✧ "The Prophet ﷺ appointed an agent over the zakah. When the agent had finished his task, he came to him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, this is yours, and this was given to me as a gift.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Why did you not stay in the house of your father and mother and see whether you would be given a gift or not?' Then the Prophet ﷺ stood in the evening after the prayer on the pulpit, declared the shahadah, praised Allah as He deserves, and then said, 'To proceed: what is the matter with an agent whom we employ and he comes to us and says, "This is from your work, and this was given to me as a gift"? Why did he not stay in the house of his father and mother and see whether he would be given a gift or not? By the One in whose hand is my soul, none of you takes anything from it but he will come on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck. If it is a camel, he will come with it grumbling; if it is a cow, he will come with it lowing; if it is a sheep, he will come with it bleating. I have conveyed the message.'" Abu Humayd said, "Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands until we could see the whiteness of his armpits." Abu Humayd said, "Zayd b. Thabit heard that with me from the Prophet ﷺ, so ask him."
