47. Sacrifices

  1. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5897Sahih

    «مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ فَلَا يُقَلِّمْ أَظْفَارَهُ وَلَا يَحْلِقْ شَيْئًا مِنْ شَعْرِهِ فِي الْعَشْرِ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ»

    "Ibn Al-Musayyab told me that Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet told him that the Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever wants to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove anything from his nails or cut his hair for the first ten days Dhul-Jijjah."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4362)

  2. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5898Sahih

    أَعْطَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ غَنَمًا أَقْسِمُهَا عَلَى أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَسَمْتُهَا فَبَقِيَ مِنْهَا عَتُودٌ فَذَكَرْتُهُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «ضَحِّ بِهِ أَنْتَ»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me sheep to distribute among his companions. I distributed them, and a young goat remained. I mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, 'Sacrifice it yourself.'

  3. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5899Hasan sahih

    قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ غَنَمًا لِلضَّحَايَا فَأَعْطَانِي عَتُودًا مِنَ الْمَعْزِ فَجِئْتُهُ بِهِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ جَذَعٌ فَقَالَ «ضَحِّ بِهِ»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed sheep for sacrifices among his companions and gave me a young goat. I brought it to him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, it is a jadhaʿ (one-year-old).' He said, 'Sacrifice it.'

  4. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5900Sahih

    «ضَحَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِكَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ يُسَمِّي وَيُكَبِّرُ وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ يَذْبَحُ بِيَدِهِ وَاضِعًا قَدَمَهُ عَلَى صِفَاحِهِمَا»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed two salt-and-white rams with horns. He pronounced the name of Allah and said Allahu Akbar. I saw him slaughter them with his own hand, placing his foot on their sides.

  5. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5901Sahih

    «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُضَحِّي بِكَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ وَكَانَ يُسَمِّي وَيُكَبِّرُ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ يَذْبَحُهُمَا بِيَدِهِ وَاضِعًا عَلَى صِفَاحِهِمَا قَدَمَهُ»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sacrifice two salt-and-white rams with horns. He would pronounce the name of Allah and say Allahu Akbar. I saw him slaughter them with his own hand, placing his foot on their sides.

  6. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5902Sahih

    «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ ضَحَّى بِكَبْشٍ أَقْرَنَ فَحِيلٍ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَوَادٍ وَيَنْظُرُ فِي سَوَادٍ وَيَشْرَبُ فِي سَوَادٍ»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed a horned ram that was dark around the eyes, mouth, and feet, eating in blackness, looking in blackness, and drinking in blackness.

  7. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5903Sahih

    رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ أَتَى عَلَى رَجُلٍ قَدْ أَنَاخَ بَدَنَتَهُ يَنْحَرُهَا قَالَ «ابْعَثْهَا قِيَامًا مُقَيَّدَةً سُنَّةُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ»

    ✧ I saw Ibn ʿUmar come upon a man who had made his camel kneel down in order to slaughter it. He said, 'Make it stand up with its leg tied; that is the Sunnah of Muhammad ﷺ.'

  8. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5904Sahih

    «ضَحَّيْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْجَذَعَ مِنَ الضَّأْنِ»

    ✧ We sacrificed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a jadhaʿ (one-year-old) from sheep.

  9. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5905Sahih

    أَنَّ أَبَا بُرْدَةَ بْنَ نِيَارٍ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَذْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْأَضْحَى فَزَعَمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُعِيدَ أُضْحِيَّةً أَخِّرِي قَالَ أَبُو بُرْدَةَ لَا أَجِدُ إِلَّا جَذَعًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «وَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدْ إِلَّا جَذَعًا فَاذْبَحْهُ»

    ✧ Abū Burdah b. Niyār slaughtered before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ slaughtered on the day of sacrifice. He claimed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him to repeat the sacrifice. Abū Burdah said, 'I have nothing but a jadhaʿ (one-year-old).' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Even if you have nothing but a jadhaʿ, slaughter it.'

