    ✧ The imam is a guarantor, and the muezzin is a trustee. O Allah, guide the imams and forgive the muezzins.

    بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ تَخَطَّى رِقَابَ النَّاسِ، حَتَّى جَلَسَ قَرِيبًا مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ: مَا مَنَعَكَ يَا فُلَانُ أَنْ تُجَمِّعَ ؟ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَدْ حَرَصْتُ أَنْ أَضَعَ نَفْسِي بِالْمَكَانِ الَّذِي تَرَى قَالَ: " قَدْ رَأَيْتُكَ تَخَطَّى رِقَابَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَتُؤْذِيهِمْ، مَنْ آذَى مُسْلِمًا فَقَدْ آذَانِي، وَمَنْ آذَانِي فَقَدْ آذَى اللهَ

    ✧ While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering the sermon, a man came stepping over people's necks until he sat close to the Prophet ﷺ. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, he said: "What prevented you, O so-and-so, from attending the Friday prayer?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I was eager to put myself in the place that you see." He said: "I saw you stepping over the necks of the Muslims and harming them. Whoever harms a Muslim has harmed me, and whoever harms me has harmed Allah."

    ✧ Part of happiness is a righteous wife, a good dwelling, and a good mount. And part of misery is a bad wife, a bad mount, and a bad dwelling.

    ✧ It is from a woman's felicity that her betrothal is easy and her dowry is easy. 'Urwa said: And I say: It is from the first of her ill omens that her dowry is great.

    ✧ Whoever enters a horse between two horses while he is confident that it will not be outstripped, that is gambling.

    الْمِقَةُ مِنَ اللهِ، وَالصِّيتُ فِي السَّمَاءِ، فَإِذَا أَحَبَّ اللهُ عَبْدًا نَادَى جِبْرِيلُ: إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ يُحِبُّ فُلَانًا فَأَحِبُّوهُ فَتُوضَعُ لَهُ الْمِقَةُ فِي الْأَرْضِ

    ✧ Love is from Allah, and fame is in the heaven. So when Allah loves a servant, Jibril calls out: Verily, your Lord loves so-and-so, so love him; thus love for him is placed on the earth.

    ✧ Delaying payment by a rich man is an injustice; and if you are referred to a wealthy man, accept the referral.

    الْقُضَاةُ ثَلَاثَةٌ: فَرَجُلٌ قَضَى فَاجْتَهَدَ فَأَصَابَ فَلَهُ الْجَنَّةُ، وَرَجُلٌ قَضَى فَاجْتَهَدَ فَأَخْطَأَ فَلَهُ الْجَنَّةُ، وَرَجُلٌ قَضَى فَجَارَ فَفِي النَّارِ

    ✧ Judges are of three types: a man who judged and strove and was correct—for him is Paradise; a man who judged and strove and erred—for him is Paradise; and a man who judged and was unjust—he is in the Fire.

    ✧ I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution and wipe over his leather socks, not removing them, and pray in them. It was said to him: After the revelation of al-Ma'idah? He said: Yes.

    ✧ The gates of heaven are opened for five things: for the recitation of the Qur'an, for the meeting of the two armies, for the descent of rain, for the supplication of the wronged, and for the call to prayer.

    كَانَ قُدُومُنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لِخَمْسٍ مِنَ الْهِجْرَةِ، خَرَجْنَا مُتَوَصِّلِينَ بِقُرَيْشٍ عَامَ الْأَحْزَابِ، وَأَنَا مَعَ أَخِي الْفَضْلِ، وَمَعَنَا غُلَامُنَا: أَبُو رَافِعٍ، حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى الْعَرْجِ فَعَدَلْنَا فِي طَرِيقِ رُكُوبِهِ، وَأَخَذْنَا فِي تِلْكَ الطَّرِيقِ عَلَى الْجَثْجَاثَةِ، حَتَّى خَرَجْنَا عَلَى بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ، حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ، فَوَجَدْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْخَنْدَقِ، وَأَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ ابْنُ ثَمَانِ سِنِينَ، وَأَخِي ابْنُ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً

    ✧ Our arrival to the Messenger of God ﷺ was five years after the Hijrah. We went out attached to Quraysh in the year of the Confederates, and I was with my brother al-Fadl, and with us was our servant Abu Rafi‘, until we reached al-‘Arj. Then we turned onto his riding route, and we took that route via al-Jathjathah, until we came out upon Banu ‘Amr b. ‘Awf, and we entered Madinah. We found the Messenger of God ﷺ at the Trench, and on that day I was eight years old, and my brother was thirteen years old.

    أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، فَإِذَا قَالُوهَا عَصَمُوا مِنِّي دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهَا، وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

    ✧ I was commanded to fight the people until they say, 'There is no god but God.' When they say it, they protect from me their blood and their property except for its right, and their reckoning is upon God, Mighty and Majestic.

