لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللهِ وَالْفَتْحُ قَرَأَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى خَتَمَهَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَنَا وَأَصْحَابِي حَيِّزٌ، وَالنَّاسُ حَيِّزٌ، لَا هِجْرَةَ بَعْدَ الْفَتْحِ. قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ: فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ - وَكَانَ أَمِيرًا عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ - فَقَالَ: كَذَبْتَ، وَعِنْدَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، وَزَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ، فَقُلْتُ: أَمَا إِنَّ هَذَيْنِ لَوْ شَاءَا لَحَدَّثَاكَ، وَلَكِنَّ هَذَا يَخْشَى أَنْ تَنْزِعَهُ عَنِ الصَّدَقَةِ، وَهَذَا يَخْشَى أَنْ تَنْزِعَهُ عَنْ عِرَافَةِ قَوْمِهِ، فَرَفَعَ عَلَيَّ الدِّرَّةَ، فَلَمَّا رَأَيَا ذَلِكَ قَالَا: صَدَقَ
✧ When this verse was revealed, "When the help of God comes, and the victory," the Messenger of God ﷺ recited it to its end, then said, "I and my companions are one side, and the people are another side. There is no emigration after the victory." Abu Said said: I narrated this hadith to Marwan b. al-Hakam—who was governor over Madinah—and he said, "You have lied," while Zayd b. Thabit and Zayd b. Arqam were with him. I said, "If these two wished, they would tell you, but this one fears that you would remove him from the charity, and this one fears that you would remove him from the leadership of his people." He raised the whip against me, and when they saw that, they said, "He has spoken the truth."

لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ خُطَبَاءُ الْأَنْصَارِ، فَجَعَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ يَقُولُ: يَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ " كَانَ إِذَا بَعَثَ رَجُلًا مِنْكُمْ قَرَنَهُ بِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا، فَنَحْنُ نَرَى أَنْ يَلِيَ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ رَجُلَانِ، رَجُلٌ مِنْكُمْ وَرَجُلٌ مِنَّا، فَقَامَ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، فَكُنَّا أَنْصَارَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَإِنَّمَا يَكُونُ الْإِمَامُ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، وَنَحْنُ أَنْصَارُهُ كَمَا كُنَّا أَنْصَارَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ "، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ: جَزَاكُمُ اللهُ مِنْ حَيٍّ خَيْرًا يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَثَبَّتَ قَائِلَكُمْ، وَاللهِ لَوْ قُلْتُمْ غَيْرَ هَذَا مَا صَالَحْنَاكُمْ
✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ died, the orators of the Ansar stood up. Some of them began to say, "O company of the Emigrants, when the Messenger of God ﷺ sent one of you, he paired him with one of us. We think that this matter should be undertaken by two men: a man from you and a man from us." Zayd b. Thabit stood up and said, "The Messenger of God ﷺ was from the Emigrants, and we were the supporters of the Messenger of God ﷺ. The imam will be from the Emigrants, and we will be his supporters, just as we were the supporters of the Messenger of God ﷺ." Abu Bakr, may God have mercy on him, said, "May God reward you, O company of the Ansar, with good, and make firm your speaker. By God, if you had said other than this, we would not have made peace with you."

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ looked toward Yemen and said, "O God, turn their hearts." Then he looked toward Syria and said, "O God, turn their hearts." Then he looked toward Iraq and said, "O God, turn their hearts, and bless us in our sa' and our mudd."

مَشَيْتُ مَعَ أَنَسٍ فَجَعَلَ يُقَارِبُ بَيْنَ الْخُطَى، فَقَالَ: يَا ثَابِتُ، لِمَ لَا تَسْأَلُنِي لِمَ أَفْعَلُ بِكَ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ: وَلِمَ تَفْعَلُهُ ؟ قَالَ: إِنِّي مَشَيْتُ مَعَ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، فَفَعَلَ بِي مِثْلَ هَذَا، وَقَالَ: لِمَ لَا تَسْأَلُنِي لِمَ أَفْعَلُ بِكَ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ: فَسَأَلْتُهُ، فَقَالَ زَيْدٌ: هَكَذَا فَعَلَ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَقَالَ لِي: يَا زَيْدُ، أَتَدْرِي لِمَ أَفْعَلُ بِكَ هَذَا ؟ " قُلْتُ: وَلِمَ فَعَلْتَهُ ؟ قَالَ: " أَرَدْتُ أَنْ تَكْثُرَ خُطَانَا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ
✧ I walked with Anas, and he began to shorten his steps. He said, "O Thabit, why don't you ask me why I am doing this to you?" He said, "Why are you doing it?" He said, "I walked with Zayd b. Thabit, and he did the same to me, and said, 'Why don't you ask me why I am doing this to you?'" He said, "So I asked him, and Zayd said, 'This is how the Messenger of God ﷺ did with me, and he said to me, "O Zayd, do you know why I am doing this to you?" I said, "Why did you do it?" He said, "I wanted our steps to the mosque to be many."'"