  10. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5906Sahih

    أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ «أَوَّلُ مَا نَبْدَأُ يَوْمَنَا هَذَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ ثُمَّ نَنْحَرَ فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ أَصَابَ سُنَّتَنَا وَمَنْ تَعَجَّلَ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ لَحْمٌ قَدَّمَهُ لِأَهْلِهِ» قَالَ وَكَانَ أَبُو بُرْدَةَ بْنُ نِيَارٍ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عِنْدِيَ جَذَعَةً خَيْرٌ مِنْ مُسِنَّةٍ قَالَ «اجْعَلْهَا مَكَانَهَا وَلَنْ تُجْزِئَ أَوْ تُوُفِّيَ عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ»

    ✧ He said on the day of Eid: "The first thing we begin with on this day of ours is to pray, then to slaughter. Whoever does that has hit upon our Sunnah, and whoever hastens, it is only meat he has offered ahead to his family." He said: Abu Burdah b. Niyar had slaughtered before the prayer, so he said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have a jadha'ah that is better than a musinnah." He said: "Put it in its place, but it will not suffice, or be fulfilled, for anyone after you."

    كُنَّا عِنْدَ سَارِيَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَوْ كُنْتُ ثَمَّ لَأَخْبَرْتُكُمْ بِمَوْضِعِهَا قَالَ خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا نَبْدَأُ بِهِ فِي يَوْمِنَا هَذَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ ثُمَّ نَرْجِعَ فَنَنْحَرَ فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ أَصَابَ سُنَّتَنَا وَمَنْ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ لَحْمٌ قَدَّمَهُ لِأَهْلِهِ لَيْسَ مِنَ النُّسُكِ فِي شَيْءٍ» قَالَ وَذَبَحَ خَالِي أَبُو بُرْدَةَ بْنُ نِيَارٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي ذَبَحْتُ وَعِنْدِي جَذَعَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ مُسِنَّةٍ قَالَ «اجْعَلْهَا مَكَانَهَا وَلَا تُجْزِئُ عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ»

    ✧ We were at the pillar of the mosque, and if I were there I would tell you its location. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said: "The first thing we begin with on this day of ours is to pray, then return and slaughter. Whoever does that has hit upon our Sunnah, and whoever slaughters before that, it is only meat he has offered ahead to his family, not part of the sacrifice in any way." He said: My maternal uncle Abu Burdah b. Niyar slaughtered, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have slaughtered, and I have a jadha'ah that is better than a musinnah." He said: "Put it in its place, but it will not suffice for anyone after you."

  12. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5908Sahih

    «مَنْ وَجَّهَ قِبْلَتَنَا وَصَلَّى صَلَاتَنَا وَنَسَكَ نُسُكَنَا فَلَا يَذْبَحْ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ فَقَالَ خَالِي أَبُو بُرْدَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي نَسَكْتُ عَنِ ابْنٍ لِي قَالَ » ذَاكَ شَيْءٌ عَجَّلْتَهُ لِأَهْلِكَ « قَالَ فَإِنَّ عِنْدِيَ جَذَعَةً قَالَ » ضَحِّ بِهَا عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهَا خَيْرُ نُسُكِهِ

    ✧ "Whoever faces our qiblah, prays our prayer, and performs our sacrifice, let him not slaughter until he prays." My maternal uncle Abu Burdah said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have sacrificed on behalf of a son of mine." He said: "That is something you hastened for your family." He said: "I have a jadha'ah." He said: "Sacrifice it on his behalf, for it is the best of his sacrifice."

  13. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5909Sahih

    أَنَّ رَجُلًا ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «لَا يُجْزِئُ عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ أَنْ يَذْبَحَ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ»

    ✧ A man slaughtered before the Prophet ﷺ prayed, so the Prophet ﷺ said: "It will not suffice for anyone after you to slaughter until he prays."

  14. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5910Sahih

    خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «مَنْ صَلَّى صَلَاتَنَا وَنَسَكَ نُسُكَنَا فَقَدْ أَصَابَ النُّسُكَ وَمَنْ نَسَكَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ فَتِلْكَ شَاةُ لَحْمٍ» قَالَ أَبُو بُرْدَةَ بْنُ نِيَارٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَقَدْ نَسَكْتُ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّ الْيَوْمَ يَوْمُ أَكْلٍ وَشُرْبٍ فَتَعَجَّلْتُ فَأَكَلْتُ وَأَطْعَمْتُ أَهْلِي وَجِيرَانِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «تِلْكَ شَاةُ لَحْمٍ» قَالَ فَإِنَّ عِنْدِي عَنَاقًا جَذَعَةً خَيْرٌ مِنْ شَاتَيْ لَحْمٍ فَهَلْ تُجْزِئُ عَنِّي؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ تُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ وَلَنْ تُجْزِئَ عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us on the Day of Sacrifice after the prayer, then said: "Whoever prays our prayer and performs our sacrifice has hit upon the sacrifice, and whoever sacrifices before the prayer, that is a meat sheep." Abu Burdah b. Niyar said: "O Messenger of Allah, I sacrificed before I went out to the prayer, and I knew that today is a day of eating and drinking, so I hastened and ate and fed my family and neighbors." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "That is a meat sheep." He said: "I have a jadha'ah kid that is better than two meat sheep; will it suffice for me?" He said: "Yes, it will suffice for you, but it will not suffice for anyone after you."

