Sunan ad-Darimi 2671Sahih
أَنَّ أَبَا مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَى عُمَرَ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَ مَا رَجَعَكَ؟ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَ الْمُسْتَأْذِنُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنْ أُذِنَ لَهُ وَإِلَّا فَلْيَرْجِعْ فَقَالَ لَتَأْتِيَنَّ بِمَنْ يَشْهَدُ مَعَكَ أَوْ لَأَفْعَلَنَّ وَلَأَفْعَلَنَّ قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ وأَتَانَا وَأَنَا فِي قَوْمٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُوَ فَزِعٌ مِنْ وَعِيدِ عُمَرَ إِيَّاهُ فَقَامَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ أَنْشُدُ اللَّهَ مِنْكُمْ رَجُلًا سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَّا شَهِدَ لِي بِهِ قَالَ فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي فَقُلْتُ أَخْبِرْهُ أَنِّي مَعَكَ عَلَى هَذَا وَقَالَ ذَاكَ آخَرُونَ فَسُرِّيَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى
✧ Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari sought permission from Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, three times, but he was not granted permission. So he returned and said, "What made you come back?" Abu Musa replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying, 'If someone seeks permission three times and is not granted it, then let them return.' So Umar said, 'Bring someone to testify with you or I will do something [harsh].' Abu Sa'eed said, 'Umar called me while I was in the mosque, fearing Umar's anger towards me. He stood up and said, 'I swear by Allah, among you there is a man who heard this from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, except that he did not testify to it.' I lifted my head and said, 'Let me inform Umar that I am with you on this.' Others also said the same, and Abu Musa's problem was resolved."

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَضَرَبْتُ بَابَهُ فَقَالَ «مَنْ ذَا؟» فَقُلْتُ أَنَا فقَالَ «أَنَا؟ أَنَا؟» فَكَرِهَ ذَاكَ
✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and knocked on his door. He said, “Who is it?” I said, “Me.” He said, “Me? Me?” and he disliked that.

«نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَطْرُقَ الرَّجُلُ أَهْلَهُ لَيْلًا أَوْ يُخَوِّنَهُمْ أَوْ يَلْتَمِسَ عَثَرَاتِهِمْ» قَالَ سُفْيَانُ قَوْلُهُ أَوْ يُخَوِّنَهُمْ أَوْ يَلْتَمِسَ عَثَرَاتِهِمْ مَا أَدْرِي شَيْءٌ قَالَهُ مُحَارِبٌ أَوْ شَيْءٌ هُوَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ
✧ “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade a man to come to his family at night unexpectedly, or to suspect them, or to seek out their faults.” Sufyan said: “His saying, ‘or to suspect them, or to seek out their faults’—I do not know whether it is something Muharib said or something in the hadith.”

لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ اسْتَشْرَفَهُ النَّاسُ فَقَالُوا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ فِيمَنْ خَرَجَ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ وَجْهَهُ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ وَجْهَهُ لَيْسَ بِوَجْهِ كَذَّابٍ فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ وَصِلُوا الْأَرْحَامَ وَصَلُّوا وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلَامٍ»
✧ When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Medina, the people gathered around and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived." I went out among those who went out, and when I saw his face, I recognized that his face is not the face of a liar. The first thing I heard him say was, "O people, spread peace, feed the hungry, maintain family ties, and pray while the people are asleep. You shall enter Paradise in peace."
Sunan ad-Darimi 2675Hasan
لِلْمُسْلِمِ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِ سِتٌّ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ إِذَا لَقِيَهُ وَيُشَمِّتُهُ إِذَا عَطَسَ وَيَعُودُهُ إِذَا مَرِضَ وَيُجِيبُهُ إِذَا دَعَاهُ وَيَشْهَدُهُ إِذَا تُوُفِّيَ وَيُحِبُّ لَهُ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ وَيَنْصَحُ لَهُ بِالْغَيْبِ
✧ A Muslim has six rights over another Muslim: he greets him with peace when he meets him, responds to his sneeze, visits him when he is ill, answers his invitation, attends his funeral, loves for him what he loves for himself, and advises him sincerely in his absence.
Sunan ad-Darimi 2676Sahih
«يُسَلِّمُ الرَّاكِبُ عَلَى الْمَاشِي وَالْقَائِمُ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ»
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The horseman gives Salam to the walking person, the walking person to the one standing and the few to the many." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2705)
Sunan ad-Darimi 2677Accepted
إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ أَحَدُهُمْ فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ قُلْ عَلَيْكَ
✧ When one of the Jews greets, he only says, “As-samu ‘alayk” (death be upon you), so say, “Upon you.”

كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ فَمَرَّ بِصِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَحَدَّثَ ثَابِتٌ أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ أَنَسٍ فَمَرَّ بِصِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَحَدَّثَ أَنَسٌ أَنَّهُ «كَانَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَمَرَّ بِصِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ»
✧ I was walking with Thabit al-Bunani, and he passed by some boys and greeted them. Thabit narrated that he was with Anas, and he passed by some boys and greeted them, and Anas narrated that he was with the Prophet ﷺ, and he passed by some boys and greeted them.
Sunan ad-Darimi 2679Hasan
أَنَّهَا بَيْنَا هِيَ فِي نِسْوَةٍ مَرَّ عَلَيْهِنَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِنَّ»
✧ While she was among some women, the Prophet ﷺ passed by them and greeted them.

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا عَائِشُ هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكِ السَّلَامَ» قَالَتْ وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ قَالَتْ وَهُوَ يَرَى مَا لَا أَرَى
✧ Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O Aish, this is Jibril reciting peace to you.” She said, “And upon him be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.” She said, “And he sees what I do not see.”

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُهُ حِينَ قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ فَكُنْتُ أَوَّلَ مَنْ حَيَّا بِتَحِيَّةِ الْإِسْلَامِ قَالَ «عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ؟» قَالَ قُلْتُ مِنْ غِفَارٍ قَالَ فَأَهْوَى بِيَدِهِ قُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي كَرِهَ أَنِّي انْتَمَيْتُ إِلَى غِفَارٍ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed, and I came to him when he finished his prayer, and I was the first to greet with the greeting of Islam. He said, “Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah. From whom are you?” He said: I said, “From Ghifar.” He said, and he lowered his hand. I said to myself, “He disliked that I attributed myself to Ghifar.”

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ «عَشْرٌ» ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ فََقَالَ «عِشْرُونَ» ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ «ثَلَاثُونَ»
✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Peace be upon you,” so he returned the greeting and said, “Ten.” Then a man came and greeted, saying, “Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah,” so he returned the greeting and said, “Twenty.” Then a man came and greeted, saying, “Peace be upon you, the mercy of Allah, and His blessings,” so he returned the greeting and said, “Thirty.”
Sunan ad-Darimi 2683Sahih
أَنَّهُ «سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ فَلَمَّا تَوَضَّأَ رَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ»
✧ He greeted the Prophet ﷺ while he was urinating, so he did not return the greeting to him until he had performed ablution. When he had performed ablution, he returned it to him.

«لَا تَدْخُلُوا عَلَى النِّسَاءِ» قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْحَمْوُ قَالَ الْحَمْوُ الْمَوْتُ
✧ “Do not enter upon women.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, what about the brother-in-law?” He said, “The brother-in-law is death.”

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ نَظْرَةِ الْفَجْأَةِ؟ فَقَالَ «اصْرِفْ بَصَرَكَ»
✧ I asked the Prophet ﷺ about the sudden glance? He said, “Avert your gaze.”
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنْ ذَيْلِ الْمَرْأَةِ فَقَالَ «شِبْرًا» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِذَنْ تَبْدُوَ أَقْدَامُهُنَّ؟ قَالَ «قَدْرَ ذِرَاعٍ لَا يَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ» قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ
✧ From Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, she said: The Prophet ﷺ was asked about a woman's hem, so he said, “A handspan.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, then their feet will show?” He said, “The length of a forearm, not to exceed that.” Abdullah said: People narrate it from Nafi' from Sulayman b. Yasar.
خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ أَمَا لَكُنَّ فِي الْفِضَّةِ مَا تَحَلَّيْنَ بِهِ؟ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَيْسَتْ مِنْكُنَّ امْرَأَةٌ تَحَلَّى الذَّهَبَ فَتُظْهِرَهُ إِلَّا عُذِّبَتْ بِهِ»
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said, “O assembly of women, do you not have silver with which to adorn yourselves? Indeed, there is no woman among you who adorns herself with gold and displays it except that she will be punished with it.”

«أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ اسْتَعْطَرَتْ ثُمَّ خَرَجَتْ لِيُوجَدَ رِيحُهَا فَهِيَ زَانِيَةٌ وَكُلُّ عَيْنٍ زَانِيَةٌ»
✧ “Any woman who perfumes herself and then goes out so that her scent is noticed is an adulteress, and every eye is adulterous.”

«لَعَنَ اللَّهُ الْوَاشِمَاتِ وَالْمُسْتَوْشِمَاتِ وَالْمُتَنَمِّصَاتِ وَالْمُتَفَلِّجَاتِ لِلْحُسْنِ الْمُغَيِّرَاتِ خَلْقَ اللَّهِ» فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا أُمُّ يَعْقُوبَ فَجَاءَتْ فَقَالَتْ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ لَعَنْتَ كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ؟ فَقَالَ وَمَا لِي لَا أَلْعَنُ مَنْ لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ؟ فَقَالَتْ لَقَدْ قَرَأْتُ مَا بَيْنَ اللَّوْحَيْنِ فَمَا وَجَدْتُ فِيهِ مَا تَقُولُ قَالَ لَئِنْ كُنْتِ قَرَأْتِيهِ لَقَدْ وَجَدْتِيهِ أَمَا قَرَأْتِ {مَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ} [الحشر 7]؟ فَقَالَتْ بَلَى قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ نَهَى عَنْهُ فَقَالَتْ فَإِنِّي أَرَى أَهْلَكَ يَفْعَلُونَهُ؟ قَالَ فَادْخُلِي فَانْظُرِي فَدَخَلَتْ فَنَظَرَتْ فَلَمْ تَرَ مِنْ حَاجَتِهَا شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَتْ كَذَلِكِ مَا جَامَعْتُهَا
✧ “Allah has cursed the women who tattoo and those who ask to be tattooed, and the women who pluck facial hair, and those who ask for it to be done, and the women who file gaps between their teeth for beauty, altering the creation of Allah.” This reached a woman from Banu Asad called Umm Ya'qub, so she came and said, “It has reached me that you cursed such-and-such and such-and-such?” He said, “Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed and whom are in the Book of Allah?” She said, “I have read what is between the two covers and I did not find in it what you say.” He said, “If you have read it, you have certainly found it. Have you not read: ‘Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you from, abstain from it, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is severe in punishment’ [al-Hashr 7]?” She said, “Yes.” He said, “For he did forbid it.” She said, “But I see your family doing it?” He said, “Go in and look.” So she went in and looked, and she did not see any of what she needed. He said, “If she were like that, I would not have had intercourse with her.”
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ عَشْرِ خِصَالٍ مُكَامَعَةِ الرَّجُلِ الرَّجُلَ فِي شِعَارٍ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُمَا شَيْءٌ وَمُكَامَعَةِ الْمَرْأَةِ الْمَرْأَةَ فِي شِعَارٍ وَاحِدٍ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُمَا شَيْءٌ وَالنَّتْفِ وَالْوَشْمِ وَالنُّهْبَةِ وَرُكُوبِ النُّمُورِ وَاتِّخَاذِ الدِّيبَاجِ هَا هُنَا عَلَى الْعَاتِقَيْنِ وَفِي أَسْفَلِ الثِّيَابِ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ أَبُو عَامِرٍ شَيْخٌ لَهُمْ وَالْمُكَامَعَةُ الْمُضَاجَعَةُ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to forbid ten characteristics: a man lying with a man in a single undergarment with nothing between them, and a woman lying with a woman in a single undergarment with nothing between them, and plucking hair, and tattooing, and plundering, and riding on leopard skins, and wearing brocade here on the two shoulders and on the lower part of the garments. Abdullah said: Abu Amir is a shaykh of theirs, and mukama'ah means lying together.
Sunan ad-Darimi 2691Sahih
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَعَنَ الْمُخَنَّثِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالْمُتَرَجِّلَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَقَالَ «أَخْرِجُوهُمْ مِنْ بُيُوتِكُمْ» قَالَ «فَأَخْرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فُلَانًا وَأَخْرَجَ عُمَرُ فُلَانًا أَوْ فُلَانَةَ»
✧ The Prophet ﷺ cursed effeminate men and masculine women, and he said, “Expel them from your houses.” He said, “So the Prophet ﷺ expelled so-and-so, and Umar expelled so-and-so or so-and-so (a woman).”

