✧ Fasting makes the flesh wither and keeps one away from the heat of the Blaze. Indeed, Allah has a table spread upon which is what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has imagined. None shall sit at it except those who fast.

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ مِنْ مِنًى، فَقَالَ: نَضَّرَ اللهُ امْرَأً سَمِعَ مَقَالَتِي فَحَفِظَهَا، ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَى مَنْ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهَا، فَرُبَّ حَامِلِ فِقْهٍ لَيْسَ بِفَقِيهٍ، وَرُبَّ حَامِلِ فِقْهٍ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أَفْقَهُ مِنْهُ، ثَلَاثٌ لَا يُغِلُّ عَلَيْهِنَّ قَلْبُ امْرِئٍ مُؤْمِنٍ: إِخْلَاصُ الْعَمَلِ لِلهِ، وَالنُّصْحُ لِمَنْ وَلَّاهُ اللهُ عَلَيْكُمُ الْأَمْرَ، وَلُزُومُ جَمَاعَةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ؛ فَإِنَّ دَعْوَتَهُمْ تُحِيطُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us at the mosque of al-Khayf in Mina and said: May Allah brighten [the face of] a person who hears my words and memorizes them, then conveys them to one who has not heard them. For many a bearer of fiqh is not a faqih, and many a bearer of fiqh conveys it to one who has more fiqh than him. Three things do not cause the heart of a believer to harbor treachery: sincerity of action for Allah, sincere counsel to those whom Allah has placed in authority over you, and adhering to the community of Muslims, for their supplication encompasses [them] from behind them.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِأَعْرَابِيٍّ وَهُوَ يَدْعُو فِي صَلَاتِهِ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: يَا مَنْ لَا تَرَاهُ الْعُيُونُ، وَلَا تُخَالِطُهُ الظُّنُونُ، وَلَا يَصِفُهُ الْوَاصِفُونَ، وَلَا تُغَيِّرُهُ الْحَوَادِثُ، وَلَا يَخْشَى الدَّوَائِرَ، يَعْلَمُ مَثَاقِيلَ الْجِبَالِ، وَمَكَايِيلَ الْبِحَارِ، وَعَدَدَ قَطْرِ الْأَمْطَارِ، وَعَدَدَ وَرَقِ الْأَشْجَارِ، وَعَدَدَ مَا أَظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ وَأَشْرَقَ عَلَيْهِ النَّهَارُ، لَا تُوَارِي مِنْهُ سَمَاءٌ سَمَاءً، وَلَا أَرْضٌ أَرْضًا، وَلَا بَحْرٌ مَا فِي قَعْرِهِ، وَلَا جَبَلٌ مَا فِي وَعْرِهِ، اجْعَلْ خَيْرَ عُمُرِي آخِرَهُ، وَخَيْرَ عَمَلِي خَوَاتِمَهُ، وَخَيْرَ أَيَّامِي يَوْمَ أَلْقَاكَ فِيهِ، فَوَكَّلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْأَعْرَابِيِّ رَجُلًا، فَقَالَ: " إِذَا صَلَّى فَائْتِنِي بِهِ "، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى أَتَاهُ، وَقَدْ كَانَ أُهْدِيَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ [... ] ذَهَبٌ مِنْ بَعْضِ الْمَعَادِنِ، فَلَمَّا أَتَاهُ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ وَهَبَ لَهُ الذَّهَبَ، وَقَالَ: " مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ يَا أَعْرَابِيُّ ؟ " قَالَ: مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: " هَلْ تَدْرِي لِمَ وَهَبْتُ لَكَ الذَّهَبَ ؟ " قَالَ: لِلرَّحِمِ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ لِلرَّحِمِ حَقًّا، وَلَكِنْ وَهَبْتُ لَكَ الذَّهَبَ لِحُسْنِ ثَنَائِكَ عَلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a Bedouin while he was supplicating in his prayer, saying: O You whom eyes do not see, and thoughts do not mix with, and describers cannot describe, and events do not change, and who does not fear misfortunes. He knows the weights of mountains, the measures of seas, the number of raindrops, the number of leaves on trees, and the number of what the night darkens upon and the day shines upon. No heaven can conceal from Him another heaven, nor any earth another earth, nor any sea what is in its depths, nor any mountain what is in its rugged paths. Make the best of my life its end, the best of my deeds their final ones, and the best of my days the day I meet You. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ assigned a man to watch the Bedouin and said: When he finishes praying, bring him to me. When he had prayed, the man brought him. Some gold from certain mines had been gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Bedouin came to him, he gave him the gold and said: From which tribe are you, O Bedouin? He said: From Banu Amir b. Sa'sa'ah, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Do you know why I gave you the gold? He said: Because of the kinship between us and you, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Kinship has its right, but I gave you the gold because of your excellent praise of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ، فَقَالَتْ: مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ ؟ قُلْتُ: مِنْ أَهْلِ مِصْرَ، فَقَالَتْ: كَيْفَ وَجَدْتُمُ ابْنَ خَدِيجٍ فِي غَزَاتِكُمْ هَذِهِ ؟ قُلْتُ: وَجَدْنَاهُ خَيْرَ أَمِيرٍ، كُلَّمَا مَاتَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا فَرَسٌ أَعْطَاهُ فَرَسًا، فَقَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ وَلِيَ مِنْ أَمْرِ أُمَّتِي شَيْئًا فَرَفَقَ بِهِمْ فَارْفُقْ بِهِ، وَمَنْ شَقَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَاشْقُقْ عَلَيْهِ
✧ I entered upon A'ishah and she said: From where are you? I said: From the people of Egypt. She said: How did you find Ibn Khadij in this expedition of yours? I said: We found him the best of commanders; whenever a horse of one of our men died, he gave him a horse. She said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: O Allah, whoever is given authority over any affair of my Ummah and is gentle with them, be gentle with him; and whoever makes it hard for them, make it hard for him.

✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ sat in prayer, he placed his left foot under his left thigh, spread his right foot, put his left hand on his knee, put his right hand on his right thigh, and pointed with his finger.

أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ الدَّارَ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ وَهُوَ مَحْصُورٌ فِيهَا، وَأَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ عُثْمَانَ فِي الْكَلَامِ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُ، فَقَامَ، فَحَمِدَ اللهَ، وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي فِتَنًا وَاخْتِلَافًا، فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ: مَنْ لَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ فَقَالَ: " عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْأَمِيرِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ " وَهُوَ يُشِيرُ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ
✧ He entered the house upon ʿUthmān while he was besieged in it, and he heard Abū Hurayrah asking ʿUthmān for permission to speak, so he permitted him. He stood, praised God, and extolled Him, then said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'After me there will be trials and differences.' A man among the people said: 'Who is for us, O Messenger of God?' He said: 'Adhere to the amīr and his companions,' and he was pointing to ʿUthmān.

يُبَايَعُ لِرَجُلٍ بَيْنَ الرُّكْنِ وَالْمَقَامِ عِدَّةُ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ، فَيَأْتِيهِ عَصَائِبُ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ، وَأَبْدَالُ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ، فَيَغْزُوهُ جَيْشٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ خُسِفَ بِهِمْ، فَيَغْزُوهُمْ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ أَخْوَالُهُ مِنْ كَلْبٍ، فَيَلْتَقُونَ، فَيَهْزِمُهُمُ اللهُ، فَالْخَائِبُ مَنْ خَابَ مِنْ غَنِيمَةِ كَلْبٍ
✧ A man will be given allegiance between the Rukn and the Maqām, as many as the people of Badr. Then the bands of the people of Iraq and the abdāl of the people of Syria will come to him. An army from the people of Syria will raid him, until when they are at al-Baydāʾ, they will be swallowed up. Then a man from Quraysh whose maternal uncles are from Kalb will raid them. They will meet, and God will defeat them. So the loser is the one who loses out on the spoils of Kalb.

يَمْلِكُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي أَجْلَى الْجَبْهَةِ، أَقْنَى الْأَنْفِ، يَمْلَأُ الْأَرْضَ قِسْطًا وَعَدْلًا كَمَا مُلِئَتْ ظُلْمًا وَجَوْرًا، يَعِيشُ هَذَا " وَبَسَطَ كَفَّهُ الْيُمْنَى، وَبَسَطَ إِلَى جَنْبِهَا أُصْبُعَيْنِ، وَبَسَطَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى
✧ A man from my household will rule, with a broad forehead and a hooked nose. He will fill the earth with fairness and justice just as it was filled with oppression and tyranny. He will live for this—and he spread his right palm, and spread two fingers beside it, and spread his left palm.

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، ثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو حَدِيثَ الْقَبْرِ، حَدِيثَ زَاذَانَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - ﷺ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ الْأَعْمَشِ. لَمْ يَرْوِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ إِلَّا قَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، وَلَا عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ إِلَّا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، وَلَا عَنْ جَرِيرٍ إِلَّا وَهْبٌ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
✧ Ya'qub b. Ishaq narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Wahb b. Jarir narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us, from Qays b. Sa'd, from al-Hajjaj b. Artah, from al-Minhal b. 'Amr, the hadith of the grave, the hadith of Zadhan, from al-Bara', from the Prophet ﷺ, similar to the hadith of al-A'mash. No one narrated this hadith from al-Hajjaj except Qays b. Sa'd, and no one from Qays b. Sa'd except Jarir b. Hazim, and no one from Jarir except Wahb. Ishaq b. Abi Isra'il was alone in transmitting it.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ ضَمَّرَ الْخَيْلَ وَسَابَقَ بَيْنَهَا، فَرَآنِي رَاكِبًا عَلَى بَعِيرٍ، فَقَالَ: يَا جَابِرُ، لَا تَزَالُ تَتَضَعُهُ أَيْ لَا تَزَالُ تَضْرِبُهُ
✧ The Prophet ﷺ trained horses and made them race. He saw me riding a camel and said: "O Jabir, you will keep on urging it," meaning, you will keep on beating it.

