حَدَّثَنا عَبْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشامٍ، حَدَّثَنا أبُو أُسامَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي الحَسَنُ بْنُ الحَكَمِ النَّخَعِيُّ، قالَ: أخْبَرَنا أبُو سَبْرَةَ النَّخَعِيُّ، عَنْ فَرْوَةَ بْنِ مُسَيْكٍ الغُطَيْفِيِّ، قالَ
أتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقُلْتُ، يا رَسُولَ اللهِ، ألا أُقاتِلُ مَن أدْبَرَ مِن قَوْمِي بِمَن أقْبَلَ مِنهُمْ؟ قالَ:»بَلى «ثُمَّ بَدا لِي، فَقُلْتُ: يا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لا بَلْ أهْلَ سَبَأٍ، فَهُمْ أعَزُّ وأشَدُّ قُوَّةً. قالَ: فَأمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وأذِنَ لِي
Translation

✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight those of my people who have turned back with those who have come forward?' He said: 'Yes.' Then it occurred to me, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, no, rather the people of Sabaʾ, for they are mightier and stronger.' He said: So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me and gave me permission.

فِي قِتالِهِمْ، فَلَمّا خَرَجْتُ مِن عِنْدِهِ أنْزَلَ اللهُ فِي سَبَأٍ ما أنْزَلَ، فَقالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «ما فَعَل الغُطَيْفِيُّ؟» فَأرْسَلَ إلى مَنزِلِي، فَوَجَدَنِي قَدْ سِرْتُ فَرَدَدْتُ، فَلَمّا أتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وجَدْتُهُ قاعِدًا ومَعَهُ أصْحابُهُ، قالَ: فَقالَ: «بَلْ ادْعُ القَوْمَ، فَمَن أجابَ فاقْبَلْ مِنهُ، ومَن لَمْ يَجِبْ، فَلا تَعْجَلْ عَلَيْهِ، حَتّى تُحْدِثَ إلَيَّ» قالَ: فَقالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ القَوْمِ: يا رَسُولَ اللهِ أخْبِرْنا عَنْ سَبَأٍ أرْضٌ هِيَ أوْ امْرَأةٌ؟ قالَ: «لَيْسَتْ بِأرْضٍ ولا امْرَأةٍ، ولَكِنَّهُ رَجُلٌ ولَدَ عَشْرَةً مِنَ العَرَبِ، فَتَيامَنَ مِنهُمْ سِتَّةٌ، وتَشاءَمَ مِنهُمْ أرْبَعَةٌ، فَأمّا الَّذِينَ تَشاءَمُوا: فَلَخْمٌ، وجُذامُ، وغَسّانُ، وعامِلَةُ، وأمّا الَّذِينَ تَيامَنُوا: فالأُزْدُ، وكِنْدَةُ، وحِمْيَرُ، والأشْعَرِيُّونَ، وأنْمارٌ، ومَذْحِجٌ» فَقالَ رَجُلٌ: يا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وما أنْمارٌ؟ قالَ: «الَّذِينَ مِنهُمْ خَثْعَمٌ وبَجِيلَةُ»
machine translationconcerning fighting them. When I left him, God revealed concerning Saba what He revealed, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "What has the Ghuṭayfī done?" So he sent to my house and found that I had already set out, so he had me brought back. When I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, I found him sitting with his Companions. He said: "Rather, call the people; whoever responds, accept it from him, and whoever does not respond, do not hasten against him until you bring the matter to me." He said: A man from among the people said: O Messenger of God, tell us about Saba: is it a land or a woman? He said: "It is neither a land nor a woman, but he is a man who fathered ten among the Arabs. Six of them settled toward the south (Yemen), and four of them settled toward the north (Syria). As for those who went north: Lakhm, Judhām, Ghassān, and ʿĀmilah. As for those who went south: al-Azd, Kindah, Ḥimyar, the Ashʿarīs, Anmār, and Madhḥij." A man said: O Messenger of God, and what is Anmār? He said: "Those from whom come Khathʿam and Bajīlah."
