✧ We came to Qays b. Saʿd b. ʿUbādah in his house. The muezzin called for prayer and we said to Qays, “Stand and lead us in prayer.” He said, “I will not lead a people over whom I am not in command.” A man not inferior to him, called ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥanẓalah b. al-Ghasīl, said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A man is more entitled to the chest of his mount and the chest of his bed, and to lead prayer in his own dwelling.” So Qays b. Saʿd said at that, “O so-and-so,” to a client of his, “stand and pray with them.”
