✧ Whoever is concerned about the hunger of his Muslim brother and feeds him until he is satisfied, and gives him drink until he is quenched, Allah will forgive him.

دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِطَعَامٍ، فَاعْتَزَلَ بَعْضٌ مِنْ ثَمَّةَ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " مَا بَالُهُمْ ؟ قَالَ: صِيَامٌ، قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يُؤْكَلُ عِنْدَهُ إِلَّا صَلَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon us, so I brought him food. Some of those present withdrew, so the Prophet ﷺ said: "What is the matter with them?" He said: "They are fasting." The Prophet ﷺ said: "There is no Muslim in whose presence food is eaten but that the angels send blessings upon him."

إِنَّ قَيْسَ بْنَ عَاصِمٍ أَوْصَى بَنِيهِ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ، فَقَالَ: أُوصِيكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ تَعَالَى، وَسَوِّدُوا أَكْبَرَكُمْ، فَإِنَّ الْقَوْمَ إِذَا سَوَّدُوا أَكْبَرَهُمْ خَلَفُوا آبَاءَهُمْ، وَإِذَا سَوَّدُوا أَصْغَرَهُمْ أُزْرِيَ بِهِمْ فِي أَكْفَائِهِمْ، وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِاصْطِنَاعِ الْمَالِ، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْبَهَةٌ لِلْكَرِيمِ، وَيُسْتَغْنَى بِهِ عَنِ اللَّئِيمِ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْمَسْأَلَةَ
✧ Qays b. ʿĀṣim bequeathed to his sons at the time of his death, saying: "I enjoin upon you the fear of Allah Almighty. Give leadership to your eldest, for when a people give leadership to their eldest, they succeed their fathers; but when they give leadership to their youngest, they are belittled among their peers. I also enjoin you to acquire wealth, for it is a means of honor for the generous and a means of being dispensed from the ignoble. And beware of begging."

فَلَمَّا حَضَرَتْهُ الْوَفَاةُ دَعَا بَنِيهِ فَقَالَ: يَا بَنِيَّ خُذُوا عَنِّي فَلَا أَحَدَ أَنْصَحُ لَكُمْ مِنِّي، إِذَا أَنَا مُتُّ فَسَوِّدُوا أَكَابِرَكُمْ وَلَا تُسَوِّدُوا أَصَاغِرَكُمْ، فَيَسْتَسَفِّهَ النَّاسُ كِبَارَكُمْ وَتَهُونُوا عَلَيْهِمْ، وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِاسْتِصْلَاحِ الْمَالِ، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْبَهَةٌ لِلْكَرِيمِ وَيُسْتَغْنَى بِهِ عَنِ اللَّئِيمِ
✧ When death came to him, he called his sons and said: "O my sons, take from me, for no one is more sincere in advising you than I. When I die, give leadership to your elders and do not give leadership to your young ones, lest people consider your elders foolish and you become insignificant in their eyes. And be keen on improving wealth, for it is a means of honor for the generous and a means of being dispensed from the ignoble."

✧ If a guest spends the night deprived, then it is a right upon the Muslims to support him until they take his hospitality from his crops or his livestock.

