قَدِمَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَسْتَذْكِرُهُ: كَيْفَ أَخْبَرْتَنِي عَنْ لَحْمِ الصَّيْدِ الَّذِي أُهْدِيَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ حَرَامٌ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، أُهْدِيَ لَهُ رِجْلُ أَوْ عُضْوُ لَحْمِ صَيْدٍ فَرَدَّهُ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّا لَا نَأْكُلُهُ، إِنَّا حُرُمٌ
✧ Zayd b. Arqam came, and Ibn Abbas asked him, seeking his recollection: How did you inform me about the meat of game that was gifted to the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was in a state of sanctity? He said: Yes, a leg or a limb of game meat was gifted to him, and he returned it, saying: We do not eat it; we are in a state of sanctity.

نَشَدَ عَلِيٌّ النَّاسَ فِي الرَّحَبَةِ مَنْ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ فَقَامَ سِتَّةٌ فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّهُمْ سَمِعُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ: " أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ " قَالُوا: بَلَى، قَالَ: " أَوَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِكُمْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ " قَالُوا: بَلَى، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ، اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ، وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ
✧ Ali adjured the people in al-Rahbah: Who heard the Messenger of God ﷺ on the day of Ghadir Khumm? Six stood up and testified that they heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say on the day of Ghadir Khumm: "Am I not more entitled to the believers?" They said: Yes. He said: "And am I not more entitled to you than your own selves?" They said: Yes. He said: "O God, whoever I am his mawla, Ali is his mawla. O God, befriend whoever befriends him, and be at enmity with whoever is at enmity with him."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ يَأْكُلُونَ وَيَشْرَبُونَ، فَقَالَ: وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ مِنْهُمْ لَيُؤْتَى قُوَّةَ مِائَةِ رَجُلٍ فِي الْأَكْلِ وَالشُّرْبِ وَالْجِمَاعِ وَالشَّهْوَةِ قَالَ: فَإِنَّ الَّذِي يَأْكُلُ وَيَشْرَبُ تَكُونُ لَهُ الْحَاجَةُ ؟ قَالَ: " عَرَقٌ يَفِيضُ مِثْلَ رِيحِ الْمِسْكِ، فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ ضَمُرَ لَهُ بَطْنُهُ
✧ A man from the Jews came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Abū al-Qāsim, you claim that the people of Paradise eat and drink. He said: By the One in whose hand is my soul, indeed a man among them will be given the strength of a hundred men in eating, drinking, intercourse, and desire. He said: Then the one who eats and drinks will have need to relieve himself? He said: "A sweat that flows like the scent of musk; when that occurs, his belly will become lean."

عَقَدَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ عُقَدًا، فَكَانَ يَأْلَمُ ذَلِكَ، فَجَاءَهُ الْمَلَكَانِ يَعُودَانِهِ، فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ: تَدْرِي مَا بِهِ ؟ عَقَدَ لَهُ فُلَانٌ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ عُقَدًا فَرَمَى بِهِ فِي بِئْرِ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَلَوْ أَخْرَجَهُ فَرَمَى بِهِ عُوفِيَ، فَبُعِثُوا إِلَى الْبِئْرِ، فَوَجَدُوا الْمَاءَ قَدِ اخْضَرَّ، فَأَخْرَجُوهُ فَرَمَوْا بِهِ، فَعُوفِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَمَا رُئِيَ فِي وَجْهِهِ، وَلَا حُدِثَ بِهِ
✧ A man from the Ansar tied knots against the Prophet ﷺ, and he suffered pain from that. The two angels came to visit him. One of them said to his companion: Do you know what is with him? So-and-so the Ansari tied knots against him and threw it into such-and-such a well. If he were to take it out and throw it away, he would be healed. So they were sent to the well, and they found the water had turned green. They took it out and threw it away, and the Prophet ﷺ was healed. Nothing was seen in his face, nor did he speak of it.

غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَنَا نَاسٌ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ، فَكُنَّا نَبْتَدِرُ الْمَاءَ، فَكَانَ الْأَعْرَابُ يَسْبِقُونَنَا، فَيَسْبِقُ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ أَصْحَابَهُ، فَيَمْلَأُ الْحَوْضَ، يَجْعَلُ حَوْلَهُ حِجَارَةً، وَيَجْعَلُ النِّطْعَ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى يَجِيءَ أَصْحَابُهُ. قَالَ: فَأَتَى رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَعْرَابِيًّا، فَأَدْخَلَ زِمَامَ نَاقَتِهِ لِتَشْرَبَ، فَأَبَى أَنْ يَدَعَهُ، فَانْتَزَعَ حَجَرًا فَغَاصَ الْمَاءُ، فَرَفَعَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ خَشَبَةً، فَضَرَبَ بِهَا رَأْسَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ فَشَجَّهُ، فَأَتَى عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أُبَيٍّ ابْنَ سَلُولَ رَأْسَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ، وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَغَضِبَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ، وَقَالَ: لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ; حَتَّى يَنْفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِهِ - يَعْنِي: الْأَعْرَابَ - وَكَانُوا يَحْضُرُونَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ الطَّعَامِ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: إِذَا انْفَضُّوا مِنْ عِنْدِ مُحَمَّدٍ فَأْتُوا مُحَمَّدًا بِالطَّعَامِ، فَلْيَأْكُلْ هُوَ وَمَنْ عِنْدَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: إِذَا رَجَعْتُمُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَلَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْكُمُ الْأَذَلَّ. قَالَ زَيْدٌ: وَأَنَا رِدْفُ عَمِّي، فَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أُبَيٍّ، وَكُنَّا أَخْوَالَهُ، فَأَخْبَرْتُ عَمِّي، فَانْطَلَقَ فَأَخْبَرَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَحَلَفَ وَجَحَدَ، فَصَدَّقَهُ وَكَذَّبَنِي، فَجَاءَ إِلَيَّ عَمِّي، فَقَالَ: مَا أَرَدْتُ أَنْ قَبِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَوْلَهُ وَكَذَّبَكَ، وَكَذَّبَكَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ، قَالَ: فَوَقَعَ عَلَيَّ مِنَ الْهَمِّ مَا لَمْ يَقَعْ عَلَى أَحَدٍ قَطُّ، قَالَ: فَبَيْنَا أَنَا أَسِيرُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَخْفَقْتُ بِرَأْسِي مِنَ الْهَمِّ، فَأَتَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَرَكَ أُذُنِي وَضَحِكَ فِي وَجْهِي، فَمَا كَانَ يَسُرُّنِي أَنَّ لِي بِهَا الْمُلْكَ أَوِ الدُّنْيَا، ثُمَّ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ لَحِقَنِي، فَقَالَ: مَا قَالَ لَكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ؟ قُلْتُ: مَا قَالَ لِي شَيْئًا إِلَّا أَنَّهُ عَرَكَ فِي أُذُنِي وَضَحِكَ فِي وَجْهِي، فَقَالَ: أَبْشِرْ، ثُمَّ لَحِقَنِي عُمَرُ، فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَ قَوْلِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْنَا قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سُورَةَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ
✧ We went on a military expedition with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and with us were people from the Bedouins. We would race to the water, and the Bedouins would outpace us. A Bedouin would outpace his companions and fill the trough, placing stones around it and putting a leather mat over it until his companions arrived. He said: A man from the Ansar came to a Bedouin and inserted the nose-rein of his camel to let it drink, but he refused to let him. He pulled out a stone, and the water sank. The Bedouin raised a piece of wood and struck the Ansari's head with it, wounding him. He went to Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Salul, the head of the hypocrites, and informed him, as he was one of his companions. Abdullah b. Ubayy became angry and said: Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of God, until they disperse from around him—meaning the Bedouins—and they used to attend the Messenger of God ﷺ at meals. Abdullah said to his companions: When they disperse from Muhammad, bring food to Muhammad; let him and those with him eat. Then he said to his companions: When you return to Madinah, the more mighty will expel the more lowly. Zayd said: I was riding behind my uncle, and I heard Abdullah b. Ubayy, and we were his maternal uncles. I informed my uncle, and he went and informed the Messenger of God ﷺ. The Messenger of God ﷺ sent for him, and he swore and denied. He believed him and called me a liar. My uncle came to me and said: What did you intend? The Messenger of God ﷺ accepted his words and called you a liar, and the Muslims called you a liar. He said: Such worry fell upon me as had never fallen upon anyone. He said: While I was traveling with the Messenger of God ﷺ on a journey, I dozed off with my head due to worry. The Messenger of God ﷺ came to me, rubbed my ear, and smiled in my face. It would not have pleased me to have sovereignty or the world in exchange for that. Then Abu Bakr caught up with me and said: What did the Messenger of God say to you? I said: He did not say anything to me except that he rubbed my ear and smiled in my face. He said: Rejoice. Then Umar caught up with me and said to me the like of Abu Bakr's words. When morning came, the Messenger of God ﷺ recited Surat al-Munafiqun.

