَتَّى ارْتَفَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَنَزَلَ فَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا وَأَذَّنَ فَصَلَّيْنَا الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْغَدَاةِ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَلَا نَقْضِيهَا لِوَقْتِهَا مِنَ الْغَدِ ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا " يَنْهَاكُمُ اللهُ عَنِ الرِّبَا وَيَقْبَلُهُ مِنْكُمْ
✧ We traveled by night with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during a military expedition. When it was near dawn, we halted to rest, and nothing woke us but the heat of the sun. A man began to wake startled and alarmed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Mount up." So he mounted and we mounted until the sun had risen high. Then he dismounted, ordered Bilal to give the call to prayer, and we prayed the two rak'ahs before the dawn prayer. Then he gave the iqamah and led us in prayer. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, should we not make it up at its proper time tomorrow?" He said: "No. Allah forbids you from usury and accepts it from you."

أَنَّ قَوْمًا أَتَوْا عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ فَقَالُوا: لَا تُحَدِّثْنَا إِلَّا بِمَا فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ فَغَضِبَ، وَقَالَ: مِنْ أَيْنَ تَجِدُونَ فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ الصَّلَاةَ الْخَمْسَ وَفِي كُلِّ مِائَتَيْنِ خَمْسَةُ دَرَاهِمَ وَفِي كُلِّ أَرْبَعِينَ دِينَارًا دِينَارٌ وَفِي كُلِّ عِشْرِينَ نِصْفُ دِينَارٍ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ هَذَا عَدَّدَهَا وَلَكِنْ خُذُوا كَمَا أَخَذْنَا
✧ That some people came to Imran b. Husayn and said: Do not narrate to us except what is in the Book of Allah. He became angry and said: Where do you find in the Book of Allah the five prayers, and that in every two hundred [dirhams] five dirhams [of zakah], and in every forty dinars one dinar, and in every twenty half a dinar—things like these which he enumerated—but take as we have taken.

✧ "He is not from us who practices augury or has it done for him, or practices divination or has it done for him, or practices sorcery or has it done for him. And whoever ties a knot—or he said: whoever ties a knot—and whoever comes to a soothsayer and believes what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad ﷺ."

" يَا حُصَيْنُ كَمْ تَعْبُدُ الْيَوْمَ إِلَهًا ؟ قَالَ: سَبْعَةً، سِتَّةٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَوَاحِدٌ فِي السَّمَاءِ قَالَ: " فَأَيُّهُمْ تَعُدُّ لِرَغْبَتِكَ وَرَهْبَتِكَ ؟ قَالَ: الَّذِي فِي السَّمَاءِ، فَقَالَ: " يَا حُصَيْنُ أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَوْ أَسْلَمْتَ عَلَّمْتُكَ كَلِمَتَيْنِ تَنْفَعَانِكَ " فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَ حُصَيْنٌ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَلِّمْنِي الَّذِي وَعَدْتَنِي قَالَ: " قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ أَلْهِمْنِي رُشْدِي وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي
✧ "O Husayn, how many gods do you worship today?" He said: Seven—six on earth and one in heaven. He said: "Which of them do you count for your desire and fear?" He said: The one in heaven. Then he said: "O Husayn, if you embrace Islam, I will teach you two words that will benefit you." When Husayn embraced Islam, he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me what you promised me. He said: "Say: O Allah, inspire me with my right guidance and protect me from the evil of my soul."

عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّعِيدِ فَإِنَّهُ يَكْفِيكَ ثُمَّ سَارَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاشْتَكَى إِلَيْهِ النَّاسُ الْعَطَشَ فَنَزَلَ ثُمَّ دَعَا فُلَانًا يُسَمِّيهِ أَبُو رَجَاءٍ وَنَسِيَهُ عَوْفٌ وَدَعَا عَلِيًّا فَقَالَ: اذْهَبَا فَابْتَغِيَا الْمَاءَ أَوِ ابْغِيَانَا الْمَاءَ قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقَا قَالَ: فَتَلَقَّيَا امْرَأَةً بَيْنَ مَزَادَتَيْنِ أَوْ سَطِيحَتَيْنِ مِنْ مَاءٍ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ لَهَا فَقَالَا لَهَا: أَيْنَ عَهْدُكَ بِالْمَاءِ ؟ قَالَتْ: عَهْدِي بِالْأَمْسِ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ وَنَفَرُنَا خُلُوفًا فَقَالَا لَهَا: انْطَلِقِي قَالَتْ إِلَى أَيْنَ ؟ فَقَالَا لَهَا: إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ: إِلَى هَذَا الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ الصَّابِئُ فَقَالَا: هُوَ الَّذِي تَعْنِينَ فَانْطَلِقِي إِلَيْهِ فَجَاءَ بِهَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَحَدَّثْتُهُ الْحَدِيثَ فَاسْتَنْزَلُوهَا عَنْ بَعِيرِهَا وَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِإِنَاءٍ فَأَفْرَغَ فِيهِ مِنْ أَفْوَاهِ الْمَزَادَتَيْنِ أَوِ السَّطِيحَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أَوْكَأَ أَفْوَاهَهُمَا وَأَطْلَقَ الْعَزَالِيَ وَنُودِيَ فِي النَّاسِ أَنِ اسْقُوا فَاسْتَقَى مَنِ اسْتَقَى وَسَقَى مَنْ سَقَى، وَكَانَ آخِرَ ذَلِكَ أَنْ أَعْطَى الَّذِي أَصَابَتْهُ الْجَنَابَةُ إِنَاءً مِنْ مَاءٍ فَقَالَ: اذْهَبْ فَأَفْرِغْهُ عَلَيْكَ وَهِيَ قَائِمَةٌ تَنْظُرُ إِلَى مَا يُفْعَلُ بِمَائِهَا قَالَ: وَايْمُ اللهِ لَقَدْ أُقْلِعَ عَنْهَا حِينَ أُقْلِعَ وَإِنَّهُ لَيُخَيَّلُ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهَا أَشَدُّ مَلْأً مِنْهَا حِينَ أَسْقَاهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اجْمَعُوا لَهَا، فَجَمَعُوا لَهَا مِنْ بَيْنِ عَجْوَةٍ وَدَقِيقَةٍ وَسَوِيقَةٍ فَجَمَعُوا طَعَامًا كَثِيرًا فَجَعَلُوهُ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَحَمَلُوهُ عَلَى بَعِيرِهَا وَوَضَعُوا الثَّوْبَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: تَعْلَمِينَ وَاللهِ مَا رَزَئْنَاكِ مِنْ مَائِكِ شَيْئًا وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ سَقَانَا قَالَ: فَأَتَتْ أَهْلَهَا وَقَدِ احْتَبَسَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالُوا: مَا حَبَسَكِ يَا فُلَانَةُ ؟ قَالَتِ: الْعَجَبُ لَقِيَنِي رَجُلَانِ فَذَهَبَا بِي إِلَى هَذَا الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ الصَّابِئُ فَفَعَلَ بِمَائِي كَذَا وَكَذَا فَوَاللهِ إِنَّهُ لَأَسْحَرُ مَا بَيْنَ هَذِهِ وَهَذِهِ لَإِصْبَعَيْهَا الْوُسْطَى وَالسَّبَّابَةِ وَرَفَعَتْهُمَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ يَعْنِي بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَوْ أَنَّهُ لَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَقًّا قَالَ: فَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَغْزُونَ فَيُغِيرُونَ عَلَى مَنْ حَوْلَهَا وَلَا يُغِيرُونَ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَتْ يَوْمًا لِأَهْلِهَا مَا تَرَوْنَ الْقَوْمَ يُغِيرُونَ فَيُغِيرُونَ عَلَى مَنْ حَوْلَكُمْ وَلَا يُغِيرُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَجَاءُوا فَدَخَلُوا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ.
✧ You must use the earth, for it suffices you. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveled, and the people complained to him of thirst, so he dismounted. Then he called a certain man—Abu Raja named him but Awf forgot it—and he called Ali and said: "Go and seek water for us." He said: They set out and met a woman between two water-skins or two leather containers of water on a camel of hers. They said to her: "When did you last see water?" She said: "I saw it yesterday at this time, and our men are away." They said to her: "Come with us." She said: "To where?" They said: "To the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." She said: "To this one who is called the Sabian?" They said: "He is the one you mean, so come to him." Then they brought her to the Prophet ﷺ and told him the story. They made her dismount from her camel, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a vessel and poured into it from the mouths of the two water-skins or containers, then he tied their mouths and loosened the spouts. It was announced among the people: "Give water," and those who wished drank and gave water. The last of that was that he gave the person who had become junub a vessel of water and said: "Go and pour it over yourself." She was standing watching what was done with her water. He said: "By Allah, it was lifted from her when it was lifted, and it seemed to me that it was fuller than when he gave her water." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Gather for her." They gathered for her from among ajwah dates, fine flour, and roasted barley, and they gathered much food, placed it in a cloth, loaded it on her camel, and put the cloth before her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: "Do you know, by Allah, we did not diminish your water at all, but Allah gave us to drink." He said: She came to her people, having been delayed, and they said: "What delayed you, O so-and-so?" She said: "Amazing! Two men met me and took me to this one who is called the Sabian, and he did such and such with my water. By Allah, he is the greatest sorcerer between this and this," indicating her middle and index fingers, raising them to the sky, meaning between heaven and earth, "or he is truly the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said: The people used to raid and attack those around her but did not attack her. One day she said to her people: "Do you not see that the people raid and attack those around you but do not attack you?" So they came and entered Islam.

