✧ “Allah has cursed the women who tattoo and those who ask to be tattooed, and the women who pluck facial hair, and those who ask for it to be done, and the women who file gaps between their teeth for beauty, altering the creation of Allah.” This reached a woman from Banu Asad called Umm Ya'qub, so she came and said, “It has reached me that you cursed such-and-such and such-and-such?” He said, “Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed and whom are in the Book of Allah?” She said, “I have read what is between the two covers and I did not find in it what you say.” He said, “If you have read it, you have certainly found it. Have you not read: ‘Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you from, abstain from it, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is severe in punishment’ [al-Hashr 7]?” She said, “Yes.” He said, “For he did forbid it.” She said, “But I see your family doing it?” He said, “Go in and look.” So she went in and looked, and she did not see any of what she needed. He said, “If she were like that, I would not have had intercourse with her.”

machine translationHe was also asked about the hadith of Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbdullāh. He said: Dāwūd b. Rashīd narrated it from Abū Ḥafṣ al-Abbār, from Manṣūr, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbdullāh. This is an error; the correct version is from Manṣūr, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbdullāh.

machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbdullāh, from the Prophet ﷺ: "May Allah curse the women who tattoo." He said: Al-Aʿmash and Manṣūr narrate it from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbdullāh. Jarīr b. Ḥāzim narrated it from al-Aʿmash with a connected chain, and Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. al-Faḍl al-Rāsibī corroborated him, from al-Firyābī, from al-Thawrī, from al-Aʿmash. Others narrate it from al-Aʿmash, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAbdullāh. As for Manṣūr, there is no disagreement about him: he narrated it from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbdullāh. Ibrāhīm b. Muhājir differed from him and narrated it from Ibrāhīm, from Umm Yaʿqūb al-Asadiyyah, from ʿAbdullāh. The correct version is what Manṣūr said.
