    عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ رَأَى هِلَالَ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ فَلَا يَأْخُذُ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ وَلَا مِنْ أَظْفَارِهِ حَتَّى يُضَحِّيَ»

    "Whoever sees the new crescent of Dhul-Hijjah and wants to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove any of his hair or nails until he has offered the sacrifice." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4361)

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ فَلَا يَقْلِمْ مِنْ أَظْفَارِهِ وَلَا يَحْلِقْ شَيْئًا مِنْ شَعْرِهِ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَّلِ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَمْرُو بْنُ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أُكَيْمَةَ وَقَدِ اخْتُلِفَ فِي اسْمِهِ فَقِيلَ عُمَرُ وَقِيلَ عَمْرٌو وَهُوَ مَدَنِيٌّ

    ✧ Um Salama, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever intends to offer a sacrifice (on the day of Eid), let him not remove anything from his nails or hair in the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah." Abu Abdur Rahman Amr ibn Muslim ibn Ammar ibn Ukaimeh, who was also known as Umar or Amr, narrated this Hadith. He was a resident of Medina.

    «مَنْ أَرَادَ الْثَّجَّ فَدَخَلَتْ أَيَّامُ الْعَشْرِ فَلَا يَأْخُذُ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ وَلَا أَظْفَارِهِ» فَذَكَرْتُهُ لِعِكْرِمَةَ فَقَالَ أَلَا يَعْتَزِلُ النِّسَاءَ وَالطِّيبَ

    "Whoever wants to offer a sacrifice when dhul-Hijjah begins, let him not remove anything from his hair or nails." I (the narrator) mentioned that to 'Ikrimah, and he said: "Should he not also keep away from women and perfume?" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4363)

    أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا دَخَلَتِ الْعَشْرُ فَأَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ فَلَا يَمَسَّ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ وَلَا مِنْ بَشَرِهِ شَيْئًا»

    ✧ That the Prophet ﷺ said: "When the first ten days (of Dhu al-Hijjah) enter and one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him not touch anything of his hair or skin."

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ «أُمِرْتُ بِيَوْمِ الْأَضْحَى عِيدًا جَعَلَهُ اللهُ لِهَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ» فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ أَجِدْ إِلَّا مَنِيحَةً أُنْثَى أَفَأُضَحِّي بِهَا؟ قَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنْ تَأْخُذُ مِنْ شَعْرِكَ وَتُقَلِّمُ أَظْفَارَكَ وَتَقُصُّ شَارِبَكَ وَتَحْلِقُ عَانَتَكَ فَذَلِكَ تَمَامُ ضَحِيَّتِكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ»

    ✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man: "I was commanded with the Day of Sacrifice as a festival which Allah made for this nation." The man said: What do you think if I find only a borrowed female (milch animal)? Should I sacrifice it? He said: "No, but you take from your hair, trim your nails, clip your mustache, and shave your pubic hair; that is the completion of your sacrifice with Allah."

    أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ «يَذْبَحُ أَوْ يَنْحَرُ بِالْمُصَلَّى»

    ✧ He informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to "slaughter or sacrifice at the prayer place."

    ✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed on the Day of Sacrifice in Madinah. He said: "When he did not sacrifice, he slaughtered at the prayer place."

    شَهِدْتُ أَضْحَى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ رَأَى غَنَمًا قَدْ ذُبِحَتْ فَقَالَ «مَنْ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ فَلْيَذْبَحْ شَاةً مَكَانَهَا وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ ذَبَحَ فَلْيَذْبَحْ عَلَى اسْمِ اللهِ»

    ✧ I attended the sacrifice with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He prayed with the people, and when he finished the prayer, he saw sheep that had already been slaughtered. He said: "Whoever slaughtered before the prayer, let him slaughter a sheep in place of it; and whoever has not slaughtered, let him slaughter in the name of Allah."