" لَمَّا خَرَجَ إِلَى أُحُدٍ رَجَعَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ، فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِيهِمْ فِرْقَتَيْنِ ; فِرْقَةً تَقُولُ: نَقْتُلُهُمْ، وَفِرْقَةً تَقُولُ: لَا، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللهُ أَرْكَسَهُمْ بِمَا كَسَبُوا الْآيَةَ كُلَّهَا
✧ When he went out to Uhud, a group of those who were with him turned back. The companions of the Prophet ﷺ became two factions concerning them: a faction saying, "We should kill them," and a faction saying, "No." Then this verse was revealed: "What is the matter with you, that you are two factions concerning the hypocrites, while God has cast them back for what they earned"—the whole verse.

" أَرْسَلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ مَقْتَلَ أَهْلِ الْيَمَامَةِ، وَإِذَا عِنْدَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، ؓ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ هَذَا أَتَانِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ الْقَتْلَ قَدِ اسْتَحَرَّ بِقُرَّاءِ الْقُرْآنِ - يَعْنِي يَوْمَ الْيَمَامَةِ - وَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَسْتَحِرَّ الْقَتْلُ بِقُرَّاءِ الْقُرْآنِ فِي سَائِرِ الْمَوَاطِنِ، فَيَذْهَبَ الْقُرْآنُ، وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ أَنْ تَجْمَعَهُ، فَقُلْتُ: كَيْفَ تَفْعَلُونَ أَمْرًا لَمْ يَفْعَلْهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ فَوَاللهِ لَوْ كَلَّفُونِي نَقْلَ جَبَلٍ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا كَلَّفُونِي
✧ Abu Bakr ؓ sent for me after the battle of the people of Yamama, and Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ was with him. He said, "This one came to me and informed me that the killing has intensified among the reciters of the Quran—meaning on the day of Yamama—and I fear that the killing will intensify among the reciters of the Quran in other places, and the Quran will be lost. I think you should collect it." I said, "How can you do something the Messenger of God ﷺ did not do?" By God, if they had tasked me with moving a mountain, it would have been dearer to me than what they tasked me with.

" افْتَقَدْتُ آيَةً كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقْرَؤُهَا، فَالْتَمَسْتُهَا، فَوَجَدْتُهَا عِنْدَ خُزَيْمَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ: مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللهَ عَلَيْهِ، فَأَلْحَقْتُهَا فِي سُورَتِهَا
✧ I missed a verse I used to hear the Messenger of God ﷺ recite. I searched for it and found it with Khuzayma b. Thabit: "Among the believers are men who have been true to what they pledged to God." I appended it to its surah.

أَرْسَلَنِي وَدِيعَةُ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْخَوْفِ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ، فَحَدَّثَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ، فَفَرَّقَهُمْ: فِرْقَةً تِلْقَاءَ وُجُوهِ عَدُوِّهِمْ، وَفِرْقَةً تِلْقَاءَهُ، فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينِ يَلُونَهُ رَكْعَةً، ثُمَّ انْطَلَقُوا إِلَى مَصَافِّ إِخْوَانِهِمْ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ الْآخَرُونَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً، فَكَانَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ رَكْعَتَانِ، وَلِلْقَوْمِ رَكْعَةٌ رَكْعَةٌ
✧ Wadi'a al-Ansari sent me to Zayd b. Thabit to ask him about the prayer of the Messenger of God ﷺ in times of fear. I went to him and asked him, and he related that the Messenger of God ﷺ prayed with his companions, dividing them into two groups: one group facing their enemy and one group facing him. He prayed one rak'a with those who were with him, then they went to the positions of their brothers, and then the others came and he prayed one rak'a with them. Thus the Messenger of God ﷺ had two rak'as, and the people had one rak'a each.

✧ They were writing the masahif in the presence of Zayd b. Thabit, and they came to this verse, so Zayd b. Thabit said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'As for the old man and the old woman, when they commit adultery, stone them absolutely as a punishment from God and His Messenger.'

✧ "Whoever's intention is this world, God, Mighty and Majestic, scatters his affairs, places poverty before his eyes, and nothing of this world comes to him except what has been decreed for him. Whoever's intention is the Hereafter, God, Mighty and Majestic, places richness in his heart, gathers his affairs for him, and this world comes to him submissively."

✧ "May God brighten a person who hears from us a hadith and memorizes it until he conveys it. For perhaps a bearer of understanding carries it to one who has more understanding than him, and perhaps a bearer of understanding is not himself a faqih."

" إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَوْ عَذَّبَ أَهْلَ سَمَاوَاتِهِ وَأَهْلَ أَرْضِهِ عَذَّبَهُمْ غَيْرَ ظَالِمٍ لَهُمْ، وَلَوْ رَحِمَهُمْ كَانَتْ رَحْمَتُهُ خَيْرًا لَهُمْ مِنْ أَعْمَالِهِمْ، وَلَوْ كَانَ لَكَ مِثْلُ أُحُدٍ ذَهَبًا، فَأَنْفَقْتَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ مَا تُقُبِّلَ مِنْكَ حَتَّى تُؤْمِنَ بِالْقَدَرِ كُلِّهِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ، وَإِنْ مُتَّ عَلَى غَيْرِ هَذَا دَخَلْتَ النَّارَ
✧ "Indeed, if God, Mighty and Majestic, were to punish the inhabitants of His heavens and the inhabitants of His earth, He would punish them without wronging them. If He were to have mercy on them, His mercy would be better for them than their deeds. If you had the like of Uhud in gold and spent it in the path of God, it would not be accepted from you until you believe in the divine decree, all of it, its good and its evil. If you die upon other than this, you will enter the Fire."
