" صَلَّيْتُ أَنَا وَعِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ خَلْفَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ صَلَاةً، فَكَانَ إِذَا سَجَدَ كَبَّرَ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ كَبَّرَ، وَإِذَا نَهَضَ مِنَ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ كَبَّرَ، فَلَمَّا قَضَيْنَا الصَّلَاةَ أَخَذَ عِمْرَانُ بِيَدِي فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ ذَكَّرَنَا هَذَا صَلَاةَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ - أَوْ قَالَ: صَلَّى بِنَا صَلَاةَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ
✧ I and ʿImrān b. Ḥuṣayn prayed behind ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib. When he prostrated he said the takbīr, and when he raised his head he said the takbīr, and when he rose from the two prostrations he said the takbīr. When we finished the prayer, ʿImrān took my hand and said: This has reminded us of the prayer of Muḥammad ﷺ — or he said: He led us in the prayer of Muḥammad ﷺ.

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ " جَمَعَ بَيْنَ حَجٍّ وَعُمْرَةٍ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنْهَ عَنْهُ وَلَمْ يَنْزِلْ قُرْآنٌ يُحَرِّمُهُ، وَإِنَّهُ قَدْ كَانَ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيَّ، فَلَمَّا اكْتَوَيْتُ انْقَطَعَ عَنِّي، فَلَمَّا تَرَكْتُ عَادَ إِلَيَّ "؛ يَعْنِي الْمَلَائِكَةَ
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ combined ḥajj and ʿumrah, then he did not forbid it and no Qurʾān came down to prohibit it. And he used to greet me, but when I cauterized myself it was cut off from me. When I abandoned it, it returned to me — meaning the angels.

✧ It was said to the Prophet ﷺ: Is it known who are the people of Paradise and who are the people of the Fire? He said: Yes. He said: Then why do the workers work? He said: Each works for what he was created for and for what was made easy for him.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ عَلِيًّا فِي جَيْشٍ فَرَأَوْا مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَأَنْكَرُوهُ، فَاتَّفَقَ نَفَرٌ أَرْبَعَةٌ وَتَعَاقَدُوا أَنْ يُخْبِرُوا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِمَا صَنَعَ عَلِيٌّ، قَالَ عِمْرَانُ: وَكُنَّا إِذَا قَدِمْنَا مِنْ سَفَرٍ لَمْ نَأْتِ أَهْلَنَا حَتَّى نَأْتِيَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَنُسَلِّمَ عَلَيْهِ وَنَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهِ، فَجَاءَ النَّفَرُ الْأَرْبَعَةُ فَقَامَ أَحَدُهُمْ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا صَنَعَ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَامَ الثَّانِي فَقَالَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَامَ الثَّالِثُ فَقَالَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَامَ الرَّابِعُ فَقَالَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَا لَهُمْ وَلِعَلِيٍّ ! إِنَّ عَلِيًّا مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ، وَهُوَ وَلِيُّ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ بَعْدِي
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent ʿAlī with an army. They saw something from him and disapproved of it. Four men agreed and pledged to inform the Prophet ﷺ of what ʿAlī had done. ʿImrān said: When we returned from a journey we would not go to our families until we came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, greeted him, and looked at him. The four men came; one of them stood and said: O Messenger of God, did you not see that ʿAlī did such and such? But he turned away from him. Then the second stood and said the same, and he turned away from him. Then the third stood and said the same, and he turned away from him. Then the fourth stood and said the same. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: What have they to do with ʿAlī? Indeed ʿAlī is from me and I am from him, and he is the guardian of every believer after me.

أَنَّهُ كَانَ لَهُ امْرَأَتَانِ، فَأَتَى إِحْدَاهُمَا فَقَالَتْ: أَمِنْ عِنْدِ فُلَانَةَ جِئْتَ ؟ تَعْنِي امْرَأَتَهُ الْأُخْرَى، فَقَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنْ مِنْ عِنْدِ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، فَحَدَّثَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: أَقَلُّ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ النِّسَاءُ
✧ He had two wives. He came to one of them and she said: Have you come from so-and-so? — meaning his other wife. He said: No, but from ʿImrān b. Ḥuṣayn. He related that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: The fewest of the people of Paradise are women.

