✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a small group to raid a tribe. One man from the tribe separated from the rest, and a man from the group followed him with his sword visible. The man said, "I am a Muslim," but the other man did not pay attention to what he said and struck him, killing him. The news was conveyed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said something severe about the incident. The killer approached and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I swear by Allah, he did not say anything except seeking protection from being killed." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from him and everyone around him. He continued his sermon and then turned back to the man and said, "O Messenger of Allah, he did not say anything except seeking protection from being killed." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from him and everyone around him again. Unable to contain himself, the man said it a third time, and the anger on the Messenger's face became apparent. He said, "Allah has made it forbidden for me to kill a believer," repeating it three times.

  2. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5973Sahih

✧ He halted his camel and a man held its nose-rein—or he said its halter—and he said: “Which day is this?” We remained silent until we thought he would call it by a name other than its own. Then he said: “Is it not the Day of Sacrifice?” We said: “Yes.” He said: “Which month is this?” We remained silent until we thought he would call it by a name other than its own. Then he said: “Is it not Dhu al-Hijjah?” We said: “Yes.” He said: “Which land is this?” We remained silent until we thought he would call it by a name other than its own. Then he said: “Is it not the Sacred Land?” We said: “Yes.” He said: “Your blood, your wealth, and your honor are sacred to one another, like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. Let those present among you convey to those absent, for the one present may convey to one who is more mindful than him.”

  3. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5974Sahih

✧ On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said: “Indeed time has returned to its original state as it was on the day Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year is twelve months, of which four are sacred: three consecutive—Dhu al-Qa‘dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, and al-Muharram—and Rajab of Mudar, which is between Jumada and Sha‘ban.” Then he said, “Which month is this?” We said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He fell silent until we thought he would name it by a name other than its own. He said, “Is it not Dhu al-Hijjah?” We said, “Yes.” He said, “Which land is this?” We said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He fell silent until we thought he would name it by a name other than its own. He said, “Is it not this town?” We said, “Yes.” He said, “Which day is this?” We said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “Is it not the Day of Sacrifice?” We said, “Yes.” He said, “Indeed your blood and your wealth”—Muhammad said, “and I think he said, ‘and your honor’”—“are sacred to you, like the sanctity of this day of yours in this land of yours. And you will meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. So do not return after me astray, striking the necks of one another. Let those of you who are present convey it to those who are absent, for perhaps some who receive it may understand it better than some who heard it.” He said: Muhammad would, whenever he mentioned it, say, “Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth; it was indeed so.” Then he ﷺ said, “Have I conveyed (the message)? Have I conveyed (the message)?”

✧ A Jew killed a girl for ornaments she had, killing her with a stone. He said: She was brought while still breathing. He said to her: "Did so-and-so kill you?" She gestured with her head: No. Then he asked her a second time, and she gestured with her head: No. Then he asked her a third time, and she said: Yes, and gestured with her head. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ killed him between two stones.

  22. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5993Sahih

✧ A girl was found with her head crushed between two stones. They said to her: "Who did this to you? So-and-so? So-and-so?" until a Jewish man was mentioned, and she nodded with her head. The Jew was seized and he confessed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that his head be crushed with stones.

✧ I went with my father to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When I saw him, my father said: "Who is this?" I said: "I don't know." He said: "This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." I shuddered when he said that. I had thought that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not resemble people, but he had a lock of hair with a trace of henna on it, and he wore two green garments. My father greeted him, then he began to talk to us for a while. He said: "Is this your son?" He said: "Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah, I bear witness to it." He said: "Indeed, this son of yours will not commit a crime against you, nor will you commit a crime against him." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited: {No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another}. Then he looked at the swelling between his shoulders and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am like the best of physicians. Shall I treat it?" He said: "Its physician is the One who created it."

✧ Khaza'ah were allies of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Banu Bakr, a clan of Banu Kinanah, were allies of Abu Sufyan. He said: There was a truce between them during the days of al-Hudaybiyyah. Banu Bakr raided Khaza'ah during that period, so they sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking his aid. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to aid them in the month of Ramadan. He fasted until he reached Qudayd, then he broke his fast and said: "Let the people fast while traveling and break their fast. Whoever fasts, his fast suffices him, and whoever breaks his fast must make it up." Then Allah granted the conquest of Makkah. When he entered it, he leaned his back against the Ka'bah and said: "Withhold weapons except Khaza'ah against Bakr," until a man came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, a man was killed at al-Muzdalifah." He said: "This sanctuary is sacred by the command of Allah. It was not lawful for anyone before me, nor will it be lawful for anyone after me. It was made lawful for me only for one hour. It is not lawful for a Muslim to brandish a weapon in it, nor to cut its fresh herbage, nor to cut its trees, nor to startle its game." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, except idhkhir, for it is for our houses and our graves." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Except idhkhir. The most insolent of people against Allah are three: one who kills in Allah's sanctuary, or kills other than his killer, or kills for a Jahiliyyah vendetta." A man stood up and said: "O Prophet of Allah, I had intercourse with a slave girl of Banu so-and-so, and she bore me a child. Order that my child be returned to me." He ﷺ said: "He is not your child. This is not permissible in Islam. The one against whom claim is made is more entitled to the oath unless clear evidence is established. The child belongs to the owner of the bed, and for the fornicator is the athlab." A man said: "O Prophet of Allah, what is the athlab?" He said: "The stone. Whoever commits adultery with a woman he does not own or with the woman of another people and she gives birth, then the child is not his; he does not inherit nor is he inherited from. The believers are a hand against those besides them; their blood is equal. Their lowest may grant protection, and their farthest returns to them. A believer is not killed for a disbeliever, nor a person with a covenant while in his covenant. The people of two religions do not inherit from each other. A woman is not married to her paternal aunt or her maternal aunt. She does not travel three days without a mahram. Do not pray after dawn until the sun rises, and do not pray after 'asr until the sun sets."
