أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ الْجَلَّابُ بِهَمْدَانَ ثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بُرْدٍ الْأَنْطَاكِيُّ ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحُنَيْنِيُّ ثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
نَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «يَا جِبْرِيلُ كَيْفَ رَأَيْتَ عِيدَنَا؟» فَقَالَ لَقَدْ تَبَاهَى بِهِ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ اعْلَمْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَنَّ الْجَذَعَ مِنَ الضَّأْنِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّيِّدِ مِنَ الْمَعْزِ وَأَنَّ الْجَذَعَ مِنَ الضَّأْنِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّيِّدِ مِنَ الْبَقَرِ وَأَنَّ الْجَذَعَ مِنَ الضَّأْنِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّيِّدِ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ وَلَوْ عَلِمَ اللَّهُ ذَبْحًا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ فَدَى بِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ

✧ Gabriel ﷺ descended to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'O Gabriel, how did you see our festival?' He said: The people of heaven boasted about it. Know, O Muhammad, that a young sheep (jadh') is better than the best goat; a young sheep is better than the best cow; and a young sheep is better than the best camel. If Allah knew of a better sacrifice, He would have ransomed Abraham ﷺ with it.