    حَدَّثَنِي عَمَّا نَهَى عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْأَضَاحِيِّ قَالَ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَيَدِي أَقْصَرُ مِنْ يَدِهِ قَالَ «أَرْبَعٌ لَا يَجُزْنَ الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ ظَلْعُهَا وَالْكَسِيرَةُ الَّتِي لَا تُنْقِي» قُلْتُ إِنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي الْقَرْنِ نَقْصٌ وَأَنْ يَكُونَ فِي السِّنِّ نَقْصٌ قَالَ «مَا كَرِهْتَهُ فَدَعْهُ وَلَا تُحَرِّمْهُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ»

    ✧ He told me about what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited among the sacrificial animals. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood while my hand was shorter than his hand and said: "Four (types) are not acceptable: the one-eyed whose blindness is evident, the sick whose sickness is evident, the lame whose lameness is evident, and the broken one that has no marrow." I said: I dislike that there be any defect in the horn or any defect in the teeth. He said: "Whatever you dislike, leave it, but do not forbid it to anyone."

    حَدِّثْنِي مَا كَرِهَ أَوْ نَهَى عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْأَضَاحِيِّ قَالَ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ هَكَذَا بِيَدِهِ وَيَدُهُ أَقْصَرُ مِنْ يَدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَرْبَعَةٌ لَا يُجْزِئُ فِي الْأَضَاحِيِّ الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ ظَلْعُهَا وَالْكَسِيرَةُ الَّتِي لَا تُنْقِي قَالَ فَإِنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ نَقْصٌ فِي الْقَرْنِ وَالْأُذُنِ قَالَ «فَمَا كَرِهْتَ مِنْهُ فَدَعْهُ وَلَا تُحَرِّمْهُ علَى أَحَدٍ»

    ✧ Tell me what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked or prohibited among the sacrificial animals. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said thus with his hand, and his hand was shorter than the hand of the Prophet ﷺ: "Four are not sufficient in sacrificial animals: the one-eyed whose blindness is evident, the sick whose sickness is evident, the lame whose lameness is evident, and the broken one that has no marrow." He said: I dislike that there be a defect in the horn or the ear. He said: "Whatever you dislike of it, leave it, but do not forbid it to anyone."

    سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَشَارَ بِأَصَابِعِهِ وَأَصَابِعِي أَقْصَرُ مِنْ أَصَابِعِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُشِيرُ بِإِصْبُعِهِ وَيَقُولُ لَا يَجُوزُ مِنَ الضَّحَايَا الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَرَجُهَا وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا وَالْعَجْفَاءُ الَّتِي لَا تُنْقِي

    ✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gestured with his fingers, and my fingers are shorter than the fingers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while he pointed with his finger and said: “It is not permissible among sacrificial animals: the one-eyed whose defect is evident, the lame whose lameness is evident, the sick whose sickness is evident, and the emaciated that has no marrow.”

    «أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَسْتَشْرِفَ الْعَيْنَ وَالْأُذُنَ وَأَنْ لَا نُضَحِّيَ بِمُقَابَلَةٍ وَلَا مُدَابَرَةٍ وَلَا بَتْرَاءَ وَلَا خَرْقَاءَ»

    ✧ “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to examine the eyes and ears, and not to sacrifice an animal with its ear cut off in front (muqabalah), nor one with its ear cut off from the back (mudabarah), nor one with its ear cut off completely (batra’), nor one with a pierced ear (kharqa’).”

    ✧ “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to examine the eyes and ears, and not to sacrifice a one-eyed animal, nor a muqabalah (one with the front of its ear cut), nor a mudabarah (one with the back of its ear cut), nor a sharqa’ (one with its ear split), nor a kharqa’ (one with its ear pierced).”

    ✧ “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade sacrificing a mudabarah (one with the back of its ear cut), or a muqabalah (one with the front of its ear cut), or a sharqa’ (one with its ear split), or a kharqa’ (one with its ear pierced), or a jad’a’ (one with its ear or nose cut off).”

    سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ «نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُضَحَّى بِأَعْضَبِ الْقَرْنِ» فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ الْأَعْضَبُ النِّصْفُ فَأَكْثَرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ

    ✧ I heard ‘Ali say: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade sacrificing an animal with a broken horn.” I mentioned that to Sa‘id b. al-Musayyab, and he said: “Yes, a broken horn is when half or more of it is broken.”

    قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَذْبَحُوا إِلَّا مُسِنَّةً إِلَّا أَنْ يَعْسُرَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَذْبَحُوا جَذَعَةً مِنَ الضَّأْنِ»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not slaughter except a musinnah (an animal that has reached the age of two years or older), unless it is difficult for you, in which case you may slaughter a jadha‘ah (a young sheep that has reached one year) from the sheep.”

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَعْطَاهُ غَنَمًا يَقْسِمُهَا عَلَى أَصْحَابِهِ فَبَقِيَ عَتُودٌ فَذَكَرَهُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «ضَحِّ بِهِ أَنْتَ»

    ✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him some sheep to distribute among his companions, and a young goat (‘atud) remained. He mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: “Sacrifice it yourself.”

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَسَمَ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ ضَحَايَا فَصَارَتْ لِي جَذَعَةٌ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَارَتْ لِي جَذَعَةٌ فَقَالَ «ضَحِّ بِهَا»

    ✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ divided sacrificial animals among his companions, and a jadha‘ah (a sheep that has reached one year) fell to my share. I said: O Messenger of Allah, a jadha‘ah has fallen to my share. He said: “Sacrifice it.”

    قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ أَضَاحِيَّ فَأَصَابَتْنِي جَذَعَةٌ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَصَابَتْنِي جَذَعَةٌ فَقَالَ «ضَحِّ بِهَا»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ divided sacrificial animals among his companions, and a jadha‘ah fell to my share. I said: O Messenger of Allah, a jadha‘ah has fallen to my share. He said: “Sacrifice it.”

    ✧ “We sacrificed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ jadha‘ahs (sheep that have reached one year) from the sheep.”

    كُنَّا فِي سَفَرٍ فَحَضَرَ الْأَضْحَى فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَشْتَرِي مِنَّا الْمُسِنَّةَ بِالْجَذَعَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةِ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَحَضَرَ هَذَا الْيَوْمُ فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَطْلُبُ الْمُسِنَّةَ بِالْجَذَعَتَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الْجَذَعَ يُوفِي مِمَّا يُوفِي مِنْهُ الثَّنِيُّ»

    ✧ We were on a journey when the sacrifice (Eid al-Adha) arrived. A man would buy from us a full-grown sheep for two or three young sheep. A man from Muzaynah said to us: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey when this day arrived. A man would seek a full-grown sheep for two or three young sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed the jadha‘ fulfills what the thanī fulfills.”

    كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَبْلَ الْأَضْحَى بِيَوْمَيْنِ نُعْطِي الْجَذَعَيْنِ بِالثَّنِيَّةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الْجَذَعَةَ تُجْزِئُ مِمَّا تُجْزِئُ مِنْهُ الثَّنِيَّةُ»

    ✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ two days before the sacrifice, giving two young sheep for one full-grown sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The jadha‘ah suffices for what the thaniyyah suffices.”

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ «يُضَحِّي بِكَبْشَيْنِ» قَالَ أَنَسٌ وَأَنَا أُضَحِّي بِكَبْشَيْنِ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sacrifice two rams. Anas said: And I sacrifice two rams.

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed two black and white rams.

    «ضَحَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِكَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ ذَبَحَهُمَا بِيَدِهِ وَسَمَّى وَكَبَّرَ وَوَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ عَلَى صِفَاحِهِمَا»

    ✧ The Prophet ﷺ sacrificed two black and white horned rams. He slaughtered them with his own hand, said the name of Allah, and said Allahu Akbar, and placed his foot on their sides.

    «خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أَضْحَى وَانْكَفَأَ إِلَى كَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ فَذَبَحَهُمَا» مُخْتَصَرٌ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave us a sermon on the day of sacrifice, then he turned to two black and white rams and slaughtered them. Abridged.

