رَأَى أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ رَجُلًا فَأَعْجَبَهُ هَيْئَتُهُ، فَقَالَ: مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ ؟ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: مِمَّنْ أَنْعَمَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ: فَكُلُّنَا مِمَّنْ أَنْعَمَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ، مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ ؟ قَالَ: مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ، قَالَ: كُلُّنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ، مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ ؟ قَالَ: مِنَ الْنَبْطِ، قَالَ: تَنَحَّ عَنِّي، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: قَتَلَةُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ، وَأَعْوَانُ الظَّلَمَةِ، فَإِذَا اتَّخَذُوا الرِّبَاعَ وَشَيَّدُوا الْبُنْيَانَ فَالْهَرَبَ الْهَرَبَ
✧ Abu Hurayrah saw a man whose appearance pleased him, so he said, 'From whom are you?' The man said, 'From those upon whom God has bestowed favor.' He said, 'All of us are from those upon whom God has bestowed favor. From whom are you?' He said, 'From the people of the earth.' He said, 'All of us are from the people of the earth. From whom are you?' He said, 'From the Nabat.' He said, 'Get away from me. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: They are the killers of the prophets and the helpers of the oppressors. When they acquire estates and build lofty buildings, then flee, flee.'

مَنْ قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى أَيِّ حَرْفٍ كَانَ، كَتَبَ اللهُ لَهُ عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ، وَمَحَا عَنْهُ عَشْرَ سَيِّئَاتٍ، وَرَفَعَ لَهُ عَشْرَ دَرَجَاتٍ، وَمَنْ قَرَأَ فَأَعْرَبَ بَعْضًا، وَلَحَنَ بَعْضًا كُتِبَ لَهُ عِشْرُونَ حَسَنَةً، وَمُحِيَ عَنْهُ عِشْرُونَ سَيِّئَةً، وَرُفِعَ لَهُ عِشْرُونَ دَرَجَةً، وَمَنْ قَرَأَ فَأَعْرَبَ كُلَّهُ كُتِبَ لَهُ أَرْبَعُونَ حَسَنَةً، وَمُحِيَ عَنْهُ أَرْبَعُونَ سَيِّئَةً، وَرُفِعَ لَهُ أَرْبَعُونَ دَرَجَةً
✧ Whoever recites the Qur'an in any mode he can, Allah will record for him ten good deeds, erase from him ten bad deeds, and raise him ten degrees. And whoever recites and pronounces some of it correctly but errs in some, twenty good deeds are recorded for him, twenty bad deeds are erased from him, and he is raised twenty degrees. And whoever recites and pronounces all of it correctly, forty good deeds are recorded for him, forty bad deeds are erased from him, and he is raised forty degrees.

كَانَ يُرَغِّبُ النَّاسَ فِي قِيَامِ رَمَضَانَ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَأْمُرَهُمْ بِعَزِيمَةِ أَمْرٍ فِيهِ، فَيَقُولُ: مَنْ قَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ ". وَتُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَالْأَمْرُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ، كَانَ الْأَمْرُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ خِلَافَةَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَصَدْرًا مِنْ خِلَافَةِ عُمَرَ
✧ He used to encourage the people to pray at night during Ramadan without commanding them to do it as an obligatory matter. He would say: "Whoever prays at night during Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, his past sins will be forgiven." And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away while the matter was thus, and the matter remained thus during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and the beginning of the caliphate of Umar.

أَوْصَانِي خَلِيلِي ﷺ فِي أَشْيَاءَ لَا أَدَعُهَا حَتَّى أَمُوتَ: أَوْصَانِي بِرَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ قَالَ: " فِيهِمَا رَغَائِبُ الدَّهْرِ "، وَرَكْعَتَيِ الضُّحَى، فَإِنَّهَا صَلَاةُ الْأَوَّابِينَ، وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ، وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَهَا، وَقَبْلَ الْعَصْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَبَعْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَبَعْدَ الْعِشَاءِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَبِصِيَامِ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ قَالَ: " هُوَ صَوْمُ الدَّهْرِ "، وَأَنْ لَا أَبِيتَ إِلَّا عَلَى وِتْرٍ "، وَقَالَ لِي: " يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، صَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَوَّلَ النَّهَارِ أَضْمَنُ لَكَ آخِرَهُ
✧ My close friend ﷺ advised me regarding things I will not abandon until I die: He advised me to pray the two rak'ahs of Fajr, saying: "In them are the desires of the age," and the two rak'ahs of Duha, for it is the prayer of the oft-returning, and two rak'ahs before Zuhr, and two rak'ahs after it, and two rak'ahs before Asr, and two rak'ahs after Maghrib, and two rak'ahs after Isha, and to fast three days of every month, saying: "It is the fasting of the age," and to not sleep except upon Witr. And he said to me: "O Abu Hurayrah, pray two rak'ahs at the beginning of the day and I will guarantee for you its end."