✧ There is no loneliness in their graves or at their resurrection for the people of "La ilaha illallah," and it is as if I am looking at the people of "La ilaha illallah" shaking the dust from their heads and saying: "Praise be to Allah who has removed from us sorrow."

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ set out on a military expedition and said: "No one who has harmed his neighbor may accompany us today." A man from the group said: "I urinated at the base of my neighbor's wall?" He said: "You will not accompany us today."

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ disliked seven parts of the sheep: the gall bladder, the urinary bladder, the uterus, the penis, the two testicles, the gland, and the blood. And the part of the sheep most beloved to the Messenger of God ﷺ was its front portion.

✧ Regarding the words of God, Mighty and Majestic: "Forgiver of sin, Accepter of repentance, severe in punishment, Owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the destination" (Q 40:3). He said: "Forgiver of sin" for the one who says, "There is no deity except God"; "Accepter of repentance" from the one who says, "There is no deity except God"; "severe in punishment" for the one who does not say, "There is no deity except God"; "Owner of abundance" means Owner of richness. "There is no deity except Him"—the disbelievers of Quraysh did not declare His oneness, so He declared His own oneness. "To Him is the destination"—to Him returns the one who says, "There is no deity except God," and he enters Paradise; and the one who does not say, "There is no deity except God" returns, and He will make him enter the Fire.

فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ، قَالَ: الشَّاهِدُ جَدِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَالْمَشْهُودُ: يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ، ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا ثُمَّ تَلَا: ذَلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَجْمُوعٌ لَهُ النَّاسُ وَذَلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَشْهُودٌ
✧ Regarding the words of God, Mighty and Majestic: "And by the witness and the witnessed" (Q 85:3). He said: The witness is my grandfather, the Messenger of God ﷺ, and the witnessed is the Day of Resurrection. Then he recited this verse: "Indeed, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of good tidings, and a warner" (Q 48:8). Then he recited: "That is a day for which the people will be assembled, and that is a day witnessed" (Q 11:103).

جَاءَ أَعْرَابٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نَحْرِ الظَّهِيرَةِ، مُتَقَلِّدِي السُّيُوفِ مُجْتَابِي النِّمَارِ، فَحَثَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَقَالَ: لِيَتَصَدَّقْ ذُو الدِّينَارِ مِنْ دِينَارِهِ، وَذُو الدِّرْهَمِ مِنْ دِرْهَمِهِ، وَذُو الْبُرِّ مِنْ بُرِّهِ، وَذُو الشَّعِيرِ مِنْ شَعِيرِهِ، وَذُو التَّمْرِ مِنْ تَمْرِهِ، مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمٌ، فَيَنْظُرَ أَمَامَهُ فَلَا يَرَى إِلَّا النَّارَ، وَيَنْظُرَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَلَا يَرَى إِلَّا النَّارَ، وَيَنْظُرَ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ فَلَا يَرَى إِلَّا النَّارَ، وَيَنْظُرَ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ فَلَا يَرَى إِلَّا النَّارَ، فَلَا يَرَى شَيْئًا يَتَّقِي بِوَجْهِهِ النَّارَ
✧ Some Bedouins came to the Messenger of God ﷺ at midday, wearing swords and wrapped in striped cloaks. The Messenger of God ﷺ urged the people to give them charity, saying: "Let the owner of a dinar give from his dinar, the owner of a dirham from his dirham, the owner of wheat from his wheat, the owner of barley from his barley, and the owner of dates from his dates, before a day comes upon him when he will look ahead and see nothing but the Fire, look to his right and see nothing but the Fire, look to his left and see nothing but the Fire, look behind him and see nothing but the Fire, and he will not find anything with which to protect his face from the Fire."

✧ Indeed, the people of Paradise will see the people of the highest chambers just as the people of this world see a brilliant star in the sky. And indeed, Abu Bakr and 'Umar will be among them, and how excellent they are.

دَخَلْنَا عَلَى الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ وَهُوَ أَمِيرٌ عَلَى الْكُوفَةِ، وَعِنْدَهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، فَدَخَلَ غُنَيْمُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ، فَقَالَ: مَنْ عَلِيٌّ ؟ فَقَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: أَبُو بَكْرٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَعُمَرُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَعَلِيٌّ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَعُثْمَانُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ
✧ We entered upon al-Mughira b. Shu'ba while he was governor of Kufa, and Sa'id b. Zayd was with him. Ghunaym b. 'Alqama entered and said: "Who is 'Ali?" Sa'id b. Zayd b. 'Amr b. Nufayl said: "I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'Abu Bakr is in Paradise, 'Umar is in Paradise, 'Ali is in Paradise, and 'Uthman is in Paradise.'"