    كَأَنَّهُ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ إِلَى كَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ فَذَبَحَهُمَا يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ وَإِلَى جُزَيْعَةٍ مِنَ الْغَنَمِ فَقَسَمَهَا بَيْنَنَا مُخْتَصَرٌ

    ✧ It is as if he meant the Prophet ﷺ went to two black and white rams and slaughtered them on the day of sacrifice, and to a small flock of sheep and divided it among us. Abridged.

    «ضَحَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِكَبْشٍ أَقْرَنَ فَحِيلٍ يَمْشِي فِي سَوَادٍ وَيَأْكُلُ فِي سَوَادٍ وَيَنْظُرُ فِي سَوَادٍ»

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed a horned, vigorous ram that walked in blackness, ate in blackness, and looked in blackness.

    كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَجْعَلُ فِي قَسْمِ الْغَنَائِمِ عَشْرًا مِنَ الشَّاءِ بِبَعِيرٍ» قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَأَكْبَرُ عِلْمِي أَنِّي قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ وَحَدَّثَنِي بِهِ سُفْيَانُ عَنْهُ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to make in the division of spoils ten sheep equal to one camel. Shu‘bah said: The greater part of my knowledge is that I heard it from Sa‘īd b. Masrūq, and Sufyān narrated it to me from him.

    كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ «فَحَضَرَ النَّحْرُ فَاشْتَرَكْنَا فِي الْبَعِيرِعَنْ عَشَرَةٍ وَالْبَقَرَةِ عَنْ سَبْعَةٍ»

    ✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey when the sacrifice day arrived. We shared a camel among ten people and a cow among seven.

    كُنَّا نَتَمَتَّعُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ «فَنَذْبَحُ الْبَقَرَةَ عَنْ سَبْعَةٍ نَشْتَرِكُ فِيهَا»

    ✧ We were performing tamattu‘ with the Prophet ﷺ, so we would slaughter a cow on behalf of seven people, sharing in it.

    أَنَّهُ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يُعِيدَ قَالَ عِنْدِي عَنَاقُ جَذَعَةٍ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ مُسِنَّتَيْنِ قَالَ «اذْبَحْهَا» فِي حَدِيثِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَا أَجِدُ إِلَّا جَذَعَةً فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَذْبَحَ

    ✧ He slaughtered before the Prophet ﷺ, so the Prophet ﷺ commanded him to repeat it. He said: I have a jadha‘ah female kid, which is dearer to me than two full-grown sheep. He said: “Slaughter it.” In the hadith of ‘Ubayd Allāh: He said: I do not find anything but a jadha‘ah, so he commanded him to slaughter it.

    ✧ We offered sacrifices with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Adha. The people had slaughtered their sacrificial animals before the prayer. When the Prophet ﷺ finished, he saw that they had slaughtered before the prayer and said: “Whoever slaughtered before the prayer, let him slaughter another in its place. And whoever has not slaughtered until we prayed, let him slaughter in the name of Allah.”

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood on the day of Adha and said: “Whoever faces our Qiblah, prays our prayer, and performs our sacrifice, let him not slaughter until he prays.” My maternal uncle stood and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I hastened my sacrifice to feed my family and the people of my house—or my family and my neighbors.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Repeat another slaughter.” He said: “I have a young she-goat that is dearer to me than two meat sheep.” He said: “Slaughter it, for it is the better of your two sacrifices, and it will not suffice as a jadha'ah for anyone after you.”

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us on the day of sacrifice after the prayer, then said: “Whoever prays our prayer and performs our sacrifice has attained the sacrifice. And whoever sacrifices before the prayer, that is only a sheep of meat.” Abu Burdah said: “O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I sacrificed before going out to the prayer, and I knew that today is a day of eating and drinking, so I hastened and ate and fed my family and neighbors.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “That is only a sheep of meat.” He said: “I have a jadha'ah she-goat that is better than two meat sheep; will it suffice me?” He said: “Yes, and it will not suffice for anyone after you.”