  15. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5911Sahih

    أَنَّ خَالِيَ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «شَاتُكَ شَاةُ لَحْمٍ وَلَيْسَ مِنَ النُّسُكِ فِي شَيْءٍ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَعِنْدِي عَنَاقٌ جَذَعَةٌ هِيَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ مُسِنَّةٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «تُوفِي عَنْكَ وَلَا تُوفِي عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ»

    ✧ My maternal uncle slaughtered before the Prophet ﷺ prayed, so the Prophet ﷺ said: "Your sheep is a meat sheep, not part of the sacrifice in any way." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have a jadha'ah kid that is better than a musinnah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "It will be fulfilled for you, but it will not be fulfilled for anyone after you."

  16. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5912Sahih

    أَنَّهُ «ذَبَحَ أُضْحِيَّةً قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْدُوَ يَوْمَ الْأَضْحَى وَأَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُعِيدَ أُضْحِيَّةً أُخْرَى»

    ✧ He slaughtered a sacrificial animal before he went out on the Day of Sacrifice, and he mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him to repeat another sacrificial animal.

  17. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5913Sahih

    ضَحَّيْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَإِذَا نَاسٌ ذَبَحُوا ضَحَايَاهُمْ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ رَآهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَدْ ذَبَحُوا قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ «مَنْ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ فَلْيَذْبَحْ مَكَانَهَا أُخْرَى وَمَنْ لَمْ يَذْبَحْ حَتَّى صَلَّيْنَا فَلْيَذْبَحْ عَلَى اسْمِ اللَّهِ»

    ✧ We sacrificed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and there were people who slaughtered their sacrificial animals before the prayer. When he finished, the Prophet ﷺ saw that they had slaughtered before the prayer, and said: "Whoever slaughtered before the prayer, let him slaughter another in its place, and whoever has not slaughtered until we prayed, let him slaughter in the name of Allah."

  18. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5914Weak

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ «أُمِرْتُ بِيَوْمِ الْأَضْحَى عِيدًا جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ لِهَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ» فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ أَجِدْ إِلَّا مَنِيحَةَ أُنْثَى أَفَأُضَحِّي بِهَا؟ قَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنْ تَأْخُذُ مِنْ شَعْرِكَ وَتُقَلِّمُ أَظْفَارَكَ وَتَحْلِقُ عَانَتَكَ وَتَقُصُّ شَارِبَكَ فَذَلِكَ تَمَامُ أُضْحِيَتِكَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ said to a man: "I was commanded with the Day of Sacrifice as an Eid that Allah made for this community." The man said: "What do you think if I find only a female manihah (lent milking animal); should I sacrifice it?" He said: "No, but you should take from your hair, trim your nails, shave your pubic area, and clip your moustache; that is the completion of your sacrifice with Allah."

  19. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5915Sahih

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِكَبْشٍ أَقْرَنَ يَطَأُ فِي سَوَادٍ وَيَنْظُرُ فِي سَوَادٍ وَيَبْرُكُ فِي سَوَادٍ فَأَتَى بِهِ لِيُضَحِّيَ بِهِ قَالَ ﷺ «يَا عَائِشَةُ هَلُمِّي الْمُدْيَةَ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «حُدِّيهَا بِحَجَرٍ» فَفَعَلْتُ فَأَخَذَهَا وَأَخَذَ الْكَبْشَ فَأَضْجَعَهُ ثُمَّ ذَبَحَهُ وَقَالَ «بِسْمِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَمِنْ أُمَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ» ثُمَّ ضَحَّى بِهِ ﷺ

    ✧ A horned ram was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, which treads in blackness, looks in blackness, and kneels in blackness; he brought it to sacrifice it. He ﷺ said: "O Aishah, bring the knife." Then he said: "Sharpen it with a stone." So I did, and he took it and took the ram and laid it down, then slaughtered it and said: "In the name of Allah. O Allah, in Your name, from Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and the community of Muhammad." Then he sacrificed it ﷺ.

