✧ A man from the people of Madinah who had nobility passed by him while he was sitting in the market of Madinah. Then ʿAlqamah said: “O so-and-so, you have sanctity and you have a right. I have seen you entering upon these rulers and speaking before them. I heard Bilāl b. al-Ḥārith al-Muzanī, the Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Indeed, one of you speaks a word that is pleasing to Allah, not expecting it to reach what it reaches, and Allah writes for him His pleasure until the day he meets Him. And indeed, one of you speaks a word that is displeasing to Allah, not expecting it to reach what it reaches, and Allah writes for him His displeasure until the Day of Resurrection.’”