    كَانَ فِي بَعْضِ مَخَارِجِهِ وَمَعَهُ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَلَمْ يَجِدِ الْقَوْمُ مَاءً يَتَوَضَّئُونَ بِهِ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا نَجِدُ مَاءً نَتَوَضَّأُ بِهِ، فَانْطَلَقَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ فَجَاءَ بِقَدَحِ مَاءٍ يَسِيرٍ، فَتَوَضَّأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، ثُمَّ مَدَّ أَصَابِعَهُ عَلَى الْقَدَحِ، فَتَوَضَّأَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ حَتَّى بَلَغُوا مَا يُرِيدُونَ

    ✧ On one of his expeditions, he had with him some of his companions. The time of prayer came, and the people found no water to perform ablution with. They said, 'O Messenger of God, we find no water to perform ablution with.' A man from the group went and brought a vessel with little water. The Messenger of God ﷺ performed ablution, then extended his fingers over the vessel, and all the people performed ablution until they had enough for what they wanted.

    فَقَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ مِنْ فِرَاشِهِ، وَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ قَامَ إِلَى جَارِيَتِهِ مَارِيَةَ، فَقُمْتُ أَلْتَمِسُ الْجِدَارَ، فَوَجَدْتُهُ قَائِمًا يُصَلِّي، فَأَدْخَلْتُ يَدِي فِي شَعَرِهِ لِأَنْظُرَ اغْتَسَلَ أَمْ لَا ؟ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ، قَالَ: أَخَدَكِ شَيْطَانُكِ يَا عَائِشَةُ ؟ قُلْتُ: وَلِي شَيْطَانٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ ". قُلْتُ: " وَلِجَمِيعِ بَنِي آدَمَ ؟ " قَالَ: " نَعَمْ ". قُلْتُ: وَلَكَ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ، فَأَسْلَمَ

    ✧ I missed the Messenger of God ﷺ one night from his bed, and I thought he had gone to his slave woman Mariyah. I got up feeling along the wall, and I found him standing praying. I put my hand into his hair to see whether he had performed a major ablution or not. When he finished, he said, 'Has your devil taken you, O 'A'ishah?' I said, 'Do I have a devil, O Messenger of God?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'And for all the children of Adam?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'And for you?' He said, 'Yes, but God helped me against him, so he submitted.'

    اثْنَانِ لَا تُجَاوِزُ صَلَاتُهُمَا رُءُوسَهُمَا: عَبْدٌ أَبَقَ مِنْ مَوَالِيهِ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْهِمْ، وَامْرَأَةٌ عَصَتْ زَوْجَهَا حَتَّى تَرْجِعَ

    ✧ Two [persons] whose prayer does not go beyond their heads: a slave who runs away from his masters until he returns to them, and a woman who disobeys her husband until she returns [to obedience].

    كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ، فَحَدَّثَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: لَا تَخْذِفُوا؛ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يُصَادُ بِهَا صَيْدٌ، وَلَا يُنْكَأُ بِهِ عَدُوٌّ، وَلَكِنَّهَا تَكْسِرُ السِّنَّ، وَتَفْقَأُ الْعَيْنَ

    ✧ We were sitting with 'Abd Allah b. Mughaffal, and he narrated to us that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Do not throw pebbles [with the fingertips], for no game is taken thereby and no enemy is struck down thereby, but it breaks a tooth and puts out an eye.'

    كُنْتُ مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَأَسْرَعَ السَّيْرَ حَتَّى غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَنَادَيْتُهُ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، الصَّلَاةَ، فَسَارَ حَتَّى اشْتَبَكَتِ النُّجُومُ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ، وَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا عَجِلَ بِهِ أَمْرٌ صَلَّى هَكَذَا

    ✧ I was with Ibn 'Umar on a journey, and he hastened the pace until the sun set. I called to him, 'O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, the prayer!' He continued until the stars appeared, then he dismounted and prayed Maghrib, and prayed 'Isha' as two rak'ahs, then he said, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ, when a matter urged him on, would pray like this.'

    كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ إِلَى جِذْعٍ، فَلَمَّا اتَّخَذَ الْمِنْبَرَ حَنَّ الْجِذْعُ، فَنَزَلَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَاحْتَضَنَهُ، فَسَكَنَ

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to deliver the sermon leaning on a palm trunk. When the pulpit was made, the trunk yearned [with a moaning sound], so the Prophet ﷺ descended and embraced it, and it became silent.

    إِنَّا كُنَّا نَهَيْنَاكُمْ عَنْ زِيَارَةِ الْقُبُورِ، فَزُورُوهَا، فَإِنَّهَا تُذَكِّرُ الْآخِرَةَ، وَنَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ أَنْ تَنْتَبِذُوا فِي الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ، فَانْتَبِذُوا فِيمَا بَدَا لَكُمْ، وَاجْتَنِبُوا كُلَّ مُسْكِرٍ

    ✧ We used to forbid you from visiting graves, but visit them, for they remind of the Hereafter. And I forbade you from steeping [dates] in gourds, green jars, and pitch-coated vessels, so steep in whatever seems good to you, but avoid every intoxicant.

    لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا فَيُصَلِّي الْجُمُعَةَ بِالنَّاسِ، ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنْهَا بُيُوتَهُمْ

    ✧ I was on the point of ordering a man to lead the people in Friday prayer, then burning the houses of those who stay away from it.

