✧ "The Prophet ﷺ used to recite in the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr and 'Asr, sometimes letting us hear a verse, and he would make the first rak'ah long and the second shorter, and he would recite in the two rak'ahs of Maghrib."

قَامَ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، أَيْنَ أَنَا ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنْ قُتِلْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا، مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ، فَأَنْتَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، ثُمَّ سَكَتَ وَرَأَيْنَا أَنَّهُ يُنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " أَيْنَ الرَّجُلُ ؟ "، فَقَالَ: هَاأَنَذَا، قَالَ: " إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ، فَإِنَّهُ مَأْخُوذٌ بِهِ، كَذَلِكَ زَعَمَ جِبْرِيلُ ﷺ
✧ A man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me, if I am killed in the path of Allah, where will I be?" He said: "If you are killed in the path of Allah, patient and seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, then you will be in Paradise." Then he fell silent, and we thought that revelation was coming down upon him. Then he said: "Where is the man?" He said: "Here I am." He said: "Unless he has a debt, for he will be held accountable for it. Thus Jibril ﷺ asserted."

كَانَ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةٍ سَأَلَ عَنْهَا، فَإِنْ أُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا، وَإِنْ أُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا قَالَ لِأَهْلِهَا: " شَأْنَكُمْ بِهَا "، وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهَا
✧ When a funeral was brought to him, he would ask about it. If it was praised well, he would pray over it; if it was spoken of badly, he would say to its family: "Take care of it yourselves," and would not pray over it.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَهُ طَلِيعَةً، وَأَصْحَابُهُ مُحْرِمُونَ، وَهُوَ غَيْرُ مُحْرِمٍ، قَالَ: فَرَأَيْنَا حِمَارًا، فَاسْتَعَرْتُ مِنْهُمْ سَوْطًا، فَأَبَوْا أَنْ يُعِيرُونِي، فَاخْتَلَسْتُهُ مِنْ بَعْضِهِمْ، فَأَصَبْتُهُ، فَنَحَرْتُهُ، فَأَبَوْا أَنْ يَأْكُلُوا مَعِي، فَأَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا صَنَعْنَا شَيْئًا لَا نَدْرِي مَا هُوَ، فَأَخْبَرُوهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " كُلُوا وَأَطْعِمُونَا
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him out as a scout while his companions were in ihram, and he was not in ihram. He said: We saw a wild donkey, and I asked them to lend me a whip, but they refused to lend me, so I snatched it from one of them. I caught it and slaughtered it. They refused to eat with me, so they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, we did something we do not know what it is. They told him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Eat, and feed us."

أَنَّهُ انْطَلَقَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ، فَأَحْرَمَ أَصْحَابِي وَلَمْ أُحْرِمْ، فَانْطَلَقَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ، وَكُنْتُ مَعَ أَصْحَابِي، فَجَعَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ يَضْحَكُ إِلَى بَعْضٍ، فَنَظَرْتُ، فَإِذَا حِمَارُ وَحْشٍ، فَحَمَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَطَعَنْتُهُ وَأَثْبَتُّهُ، فَاسْتَعَنْتُ بِهِمْ، فَأَبَوْا أَنْ يُعِينُونِي، فَأَكَلْنَا مِنْهُ، وَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يُقْتَطَعَ قَوْمِي، فَانْطَلَقْتُ أُرَفِّعُ فَرَسِي، أَطْلُبُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَلَقِيتُ رَجُلًا فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ مِنْ غِفَارٍ، فَقُلْتُ: أَيْنَ تَرَكْتَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: بِالسُّقْيَا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ أَصْحَابَكَ يَقْرَءُونَ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامَ وَرَحْمَةَ اللهِ، وَقَدْ خَشُوا أَنْ يُقْتَطَعُوا دُونَكَ، فَانْتَظِرْهُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ، وَمَعِي مِنْهُ فَاضِلَةٌ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِلْقَوْمِ: " كُلُوا " وَهُمْ مُحْرِمُونَ
✧ He went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of Hudaybiyyah. My companions entered ihram, but I did not. The Prophet ﷺ went on, and I was with my companions. Some of them began to laugh at each other, so I looked and saw a wild donkey. I charged at it, stabbed it, and brought it down. I sought their help, but they refused to help me. We ate from it, and I feared that my people would be cut off, so I went urging my horse, seeking the Prophet ﷺ. I met a man from Ghifar in the middle of the night and said: Where did you leave the Prophet ﷺ? He said: At al-Suqya. I said: O Messenger of Allah, your companions send you greetings and the mercy of Allah, and they feared that they would be cut off without you, so wait for them, O Messenger of Allah. Then I said: O Messenger of Allah, I caught a wild donkey and I have some of it left over. The Prophet ﷺ said to the people: "Eat," and they were in ihram.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr the Opening of the Book and two surahs, making us hear a verse, and he would prolong the first rak'ah more than the second. In the last two, he recited the Opening of the Book. He would recite with us in the Fajr prayer, prolonging the first rak'ah more than the second.

إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَرَى الرُّؤْيَا فَتُمْرِضُنِي، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِأَبِي قَتَادَةَ، فَقَالَ: وَأَنَا إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَرَى الرُّؤْيَا تُمْرِضُنِي، حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: الرُّؤْيَا الصَّالِحَةُ مِنَ اللهِ، فَإِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمْ مَا يُحِبُّ فَلَا يُحَدِّثْ بِهَا إِلَّا مَنْ يُحِبُّ، وَإِذَا رَأَى مَا يَكْرَهُ فَاسْتَيْقَظَ فَلْيَتْفُلْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثَلَاثًا، وَلْيَتَعَوَّذْ بِاللهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَمِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ، وَلَا يُخْبِرْ بِهَا أَحَدًا، فَإِنَّهَا لَنْ تَضُرَّهُ
✧ I used to see dreams that made me ill. I mentioned that to Abu Qatadah, and he said: I too used to see dreams that made me ill, until I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "A good dream is from Allah. If one of you sees what he likes, let him not tell it except to someone he loves. If he sees what he dislikes and wakes up, let him spit to his left three times and seek refuge in Allah from its evil and from the evil of Satan, and not tell anyone about it, for it will not harm him."

✧ "I hope to be rewarded by Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for expiating the year," and regarding fasting on the day of 'Arafah he said: "I hope to be rewarded by Allah for expiating the year before it and the year after it."

أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَوْمِهِ، فَغَضِبَ حَتَّى عُرِفَ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ، فَقَامَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ فَقَالَ: رَضِينَا بِاللهِ رَبًّا، وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا، وَبِكَ نَبِيًّا، أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ غَضَبِ اللهِ وَغَضَبِ رَسُولِهِ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ عُمَرُ يُرَدِّدُ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى سَكَنَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا تَقُولُ فِي رَجُلٍ يَصُومُ الدَّهْرَ كُلَّهُ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " لَا صَامَ وَلَا أَفْطَرَ "، أَوْ قَالَ: " مَا صَامَ وَمَا أَفْطَرَ " فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَيْفَ بِمَنْ يَصُومُ يَوْمَيْنِ وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا ؟ فَقَالَ: " وَمَنْ يُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ ؟ " فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ يُفْطِرُ يَوْمَيْنِ وَيَصُومُ يَوْمًا ؟ فَقَالَ: " لَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي طُوِّقْتُ ذَلِكَ "، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي صَوْمِ يَوْمِ الِاثْنَيْنِ ؟ قَالَ: " ذَاكَ يَوْمٌ وُلِدْتُ فِيهِ، وَأُنْزِلَ عَلَيَّ فِيهِ "، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي رَجُلٍ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا ؟ فَقَالَ: " ذَاكَ صَوْمُ أَخِي دَاوُدَ "، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي صَوْمِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ ؟ قَالَ: " إِنِّي لَأَحْتَسِبُ عَلَى اللهِ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ السَّنَةَ "، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي صَوْمِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ ؟ قَالَ: " إِنِّي لَأَحْتَسِبُ عَلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ السَّنَةَ الَّتِي قَبْلَهَا وَالسَّنَةَ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا
✧ A bedouin asked the Messenger of God ﷺ about his fasting, and he became angry until that was visible in his face. Then ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ stood up and said: “We are content with God as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with you as Prophet. I seek refuge in God from the anger of God and the anger of His Messenger.” ʿUmar kept repeating that until he calmed down. Then he said: “O Messenger of God, what do you say about a man who fasts the entire age?” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “He neither fasted nor broke his fast,” or he said: “He has not fasted and he has not broken his fast.” He said: “O Messenger of God, how about one who fasts two days and breaks his fast one day?” He said: “And who is able to do that?” He said: “O Messenger of God, how about one who breaks his fast two days and fasts one day?” He said: “I would love to be given the strength to do that.” He said: “O Messenger of God, what do you say about fasting on Monday?” He said: “That is the day on which I was born and on which it was sent down to me.” They said: “O Messenger of God, what do you say about a man who fasts one day and breaks his fast one day?” He said: “That is the fast of my brother Dāwūd.” They said: “O Messenger of God, what do you say about fasting on the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ?” He said: “I count on God that it will expiate the year.” He said: “O Messenger of God, what do you say about fasting on the day of ʿArafah?” He said: “I count on God, Mighty and Majestic, that it will expiate the year before it and the year after it.”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَمَّا حَفَرَ الْخَنْدَقَ، وَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَحْمِلُونَ لَبِنَةً لَبِنَةً، وَعَمَّارٌ نَاقِهٌ مِنْ وَجَعٍ كَانَ بِهِ، فَجَعَلَ يَحْمِلُ لَبِنَتَيْنِ لَبِنَتَيْنِ، قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ: فَحَدَّثَنِي أَصْحَابِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَنْفُضُ التُّرَابَ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ وَيَقُولُ: وَيْحَكَ يَا ابْنَ سُمَيَّةَ، تَقْتُلُكَ الْفِئَةُ الْبَاغِيَةُ
✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ dug the trench, the people were carrying one brick at a time, while ʿAmmār was recovering from an illness he had. He began carrying two bricks at a time. Abū Saʿīd said: My companions told me that the Messenger of God ﷺ was brushing the dust from his head and saying: “Woe to you, O son of Sumayyah! The transgressing party will kill you.”

" خَيْرُ الْخَيْلِ الْأَقْرَحُ، الْأَرْثَمُ، الْأَدْهَمُ، الْمُحَجَّلُ، طَلْقُ الْيَمِينِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَدْهَمَ، فَكُمَيْتٌ عَلَى هَذِهِ الشِّيَةِ
✧ “The best of horses is the one with a blaze on its forehead, a white upper lip, black in color, with white on its legs, and a white right foreleg. If it is not black, then a dark bay with these markings.”

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ came to us while we were building the mosque, and he said: “Make it spacious, and you will fill it.”

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ used to lead the people in prayer while carrying Umāmah bt. Abī al-ʿĀṣ, carrying her on his neck. When he bowed he put her down, and when he rose he lifted her up.
