They ended up at the Messenger of God ﷺ. When they saw the Prophet ﷺ, they jumped up from their mounts and came to the Prophet ﷺ and kissed his hand. Then al-Ashajj dismounted, hobbled his mount, took out his saddlebag, opened it, and took out two white garments from his clothes and put them on. Then he went to their mounts and hobbled them. Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'O Ashajj, you have two traits that God and His Messenger love: forbearance and deliberateness.' He said: 'O Messenger of God, have I acquired them myself, or has God created me with them?' He said: 'Rather, God created you with them.' He said: 'Praise be to God who created me with two traits that God and His Messenger love.' Then al-Wazza' said: 'O Messenger of God, I have a maternal uncle who is afflicted, so supplicate to God for him.' He said: 'Where is he? Bring him to me.' He said: 'I did the same as al-Ashajj did: I dressed him in his two garments and brought him. He took hold of his cloak and raised it until we saw the whiteness of his armpit. Then he struck his back and said: "Come out, enemy of God!" He turned his face away, and he was looking with the gaze of a healthy man.'

✧ Ka'b b. al-Ashraf used to satirize the Prophet ﷺ, so the Prophet ﷺ commanded Sa'd b. Mu'adh to send five men against him. They came to him while he was in a gathering of his people in al-'Awali. When he saw them, he was alarmed and said: What has brought you? They said: We have come to you for a need. He said: Let one of you come near and tell me his need. One of them came near and they said: We have come to sell you some coats of mail of ours. He said: By God, if you do that, you have been in hardship since this man settled among you—or he said: with you. So they made an appointment with him to come after a part of the night. He said: They came to him, and he rose to meet them. His wife said to him: These people have not come to you at this hour for anything you would like. He said: They have told me their need. When he came near them, Abu 'Abs embraced him, and Muhammad b. Maslamah struck him with the sword and stabbed him in his side, so they killed him. When morning came, the Jews went to the Prophet ﷺ and said: Our chief has been killed treacherously. The Prophet ﷺ reminded them of his satirizing him in his poetry and his harming him. Then the Prophet ﷺ invited them to write a document between him and them. He said: That document was with 'Ali.

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: A man freed his share of a slave, and the Prophet ﷺ did not make him liable for the rest. Thus said Ghundar: Ibn al-Thalib, but it is Ibn al-Talib. Shu'bah had something in his speech, meaning a lisp, and perhaps Ghundar did not understand him. The rest of the hadith of Ibn Wadi'ah al-Ansari.
✧ He brought a lizard to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: "A nation that was transformed, and God knows best."
✧ A man said, “O Messenger of God, what about lost property we find?” He said, “Make public announcement of it, and do not conceal it or hide it. If you find its owner, return it to him; otherwise, it is the wealth of God, which He gives to whomever He wills.”
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said, “The stray animal of a Muslim is the burning of the Fire.”

✧ I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “Before the Hour there will be trials like patches of dark night and trials like patches of smoke, in which a man’s heart dies just as his body dies. A man will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, and a believer in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning. In them some people will sell their share of the Hereafter and their religion for a paltry portion of this world. Yazīd b. Muʿāwiyah has died, and you are our brothers and our full brothers. Do not precede us in anything until we choose for ourselves.”

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ to Bahrain. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ went out on a military expedition, and we went out with him. The Messenger of God ﷺ dozed off and said, “May God have mercy on ʿAmr.” We discussed everyone whose name was ʿAmr. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ dozed off again and said, “May God have mercy on ʿAmr.” Then he dozed off a third time and woke up and said, “May God have mercy on ʿAmr.” We said, “O Messenger of God, who is this ʿAmr?” He said, “ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ.” We said, “What is his matter?” He said, “Whenever I called people to give charity, he came and gave generously from it, and I would say, ‘ʿAmr, where did you get this?’ He would say, ‘From God.’ ʿAmr spoke the truth. He has abundant good with God.” Zuhayr b. Qays said: “When the Messenger of God ﷺ died, I said, ‘I will surely keep close to this one about whom the Messenger of God ﷺ said he has abundant good with God, until I die.’”
✧ He heard the Prophet ﷺ say, “God does not look at the prayer of a servant who does not keep his back straight between his bowing and his prostration.”
✧ He said: “I prayed behind the Messenger of God ﷺ. When he finished, he saw a man praying alone behind the row. The Prophet of God ﷺ stood still until the man finished his prayer, then said to him, ‘Repeat your prayer, for there is no prayer for one who prays alone behind the row.’”

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ gave to some people and withheld from others. It reached him that they were resentful, so he addressed the people, praised and extolled God, and said: “I gave to some people and left others, and they resented me. I give a gift to a man while someone other than him is dearer to me than him. I give to them only because of the anxiety and impatience in their hearts, and I withhold from a people because of the self-sufficiency and good that God has placed in their hearts. Among them is ʿAmr b. Taghlib.” ʿAmr said: “The word of the Messenger of God ﷺ is dearer to me than red camels.”

✧ That he divorced his wife irrevocably. He mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, who said: 'What did you intend by that?' He said: 'One (divorce).' He said: 'By Allah?' He said: 'By Allah.' He said: 'It is as you intended.'