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، نَلْقَى الْإِبِلَ وَبِهَا لَبَنٌ وَهِيَ مُصَرَّاةٌ، وَنَحْنُ مُحْتَاجُونَ. قَالَ ﷺ: نَادِ يَا صَاحِبَ الْإِبِلِ ثَلَاثًا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ وَإِلَّا فَاحْلُلْ صِرَارَهَا ثُمَّ اشْرَبْ، ثُمَّ صُرَّ وَأَبْقِ لِلَّبَنٍ دَاعِيَةً ". قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَوْصِنِي. قَالَ ﷺ: " أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ، وَآتِ الزَّكَاةَ، وَصُمْ رَمَضَانَ، وَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ، وَاعْتَمِرْ، وَبِرَّ وَالِدَيْكَ، وَصِلْ رَحِمَكَ، وَاقْرِ الضَّيْفَ، وَأْمُرْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ، وَانْهَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ، وَزُلْ مَعَ الْحَقِّ حَيْثُ زَالَ ". قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، الضَّوَالُّ تَرِدُ عَلَيْنَا هَلْ لَنَا أَجْرٌ أَنْ نَسْقِيَهَا ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: " نَعَمْ فِي كُلِّ ذَاتِ كَبِدٍ حَرَّى أَجْرٌ
✧ I said: "O Messenger of Allah, we come across camels that have milk and are left unmilked, and we are in need." He ﷺ said: "Call out 'O owner of the camels' three times. If he comes, then (ask him); otherwise, untie their udder straps and drink, then tie them again and leave some milk for the next milking." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, advise me." He ﷺ said: "Establish prayer, give zakah, fast Ramadan, perform Hajj to the House, perform ʿUmrah, be dutiful to your parents, maintain ties of kinship, honor the guest, enjoin good, forbid evil, and move with the truth wherever it moves." He said: I then said: "O Messenger of Allah, lost animals come to us; is there any reward for us if we give them water?" He ﷺ said: "Yes, in every living being with a thirsty liver there is a reward."

✧ Hospitality is for three days, and whatever is beyond that is charity. The guest should depart and not burden the household.

لِلضَّيْفِ عَلَى مَنْ نَزَلَ بِهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ ثَلَاثٌ فَمَا زَادَ فَهُوَ صَدَقَةٌ، وَعَلَى الضَّيْفِ أَنْ يَرْتَحِلَ لَا يُؤْلِمُ أَهْلَ مَنْزِلِهِ
✧ The guest has a right upon his host for three (days); whatever is more is charity. The guest should depart and not cause pain to the people of the house where he stays.

سَافَرَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَرْمَلُوا، فَمَرُّوا بِحَيٍّ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ فَسَأَلُوهُمُ الْقِرَى فَأَبَوْا، فَسَأَلُوهُمُ الشِّرَى فَأَبَوْا فَضَبَطُوهُمْ، فَأَصَابُوا مِنْ طَعَامِهِمْ، فَذَهَبَتِ الْأَعْرَابُ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ يَشْكُونَهُمْ، فَأَشْفَقَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ: تَمْنَعُونَ ابْنَ السَّبِيلِ مَا يَخْلُقُ اللهُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ فِي ضُرُوعِ الْإِبِلِ وَالْغَنَمِ ؟ لَابْنُ السَّبِيلِ أَحَقُّ بِالْمَاءِ مِنَ الْبَانِي عَلَيْهِ
✧ Some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveled and ran out of provisions. They passed by a Bedouin tribe and asked them for hospitality, but they refused. Then they asked to buy from them, but they refused. So they seized them and took some of their food. The Bedouins went to ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ complaining about them, and the Anṣār became worried. ʿUmar ؓ said: "Do you deny the wayfarer what Allah creates night and day in the udders of camels and sheep? The wayfarer has more right to the water than the one who builds a structure over it."

قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِذَا أَكَلْتَ فَابْدَأْ بِالْمِلْحِ وَاخْتِمْ بِالْمِلْحِ فَإِنَّ الْمِلْحَ شِفَاءٌ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ دَاءً، أَوَّلُهَا الْجُنُونُ وَالْجُذَامُ وَالْبَرَصُ وَوَجَعُ الْأَضْرَاسِ وَوَجَعُ الْحَلْقِ وَوَجَعُ الْبَطْنِ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "When you eat, begin with salt and end with salt, for salt is a cure for seventy diseases, the first of which are insanity, leprosy, vitiligo, toothache, sore throat, and stomach pain."

كَانَ يَقُولُ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ طَعَامِهِ: " الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَالْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي كَفَانَا وَآوَانَا وَالْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي أَنْعَمَ عَلَيْنَا وَأَفْضَلَ، نَسْأَلُهُ بِرَحْمَتِهِ أَنْ يُجِيرَنَا مِنَ النَّارِ فَرُبَّ غَيْرَ مَكْفِيٍّ لَا يَجِدُ مُنْقَلَبًا وَلَا مَأْوًى
✧ He used to say when he finished his food: “Praise be to Allah who fed us and gave us drink, and praise be to Allah who sufficed us and sheltered us, and praise be to Allah who bestowed favor upon us and was bountiful. We ask Him by His mercy to protect us from the Fire, for many a one who is not sufficed finds no place to turn and no shelter.”