جَلَسَ عِنْدَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَفَخِذِي مُنْكَشِفَةٌ فَقَالَ «خَمِّرْ عَلَيْكَ أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ الْفَخِذَ عَوْرَةٌ»
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat with us while my thigh was uncovered. He said, “Cover yourself. Do you not know that the thigh is private?”

دَخَلَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ نِسْوَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ حِمْصٍ يَسْتَفْتِينَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَعَلَّكُنَّ مِنَ النِّسْوَةِ اللَّاتِي يَدْخُلْنَ الْحَمَّامَاتِ؟ قُلْنَ نَعَمْ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنَ امْرَأَةٍ تَضَعُ ثِيَابَهَا فِي غَيْرِ بَيْتِ زَوْجِهَا إِلَّا هَتَكَتْ مَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ اللَّهِ ﷻ»
✧ Some women from the people of Hims entered upon Aishah to ask her for a religious ruling. She said, “Perhaps you are among the women who enter bathhouses?” They said, “Yes.” She said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘There is no woman who takes off her clothes in other than her husband’s house except that she tears apart what is between her and Allah ﷻ.’”

قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ
✧ Abu Muhammad said: Ubayd Allah narrated to us from Isra'il from Mansur from Salim from Abu al-Malih from Aisha this hadith.

لَا يُقِيمُ الرَّجُلُ يَعْنِي أَخَاهُ مِنْ مَجْلِسِهِ ثُمَّ يَقْعُدُ فِيهِ وَلَكِنْ تَفَسَّحُوا وَتَوَسَّعُوا
✧ A man should not make his brother get up from his seat and then sit in it, but make room and spread out.
Sunan ad-Darimi 2696Sahih
«إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَوِ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ مَجْلِسِهِ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِهِ»
✧ "When one of you—or a man—gets up from his seat and then returns to it, he is more entitled to it."
Sunan ad-Darimi 2697Sahih
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِنَاسٍ جُلُوسٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ «إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلِينَ فَاهْدُوا السَّبِيلَ وَأَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ وَأَعِينُوا الْمَظْلُومَ»
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by some people of the Ansar sitting and said, "If you must do so, then guide the way, spread the salam, and help the oppressed."

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مُسْتَلْقِيًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَاضِعًا إِحْدَى رِجْلَيْهِ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى»
✧ I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ lying on his back in the mosque with one of his legs over the other.

«إِذَا كُنْتُمْ ثَلَاثَةً فَلَا يَتَنَاجَى اثْنَانِ دُونَ صَاحِبِهِمَا فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ يُحْزِنُهُ»
✧ "When you are three, let not two converse privately without their companion, for that grieves him."

لَمَّا كَانَ بِأَخَرَةٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَقُومَ قَالَ «سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ» فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَتَقُولُ الْآنَ كَلَامًا مَا كُنْتَ تَقُولُهُ فِيمَا خَلَا فَقَالَ «هَذَا كَفَّارَةٌ لِمَا يَكُونُ فِي الْمَجَالِسِ»
✧ Toward the end of his life, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat in a gathering and wanted to get up, he would say, "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, you now say words you did not say before." He said, "This is an atonement for what occurs in gatherings."
الْعَاطِسُ يَقُولُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ وَيَقُولُ الَّذِي يُشَمِّتُهُ يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ
✧ The sneezer says: Al-hamdu lillah 'ala kulli hal (Praise be to Allah in every situation). The one who responds to him says: Yarhamukum Allah (May Allah have mercy on you). And he replies to him: Yahdikum Allah wa yuslihu balakum (May Allah guide you and set your affairs right).