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةٍ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ: لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ. فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، فَقَالَ لِي قَوْمِي. مَا أَرَدْتُ إِلَى هَذَا، فَرَجَعْتُ فَنِمْتُ كَئِيبًا حَزِينًا، وَجَاءَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ فَحَلَفَ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ صَدَّقَكَ وَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ حَتَّى يَنْفَضُّوا وَلِلَّهِ خَزَائِنُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَلَكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لا يَفْقَهُونَ
✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, and 'Abdullah b. Ubayy said: 'If we return to Madinah, the most honorable will surely expel from it the most abased.' So I came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. He said to me, 'My people—what did you intend by this?' So I went back and slept sorrowful and sad. Then 'Abdullah b. Ubayy came and swore an oath, so I returned to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: 'Allah has indeed confirmed you, and Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed: "They are the ones who say: Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse. And to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand."'

أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكُمْ مَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُعَلِّمُنَا اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ، وَالْهَرَمِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، اللَّهُمَّ آتِ أَنْفُسَنَا تَقْوَاهَا، أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا، أَنْتَ وَلِيُّهَا وَمَوْلَاهَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ، وَنَفْسٍ لَا تَشْبَعُ، وَعِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ، وَدَعْوَةٍ لَا يُسْتَجَابُ لَهَا
✧ Shall I not teach you what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach us? 'O Allah, I seek refuge with You from inability and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from senility and the punishment of the grave. O Allah, grant our souls their taqwā; You are the best of those who purify them. You are their Guardian and Master. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from a heart that does not humble itself, a soul that is never satisfied, knowledge that does not benefit, and a supplication that is not answered.'

نَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِمِثْلِهِ. وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ، وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا جَمَعَ أَبَا عُثْمَانَ وَعَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ إِلَّا مُعَاوِيَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ
✧ 'Abd al-Wāḥid b. Ziyād reported to us, from 'Āṣim al-Aḥwal, from 'Abdullāh b. al-Ḥārith, from Zayd b. Arqam, from the Prophet ﷺ, with its like. And this hadith—we do not know it to be narrated from Zayd b. Arqam except through this route, and we do not know anyone who combined Abū 'Uthmān and 'Abdullāh b. al-Ḥārith except Mu'āwiyah, from 'Āṣim.

✧ Abū Dāwūd reported to us, saying: Shu'bah, from 'Alī b. Zayd, from al-Naḍr b. Anas, from Zayd b. Arqam, from the Prophet ﷺ, with its like. And this hadith—we do not know anyone who narrated it from Qatādah, from al-Naḍr b. Anas, from Zayd who is more trustworthy than Shu'bah, and more than one followed him in its narration, so we were content with Shu'bah. But Ma'mar disagreed with him and said: from Qatādah, from al-Naḍr b. Anas, from Anas.

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ إِلَى الشَّامِ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ مُعَاذٌ، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَسْجُدُونَ لِأَسَاقِفَتِهِمْ وَبَطَارِقَتِهِمْ أَفَلَا نَسْجُدُ لَكَ ؟ قَالَ: لَا، وَلَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Mu'adh b. Jabal to Syria. When Mu'adh arrived, he said: O Messenger of Allah, I saw the People of the Book prostrating to their bishops and patriarchs; should we not prostrate to you? He said: No. If I were to command anyone to prostrate to anyone, I would command the woman to prostrate to her husband.

نَا صَدَقَةُ - يَعْنِي - ابْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوِهِ. وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدِ اخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، فَقَالَ أَيُّوبُ: عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى. وَقَالَ قَتَادَةُ: عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، وَقَالَ هِشَامٌ: عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ مُعَاذٍ. وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ إِلَّا صَدَقَةُ، وَصَدَقَةُ لَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ فِي الْحَدِيثِ، وَقَدْ كَتَبَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ حَدِيثَهُ
✧ Sadaqah - meaning Ibn 'Abd Allah - reported to us, from Sa'id b. Abi 'Arubah, from Qatadah, from al-Qasim al-Shaybani, from Zayd b. Arqam, from the Prophet ﷺ, something similar. And this hadith has been disputed regarding al-Qasim al-Shaybani. Ayyub said: from al-Qasim b. Abi Awfa. Qatadah said: from al-Qasim, from Zayd b. Arqam. Hisham said: from al-Qasim al-Shaybani, from 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Layla, from Mu'adh. And we do not know of anyone who narrated this hadith from Abi 'Arubah except Sadaqah, and Sadaqah is not strong in hadith, but the scholars have written down his hadith.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and stopped at a valley between Makkah and Madinah and gave us a sermon. Then he said: I am only a human being; I am about to be called and I will answer. Indeed, I am leaving among you the two weighty things: one of them is the Book of Allah and my household. He said it three times. We said: Who are his household - his wives? He said: Have you not seen that a woman stays with a man for a time and then returns to her father and her people? His household are his family and his kin who are forbidden to receive charity after him: the family of 'Abbas, the family of 'Ali, the family of Ja'far, and the family of 'Aqil.

نَزَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَادٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ وَادِي خُمٍّ، فَأُذِّنَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّاهَا تَهْجِيرًا، ثُمَّ خَطَبَنَا، وَظُلِّلَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِثَوْبٍ عَلَى شَجَرَةِ سَمُرَةٍ مِنَ الشَّمْسِ، فَقَالَ: أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَوْ تَشْهَدُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِكُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ قَالُوا: بَلَى، قَالَ: " فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيًّا مَوْلَاهُ، اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ، وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ
✧ We stopped with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at a valley called Wadi Khumm. The call to prayer was given and he prayed it at midday. Then he gave us a sermon, and a cloth was stretched over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a samurah tree to shade him from the sun. He said: Do you not know or testify that I am closer to every believer than his own self? They said: Yes. He said: So whoever I am his mawla, 'Ali is his mawla. O Allah, befriend those who befriend him and be hostile to those who are hostile to him.

✧ We were sitting with Zayd b. Arqam, and a man came and sat down. He said: People have said much about these two men: 'Ali and 'Uthman. Tell me about them. He said: I will not tell you except what I witnessed and my heart retained. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ came out and faced us, praised Allah and extolled Him as He deserves, then said: Do you not know that I have more right over the believers than their own selves? He repeated it to us three times, each time we said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah, while 'Ali was silent. He said: Stand up, O 'Ali, and he took hold of his upper arm or his two upper arms and raised it or raised them, then said: Whoever I am his mawla, 'Ali is his mawla.

انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَحُصَيْنٌ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، أَوْ عُمَرُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ فِي دَارِهِ، فَقَالَ حُصَيْنٌ: يَا زَيْدُ، لَقَدْ لَقِيتَ خَيْرًا وَرَأَيْتَ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا، رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَسَمِعْتَ حَدِيثَهُ، وَغَزَوْتَ مَعَهُ، وَصَلَّيْتَ خَلْفَهُ، حَدِّثْنَا مَا رَأَيْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَشَهِدْتَ مِنْهُ، قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ أَخِي، كَبِرَتْ سِنِّي وَقَدُمَ عَهْدِي، وَنَسِيتُ بَعْضَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَذْكُرُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَمَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ، فَاقْبَلُوهُ، وَمَا لَمْ أُحَدِّثْكُمُوهُ، فَلَا تُكَلِّفُونِيهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَمَّا بَعْدُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَنِي رَسُولُ رَبِّي فَأُجِيبَ، وَإِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمُ الثَّقَلَيْنِ؛ أَوَّلُهُمَا كِتَابُ اللهِ فِيهِ الْهُدَى وَالنُّورُ " فَحَثَّ عَلَى كِتَابِ اللهِ وَرَغَّبَ فِيهِ "، وَأَهْلُ بَيْتِي، أُذَكِّرُكُمُ اللهَ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِي " قَالَ حُصَيْنٌ يَا زَيْدُ، مَنْ أَهْلُ بَيْتِهِ؛ نِسَاؤُهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ نِسَاءَهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ، وَلَكِنَّ أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ مَنْ حُرِمَ الصَّدَقَةَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ، قِيلَ: مَنْ هُمْ ؟ قَالَ: آلُ عَبَّاسٍ، وَآلُ عَلِيٍّ، وَآلُ جَعْفَرٍ، وَآلُ عَقِيلٍ، فَإِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ تَحْرُمُ عَلَيْهِمُ الصَّدَقَةُ
✧ I, Husayn, and 'Amr b. Muslim, or 'Umar b. Muslim, went to Zayd b. Arqam at his house. Husayn said: O Zayd, you have encountered good and seen much good. You saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, heard his hadith, campaigned with him, and prayed behind him. Tell us what you saw from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and witnessed from him. He said: O son of my brother, my age has become old and my time has grown distant, and I have forgotten some of what I used to remember from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So whatever I narrate to you, accept it, and whatever I do not narrate to you, do not burden me with it. Then he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave us a sermon, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: To proceed, O people, I am only a human being; soon the messenger of my Lord will come to me and I will respond. I am leaving among you the two weighty things: the first is the Book of Allah, in it is guidance and light, so he urged adherence to the Book of Allah and encouraged it, and my household. I remind you of Allah concerning my household. Husayn said: O Zayd, who are his household? Are his wives from his household? He said: His wives are from his household, but his household are those who are forbidden charity after him. It was said: Who are they? He said: The family of 'Abbas, the family of 'Ali, the family of Ja'far, and the family of 'Aqil, for these are forbidden charity.