✧ An old man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, my son has died, what do I inherit from him? He said: You get one-sixth. When he turned away, he called him and said: You get another sixth. When he left, he called him and said: The other sixth is a gift.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي سَفَرٍ إِذْ رَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ بِالْآيَتَيْنِ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: وَلَكِنَّ عَذَابَ اللهِ شَدِيدٌ، قَالَ: فَحَثُّوا الْمَطِيَّ وَعَرَفُوا أَنَّهُ عِنْدَ قَوْلٍ يَقُولُهُ، فَلَمَّا تَأَشَّبُوا حَوْلَهُ قَالَ: " أَتَدْرُونَ أَيُّ يَوْمٍ ذَاكُمْ ؟ "، قَالُوا: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ. قَالَ: " ذَاكَ يَوْمٌ يَقُولُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِآدَمَ: يَا آدَمُ، قُمْ فَابْعَثْ بَعْثَ النَّارِ. قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ، وَمَا بَعْثُ النَّارِ ؟ قَالَ: مِنْ كُلِّ أَلْفٍ تِسْعُمِائَةٍ وَتِسْعَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ إِلَى النَّارِ وَوَاحِدٌ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ "، فَأُبْلِسُوا حَتَّى مَا أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ يُبْدِي عَنْ وَاضِحَةٍ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: اعْمَلُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنَّكُمْ لَمَعَ خَلِيقَتَيْنِ مَا كَانُوا فِي شَيْءٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا كَثَّرَتَاهُ مَعَ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ، وَمَنْ هَلَكَ مِنْ وَلَدِ آدَمَ وَوَلَدِ إِبْلِيسَ، اعْمَلُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا أَنْتُمْ فِي النَّاسِ إِلَّا كَالشَّامَةِ فِي جَنْبِ الْبَعِيرِ أَوْ كَالرَّقْمَةِ فِي ذِرَاعِ الدَّابَّةِ
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ was on a journey when he raised his voice reciting the two verses: “O people, fear your Lord” up to His saying: “but the punishment of God is severe.” He said: So they urged their mounts and knew that he was about to say something. When they gathered around him, he said: Do you know what day that is? They said: God and His Messenger know best. He said: That is the day when God, Mighty and Exalted, says to Adam: O Adam, arise and send forth the delegation of the Fire. He says: O Lord, what is the delegation of the Fire? He says: From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine to the Fire and one to Paradise. They were struck with despair until none of them showed his teeth. When the Messenger of God ﷺ saw that, he said: Work and rejoice, for by Him in whose hand is my soul, you are with two creations that never appear in anything but they multiply it: Gog and Magog, and those who perished from the children of Adam and the children of Iblīs. Work and rejoice, for by Him in whose hand is my soul, you are among people only like a mole on the side of a camel or a mark on the foreleg of a beast.

قَلَّمَا قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا حَثَّنَا فِيهَا عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ وَنَهَانَا عَنِ الْمُثْلَةِ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّ مِنَ الْمُثْلَةِ أَنْ يَنْذِرَ أَنْ يَخْرِمَ أَنْفَهُ، وَمِنَ الْمُثْلَةِ أَنْ يَنْذِرَ أَنْ يَحُجَّ مَاشِيًا، فَإِذَا نَذَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَحُجَّ مَاشِيًا فَلْيُهْدِ هَدْيًا وَلْيَرْكَبْ
✧ Rarely did the Messenger of God ﷺ stand among us without urging us to give charity and forbidding us from mutilation. He said: It is mutilation to vow to cut off one's nose, and it is mutilation to vow to perform ḥajj on foot. If one of you vows to perform ḥajj on foot, let him offer a sacrificial animal and ride.

كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَنَامُوا، فَمَا اسْتَيْقَظُوا حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَصَلَّوْا وَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَلَا نَزِيدُ فِي صَلَاتِنَا ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يَنْهَاكُمُ اللهُ عَنِ الرِّبَا وَيَقْبَلُهُ مِنْكُمْ !
✧ He was on a journey, and they slept and did not wake until the sun had risen. So they prayed and said, 'O Messenger of God, should we add to our prayer?' The Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'God forbids you from usury, yet He accepts it from you!'

أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَوْ مُزَيْنَةَ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ مَا يَعْمَلُ النَّاسُ فِيهِ، أَمْرٌ قُضِيَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ قَدَرٍ وَسَبَقَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ قَدَرٍ قَدْ سَبَقَ أَوْ شَيْءٌ جِئْتَهُمْ بِهِ تَتَّخِذُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْحُجَّةَ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: بَلْ مَا قُضِيَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَقُدِّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ قَدَرٍ قَدْ سَبَقَ. قَالَ: فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَلِمَ يَعْمَلُونَ ؟ قَالَ: " اعْمَلُوا؛ فَكُلٌّ مُيَسَّرٌ لِمَا خُلِقَ لَهُ "، وَتَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا
✧ A man from Juhaynah or Muzaynah asked the Messenger of God ﷺ, saying, 'O Messenger of God, what do you think of the deeds that people do? Is it a matter that has been decreed upon them from destiny and a destiny that has already preceded them, or something that you have brought to them by which you establish proof against them?' The Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Rather, it is what has been decreed upon them and destined for them from a destiny that has already preceded.' He said, 'O Messenger of God, then why do they work?' He said, 'Work, for everyone is facilitated toward what he was created for.' Then he recited this verse: 'By the soul and He who proportioned it, and inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness.'