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of sacrifice: “Whoever slaughtered before the prayer, let him repeat.” A man stood and said: “O Messenger of Allah, this is a day on which meat is desired,” and he mentioned something about his neighbors, as if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ believed him. He said: “I have a jadha'ah that is dearer to me than two meat sheep,” so he granted him a concession. I do not know whether his concession extended to others or not. Then he turned to two rams and slaughtered them.

He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I hunted two rabbits and could not find a blade to slaughter them with, so I slaughtered them with a white flint. May I eat?” He said: “Eat.”

    ✧ A man of the Ansar had a she-camel grazing toward Uhud, and it was exposed to danger, so he slaughtered it with a wooden peg. I said to Zayd: “A peg of wood or iron?” He said: “No, of wood.” Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him, and he ordered him to eat it.

I will tell you about that: the tooth is bone, and the claw is the knife of the Abyssinians.”

He said: 'If the blood is shed and the name of Allah is mentioned, then eat, unlike (it is slaughtered) with teeth or nails." Then the Messenger of Allah got some spoils of war and a camel ran away. A man shot and arrow at it and stopped it. He (the Prophet) said; 'Some of these animals - or 'these camels'- 'are untamed like wild animals, so if one of them goes out of your control, do the same."' I will tell you: as for the tooth, it is bone, and as for the claw, it is the knife of the Abyssinians. And we captured some camels or sheep as booty, and one of the camels bolted. A man shot it with an arrow and stopped it.” Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said, “These camels have wild tendencies like wild animals, so if one of them overcomes you, do to it like this.”

    ✧ A man asked Ali, “Did the Messenger of God ﷺ tell you anything secretly that he did not tell other people?” Ali became angry until his face turned red, and he said, “He did not tell me anything secretly that he did not tell other people, except that he told me four words while he and I were in the house. He said: ‘God curses the one who curses his parents. God curses the one who slaughters for other than God. God curses the one who shelters an innovator. God curses the one who changes the landmarks of the land.’”

    ✧ Abu Sa'id al-Khudri returned from a journey, and his family presented to him some meat from the sacrificial animals. He said: I will not eat it until I ask. He went to his maternal brother Qatadah b. al-Nu'man, who was a veteran of Badr, and asked him about that. He said: A matter occurred after you, abrogating what they had been forbidden from eating of the meat of sacrificial animals after three days.

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the meat of sacrificial animals beyond three days. Qatadah b. al-Nu'man, the maternal brother of Abu Sa'id and a veteran of Badr, arrived, and they came to him. He said: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not forbid it? Abu Sa'id said: A matter occurred regarding it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to eat it beyond three days, then he permitted us to eat it and store it.

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I had forbidden you three things: visiting graves, so visit them, and may your visiting them increase you in good; eating the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, so eat from them and keep whatever you wish; and drinking from certain vessels, so drink from whatever vessel you wish, but do not drink any intoxicant, and keep." Muhammad did not mention "and keep."

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I had forbidden you the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, nabidh except in water-skins, and visiting graves. So eat of the meat of sacrificial animals as much as you like, provision yourselves, and store. Whoever wishes to visit graves, they remind of the Hereafter. And drink, but avoid every intoxicant."

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Eat and store for three days." Later they said: O Messenger of Allah, people used to benefit from their sacrificial animals, rendering their fat and making water-skins from them. He said: "And what is that?" He said: That which you forbade of keeping the meat of sacrificial animals. He said: "I only forbade it because of the needy people who came, so eat, store, and give charity."

    ✧ I entered upon 'A'ishah and said: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid the meat of sacrificial animals after three days? She said: Yes. The people were afflicted with hardship, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted the rich to feed the poor. Then she said: I saw the family of Muhammad ﷺ eating a trotter after fifteen days. I said: Why was that? She laughed and said: The family of Muhammad ﷺ never ate their fill of bread with condiment for three consecutive days until he met Allah.

    ✧ Some Bedouins used to bring meat to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "Some Bedouins bring meat, and we do not know whether they mentioned the name of Allah over it or not." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Mention the name of Allah and eat."