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a military expedition toward Najd, and I was in it. Our shares of the spoils reached twelve camels each, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave each of us an extra camel as a bonus.

أَنَّهُ، أَتَى عَائِشَةَ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْهَا، فَكَرِهَتْ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَالَتْ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، جَاءَنِي أَبُو قُعَيْسٍ، فَأَبَيْتُ أَنْ آذَنَ لَهُ، قَالَ: لِيَدْخُلْ عَلَيْكِ عَمُّكِ. وَكَانَ أَبُو قُعَيْسٍ أَخَا ظِئْرِ عَائِشَةَ ".
✧ He came to Aisha and asked permission to enter, and she disliked to grant him permission. When the Prophet ﷺ came, she said: 'O Prophet of God, Abu Qu'ays came to me and I refused to grant him permission.' He said: 'Let your uncle enter upon you.' Abu Qu'ays was the brother of Aisha's foster-mother.

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ مَاذَا اسْتَقْبَلَكُمْ ؟ وَمَاذَا تَسْتَقْبِلُونَ ؟ " ثَلَاثًا قَالَ: فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: أَوَحْيٌ نَزَلَ ؟ أَوَعْدٌ حَضَرَ ؟ قَالَ: فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ اللهَ يَغْفِرُ فِي أَوَّلِ لَيْلَةٍ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ لِكُلِّ أَهْلِ هَذِهِ الْقِبْلَةِ ". قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ - يَهُزُّ رَأْسَهُ -: بَخٍ بَخٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " كَأَنَّهُ ضَاقَ صَدْرُكَ ؟ " فَقَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنْ ذَكَرْتُ الْمُنَافِقَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " الْمُنَافِقُ كَافِرٌ، وَلَيْسَ لِكَافِرٍ فِي ذَلِكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ
✧ Glory be to God! What has come upon you, and what are you facing?' three times. He said: Umar b. al-Khattab said: 'Has revelation come down? Has a promise arrived?' He said: 'God forgives on the first night of the month of Ramadan all the people of this qiblah.' Then a man in front of him, shaking his head, said: 'Bakh, bakh!' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'It is as if your chest has become tight?' He said: 'No, but I remembered the hypocrite.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'The hypocrite is a disbeliever, and the disbeliever has no share in that.'

✧ We entered upon Abdullah b. al-Harith b. Jaz' al-Zubaydi on a Friday, and he called for a basin and urinated into it, and said to the slave girl: 'Cover me,' so she covered him. Then he said: 'I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ forbid any of you from urinating while facing the qiblah.'

كُنَّا بِالْمِرْبَدِ، فَأَتَانَا أَعْرَابِيٌّ، وَمَعَهُ قِطْعَةُ أَدِيمٍ، فَقَالَ: انْظُرُوا مَا فِيهَا، فَإِذَا كِتَابٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى بَنِي زُهَيْرِ بْنِ أُقَيْشٍ - حَيٍّ مِنْ عُكْلٍ -: إِنَّكُمْ إِنْ أَقَمْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ، وَآتَيْتُمُ الزَّكَاةَ، وَأَدَّيْتُمْ خُمُسَ مَا غَنِمْتُمْ، وَسَهْمَ النَّبِيِّ، وَالصَّفِيِّ، فَأَنْتُمْ آمِنُونَ بِأَمَانِ اللهِ "، فَقُلْتُ: أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: " صَوْمُ شَهْرِ الصَّبْرِ، وَثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ، يُذْهِبْنَ وَغَرَ الصَّدْرِ ". فَقُلْنَا: أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: أُرَاكُمْ تَتَّهِمُونِي، فَأَخَذَ الصَّحِيفَةَ، وَانْصَاعَ فَسَأَلْنَا عَنْهُ، فَقِيلَ: هَذَا النَّمِرُ بْنُ تَوْلَبٍ الْعُكْلِيُّ
✧ We were at al-Mirbad when a Bedouin came to us with a piece of leather and said: 'Look at what is in it.' It was a letter from the Messenger of God ﷺ to the Banu Zuhayr b. Uqaysh, a clan of Ukul: 'If you establish prayer, give zakat, and pay the fifth of what you gain as spoils, and the Prophet's share and the select portion, then you are secure with God's protection.' I said: 'Did you hear this from the Messenger of God ﷺ?' He said: 'I heard him say: "Fasting the month of patience and three days of every month removes the rancor of the chest."' We said: 'Did you hear this from the Messenger of God ﷺ?' He said: 'I see you suspect me.' He took the scroll and left quickly. We asked about him and were told: 'This is al-Namir b. Tawlab al-Ukli.'