✧ "The Messenger of God ﷺ prayed the noon or afternoon prayer as three rak'ahs, then gave the salutation. A man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ called Ibn al-Khirbaq said, 'Has the prayer been shortened?' So the Prophet ﷺ asked, and it was as he had said. He then prayed one rak'ah, gave the salutation, then prostrated twice, then gave the salutation."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى مِنَ الزِّنَا، فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَلِيَّهَا أَنْ يُحْسِنَ إِلَيْهَا، فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ حَمْلَهَا فَأْتِنِي بِهَا. فَفَعَلَ، فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَشُكَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَتُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ ؟ فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ، وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ شَيْئًا أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلهِ
✧ A woman from Juhaynah came to the Prophet ﷺ while she was pregnant from fornication. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered her guardian to treat her well, and when she had delivered her child, to bring her to him. He did so, and the Prophet ordered that her garments be fastened around her, then ordered that she be stoned. Then he prayed over her. Umar said to him: O Messenger of Allah, you pray over her and she had fornicated? He said: She has repented with such a repentance that if it were divided among the people of Madinah, it would suffice them. And have you found anything better than her giving herself for Allah?

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the noon prayer with his companions, then said: "Which of you recited 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High'?" A man said: I did. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I knew that someone was contending with me in it."

✧ "The best of my community is the generation in which I was sent, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then there will come a people who make vows but do not fulfill them, who betray and are not trusted, who give testimony but are not asked to, and among whom obesity spreads."

✧ "Modesty brings nothing but good." Bushayr b. Ka'b said: In wisdom it is said: Indeed, from modesty comes dignity, and from modesty comes weakness. Imran said: I narrate to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and you narrate to me from the scriptures!

كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَنَزَلَ فَنَامَ، وَقَالَ لِبِلَالٍ: " أَيْقِظْنَا لِصَلَاتِنَا، فَمَا اسْتَيْقَظُوا إِلَّا بِحَرِّ الشَّمْسِ فِي أَعْجَازِهِمْ أَوْ مُتُونِهِمْ، فَقَالَ: " ارْتَحِلُوا مِنْ هَذَا الْمَكَانِ "، فَارْتَحَلُوا، ثُمَّ نَزَلُوا فَقَالَ لِبِلَالٍ: " مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُوقِظَنَا ؟ "، قَالَ: أَنَامَنِي الَّذِي أَنَامَكُمْ، قَالَ: فَتَيَمَّمُوا الصَّعِيدَ - وَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَأَذَّنَ وَصَلَّوُا الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّوُا الصُّبْحَ
✧ He was on a journey, so he stopped and slept, and said to Bilal: "Wake us for our prayer." They did not wake up except by the heat of the sun on their backs or shoulders. He said: "Depart from this place," so they departed. Then they stopped, and he said to Bilal: "What prevented you from waking us?" He said: The One who put you to sleep put me to sleep. He said: So they performed tayammum with the earth—and he ordered Bilal, so he gave the call to prayer, and they prayed two rak'ahs. Then he stood and they prayed the morning prayer.

سَأَلَ شَابٌّ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي السَّفَرِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ هَذَا الْفَتَى سَأَلَنِي عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي السَّفَرِ فَاحْفَظُوهُنَّ عَنِّي؛ مَا سَافَرْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ سَفَرًا قَطُّ إِلَّا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ، وَشَهِدْتُ مَعَهُ حُنَيْنًا وَالطَّائِفَ فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ حَجَجْتُ مَعَهُ وَاعْتَمَرْتُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ، أَتِمُّوا الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنَّا قَوْمٌ سَفْرٌ، ثُمَّ حَجَجْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَاعْتَمَرْتُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: " يَا أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ، أَتِمُّوا فَإِنَّا قَوْمٌ سَفْرٌ "، ثُمَّ حَجَجْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ وَاعْتَمَرْتُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَتِمُّوا الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنَّا قَوْمٌ سَفْرٌ، ثُمَّ حَجَجْتُ مَعَ عُثْمَانَ وَاعْتَمَرْتُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ إِنَّ عُثْمَانَ أَتَمَّ
✧ A young man asked Imran b. Husayn about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while traveling. He said: This young man asked me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while traveling, so memorize from me: I never traveled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on any journey except that he prayed two rak'ahs until he returned. I witnessed with him Hunayn and al-Ta'if, and he prayed two rak'ahs. Then I performed Hajj and Umrah with him, and he prayed two rak'ahs. Then he said: O people of Makkah, complete the prayer, for we are a traveling people. Then I performed Hajj and Umrah with Abu Bakr, and he prayed two rak'ahs. Then he said: "O people of Makkah, complete the prayer, for we are a traveling people." Then I performed Hajj and Umrah with Umar, and he prayed two rak'ahs. Then he said: Complete the prayer, for we are a traveling people. Then I performed Hajj and Umrah with Uthman, and he prayed two rak'ahs, two rak'ahs. Then indeed Uthman completed it.