✧ Whoever eats until he is full and drinks until he is quenched and then says: “Praise be to Allah who fed me and satisfied me, and gave me drink and quenched me,” will emerge from his sins like the day his mother gave birth to him.

✧ 'Umar ؓ went to relieve himself, then came out, and food was brought to him. It was said to him, 'Will you not perform ablution?' He said, 'I only clean myself with my left hand and eat with my right hand.'

✧ The Prophet ﷺ came out from the privy and ate. It was said to him, 'Will you not perform ablution?' He said, 'Do I intend to pray that I should perform ablution?'

✧ Whoever forgets to mention the name of Allah, the Exalted, at the beginning of his meal, let him say when he remembers: 'In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end,' for he will then start his meal anew and the evil that would have afflicted him from it will be prevented.

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِوَطْبَةٍ فَأَخَذَهَا أَعْرَابِيٌّ بِثَلَاثِ لُقَمٍ، فَقَالَ ﷺ: أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَوْ قَالَ: بِاسْمِ اللهِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ، وَقَالَ: " إِذَا نَسِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَى طَعَامِهِ فَلْيَقُلْ إِذَا ذَكَرَ: بِاسْمِ اللهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ
✧ A dish of watba (a kind of food) was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and a Bedouin took it with three morsels. He ﷺ said, 'Indeed, had he said: In the name of Allah, it would have sufficed them all.' And he said: 'When one of you forgets the name of Allah upon his food, let him say when he remembers: In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end.'

عَمِلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ خَزِيرَةً، فَجَاءَ وَمَعَهُ رَجُلَانِ فَقَرَّبَتْهَا إِلَيْهِمَا فَمَرَّ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَدَعَاهُ [رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ] إِلَى الطَّعَامِ فَأَخَذَهَا بِلُقْمَةٍ، فَقَالَ ﷺ: " [ ضَعْهَا] وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ [اللهِ تَعَالَى] وَكُلْ، قَالَ: فَأَكَلَ وَشَبِعَ وَفَضَلَ مِنْهَا
✧ I prepared a khazira (a type of thick soup) for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he came with two men, so I brought it near to them. A Bedouin passed by, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ invited him to the food, and he took it with one morsel. He ﷺ said: 'Put it down, and mention the name of Allah, the Exalted, and eat.' He said: So he ate until he was full, and there was still some left over.

أَنَّهَا صَنَعَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ خَزِيرَةً، فَقَرَّبَتْهَا إِلَيْهِ فَأَكَلَهَا وَمَعَهُ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَبَقِيَ مِنْهَا فَضْلَةٌ، فَمَرَّ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَدَعَاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ، فَأَخَذَهَا الْأَعْرَابِيُّ بِيَدِهِ كُلَّهَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَهُ: ضَعْهَا. فَوَضَعَهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ: قُلْ: بِاسْمِ اللهِ، وَخُذْ مِنْ أَدْنَاهَا، قَالَتْ: فَشَبِعَ مِنْهَا وَفَضَلَتْ فَضْلَةٌ
✧ She made a khazira for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and brought it to him. He ate from it along with some of his companions, and some of it remained. A Bedouin passed by the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ invited him. The Bedouin took all of it in his hand, so the Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'Put it down.' He put it down. Then he said to him: 'Say: In the name of Allah, and take from what is nearest to you.' She said: So he ate until he was full, and there was still some left over.

✧ And al-Bazzar said: Muhammad b. 'Abd al-Rahim narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us with this.

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said to me, "O ʿAlī, eat olive oil and anoint yourself with olive oil, for whoever anoints himself with olive oil, Satan will not come near him for forty nights."

صَنَعَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ؓ خَبِيصًا بِالْعَسَلِ وَالسَّمْنِ وَالْبُرِّ، فَأَتَى بِهِ فِي قَصْعَةٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا ؟ قَالَ: هَذَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ شَيْءٌ تَصْنَعُهُ الْأَعَاجِمُ مِنَ الْبُرِّ وَالْعَسَلِ وَالسَّمْنِ تُسَمِّيهِ الْخَبِيصَ، قَالَ: فَأَكَلَ
✧ ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān ؓ made khabīṣ with honey, clarified butter, and wheat, and he brought it in a large bowl to the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said, "What is this?" He said, "This, O Prophet of God, is something the Persians make from wheat, honey, and clarified butter; they call it khabīṣ." He said, "So he ate."

إِنَّ رَجُلًا صَنَعَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ طَعَامًا فَدَعَاهُ، فَقَالَ: أَتَأْذَنُ لِي فِي سَعْدٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ، ثُمَّ صَنَعَ طَعَامًا، فَقَالَ: أَتَأْذَنُ لِي فِي سَعْدٍ [فَأَذِنَ لَهُ، ثُمَّ صَنَعَ طَعَامًا، فَقَالَ: تَأْذَنُ فِي سَعْدٍ ] فَإِنَّهُ صَاحِبُكُمْ
✧ A man prepared food for the Prophet ﷺ and invited him. He said, "Will you permit me to bring Saʿd?" So he gave him permission. Then he prepared food and said, "Will you permit me to bring Saʿd?" [So he gave him permission. Then he prepared food and said, "Will you permit Saʿd?"], for he is your companion.

✧ A man prepared [food] and invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions. A man said: 'I am fasting.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Your brother has prepared food and invited you; break your fast and make up [a day] in its place.'

أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ الْمُتَوَضَّأَ فَأَصَابَ لُقْمَةً أَوْ كِسْرَةً فِي مَجْرَى الْغَائِطِ وَالْبَوْلِ، فَأَخَذَهَا، فَأَمَاطَ عَنْهَا الْأَذَى، وَغَسَلَهَا غَسْلًا نِعِمَّا، ثُمَّ دَفَعَهَا إِلَى غُلَامِهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا غُلَامُ ذَكِّرْنِي بِهَا إِذَا تَوَضَّأْتُ، فَلَمَّا تَوَضَّأَ قَالَ: نَاوِلْنِي اللُّقْمَةَ - أَوْ قَالَ: الْكِسْرَةَ - فَقَالَ: يَا مَوْلَايَ أَكَلْتُهَا، قَالَ: اذْهَبْ فَأَنْتَ حُرٌّ لِوَجْهِ اللهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ الْغُلَامُ: يَا مَوْلَايَ لِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ أَعْتَقْتَنِي ؟ قَالَ: لِأَنِّي سَمِعْتُ أُمِّي فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تَذْكُرُ عَنْ أَبِيهَا رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، قَالَ: مَنْ وَجَدَ لُقْمَةً أَوْ كِسْرَةً فِي مَجْرَى الْغَائِطِ أَوِ الْبَوْلِ، فَأَخَذَهَا أَمَاطَ عَنْهَا الْأَذَى وَغَسَلَهَا غَسْلًا نِعِمَّا ثُمَّ أَكَلَهَا لَمْ تَسْتَقِرَّ فِي بَطْنِهِ حَتَّى يُغْفَرَ لَهُ، فَمَا كُنْتُ لِأَسْتَخْدِمَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ
✧ He entered the lavatory and found a morsel or a piece of bread in the channel for feces and urine. He took it, removed the filth from it, washed it thoroughly, and then handed it to his servant, saying: 'O boy, remind me of it when I perform ablution.' When he performed ablution, he said: 'Hand me the morsel'—or he said: 'the piece of bread.' The boy said: 'O my master, I ate it.' He said: 'Go, for you are free for the sake of Allah.' The boy said to him: 'O my master, why did you set me free?' He said: 'Because I heard my mother Fatimah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, mention from her father, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that he said: "Whoever finds a morsel or a piece of bread in the channel for feces or urine, takes it, removes the filth from it, washes it thoroughly, then eats it—it will not settle in his stomach until he is forgiven." So I would not employ a man from the people of Paradise.'

نَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ [مَنْزِلًا] فَبَعَثَتْ إِلَيْهِ امْرَأَةٌ مَعَ ابْنٍ لَهَا بِشَاةٍ، فَحَلَبَ ثُمَّ [قَالَ]: انْطَلِقْ بِهِ إِلَى أُمِّكَ، فَشَرِبَتْ حَتَّى رَوِيَتْ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ بِشَاةٍ أُخْرَى، فَحَلَبَ، ثُمَّ سَقَى أَبَا بَكْرٍ ؓ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ بِشَاةٍ أُخْرَى، فَحَلَبَ ثُمَّ شَرِبَ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ alighted [at a place]. A woman sent to him, with her son, a sheep. He milked it, then [said]: 'Take it to your mother.' She drank until she was satisfied. Then he [the boy] brought another sheep, and he milked it, then gave Abu Bakr ؓ to drink. Then he brought another sheep, and he milked it, then drank.

✧ Make use of the sheep, for it is but a drink provided by Allah Almighty. When you milk them, do not exhaust them, and leave the milk that draws [the young].

✧ My uncle sent me to the Ansar to collect a debt from a man among them. A man among them brought a drink in a vessel, and one of them blew into it. The other said: 'Do not do that, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to forbid it.'

أَتَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الْجَنَّةَ ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: قُلِ الْعَدْلَ وَأَعْطِ الْفَضْلَ، قَالَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ أُطِقْ [ذَلِكَ] ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: فَأَطْعِمِ الطَّعَامَ [وَ] أَفْشِ السَّلَامَ، قَالَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ أُطِقْ ذَلِكَ أَوْ أَسْتَطِعْ ذَلِكَ ؟، قَالَ ﷺ: [هَلْ [لَكَ] مِنْ إِبِلٍ ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ]. قَالَ: فَانْظُرْ بَعِيرًا مِنْ إِبِلِكَ وَسِقَاءً وَانْظُرْ أَهْلَ بَيْتٍ لَا يَشْرَبُونَ الْمَاءَ إِلَّا غِبًّا فَاسْقِهِمْ، فَإِنَّكَ [لَعَلَّكَ] لَا يَهْلِكَ بَعِيرُكَ، وَلَا يَنْخَرِقُ سِقَاؤُكَ حَتَّى تَجِبَ لَكَ الْجَنَّةُ
✧ A man came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will admit me into Paradise.' He ﷺ said: 'Speak justice and give surplus.' He said: 'What if I cannot do that?' He ﷺ said: 'Then feed food and spread peace.' He said: 'What if I cannot do that or am unable to do that?' He ﷺ said: 'Do you have any camels?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then look for a camel from your camels and a waterskin, and look for a household that does not drink water except every other day, and give them water to drink. For perhaps your camel will not perish and your waterskin will not tear until Paradise becomes due for you.'

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي أَزْمَةٍ أَوْ أَزْلَةٍ أَصَابَتِ النَّاسَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: تَوَزَّعُوهُمْ فَكَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَأْخُذُ بِيَدِ الرَّجُلِ، وَالرَّجُلُ يَأْخُذُ بِيَدِ الرَّجُلَيْنِ، فَكَانَ الْقَوْمُ يَتَحَامَوْنَنِي لِمَا يَرَوْنَ مِنْ طُولِي وَعِظَمِي، فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِي، فَذَهَبَ بِي إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ، فَحَلَبَ شَاةً، فَشَرِبْتُ لَبَنَهَا، ثُمَّ حَلَبَ أُخْرَى فَشَرِبْتُ لَبَنَهَا، حَتَّى حَلَبَ لِي سَبْعًا، قَالَ: فَذَهَبْتُ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ أَسْلَمْتُ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَحَلَبَ لِي شَاةً وَاحِدَةً، فَشَبِعْتُ وَرَوِيتُ، فَقُلْتُ: وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا شَبِعْتُ قَطُّ وَلَا رَوِيتُ قَبْلَ الْيَوْمِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: الْمُؤْمِنُ يَشْرَبُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ، وَالْكَافِرُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ
✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ during a famine or distress that had befallen the people. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his companions: 'Distribute them among yourselves.' So a man would take the hand of one man, and a man would take the hands of two men. The people were avoiding me because of what they saw of my height and size, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took my hand and took me to his house. He milked a sheep, and I drank its milk. Then he milked another, and I drank its milk, until he had milked seven for me. He said: So I left. Then when the next day came, I embraced Islam. Then I came, and he milked a single sheep for me, and I was full and quenched. I said: 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I have never been full or quenched before today.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The believer drinks in one intestine, and the disbeliever in seven intestines.'

