✧ The parable of the one who is lenient with the limits of Allah, the one who commands them, and the one who forbids them is like a people who drew lots for a ship at sea. Some of them got the stern, farthest from the water, and some got the top. When they wanted water and were at the back of the ship, they annoyed their companions. Some of them said, 'We are closest to the water and farthest from it; let us bore a hole in the side of the ship and draw water, and when we no longer need it we will plug it.' The foolish among them said, 'Do it.' He took the axe and struck the side of the ship. A wise man among them said, 'What are you doing?' He said, 'We are closest to the water and farthest from it; we will break the side of the ship and draw water, and when we no longer need it we will plug it.' He said, 'Do not do it, for if you do, you will perish and we will perish.'