✧ The companions of the Prophet ﷺ hastened in killing until their killing reached children, so the Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Every newborn is born upon the natural disposition until his parents make him a Jew or a Christian.'

كَانَتْ أُمُّ الْحَرِيرِ، إِذَا مَاتَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهَا، فَقِيلَ لَهَا: أُمَّ الْحَرِيرِ، مَا لَنَا نَرَاكِ إِذَا مَاتَ الرَّجُلُ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْكِ ؟ قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ مَوْلَايَ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مِنِ اقْتِرَابِ السَّاعَةِ هَلَاكُ الْعَرَبِ
✧ Umm al-Harir, when a man of the Arabs died, it would be hard on her. It was said to her: 'Umm al-Harir, why do we see that when a man of the Arabs dies it is hard on you?' She said: 'I heard my master say: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "Part of the approach of the Hour is the destruction of the Arabs."'

✧ Whoever is afflicted by a calamity and, when remembering it, says: 'We belong to Allah and to Him we return,' Allah renews for him the reward of that calamity equivalent to what it was on the day it struck him.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting in the mosque when a Bedouin entered and sat down to urinate. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Stop, stop!' But the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Do not interrupt him.' Then he called him and said: 'These mosques are not suitable for any impurity — or as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said — they are only for reciting the Quran, prayer, and remembrance of Allah.' Then he called for a bucket of water and poured it over the urine.

لَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ أَقْطَعَ الدُّورَ، وَأَقْطَعَ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فِيمَنْ أَقْطَعَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، نَكِّبْهُ عَنَّا، قَالَ: " فَلِمَ بَعَثَنِي اللهُ إِذًا ؟ إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يُقَدِّسُ أُمَّةً لَا يُعْطُونَ الضَّعِيفَ مِنْهُمْ حَقَّهُ
✧ When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah, he allotted the houses as fiefs and allotted to Ibn Mas'ud among those he allotted. His Companions said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, turn him away from us.' He said: 'Then why did Allah send me? Allah does not sanctify a nation that does not give the weak among them their right.'

مَرَّ عُمَرُ بِمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَهُوَ يَبْكِي، فَقَالَ: مَا يُبْكِيكَ ؟ قَالَ: حَدِيثٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ صَاحِبِ هَذَا الْقَبْرِ - يَعْنِي: النَّبِيَّ ﷺ - سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ أَدْنَى الرِّيَاءِ شِرْكٌ، [ وَأَحَبَّ الْعَبِيدِ إِلَى اللهِ الْأَتْقِيَاءُ الْأَخْفِيَاءُ ]، الَّذِينَ [ إِذَا غَابُوا لَمْ يُفْتَقَدُوا، وَإِذَا ] شَهِدُوا لَمْ [ يُعْرَفُوا ] أُولَئِكَ أَئِمَّةُ الْهُدَى، وَمَصَابِيحُ الْعِلْمِ
✧ Umar passed by Mu'adh b. Jabal while he was weeping and said: 'What makes you weep?' He said: 'A hadith I heard from the occupant of this grave — meaning the Prophet ﷺ — I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The least amount of showing off is shirk, and the most beloved servants to Allah are the pious, hidden ones who, when they are absent, are not missed, and when they are present, they are not recognized. Those are the leaders of guidance and the lamps of knowledge.'

✧ He used to pray in the place where al-Hasan and al-Husayn urinated, and he said: 'When a servant prostrates to Allah with one prostration, Allah purifies the place of his prostration to seven earths.'

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ: مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُحْكَمَاتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَابِهَاتٌ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ ابْتِغَاءَ الْفِتْنَةِ وَابْتِغَاءَ تَأْوِيلِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِذَا رَأَيْتَ الْمُجَادِلِينَ الَّذِينَ يُجَادِلُونَ فِيهِ فَإِنَّهُمْ هُمْ
✧ When it was revealed: 'In it are verses that are precise — they are the foundation of the Book — and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation, they follow the unspecific part, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation,' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If you see the quarrelsome ones who dispute about it, they are the ones meant.'

✧ A man called Abu Ma'qil came to me and said, "Write." He wrote: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful." He said: I heard Abu Hurayrah say: My beloved Abu al-Qasim ﷺ enjoined upon me fasting three days of every month, sleeping after performing Witr, and glorifying Allah in the forenoon (Duha).
