   كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَوْقَ بَيْتِهِ جَالِسًا، فَقَالَ: يَا سَلْمَى، ائْتِينِي بِغَسْلٍ، فَجِئْتُ إِلَيْهِ بِإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءُ سِدْرٍ، فَصَفَّيْتُهُ لَهُ ثُمَّ جَثَا عَلَى مِرْفَقَةٍ حَشْوُهَا لِيفٌ، وَأَنَا أَصُبُّ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ فَغَسَلَهُ، وَإِنِّي لَأَنْظُرُ إِلَى كُلِّ قَطْرَةٍ تَقْطُرُ مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فِي الْإِنَاءِ، كَأَنَّهُ الدُّرُّ يَلْمَعُ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ فَغَسَلَهُ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ غَسْلِهِ قَالَ: " يَا سَلْمَى، اهْرِيقِي مَا فِي الْإِنَاءِ فِي مَوْضِعٍ لَا يَتَخَطَّاهُ أَحَدٌ "، فَأَخَذْتُ الْإِنَاءَ فَشَرِبْتُ بَعْضَهُ، ثُمَّ أَهْرَقْتُ الْبَاقِيَ، فَقَالَ لِي: " مَاذَا صَنَعْتِ بِمَا فِي الْإِنَاءِ ؟ " قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ حَسَدْتُ الْأَرْضَ عَلَيْهِ، فَشَرِبْتُ بَعْضَهُ، ثُمَّ أَهْرَقْتُ الْبَاقِيَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ، فَقَالَ: " اذْهَبِي، فَقَدْ حَرَّمَكِ اللهُ بِذَلِكَ عَلَى النَّارِ

   ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting on top of his house and said, “O Salma, bring me water for washing.” I came to him with a vessel containing water mixed with lote-tree leaves, and I strained it for him. Then he knelt on a cushion stuffed with palm fiber while I poured water over his head, and he washed it. I saw every drop falling from his head into the vessel, as if it were gleaming pearls. Then I brought him water and he washed with it. When he finished his washing, he said, “O Salma, pour out what is in the vessel in a place where no one will step over it.” I took the vessel and drank some of it, then poured out the rest. He said to me, “What did you do with what was in the vessel?” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I envied the earth for it, so I drank some of it and poured the rest on the ground.” He said, “Go, for Allah has thereby forbidden you to the Fire.”

   إِذَا طَنَّتْ أُذُنُ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَذْكُرْنِي، وَلْيُصَلِّ عَلَيَّ، وَلْيَقُلْ: ذَكَرَ اللهُ بِخَيْرٍ مَنْ ذَكَرَنِي

   ✧ When one of you has a ringing in his ear, let him remember me and invoke blessings upon me, and let him say: “May Allah remember with good the one who remembered me.”

   ✧ Every nation has Magians, and every nation has Christians, and every nation has Jews. Indeed, the Magians of my nation are the Qadariyyah, their Christians are the Khashabiyyah, and their Jews are the Murji’ah.

   ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the people of Madinah: “O Allah, bless them in their sa‘ and their mudd.”

   جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ حِينَ جَهَّزَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ جَيْشَ الْعُسْرَةِ بِأَلْفِ دِينَارٍ فِي كُمِّهِ، فَصَبَّهَا فِي حِجْرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُدْخِلُ يَدَهُ فِيهَا فَيُقَلِّبُهَا، وَيَقُولُ: مَا ضَرَّ ابْنَ عَفَّانَ مَا عَمِلَ بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ قَالَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ

   ✧ Uthman came when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was equipping the army of hardship with a thousand dinars in his sleeve, and he poured them into the lap of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ put his hand into them and turn them over, saying, “What harm can come to Ibn Affan after what he has done today?” He said it twice.

   مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يُسَبِّحَ لَهُ بَنُو آدَمَ قِيَامًا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ

   ✧ Whoever would like the children of Adam to glorify him while standing, the Fire is due for him.

   ✧ Every sin, it may be that God will forgive it, except one who dies a polytheist, or a believer who kills a believer deliberately.

    ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا تُقْبَلُ لَهُمْ صَلَاةٌ، وَلَا يَصْعَدُ لَهُمْ إِلَى اللهِ حَسَنَةٌ: السَّكْرَانُ حَتَّى يَصْحُوَ، وَالْمَرْأَةُ السَّاخِطُ عَلَيْهَا زَوْجُهَا، وَالْعَبْدُ الْآبِقُ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ فَيَضَعَ يَدَهُ فِي يَدِ مَوَالِيهِ

    ✧ Three people: their prayer is not accepted, and no good deed of theirs ascends to God: the drunkard until he sobers up, the wife with whom her husband is angry, and the runaway slave until he returns and places his hand in the hand of his masters.

    عُرِضْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ وَأَنَا ابْنُ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً، فَرَدَّنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ عُرِضْتُ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَأَنَا ابْنُ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ فَرَدَّنِي، ثُمَّ عُرِضْتُ يَوْمَ الْأَحْزَابِ وَأَنَا ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ فَأُجِزْتُ

    ✧ I was presented to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Badr when I was thirteen years old, and the Messenger of God ﷺ rejected me. Then I was presented to him on the day of Uhud when I was fourteen, and he rejected me. Then I was presented on the day of the Confederates when I was fifteen, and I was allowed.

    ✧ When you come to prayer, let one of you walk calmly and with dignity; then pray whatever you have caught up with, and make up what was missed.

    مَنْ نَفَّسَ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ الْمُسْلِمِ فِي الدُّنْيَا نَفَّسَ اللهُ عَنْهُ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ الْآخِرَةِ، وَمَنْ سَتَرَ عَوْرَةَ مُسْلِمٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا سَتَرَ اللهُ عَوْرَتَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، وَمَنْ يَسَّرَ عَلَى مُعْسِرٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا يَسَّرَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، وَاللهُ فِي عَوْنِ الْعَبْدِ مَا كَانَ الْعَبْدُ فِي عَوْنِ أَخِيهِ

    ✧ Whoever relieves a hardship from among the hardships of a Muslim in this world, Allah will relieve a hardship from among the hardships of the Hereafter for him. Whoever conceals the faults of a Muslim in this world, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter. Whoever eases things for one in difficulty in this world, Allah will ease things for him in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah is in the aid of the servant as long as the servant is in the aid of his brother.

    لَوِ اجْتَمَعَ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ وَأَهْلُ الْأَرْضِ عَلَى قَتْلِ رَجُلٍ مُؤْمِنٍ لَكَبَّهُمُ اللهُ فِي النَّارِ

    ✧ If the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth were to gather together to kill a believing man, Allah would cast them all into the Fire.

    ✧ A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asking him what Allah has made lawful for a man from his wife while she is menstruating. He said: "What is above the navel."

    ✧ Al-Kawthar is a river in Paradise; its banks are of gold, and it flows over pearls and rubies.

    ✧ When the Prophet ﷺ was taken on the Night Journey to the heavens, the adhan was revealed to him. He descended with it, and Jibrīl taught it to him.

    إِنَّ عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِ اللهِ قَالَ: أَيْ رَبِّ، لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِجَلَالِ وَجْهِكَ وَلِعَظِيمِ سُلْطَانِكَ، فَأَعْضَلَتْ بِالْمَلَكَيْنِ، فَصَعِدَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا، فَقَالَا: أَيْ رَبِّ، عَبْدُكَ قَدْ قَالَ مَقَالَةً مَا نَدْرِي كَيْفَ نَكْتُبُهَا

    ✧ A servant from among the servants of Allah said: 'O Lord, to You belongs praise as befits the majesty of Your face and the greatness of Your authority.' The two recording angels were confounded, so they ascended to the lowest heaven and said: 'O Lord, Your servant has said a statement, and we do not know how to record it.'

    مَرَرْتُ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ بِالْحِجْرِ، فَقَالَ: " يَا أُمَّ الْفَضْلِ "، قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: " إِنَّكِ حَامِلٌ بِغُلَامٍ "، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَكَيْفَ وَقَدْ تَحَالَفَتْ قُرَيْشٌ أَنْ لَا يَأْتُوا النِّسَاءَ ؟ قَالَ: " هُوَ مَا أَقُولُ لَكِ، فَإِذَا وَضَعْتِيهِ فَأْتِنِي بِهِ "، قَالَتْ: فَلَمَّا وَضَعْتُهُ أَتَيْتُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَأَذَّنَ فِي أُذُنِهِ الْيُمْنَى، وَأَقَامَ فِي أُذُنِهِ الْيُسْرَى، وَأَلْبَأَهُ مِنْ رِيقِهِ، وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " اذْهَبِي بِأَبِي الْخُلَفَاءِ "، قَالَتْ: فَأَتَيْتُ الْعَبَّاسَ فَأَعْلَمْتُهُ، وَكَانَ رَجُلًا لَبَّاسًا جَمِيلًا مُوتَئِدَ الْقَامَةِ، فَتَلَبَّسَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَامَ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَبَّلَ مَا بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَقْعَدَهُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: هَذَا عَمِّي، فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُبَاهِ بِعَمِّهِ، فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ: بَعْضَ الْقَوْلِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: " وَلِمَ لَا أَقُولُ هَذَا يَا عَمِّ، وَأَنْتَ عَمِّي وَصِنْوُ أَبِي وَبَقِيَّةُ آبَائِي، وَوَارِثِي، وَخَيْرُ مَنْ أَخْلُفُ مِنْ بَعْدِي مِنْ أَهْلِي ؟ " قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَتْ أُمُّ الْفَضْلِ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ قَالَ: " هِيَ لَكَ يَا عَبَّاسُ بَعْدَ ثِنْتَيْنِ وَثَلَاثِينَ وَمِائَةٍ، ثُمَّ مِنْكُمُ السَّفَّاحُ، وَالْمَنْصُورُ، وَالْمَهْدِيُّ، ثُمَّ هِيَ فِي أَوْلَادِهِمْ حَتَّى يَكُونَ آخِرُهُمُ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي بِالْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ

    ✧ I passed by the Prophet ﷺ while he was sitting in al-Ḥijr. He said: "O Umm al-Faḍl." I said: "At your service, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "You are pregnant with a boy." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, how can that be when Quraysh have sworn not to approach women?" He said: "It is as I tell you. So when you give birth, bring him to me." She said: "When I gave birth, I brought him to the Prophet ﷺ. He called the adhān in his right ear and the iqāmah in his left ear, and he placed some of his saliva in his mouth, and named him ʿAbd Allāh. Then he said: 'Take away the father of the caliphs.'" She said: "I went to al-ʿAbbās and informed him. He was a handsome man who dressed well, of medium stature. He dressed up and then came to the Prophet ﷺ. When the Prophet ﷺ saw him, he stood up to him, kissed him between his eyes, then seated him at his right. Then he said: 'This is my uncle. Whoever wishes, let him boast about his uncle.' Al-ʿAbbās said: 'Some of the talk, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Why should I not say this, O uncle? You are my uncle, the equal of my father, the remnant of my forefathers, and my inheritor, and the best of my family whom I leave behind after me.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, Umm al-Faḍl said such and such.' He said: 'It is yours, O ʿAbbās, after one hundred and thirty-two [years]. Then from you will be the Saffāḥ, the Manṣūr, and the Mahdī. Then it will be in their descendants until the last of them is the one who will pray with the Messiah, ʿĪsā b. Maryam.'

    يَدُ الْمُعْطِي الْعُلْيَا، وَخَيْرُ الصَّدَقَةِ مَا أَبْقَتْ غِنًى، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ، تَقُولُ امْرَأَتُكَ: أَنْفِقْ عَلَيَّ أَوْ طَلِّقْنِي، وَيَقُولُ وَلَدُكَ: يَا أَبَتِ إِلَى مَنْ تَكِلُنَا ؟ وَيَقُولُ خَادِمُكَ: أَطْعِمْنِي وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِي

    ✧ The hand of the giver is the upper hand, and the best charity is that which leaves [one] free of need, and begin with those you support. Your wife says, 'Spend on me or divorce me,' and your child says, 'O father, to whom are you entrusting us?' and your servant says, 'Feed me and employ me.'

    رَأَيْتُ عَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ ذَكَرَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ، فَقُلْتُ: لَئِنِ اسْتَمْكَنْتُ مِنْ هَذَا، فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ صِفِّينَ وَعَلَيْهِ السِّلَاحُ، فَجَعَلَ يَحْمِلُ حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ فِي الْقَوْمِ، ثُمَّ يَخْرُجَ، فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا رُكْبَتُهُ قَدْ حُسِرَ عَنْهَا الدِّرْعُ وَالسَّاقُ، فَسَدَّدْتُ نَحْوَهُ الرُّمْحَ، فَطَعَنْتُ رُكْبَتَهُ، ثُمَّ قَتَلْتُهُ، فَقَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: قَاتِلُهُ وَسَالِبُهُ فِي النَّارِ

    ✧ I saw 'Ammar b. Yasir mention 'Uthman b. 'Affan, so I said [to myself], 'If only I could get the better of this one.' On the Day of Siffin, he was wearing armor and began charging until he entered the ranks, then came out. I looked and saw that the armor had slipped from his knee and leg. I aimed my spear at him and thrust it into his knee, then killed him. 'Amr b. al-'As said, 'I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: His killer and his despoiler will be in the Fire.'

    الْكِبْرِيَاءُ رِدَائِي، فَمَنْ نَازَعَنِي ثَوْبِي جَعَلْتُهُ فِي النَّارِ

    ✧ Pride is My cloak, and whoever contends with Me for My garment, I will cast him into the Fire.