✧ Two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, and he responded to one of them and did not respond to the other. It was said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, you responded to this one and did not respond to the other?" He said, "This one praised Allah, and that one did not praise Allah."

✧ We had a garment with images on it, and I placed it in front of the Prophet ﷺ while he was praying, and he forbade me—or she said, he disliked it. She said, "So I made it into cushions."

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a journey, he would be met by me and al-Hasan or al-Husayn. He said: “I think he said al-Hasan.” He carried me in front of him and al-Hasan behind him until we entered Madinah, and we were on the mount that the Prophet ﷺ was riding.
أَتَيْنَا قَيْسَ بْنَ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ فِي بَيْتِهِ فَأَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنِ لِلصَّلَاةِ وَقُلْنَا لِقَيْسٍ قُمْ فَصَلِّ لَنَا فَقَالَ لَمْ أَكُنْ لِأُصَلِّيَ بِقَوْمٍ لَسْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِأَمِيرٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ لَيْسَ بِدُونِهِ يُقَالُ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ الْغَسِيلِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الرَّجُلُ أَحَقُّ بِصَدْرِ دَابَّتِهِ وَصَدْرِ فِرَاشِهِ وَأَنْ يَؤُمَّ فِي رَحْلِهِ» فقَالَ َ قَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عِنْدَ ذَاكَ يَا فُلَانُ لِمَوْلًى لَهُ قُمْ فَصَلِّ لَهُمْ
✧ We came to Qays b. Saʿd b. ʿUbādah in his house. The muezzin called for prayer and we said to Qays, “Stand and lead us in prayer.” He said, “I will not lead a people over whom I am not in command.” A man not inferior to him, called ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥanẓalah b. al-Ghasīl, said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A man is more entitled to the chest of his mount and the chest of his bed, and to lead prayer in his own dwelling.” So Qays b. Saʿd said at that, “O so-and-so,” to a client of his, “stand and pray with them.”

✧ Travel is a piece of punishment: it denies one of you his sleep, food, and drink. So when one of you has fulfilled his need from his journey, let him hasten his return to his family.

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, “O Prophet of Allah, I intend to travel.” He said to him, “When?” He said, “Tomorrow, if Allah wills.” He came to him, took his hand, and said to him, “In Allah’s keeping and in His protection. May Allah provide you with piety, forgive you your sin, and direct you to good wherever you aim or wherever you turn.”

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveled and mounted his riding camel, he would say “Allāhu akbar” three times and say: “Glory be to the One Who subjected this to us, for we could not have subdued it, and to our Lord we will return” [43:14]. O Allah, I ask You in this journey of mine for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make the journey easy for us and fold up for us the distance of the land. O Allah, You are the Companion in travel and the Deputy among the family. O Allah, accompany us in our journey and be our deputy among our family with good.”

✧ The Prophet ﷺ was on a journey and heard a woman cursing, so he said, "What is this?" They replied, "So-and-so has cursed her riding camel." He said, "Unload her, for she is cursed." He said: So they unloaded her. 'Imran said, "It is as if I am looking at her, a grayish she-camel."

✧ If any of you stops at a place and says, 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,' nothing will harm him at that place until he departs from it.
«كَانَ إِذَا نَزَلَ مَنْزِلًا لَمْ يَرْتَحِلْ مِنْهُ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَوْ يُوَدِّعَ الْمَنْزِلَ بِرَكْعَتَيْنِ»
✧ When he stopped at a place, he would not leave it until he prayed two rak'ahs, or he would bid farewell to the place with two rak'ahs.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded a man, when he took to his bed, to say: "O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, turned my face to You, entrusted my affairs to You, and relied upon You, out of desire and fear of You. There is no refuge or escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed and Your Prophet whom You sent." For if he dies, he dies upon the fitrah.

إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلْيَنْفُضْ فِرَاشَهُ بِدَاخِلَةِ إِزَارِهِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي مَا خَلَفَهُ فِيهِ وَلْيَقُلْ اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ
✧ When any of you goes to his bed, let him shake out his bed with the inner part of his waist-wrapper, for he does not know what has come into it after him. And let him say: "O Allah, with Your name I lay down my side, and with Your name I raise it. O Allah, if You take my soul, forgive it; and if You release it, guard it with what You guard Your righteous servants."

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and placed his foot between me and Fatimah, and taught us what to say when we took to our beds: thirty-three tasbihs, thirty-three tahmids, and thirty-four takbirs. 'Ali said, "I have not omitted them since." A man said to him, "Not even on the night of Siffin?" He said, "Not even on the night of Siffin."

✧ Whoever wakes up at night and says: 'There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs the praise, and He is over all things capable. Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is greatest, and there is no power or strength except with Allah.' Then he says, 'My Lord, forgive me' — or he said, 'Then he supplicates' — his prayer is answered. If he resolves and performs ablution and then prays, his prayer is accepted.

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ: «أَصْبَحْنَا عَلَى فِطْرَةِ الْإِسْلَامِ، وَكَلِمَةِ الْإِخْلَاصِ، وَدِينِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ، وَمِلَّةِ أَبِينَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا».
When morning came, the Prophet ﷺ would say: aṣbaḥnā ʿalā fiṭrati al-islām, wa-ʿalā kalimati al-ikhlāṣ, wa-ʿalā dīni nabiyyinā muḥammadin ﷺ, wa-ʿalā millati abīnā ibrāhīm, ḥanīfan musliman, wa-mā kāna mina al-mushrikīn (We have entered the morning upon the natural disposition of Islam, the word of sincerity, the religion of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the creed of our father Ibrahim, upright and Muslim.)

قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مُرْنِي بِشَيْءٍ أَقُولُهُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتُ وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْتُ قَالَ قُلْ اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ رَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكَهُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي وَمِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ قَالَ «قُلْهُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ وَإِذَا أَخَذْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ»
✧ Abu Bakr said, “O Messenger of Allah, command me with something I should say when I reach morning and when I reach evening.” He said, “Say: O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, Lord of everything and its Sovereign, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self, and from the evil of Satan and his entrapment.” He said, “Say it when you reach morning, when you reach evening, and when you take to your bed.”

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever wears a garment and says, 'Praise be to Allah who clothed me with this and provided it for me without any power or strength from me,' his previous sins will be forgiven."

إِذَا دَخَلَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيَقُلْ اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ وَإِذَا خَرَجَ فَلْيَقُلْ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
✧ “When one of you enters the mosque, let him say: O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy. And when he leaves, let him say: O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.”
مَنْ دَخَلَ السُّوقَ فَقَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ أَلْفَ أَلْفِ حَسَنَةٍ وَمَحَا عَنْهُ أَلْفَ أَلْفِ سَيِّئَةٍ وَرَفَعَ لَهُ أَلْفَ أَلْفِ دَرَجَةٍ قَالَ فَقَدِمْتُ خُرَاسَانَ فَلَقِيتُ قُتَيْبَةَ بْنَ مُسْلِمٍ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي أَتَيْتُكَ بِهَدِيَّةٍ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ فَكَانَ يَرْكَبُ فِي مَوْكِبِهِ فَيَأْتِي السُّوقَ فَيَقُومُ فَيَقُولُهَا ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ
✧ “Whoever enters the market and says: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner; His is the dominion and His is the praise; He gives life and causes death, and He is ever-living and does not die; in His hand is all good, and He is over all things capable — Allah will record for him a thousand thousand good deeds, and erase from him a thousand thousand bad deeds, and raise him a thousand thousand degrees.” He said, “Then I came to Khurasan and met Qutaybah b. Muslim, and I said, ‘I have brought you a gift,’ and I narrated it to him. So he would ride out in his procession, come to the market, stand there and say it, then return.”

«تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تََكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي»
✧ “Call yourselves by my name, and do not hide behind my title.”
«إِنَّكُمْ تُدْعَوْنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِأَسْمَائِكُمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِكُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا أَسْمَاءَكُمْ»
✧ “You will be called on the Day of Resurrection by your names and the names of your fathers, so make your names beautiful.”

