al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7535Sahih
✧ I heard 'Ali when a man asked him about a cow, and he said: It may be shared by seven. He said: And he asked him about one with a broken horn. He said: It does not harm you. He said: And he asked him about lameness. He said: If it can reach the place of sacrifice. And he said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to examine the eye and the ear." All of these chains are sound, but they did not rely on Hujayyah b. 'Adiyy as an authority, and he is one of the senior companions of the Commander of the Faithful 'Ali. Sahih.

✧ I came to 'Utbah b. 'Abd al-Sulami and said: O Abu al-Walid, I went out looking for sacrificial animals and I found nothing that pleased me except a sheep with broken teeth, and I disliked it, so what do you say? He said: Why did you not bring it to me? I said: Glory be to Allah! It is permissible for you but not for me? He said: Yes, because you doubt and I do not doubt. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only forbade the mustafarra (whose ear is cut off so that the ear canal is visible), the musta'salah (whose horn is removed), the bahfa' (whose eye is sunken), the mushayya'ah (which does not follow the flock due to emaciation and weakness), and the kasra' (the one with a broken leg)."

✧ We used to appoint over us in military expeditions the companions of Muhammad ﷺ, and we were in Persia. On the Day of Sacrifice, the older animals became expensive for us, so we would take an older animal in exchange for two or three young ones. A man from Muzaynah stood among us and said: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the same thing happened to us on a day like this, so we would take an older animal in exchange for two or three young ones. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, a young sheep (jadha') fulfills what a two-year-old (thaniyy) fulfills." It was narrated by al-Thawri from 'Asim b. Kulayb, and he named the companion in it as Mujashi' b. Mas'ud al-Sulami.

✧ From his grandfather 'Abd Allah b. Hisham, who had met the Prophet ﷺ. His mother Zaynab bt. Humayd took him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was small, and he wiped his head and prayed for him. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sacrifice a single sheep on behalf of all his family." These hadiths all have sound chains regarding the concession of sacrificing a single sheep on behalf of a group whose number cannot be counted, contrary to those who imagine that it only suffices for one person. Reports have been narrated about sacrificing on behalf of the dead. Sahih.

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, regarding "By the Dawn; and the Ten Nights" (Fajr 2): The ten are the ten of ˹days˺ of Adha (Dhu al-Hijjah), the odd is the Day of Arafah, and the even is the Day of Nahr (sacrifice).
al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7518Sahih
✧ Whoever sees the new moon of Dhu al-Hijjah and intends to sacrifice, let him not cut any of his nails or hair until he sacrifices.
al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 7519Abu Dawud silent
✧ When the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah enter, do not take any of your hair or nails until your sacrifice is slaughtered.

✧ Ibn Umar passed by a woman taking from her son's hair during the ten days and said: 'If you delayed it until the Day of Sacrifice, it would be better.'

✧ A man from the 'Atik came and told Sa'id b. al-Musayyab that Yahya b. Ya'mar said: 'Whoever buys a sacrificial animal during the ten days, let him not cut his hair or nails.' Sa'id said: Yes. I said: From whom, O Abu Muhammad? He said: From the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The greatest day with Allah is the Day of Sacrifice, then the Day of Rest.' And five or six sacrificial camels were brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and they began to draw near, vying for which of them he would start with. When their sides fell, he said a light word I did not understand. I asked the person next to him, and he said: He said: 'Whoever wishes may take a piece.'

✧ On the Day of Sacrifice, no deed is more beloved to Allah, the Exalted, than the shedding of blood. It will come on the Day of Resurrection with its horns, hairs, and hooves. The blood falls from Allah, the Exalted, to a place before it falls to the ground, so be pleased with it.

✧ O Fatimah, rise to your sacrifice and witness it, for with the first drop of its blood that falls, every sin you have committed will be forgiven. And say: 'Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.' Imran said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, this is for you and your household specifically; is that for you, or for the Muslims generally? He said: 'No, rather for the Muslims generally.'

Know, O Muhammad, that a young sheep (jadh') is better than the best goat; a young sheep is better than the best cow; and a young sheep is better than the best camel. If Allah knew of a better sacrifice, He would have ransomed Abraham ﷺ with it.

'Azib has a sound chain, but they did not include it. Muslim, may Allah Almighty have mercy on him, only included the hadith of Sulayman b. 'Abd al-Rahman from 'Ubayd b. Fayruz from al-Bara', and that is among the criticisms leveled at Muslim, may Allah have mercy on him, due to the disagreement of the transmitters about it. The most sound of them is the hadith of Yahya b. Abi Kathir from Abu Salamah. Ayyub b. Suwayd was deemed weak by Ahmad.
