حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ ؓ قَالَ:

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ إِلَى الشَّامِ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ مُعَاذٌ، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَسْجُدُونَ لِأَسَاقِفَتِهِمْ وَبَطَارِقَتِهِمْ أَفَلَا نَسْجُدُ لَكَ ؟ قَالَ: لَا، وَلَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Mu'adh b. Jabal to Syria. When Mu'adh arrived, he said: O Messenger of Allah, I saw the People of the Book prostrating to their bishops and patriarchs; should we not prostrate to you? He said: No. If I were to command anyone to prostrate to anyone, I would command the woman to prostrate to her husband.