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Peace be upon you,” and the Prophet ﷺ responded, then said, “Ten good deeds.” Another came and said, “Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah,” and he responded, then said, “Twenty good deeds.” Then another came and said, “Peace be upon you, the mercy of Allah, and His blessings,” and the Prophet ﷺ said, “Thirty good deeds.”

" مَنْ سَمِعَ مِنْكُمْ بِالدَّجَّالِ فَلْيَنْأَ عَنْهُ، فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يَأْتِيهِ وَهُوَ يَحْسَبُ أَنَّهُ مُؤْمِنٌ أَوْ مُسْلِمٌ فَيَتَّبِعُهُ بِمَا يَرَى مَعَهُ مِنَ الشُّبُهَاتِ
✧ Whoever of you hears about the Dajjal should keep away from him, for a man will come to him thinking he is a believer or a Muslim, and will follow him because of the specious things he sees with him.

✧ Modesty is all good. Bushayr b. Ka‘b said, “We find in some of the scriptures that part of it is weakness and part of it is dignity.” He replied, “I am reporting to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and you are telling me about the scriptures?”

قَتَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ هُذَيْلٍ رَجُلًا مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَكَانَ الْهُذَلِيُّ مُتَوَارِيًا فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْفَتْحِ ظَهَرَ الْهُذَلِيُّ فَلَقِيَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ فَذَبَحَهُ كَمَا تُذْبَحُ الشَّاةُ فَقَالَ: أَقَتَلَهُ قَبْلَ النِّدَاءِ أَوْ بَعْدَ النِّدَاءِ ؟ فَقَالُوا: بَعْدَ النِّدَاءِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَوْ كُنْتُ قَاتِلًا مُؤْمِنًا بِكَافِرٍ لَقَتَلْتُهُ فَأَخْرِجُوا عَقْلَهُ، فَأَخْرَجْنَا عَقْلَهُ وَكَانَ أَوَّلَ عَقْلٍ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ
✧ A man from Hudhayl killed a man from Khuza‘ah during the Jahiliyyah, and the Hudhali went into hiding. When the day of the conquest came, the Hudhali emerged. A man from Khuza‘ah met him and slaughtered him as a sheep is slaughtered. He said, “Did he kill him before the call or after the call?” They said, “After the call.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If I were to kill a believer for a disbeliever, I would have killed him. So bring out his blood money.” We brought out his blood money, and it was the first blood money in Islam.