    أَنَّ عَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ قَالَ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ: مَا لَكَ لَا تَخْرُجُ مَعَ عَلِيٍّ، أَمَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: يَخْرُجُ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ، يَقْتُلُهُمْ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ "، قَالَ: إِي وَاللهِ، لَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ وَلَكِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ الْعُزْلَةَ حَتَّى أَجِدَ سَيْفًا يَقْطَعُ الْكَافِرَ، وَيَنْبُو عَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِ

    ✧ 'Ammar b. Yasir said to Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas: 'What is wrong with you that you do not go out with 'Ali? Have you not heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: A group will come out of my community who will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through the game; 'Ali b. Abi Talib will kill them. He said it three times.' Sa'd said, 'Yes, by God, I have heard it, but I preferred seclusion until I find a sword that cuts the disbeliever and is kept away from the believer.'

    لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَاعِدًا فِي سُبْحَةٍ حَتَّى كَانَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِعَامٍ وَاحِدٍ أَوِ اثْنَيْنِ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي قَاعِدًا فِي سُبْحَتِهِ، وَيُرَتِّلُ السُّورَةَ حَتَّى تَكُونَ قِرَاءَتُهُ إِيَّاهَا أَطْوَلَ مِنْ أَطْوَلَ مِنْهَا

    ✧ I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sitting during a voluntary prayer until it was one or two years before his death. Then I saw him praying sitting in his voluntary prayer, and he would recite the surah slowly, so that his recitation of it would be longer than [the recitation of] a longer surah.

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ رَكِبَ فَرَسًا، فَصُرِعَ عَنْهُ، فَجُحِشَ شِقُّهُ الْأَيْمَنُ، فَصَلَّى لَنَا يَوْمًا صَلَاةً مِنَ الصَّلَوَاتِ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ، فَصَلَّيْنَا وَرَاءَهُ قُعُودًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ حِينَ سَلَّمَ: إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ، فَإِذَا صَلَّى الْإِمَامُ قَائِمًا فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا، وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ فَارْفَعُوا، وَإِذَا سَجَدَ فَاسْجُدُوا، وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، فَقُولُوا: رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، وَإِذَا صَلَّى قَاعِدًا فَصَلُّوا قُعُودًا أَجْمَعُونَ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ rode a horse and was thrown from it, and his right side was scraped. He prayed one of the prayers with us one day while sitting, and we prayed behind him sitting. Then when he said the salam, he said: “The imam has only been appointed to be followed. When the imam prays standing, pray standing; when he bows, bow; when he rises, rise; when he prostrates, prostrate; and when he says, ‘Allah hears the one who praises Him,’ say, ‘Our Lord, and to You be praise.’ And when he prays sitting, then pray sitting, all of you.”

    مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُهَجِّرُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ، يَعْنِي: الْجُمُعَةَ، كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي يُهْدِي النَّاقَةَ، ثُمَّ الَّذِي عَلَى أَثَرِهِ كَالَّذِي يُهْدِي بَقَرَةً، ثُمَّ الَّذِي عَلَى أَثَرِهِ كَالَّذِي يُهْدِي الْكَبْشَ، ثُمَّ الَّذِي عَلَى أَثَرِهِ كَالَّذِي يُهْدِي الدَّجَاجَةَ، ثُمَّ الَّذِي عَلَى أَثَرِهِ كَالَّذِي يُهْدِي الْبَيْضَةَ

    ✧ Do not undertake a journey except to three mosques: this mosque of mine, the Sacred Mosque, and the Aqsa Mosque. And a woman must not travel for more than two days unless her husband or a mahram is with her. And two days are not to be fasted in the year: the day of Fitr and the day of Adha. And there is no prayer after two prayers: after the Fajr prayer until the sun rises, and after the Asr prayer until the sun sets.

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said to his Companions: “Which of you woke up fasting this morning?” Abu Bakr said: “I did.” He said: “Which of you visited a sick person?” Abu Bakr said: “I did.” He said: “Which of you followed a funeral procession?” Abu Bakr said: “I did.” Then the Prophet ﷺ said: “Congratulations! Whoever completes these, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.”

    ✧ Sa'dan b. Yahya narrated to us, from Hurayth b. Abi Matar, from al-Hakam and Hammad, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad and 'Alqama, from 'A'isha something similar.     ✧ I asked my Lord a question, and I wish I had not asked. I said: O Lord, there were messengers before me, among them those for whom You subjected the winds, and among them those who revived the dead. He said: Did I not find you an orphan and give you refuge? Did I not find you astray and guide you? Did I not expand your chest for you and remove your burden from you? I said: Yes, O Lord.

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ called for water for ablution and performed ablution one time one time, and said: This is the ablution without which God does not accept prayer. Then he performed ablution two times two times, and said: This is the ablution of the nations before you. Then he performed ablution three times three times, and said: This is my ablution and the ablution of the prophets before me.

    ✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ heard the call to prayer, he would say: O God, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, bless Muhammad, Your servant and Messenger, and place us in his intercession on the Day of Resurrection. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Whoever says this at the call to prayer, God will place him in my intercession on the Day of Resurrection.