إِنَّهُ قَدِمَ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ يُرِيدُونَ الْإِسْلَامَ، فَحَضَرُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَغْرِبَ، فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ، قَالَ: يَأْخُذُ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ بِيَدِ جَلِيسِهِ، فَلَمْ يَبْقَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ غَيْرُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَغَيْرِي، وَكُنْتُ رَجُلًا طَوِيلًا لَا يُقَدَّمُ عَلَيَّ أَحَدٌ، فَذَهَبَ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ فَحَلَبَ لِي عَنْزًا، فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَيْهَا [حَتَّى حَلَبَ لِي سَبْعَةَ أَعْنُزٍ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَيْهَا] ثُمَّ أُتِيتُ بِصَنِيعِ بُرْمَةٍ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَيْهَا، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ أَيْمَنَ ؓ: " أَجَاعَ اللهُ مَنْ أَجَاعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ، فَقَالَ ﷺ: مَهْ يَا أُمَّ أَيْمَنَ أَكَلَ رِزْقَهُ، وَرِزْقُنَا عَلَى اللهِ تَعَالَى، فَأَصْبَحُوا قُعُودًا، فَاجْتَمَعَ هُوَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يُخْبِرُ بِمَنْ أَتَوْا إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ جَهْجَاهٌ: فَحُلِبَ لِي سَبْعَةُ أَعْنُزٍ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَيْهَا، وَصُنِعَ بُرْمَةٌ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلَيْهَا، فَصَلَّوْا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَغْرِبَ، فَقَالَ: لِيَأْخُذْ كُلٌّ مِنْكُمْ بِيَدِ جَلِيسِهِ فَلَمْ يَبْقَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ غَيْرُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَغَيْرِي، وَكُنْتُ عَظِيمًا طَوِيلًا لَا يُقَدَّمُ عَلَيَّ أَحَدٌ، فَذَهَبَ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ، فَحَلَبَ لِي عَنْزًا، فَرُوِيتُ وَشَبِعْتُ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ أَيْمَنَ ؓ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَلَيْسَ هَذَا ضَيْفَنَا ؟ فَقَالَ: [بَلَى] فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " إِنَّهُ أَكَلَ فِي مِعَى مُؤْمِنٍ اللَّيْلَةَ، وَأَكَلَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فِي مِعَى كَافِرٍ، وَالْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ، وَالْمُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ
✧ He came with a group of his people wanting to embrace Islam. They attended the Maghrib prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When he said the salam, he said: 'Each man should take the hand of his companion.' No one remained in the mosque except the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and me. I was a tall man, no one could be put before me. The Messenger of Allah took me to his house and milked a goat for me, and I finished it [until he had milked seven goats for me and I finished them all]. Then a pot dish was brought to me and I finished it. Umm Ayman ؓ said: 'May Allah starve the one who starved the Messenger of Allah ﷺ this night.' He ﷺ said: 'Enough, O Umm Ayman. He ate his provision, and our provision is upon Allah, the Exalted.' Then the next morning they sat down, and he gathered with his companions, and each man began to tell about those they had gone with. Jahjah said: 'Seven goats were milked for me and I finished them all, and a pot was made and I finished it all.' Then they prayed the Maghrib prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: 'Each of you should take the hand of his companion.' No one remained in the mosque except the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and me. I was big and tall, no one could be put before me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took me to his house and milked a goat for me, and I was quenched and full. Umm Ayman ؓ said: 'O Messenger of Allah, is this not our guest?' He said: 'Yes.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, he ate tonight in the intestine of a believer, and before that he ate in the intestine of a disbeliever. The disbeliever eats in seven intestines, and the believer eats in one intestine.'
