✧ When a man sneezes, what does he say?

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أَخِيهِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ

الْعَاطِسُ يَقُولُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ وَيَقُولُ الَّذِي يُشَمِّتُهُ يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ

Translation

✧ The sneezer says: Al-hamdu lillah 'ala kulli hal (Praise be to Allah in every situation). The one who responds to him says: Yarhamukum Allah (May Allah have mercy on you). And he replies to him: Yahdikum Allah wa yuslihu balakum (May Allah guide you and set your affairs right).

    هكذا روى هذا الحديث يحيى القطان فقال عن علي ورواه شعبة عن ابن أبي ليلى فقال عن أبي أيوب الأنصاري وهذا كله يؤتى عن ابن أبي ليلى من سوء حفظه كما قال شعبة ما رأيت أسوأ حفظا من ابن أبي ليلى

    machine translationYaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān narrated this hadith in this way and said: from ʿAlī. Shuʿbah narrated it from Ibn Abī Laylā and said: from Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣārī. All of this comes from Ibn Abī Laylā because of his poor memory, as Shuʿbah said: "I have not seen anyone with a worse memory than Ibn Abī Laylā."
