Sunan ad-Darimi 1655Sahih
✧ When the Prophet ﷺ sent Mu'adh to Yemen, he said, 'You will come to a people of the Book, so call them to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. If they obey you in that, then inform them that Allah has obligated upon them five prayers in every day and night. If they obey you in that, then inform them that Allah has obligated upon them charity in their wealth, taken from their rich and returned to their poor. If they obey you in that, then beware of the best of their wealth, and beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah.'
Sunan ad-Darimi 1656Sahih
✧ The needy person is not the one who is turned away by a morsel or two, a piece or two, a date or two. Rather, the needy person is the one who has no wealth to suffice him, but he is too shy to ask people persistently, or he does not ask people persistently.
Sunan ad-Darimi 1657Sahih
✧ There is no owner of camels, cows, or sheep who does not pay what is due on them except that on the Day of Resurrection he will be made to sit on a vast flat plain. Those with cloven hooves will trample him with their hooves, and those with horns will gore him with their horns. On that day, none among them will be hornless or have a broken horn. They said: O Messenger of Allah, what is due on them? He said: Lending the stud, lending the bucket, giving its milk, milking it at the watering place, and carrying loads on it in the way of Allah.
Sunan ad-Darimi 1658Sahih

If they exceed that, then three sheep up to three hundred. If they exceed that by one sheep, only three sheep are due until they reach four hundred. When they reach four hundred sheep, then in every hundred there is one sheep. Neither an old decrepit animal, nor one with a defect, nor one with a blemish may be taken as sadaqah.

✧ Some people of the Ansar asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave them. Then they asked again, and he gave them until what he had was exhausted. Then he said, "Whatever good I have, I will never withhold it from you. Whoever seeks chastity, Allah will make him chaste. Whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient. Whoever seeks patience, Allah will make him patient. No one is given a gift that is better and more ample than patience."

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to give me a gift, and I would say, "Give it to someone who is more in need of it than me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Take it. ✧ Abu Talha was the wealthiest of the Ansar in Madinah in terms of palm trees. The most beloved of his properties to him was Bayruha', which faced the mosque. He used to enter it and drink from its pleasant water. Anas said: When this verse was revealed: {You will not attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love} [Al-Imran 92], he said: 'The most beloved of my properties to me is Bayruha', and it is a charity for Allah, hoping for its righteousness and its treasure with Allah. Place it, O Messenger of Allah, wherever you wish.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Excellent! That is a profitable property - or a returning one. I have heard what you said about it, and I think you should make it for your relatives.' Abu Talha said: 'I will do so, O Messenger of Allah.' So Abu Talha divided it among his relatives and the sons of his paternal uncle.

✧ While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man came to him with an egg-sized piece of gold, some of which he acquired from battles. Ahmad Ibn Hanbal stated that it is from minerals, and this is correct. The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, take this as charity from me. By Allah, I have no wealth other than this." The Prophet turned away from him. Then he came to him from his left side and said the same. He came to him from in front of him and said the same. Then he said, "Give it to me," angrily. The Prophet threw it at him, striking him with it. If it had hit him, it would have hurt or even injured him. Then he said, "One of you may intentionally give away his wealth when he does not own anything else, then sit amongst the people as if he is poor. Charity is only appropriate for those who possess excess wealth. Take what is rightfully yours, as we have no need for it." So the man took his wealth and left. Abu Muhammad stated that Malik used to say, "When a person gives away a third of his wealth to the poor, it is considered charity."

It remained like that until Mu'awiya came to us in Madinah as a pilgrim or for Umrah and said: 'I think that two mudds of Syrian wheat equals a sa' of dates.' So the people adopted that. ✧ Muhammad b. Yusuf informed us: Aban b. 'Abdullah narrated to us: 'Uthman b. Abi Hazim narrated to me from his father from his grandfather Sakhr, a longer version than the hadith of Abu Nu'aym.
Sunan ad-Darimi 1717Sahih
✧ "No one gives charity from good earnings—and Allah accepts only what is good—but the Most Merciful takes it in His right hand, and Allah causes the date to grow for one of you just as one of you raises his foal or young camel until it becomes like Mount Uhud."
Sunan ad-Darimi 1718Sahih
✧ "Charity does not decrease wealth; Allah does not increase a servant who pardons except in honor; and no one humbles himself for Allah but Allah raises him."

✧ "For every grazing camels, for every forty, a two-year-old she-camel is due. Camels are not to be separated for the sake of accounting. Whoever gives it seeking reward, he will have its reward, and whoever withholds it, we will take it and half of his wealth as a firm obligation from the obligations of Allah. None of it is lawful for the family of Muhammad."
Sunan ad-Darimi 1720Sahih
✧ I undertook a guarantee and came to the Prophet ﷺ to ask him regarding it. He said: “Stay, O Qabisah, until the zakāh comes to us and we will order it for you.” Then he said: “O Qabisah, begging is not lawful except for one of three: a man who has undertaken a guarantee, so begging is lawful for him, and he may ask until he obtains it, then he refrains; a man who has been struck by a calamity that destroyed his wealth, so begging is lawful for him, and he may ask until he obtains a means of livelihood — or he said: a sufficiency of livelihood; and a man stricken by poverty until three people of sound judgment among his people say, ‘So-and-so has been stricken by poverty,’ so begging is lawful for him, and he may ask until he obtains a means of livelihood or a sufficiency of livelihood, then he refrains. Whatever else of begging, O Qabisah, is unlawful earnings, which its owner consumes as unlawful earnings.”