He said: What did he do? He said: He prayed the Eid prayer and granted a concession regarding the Friday prayer, saying: Whoever wishes to stay may stay.

مَرِضْتُ فَعَادَنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ثُمَّ بَرِئْتُ فَلَقِيَنِي، فَقَالَ: يَا زَيْدُ، أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَيْنُكَ لِمَا بِهَا، مَا كُنْتَ صَانِعًا ؟ قُلْتُ: كُنْتُ أَصْبِرُ وَأَحْتَسِبُ، قَالَ: لَوْ كَانَتْ عَيْنُكَ لِمَا بِهَا فَصَبَرْتَ وَاحْتَسَبْتَ وَجَبَتْ لَكَ الْجَنَّةُ
✧ I fell ill and the Prophet ﷺ visited me. Then I recovered and met him. He said: O Zayd, if your eye were afflicted with what it has, what would you do? I said: I would be patient and seek reward. He said: If your eye were afflicted with what it has, and you were patient and sought reward, Paradise would be obligatory for you.

" مَا ابْتُلِيَ عَبْدٌ بَعْدَ ذَهَابِ دِينِهِ بِأَشَدَّ مِنْ بَصَرِهِ، وَمَنِ ابْتُلِيَ بِبَصَرِهِ، فَصَبَرَ حَتَّى يَلْقَى اللهَ لَقِيَ اللهَ - تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى - وَلَا حِسَابَ عَلَيْهِ
✧ A servant is not tested, after the loss of his religion, with anything more severe than his eyesight. Whoever is tested with his eyesight and remains patient until he meets Allah, he will meet Allah — Blessed and Exalted is He — and there will be no reckoning upon him.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَمَّا كَانَ لَيْلَةَ بَاتَ فِي الْغَارِ أَمَرَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى شَجَرَةً فَنَبَتَتْ فِي وَجْهِ الْغَارِ فَسَتَرَتْ وَجْهَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَمَرَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى الْعَنْكَبُوتَ فَنَسَجَتْ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْغَارِ، وَأَمَرَ اللهُ جَلَّ وَعَزَّ حَمَامَتَيْنِ وَحْشِيَّتَيْنِ فَوَقَعَتَا بِفَمِ الْغَارِ، وَأَتَى الْمُشْرِكُونَ مِنْ كُلِّ بَطْنٍ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ عَلَى قَدْرِ أَرْبَعِينَ ذِرَاعًا مَعَهُمْ قِسِيُّهُمْ وَعِصِيُّهُمْ تَقَدَّمَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ فَنَظَرَ فَرَأَى الْحَمَامَتَيْنِ، فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: لَيْسَ فِي الْغَارِ شَيْءٌ، رَأَيْتُ حَمَامَتَيْنِ عَلَى فَمِ الْغَارِ فَعَرَفْتُ أَنْ لَيْسَ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ، فَسَمِعَ قَوْلَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَعَرَفَ أَنَّ اللهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قَدْ دَرَأَ بِهِمَا عَنْهُ، فَشَمَّتَ عَلَيْهِمَا، وَفَرَضَ جَزَاءَهُمَا، وَاتَّخَذَتْ فِي حَرَمِ اللهِ يُفْرِخْنَ. أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: فَأَصْلُ كُلِّ حَمَامٍ فِي الْحَرَمِ مِنْ فِرَاخِهَا
✧ When the Prophet ﷺ spent the night in the cave, Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, commanded a tree and it grew at the mouth of the cave and concealed the Prophet ﷺ. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, commanded the spider, and it spun a web over the mouth of the cave. Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, commanded two wild rock doves, and they alighted at the mouth of the cave. The polytheists came from every clan until, when they were about forty cubits from the Prophet ﷺ with their bows and staffs, one of their men stepped forward, looked, and saw the two doves. He went back and said to his companions: 'There is nothing in the cave. I saw two doves at its mouth, so I knew there was no one inside.' The Prophet ﷺ heard his words and knew that Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, had turned them away by means of those two doves. He blessed them and prescribed their recompense, and they became established in the sanctuary of Allah, hatching young there. I think he said: 'The origin of every dove in the sanctuary is from their offspring.'