  20. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5916Hasan

    «إِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمْ هِلَالَ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ فَلْيُمْسِكْ عَنْ شَعْرِهِ وَأَظْفَارِهِ»

    that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If anyone of you has seen the crescent of Dhū al-Ḥijjah and one of you want to offer a sacrifice ˹on the Day of Naḥr˺, then he should hold back ˹cutting˺ his hair and nails." (Using translation from Muslim 1977e)

  21. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5917Hasan

    «مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ ذِبْحٌ يَذْبَحُهُ فَإِذَا أَهَلَّ هِلَالُ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَلَا يَأْخُذْ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ وَلَا مِنْ أَظْفَارِهِ حَتَّى يُضَحِّيَ»

    He who has a sacrificial animal with him whom (he intends) to offer as sacrifice, and he enters the month of Dhu'I-Hijja, he should not get his hair cut or nails trimmed until he has sacrificed the animal. (Using translation from Muslim 1977g)

  22. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5918Hasan

    كُنَّا فِي الْحَمَّامِ قُبَيْلَ الْأَضْحَى فَإِذَا أُنَاسٌ قَدِ اطَّلَوْا فَقَالَ بَعْضُ مَنْ فِي الْحَمَّامِ إِنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ يَكْرَهُ هَذَا وَيَنْهَى عَنْهُ قَالَ فَلَقِيتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ ابْنَ أَخِي إِنَّ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ قَدْ نُسِيَ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا دَخَلَ الْعَشْرُ وَعِنْدَ أَحَدِكُمْ ذِبْحٌ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَذْبَحَهُ فَلْيُمْسِكْ عَنْ شَعْرِهِ وَأَظْفَارِهِ»

    ✧ We were in the bathhouse shortly before Eid al-Adha, and there were people who had applied depilatory paste. Some of those in the bathhouse said: "Sa'id b. al-Musayyib dislikes this and forbids it." He said: I met Sa'id b. al-Musayyib and mentioned that to him, and he said: "O son of my brother, this is a hadith that has been forgotten. Umm Salamah told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When the ten days enter, and one of you has a sacrificial animal that he intends to slaughter, let him refrain from his hair and nails.'"

  23. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5919Sahih

    أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ الْأَضَاحِيَّ فَقَالَ أَشَارَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ وَيَدِي أَقْصَرُ مِنْ يَدِهِ فَقَالَ «أَرْبَعٌ لَا يُضَحَّى بِهِنَّ الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ ظَلَعُهَا وَالْعَجْفَاءُ الَّتِي لَا تُنْقِي» فَقَالُوا لِلْبَرَاءِ فَإِنَّمَا نَكْرَهُ النَّقْصَ فِي السِّنِّ وَالْأُذُنِ وَالذَّنَبِ قَالَ «فَاكْرَهُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ وَلَا تُحَرِّمُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ»

    ✧ He mentioned sacrificial animals and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gestured with his hand, and my hand is shorter than his hand, and said: "Four are not to be sacrificed: the one-eyed whose blindness is evident, the sick whose sickness is evident, the lame whose lameness is evident, and the emaciated one that has no marrow." They said to al-Bara': "We only dislike defects in age, ear, and tail." He said: "Dislike whatever you wish, but do not forbid it to the people."

  24. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5920Hasan sahih

    «أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَسْتَشْرِفَ الْعَيْنَ وَالْأُذُنَ»

    ✧ «The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to scrutinize the eye and the ear.»

  25. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5921Sahih

    «لَا يَجُوزُ مِنَ الضَّحَايَا أَرْبَعٌ الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَرَجُهَا وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا وَالْعَجْفَاءُ الَّتِي لَا تُنْقِي»

    ✧ «Four are not permissible among sacrificial animals: the one-eyed whose defect is evident, the lame whose limp is evident, the sick whose illness is evident, and the emaciated that has no marrow.»

  26. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5922Sahih

    سَأَئلْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ مَا كَرِهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ؟ فَقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَرْبَعٌ لَا تَجُوزُ فِي الْأَضْحَى الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَرَجُهَا وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا وَالْكَسِيرُ الَّتِي لَا تُنْقِي»

    ✧ I asked Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked about sacrificial animals. He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are four types that are not permissible in the sacrificial animals of Eid Al-Adha: a lame animal with a visible limp, a blind animal with visible blindness, a sick animal with evident sickness, and an animal that is emaciated and cannot be fattened."

    عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ «لَا يَأْكُلَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ لَحْمِ أُضْحِيَتِهِ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثِ أَيَّامٍ»

    ✧ From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he used to say: «None of you should eat from the meat of his sacrificial animal beyond three days.»

    the Messenger of Allah forbade eating the meat of the sacrificial animals after three days then he said: "Eat, take some with you (if traveling). And store some." ( Sahih) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4426)

    «نَهَى عَنْ لُحُومِ الْأَضَاحِيِّ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ رَخَّصَ أَنْ نَأْكُلَ وَنَدَّخِرَ» فَقَدِمَ قَتَادَةُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ أَخُو أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ فَقَدَّمُوا إِلَيْهِ مِنْ قَدِيدِ الْأَضْحَى فَقَالَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ نَهَى عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ «إِنَّهُ قَدْ حَدَثَ فِيهِ بَعْدَكَ أَمْرٌ كَانَ نَهَانَا عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَحْبِسَهُ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ رَخَّصَ أَنْ نَأْكُلَ وَنَدَّخِرَ»

    ✧ «He forbade the meat of sacrificial animals beyond three days; then he permitted that we eat and store.» Qatadah b. al-Nuʿman, the brother of Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, arrived, and they offered him some dried meat of the sacrifice. He said: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not forbid it? Abu Saʿid said: «A matter occurred concerning it after you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden us to keep it beyond three days; then he permitted that we eat and store.»

    «نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ أَكْلِ لُحُومِ الضَّحَايَا بَعْدَ ثَلَاثٍ»

    ✧ «The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade eating the meat of sacrificial animals after three.»

    «يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ لَا تَأْكُلُوا لُحُومَ الْأَضَاحِيِّ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ» قَالَ فَشَكَوْا إِلَيْهِ أَنَّ لَهُمُ عِيَالًا وَخَدَمًا فَقَالَ «كُلُوا وَأَطْعِمُوا وَاحْبِسُوا»

    ✧ «O people of Madinah, do not eat the meat of sacrificial animals beyond three days.» They complained to him that they had families and servants, so he said: «Eat, feed, and store.»

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَوْمَ الْأَضْحَى «مَنْ ضَحَّى مِنْكُمْ فَلَا يُصْبِحْ بَعْدَ ثَالِثَةٍ فِي بَيْتِهِ شَيْءٌ مِنْ أُضْحِيَتِهِ» فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْعَامُ الْمُقْبِلُ يَوْمَ الْأَضْحَى قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَفْعَلُ فِي هَذَا كَمَا فَعَلْنَا فِي الْعَامِ الْمَاضِي؟ قَالَ «لَا كَانَ النَّاسُ بِجَهْدٍ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ تُعِينُوا فِيهَا كُلُوا وَأَطْعِمُوا وَادَّخِرُوا»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of sacrifice: «Whoever among you sacrifices should not find after the third day anything of his sacrificial animal in his house.» When the next year came, on the day of sacrifice, they said: O Messenger of Allah, should we do as we did last year? He said: «No, the people were in hardship, so I wanted you to assist them. Eat, feed, and store.»

    «أَكَلْنَا الْقَدِيدَ مَعَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ»

    ✧ «We ate dried meat with the Prophet of Allah ﷺ on the way to Madinah.»

    «كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَتَزَوَّدُ لَحْمَ الْأَضْحَى إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ»

    ✧ «We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, taking provisions of the meat of sacrificial animals to Madinah.»

  36. Sahih Ibn Hibban 5932Sahih

    قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَصْلِحْ لَحْمَ هَذِهِ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ» فَأَصْلَحْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ حَتَّى بَلَغَ الْمَدِينَةَ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: «Preserve the meat of this sacrificial animal.» So I preserved it, and he kept eating from it until he reached Madinah.

    أَنَّ امْرَأَتَهُ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ سَأَلَتْ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ لُحُومِ الْأَضَاحِيِّ فَقَالَتْ قَدِمَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مِنْ غَزْوَةٍ فَدَخَلَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ فَقَرَّبْتُ لَهُ لَحْمًا مِنْ لُحُومِ الْأَضَاحِيِّ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَهُ حَتَّى سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «كُلْهُ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ إِلَى ذِي الْحِجَّةِ»

    ✧ His wife Umm Sulaym asked ʿAʾishah about the meat of sacrificial animals. She said: ʿAli b. Abi Talib arrived from a military expedition and entered upon his family, and I offered him some meat from the sacrificial animals. He refused to eat it until he asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said: «Eat it from Dhu al-Hijjah to Dhu al-Hijjah.»