✧ “The most beloved names to Allah are Abdullah and Abd al-Rahman.”

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ نُسَمِّيَ أَرِقَّاءَنَا أَرْبَعَةَ أَسْمَاءٍ أَفْلَحُ وَنَافِعٌ وَرَبَاحٌ وَيَسَارٌ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ forbade us from naming our slaves four names: Aflah, Nafi, Rabah, and Yasar.

«أَنَّ أُمَّ عَاصِمٍ كَانَ يُقَالُ لَهَا عَاصِيَةُ فَسَمَّاهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ جَمِيلَةَ»
✧ “Umm Asim used to be called Asiyah, so the Prophet ﷺ named her Jamilah.”

«كَانَ اسْمُ زَيْنَبَ بَرَّةَ فَسَمَّاهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَيْنَبَ»
✧ “Zaynab’s name was Barrah, so the Prophet ﷺ named her Zaynab.”

قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ نِعْمَ الْقَوْمُ أَنْتُمْ لَوْلَا أَنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ وَشَاءَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَسَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَا تَقُولُوا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ وَشَاءَ مُحَمَّدٌ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ شَاءَ مُحَمَّدٌ
✧ A man from the polytheists said to a man from the Muslims, “What an excellent people you are, were it not that you say: Whatever Allah wills and whatever Muhammad wills.” The Prophet ﷺ heard, so he said, “Do not say: Whatever Allah wills and whatever Muhammad wills, but say: Whatever Allah wills, then whatever Muhammad wills.”
«لَا تَقُولُوا لِحَائِطِ الْعِنَبِ الْكَرْمُ إِنَّمَا الْكَرْمُ الرَّجُلُ الْمُسْلِمُ»
✧ “Do not say to the grapevine ‘generosity’; rather generosity is the Muslim man.”

كَانَ غُلَامٌ يَسُوقُ بِأَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا أَنْجَشَةُ رُوَيْدًا سَوْقَكَ بِالْقَوَارِيرِ»
✧ A boy was driving the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, so he said, “O Anjashah, gently, your driving with the glass vessels.”

«وَيْلٌ لِلَّذِي يُحَدِّثُ فَيَكْذِبُ لِيُضْحِكَ بِهِ الْقَوْمَ وَيْلٌ لَهُ وَيْلٌ لَهُ»
✧ Woe to the one who narrates and lies in order to make people laugh; woe to him, woe to him.

صدق النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أُمَيَّةَ بْنَ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ فِي بَيْتَيْنِ مِنَ شِعْرِهِ فَقَالَ [البحر الطويل] رَجُلٌ وَثَوْرٌ تَحْتَ رِجْلِ يَمِينِهِ وَالنَّسْرُ لِلْأُخْرَى وَلَيْثٌ مُرْصَدُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «صَدَقَ» قَالَ وَالشَّمْسُ تَطْلُعُ كُلَّ آخِرِ لَيْلَةٍ حَمْرَاءَ يُصْبِحُ لَوْنُهَا يَتَوَرَّدُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «صَدَقَ» فقَالَ قائل تَأْبَى فَمَا تَطْلُعُ لَنَا فِي رِسْلِهَا إِلَّا مُعَذَّبَةً وَإِلَّا تُجْلَدُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «صَدَقَ»
✧ The Prophet ﷺ affirmed Umayyah b. Abi al-Salt in two verses of his poetry, saying: [al-tawil meter] 'A man and a bull under his right foot, and the eagle for the other, and a watching lion.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He has spoken truth.' He said: 'And the sun rises at the end of every night, red, its color becoming rosy.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He has spoken truth.' Then a speaker said: 'It refuses; it does not rise for us in its gentleness except tormented and unless it is whipped.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He has spoken truth.'
«إِنَّ مِنَ الشِّعْرِ حِكْمَةً»
✧ Indeed, some poetry is wisdom.
Sunan ad-Darimi 2747Sahih
«لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا أَوْ دَمًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا»
✧ That the belly of one of you be filled with pus or blood is better for him than that it be filled with poetry.
