✧ Visit the sick, and follow funerals. It is no harm if you do not attend the wedding feast, and it is no harm if you marry a woman for her beauty, though perhaps she will not bring good. It is no harm if you marry a woman for her wealth, though perhaps her wealth will not bring good. But marry those of religion and trustworthiness, and seek them out.

The second is the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis. Two. The third is a plague that will be among my Ummah, taking them like the qa'as of sheep. Three. The fourth is a tribulation that will occur among my Ummah. Four." I said: "Four." "The fifth is that wealth will overflow and become abundant, until a man is given a hundred and he is displeased with it. Five. The sixth is a truce between you and the Banu al-Asfar. ✧ We went on an expedition toward Syria, and over us was Khalid b. al-Walid. A man from the reinforcements of Himyar joined us and remained with us until we entered. As soon as we met our enemy, among whom were groups of Romans and Arabs from Quda'a, they fought fiercely. Among the enemy was a Roman man on a chestnut horse with a gilded saddle, a gold belt, and a sword like that. He began attacking the people and cutting through them. A man came and kept maneuvering around the Roman until he struck him. He struck the horse's hamstring with his sword, and it fell. Then he followed up with blows of the sword until he killed him. When Allah granted victory, the young man came asking, and the people testified that he had killed him. Khalid gave him some of his spoils and kept the rest. When he returned to 'Awf, he mentioned to him what Khalid had done. So 'Awf went until he came to Khalid and said: "Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled that the spoils belong to the killer?" He said: "Yes." He said: "What prevented you from giving him the spoils of his victim?" Khalid said: "I considered it too much for him." 'Awf said: "If I see the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I will definitely mention that to him." When he arrived in Madinah, 'Awf followed him and complained to the Prophet ﷺ. He called Khalid while 'Awf was sitting. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What prevented you, O Khalid, from giving this man the spoils of his victim?" He said: "I considered it too much, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Give it to him." Then he said: "Arise, O 'Awf." So 'Awf pulled his cloak. Then 'Awf said: "I have fulfilled what I mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ." The Prophet ﷺ heard him, and Khalid became angry. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not give him. Will you leave my commanders to me? Indeed, my example and theirs is like a man who bought camels and sheep, tended them, then brought them to a watering trough. They entered it and drank the clear water, leaving its murky water. So the clarity of their affair is for you, and its murkiness is upon them."

✧ "I have learned the last of the people of Paradise to enter it: a man who used to say: 'O God, keep me away from the Fire,' and did not say: 'Admit me into Paradise.' So the people of Paradise entered Paradise and the people of the Fire entered the Fire, and that man remained. He said: 'O Lord, what is it for me here?' He said: 'That is what you used to ask for, O son of Adam.' He said: 'O Lord, bring me near Paradise.' He said: 'O son of Adam, you did not ask Me for that.' He said: 'Then God will create for him a tree at the gate of Paradise.' He will say: 'O Lord, bring me near this tree so I may eat from its fruit and shade myself with its shade.' He will say: 'O son of Adam, did you not ask Me to keep you away from the Fire?' He will not cease asking until it is said to him: 'Go, for you have what your feet reached and your eyes saw.'"

He said: 'That you worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, perform the five prayers, listen and obey,' and he whispered a hidden word, 'and that you do not ask people for anything.' He (the narrator) said: 'Indeed, if one of those men's whip fell, he would not ask anyone to hand it to him.'