أَنَّ زِيَادًا، بَعَثَ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ مُصَدِّقًا فَجَاءَ وَلَمْ يَجِئْ بِشَيْءٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ: أَيْنَ الْمَالُ ؟ فَقَالَ: أَخَذْنَاهَا كَمَا كُنَّا نَأْخُذُهَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَفَعَلْنَا كَمَا كُنَّا نَفْعَلُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ
✧ Ziyad sent ‘Imran b. Husayn as a collector of zakah, and he returned without bringing anything. He said to him, “Where is the wealth?” He replied, “We took it as we used to take it in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we did as we used to do in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”

جَاءَتْ بَنُو تَمِيمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَبْشِرُوا يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا: إِذْ بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا، فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَاءَ نَاسٌ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ: " اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ " قَالُوا: قَدْ قَبِلْنَاهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ
✧ The Banu Tamim came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, “Rejoice, O Banu Tamim.” They said, “Since you have given us glad tidings, then give us something.” The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed. Then some people from Yemen came, and he said, “Accept the glad tidings, since Banu Tamim did not accept them.” They said, “We accept them, O Messenger of Allah.”

✧ A boy belonging to poor people cut off the ear of a boy belonging to rich people, so his family came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "We are poor people," so he let him go.

" صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ فَقَرَأَ فِيهَا بِـ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: أَيُّكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا - أَوْ أَيُّكُمُ الْقَارِئُ - فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ ": أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: " قَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ بَعْضَكُمْ خَالَجَنِيهَا
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the Zuhr prayer, and in it he recited "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High." When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished, he said, "Which of you was contending with me in it?" or "Which of you was the reciter?" Some of the people said, "I, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "I knew that some of you was contending with me in it."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا، عَضَّ آخَرَ فَانْتَزَعَهَا فَانْتَزَعَتْ ثَنِيَّتَهُ فَرَجَعَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَبْطَلَهَا، وَقَالَ: أَرَادَ أَنْ يَقْضَمَ لَحْمَ أَخِيهِ - أَوْ لَحْمَ أَخِيكَ - كَمَا يَقْضَمُ الْفَحْلُ
✧ A man bit another, and he pulled away, and his front tooth was pulled out. That was referred to the Prophet ﷺ, and he declared it void, saying, "Does one of you want to bite the flesh of his brother like a stallion bites?"

خَيْرُ النَّاسِ - أَوْ خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ - الْقَرْنُ الَّذِي بُعِثْتُ فِيهِمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ يَنْشَأُ قَوْمٌ يَشْهَدُونَ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُونَ وَيَنْذِرُونَ وَلَا يُوفُونَ وَيَفْشُو بَيْنَهُمُ السِّمَنُ
✧ The best of people — or the best of this Ummah — is the generation in which I was sent, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then there will arise a people who testify though they are not asked to testify, who make vows but do not fulfill them, and among whom obesity spreads.

أَنَّ عِمْرَانَ، أَبَقَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ فَجَعَلَ لِلهِ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ قَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ لَيَقْطَعَنَّ يَدَهُ، فَأَرْسَلَنِي أَسْأَلُ سَمُرَةَ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ: كَانَ نَبِيُّنَا ﷺ يَحُثُّنَا عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ وَيَنْهَانَا عَنِ الْمُثْلَةِ فَأَتَيْتُ عِمْرَانَ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ: كَانَ نَبِيُّنَا ﷺ يَحُثُّنَا عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ وَيَنْهَانَا عَنِ الْمُثْلَةِ
✧ Imran had a slave who ran away, and he vowed to Allah that if he got hold of him, he would cut off his hand. He sent me to ask Samura, and I asked him, and he said, "Our Prophet ﷺ used to urge us to give charity and forbid us from mutilation." Then I came to Imran and asked him, and he said, "Our Prophet ﷺ used to urge us to give charity and forbid us from mutilation."

✧ Is one of you not able to do every day the equivalent of Uhud?" He said, "And who is able to do that?" He said, "All of you are able to do it." They said, "What is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Subhan Allah al-'Azim (Glory be to Allah, the Almighty) is greater than Uhud, and La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah) is greater than Uhud, and Al-hamdu lillah (Praise be to Allah) is greater than Uhud."
